This episode was... strange. I'm surprised that a whole 20 or so minutes were spent discussing why someone got angry over some simple mistake where nothing really happened when the person got angry.

LOL @ people that still expecting mystery from Hyouka.

Hyouka is a story about adolescence, and mostly slice of life. Get your expectation right before watching Hyouka, since you can only expect average to great "mystery" from main story arcs. Mystery is a plot device for Hyouka, not the main theme.

So there are some RIGHT expectations :D since when?
I was expecting mystery show and it fails at this.
In returns it gives a decent SoL story about one guy who is lazy but hides it under some philosophy - at least he starts to be more active, that's nice.

Not that i was expecting too much from it (since it's KyoAni)

That's the same point as the point that I want to convey. You are expecting mystery, and gets more slice of life rather than the actual mystery. Since many people tend to look down at slice of life, disappointment is natural for Hyouka.

It's the same thing like...expecting Fate/Zero to be a shounen show with a ton of cool fights, gets a lot of talk instead, and getting disappointed. Different expectation can kill enjoyment.

But well, sometimes it could also be a good thing. Like expecting Madoka to be a pretty typical magical girls story, and get the usual Gen Urobuchi's story instead... Most people like it.

wth?! nothing is happening.

Yeah, that's kinda my problem with this.

The whole plotty-mystery thing they had going ended at Episode 5. Is the rest of this anime just going to be them doing stupid shit like that?
I admit it had some funny parts but, I like my anime to have some storyline at least. If all it's going to be is, "Oh well, I got mad, I wonder why" for the rest of it... I'm probably gonna drop this.

This was probably the most pointless episode I've ever seen in an anime. It's a filler so trivial and forgettable that I can't imagine why kyoani adapted it. I mean, how could you forget something unusual that happened to you a few hours ago? And seriously, that "mystery" didn't require any kind of answer because it's a simple case of a person blaming others for his own mistakes and not realizing it, of course anyone would get angry.

And in the next episode hot springs. Cool, because I was pretty bored of anime that try to be original, it's better rehash the same hackneyed cliches over and over again.

that would be a 100x more interesting that wanted to know why a teacher made a mistake and a dumb girl who doesnt know why she got mad.

The solution to the problem was a long shot based on the information given. Why would a math teacher write A as a and D as d in this context?
Weakest episode so far. I like how they only have small everyday mysteries, but it definately need plot development too.

I'm a little disappointed by this episode, it was a very weak follow-up from last week. That they managed to scrape together an episode about a teacher who misread his own handwriting is just silly. I hope they go back to solving more intriguing mysteries or I'll not be as excited for Hyouka anymore. Before this episode I thought it had a soothing, feelgood-atmosphere, but this one just lowered my hopes for the series. :/

Honestly I was kinda disappointed in this episode....Why would Chitanda be soo interested in such a pointless thing as to why her teacher mixed up lessons? Felt like she made a big thing out of nothing x.x

Because math problems, you don't type unknowns in uppercases, so as a math teacher that becomes a habit.

This.

Check any mathematics textbook. Variables, which are by far the most common reason to use letters in math, are always lower case, and vertices of polygons/angles are always uppercase. Still, when you think of letter usage in math, you would definitely think variables first.

As is my habit, though I didn't think to attribute it to that until just now - I have degrees in physics and math, and yes I rarely print in upper case. And I've had that exact same thing happen to me - if I'm not careful I mix up my a's and d's.

I love this show. I found myself enthralled even though the episode had practically no direction. It was literally just a problem out of nowhere, but it was still written and animated in a way that made me want to know more.

I didn't realize until today that Hyouka is essentially an anime slice-of-life version of Sherlock Holmes. I'm a sucker for mystery.

That awkward when you´re catolic and Chitanda knows seven deadly sins and you don´t lol.

Anyway, awesome episode, haven´t laught this much for a wilhe. I have though that the teacher have mistaken the class before Oreki, so it made me feel smart :3 But Chitanta doesn´t need to uderstant ever thing, it´s normal to be angry :~~

I liked this episode a lot more than the last one and I think this has made me figure out something. I don't watch this show for the mysteries because lets face it they are pretty damn boring mysteries (and are pretty damn easy to solve*) . So when the show goes off on the mysteries and just basically does a huge info dump I find myself losing interest. However, when the show is how this episode mostly was I enjoy the series. The fun for me comes from the character interactions and the characters just basically having fun with each other and talking about regular things ( I particularly enjoyed how they were ragging on each other), instead of dry boring mysteries. I guess I just like when they display their traits (and lets face Chitanda was too cute for anyone not to at least have a little enjoyment watching this ep).

*Man this weeks mystery was really easy though, the fact that he checked the sign should've been a dead give away that he mixed up the classes. I thought Houtaru was better than that.

Wow, that felt like much longer than 20 minutes to me. Great episode, even if not a lot happened. I guess the first part was there for some character development. The mystery was ok, but not the greatest. I still really like this series for some reason. It's really pretty, if nothing else. Two weird parts with the girl. Angel image, and then all the mini angels. I wonder if that was another one of her visual things that happen like in the first 2 episodes. I really hope there is some sort of supernatural incorporation with her at some point.

Good ep. I still can't understand how she could forget the reason for her outburst but that's Chitanda for you.

Plenty of eye contact from her, angel scene was awesome and the problem solution wasn't bad either. Glad to see the OP/ED back.

Liking the development between Houtaro and Chitanda. The characters are pretty good in this show, I enjoy their interactions.

Mystery itself was dumb as shit though. Teachers forget where their classes are all the time, does it really matter this much? Though I grew to appreciate the mystery more after Houtaro noted that Chitanda was curious because she wanted to dismiss her anger as being in the wrong.

Chitanda was so cute this episode, and I just love the way she gets all close up to Houtarou. Ah being dragged into yet another mystery, this one was his fault for asking one too many questions. And how does she forget why she got angry lol.

I don't think it's that she forgot why she was angry, like Houtaro figured out, she wanted to come to the conclusion that the reason why she got angry was wrong. He said, "I guess Chitanda is that kind of person."

Anywho, I love this show <3

Good ep.

<3'd the part when Houtarou fantasized about Chitanda as an angel. I was like "Yay, we can finally get some romance between them!", but then Chitanda had to say it was a joke :(

Maybe it wasn't and she just felt embarrassed to admit it infront of him :P

Anywho, next ep looks like a hot spring ep? Can't wait!

Why would they get angry or care so much about the teacher making a minor mistake? Let alone discuss it that long?
