I'm loving this more with each episode, I think this anime might turn out to be a great one... I just hope the drama doesn't go overboard.

I really enjoyed this episode. Adding Kana into the mix sheds a whole new light on Karuta. Not once did I ever consider the actual poetry involved, all I ever thought about was the game play. It'll be nice to see how this may effect their playing styles.

Also, because of his background, I wonder if Arata plays the game with the actual poems in mind...Or perhaps he was just raised as a Karuta robot. (Just kidding. ;))

So warm. I loved it when the kimono 'came to life', really cool. 'But you're already befriended with all 100 cards,' and the hug, awww.

I absolutely love this ep! In the 5th ep i thought "that karuta seems to be a really dull kind of sport" but Kana changed my mind)) wow it's an unusual turn for a common sport show. Wow wow

Good episode. For someone like me who don't know much of Japanese literature, the back stories of those few poems were very helpful and not boring dazzled with colors and animations.

Lol at her reading a Higashiyama culture book. I still have yet to read that. She's quite the traditional Japanese culture (mostly Higashiyama but since she seems to be interested in Heian and early Kamakura as well) enthusiast....

This episode was a pure bliss for someone obsessed by East Asian culture lol.

Also, major character development: now that Chihaya is interested by the true meanings of the poems, she can learn to even enjoy the game further. Plus, she can promote their ceremonial dress as well lol.

Seriously, I had my doubts when I was considering watching Chihayafuru (and even after watching the first episode).

Now, I can confidently say I'm glad I went with it. I'm in love <3 It has its flaws for sure, but it is gorgeous to look at and listen to, humour is (mostly) spot-on, and the characters each have their own charm. So far, there isn't a character I hate. Kana, too, is a welcome addition to the cast, as she presents such a different perspective (and lots of info/insight for the viewer as well as Chihaya). It just keeps getting better and better.

Me for most of the episode: @_@ [Aika (the blue haired one, obviously)]

Still though, beautiful episode. I didn't read the whole discussion, but I'm surprised no one in the first page of discussion mentioned that Arata's brief appearance came with Chihaya mentioning "deep, red love".

So while there wasn't much Arata this episode, the context of the appearance left me quite satisfied.

My god, this series has one of the best eye-artwork, in my opinion. Those eyes say so much, being 2-D only. And Chihaya is sure as hell beautiful. Anyways, the episode was good. Finally, I realized that Arata didn't turn out to be a total dick and finally said goodbye to them in a good way—which didn't seemed like it'd happen by watching the last episode. I, also, think it was his fault that his granddad died. I mean, he was old. Arata couldn't have done anything for him besides listening to his final words like "Be the best Karuta player", if he had been there beside him during the stroke. Still, I can sorta relate to how he's been feeling. Overall, good episode. I'm looking forward to this series.

I love the attachment of history to the Hundred Poets! Not so much into names but the setting of each poem is intriguing. And I love how deep she takes the meaning. :)

Good promotion of the cultural aspect of Japan too. :) No wonder this has a good enough budget! ;D

I hope we get to hear more stories!! Else, google it is!

Ooh, Kana's pretty interesting. I like her too, it was awesome to hear her explaining all the poems especially when Chihaya didn't even bother knowing the meanings :P
ALSO DUN DUN DUN THE POEM'S ABOUT LOVE AHAHA. Looks like Arata will start playing again by the looks of it :O
Also Chihaya in kimonos was nice :P Totally expected that to happen XD Is that the one she's wearing in the OP? Love her hair! XD Randomly switches from ribbon to tie huh? Wow I notice weird stuff ... also the skirts in this anime aren't super short like others, hehe :3

Kana sure is knowledgeable in this poems :D

i think she is a valuable team member, since it can help the team members distinguished the meaning of the cards so you can get them much faster instead of waiting for the sounds to come up.

i love Chihaya's poses in the magazine :)

my favorite scene of her :)

i guess Arata is preparing as well huh?

can't wait for more members in the club!!!!

And the kimonos were so gorgeous, Chihaya looked beautiful in them! Looking forward to how the karuta club is going to grow.. And yes, arata is starting to play karuta again!

Loved this episode. Still amazed at how interesting this show is, since the game certainly isn't.
Your mean should be an even bell curve only if you watch every show that comes out. Having a high-slung mean doesn't mean you're rating improperly. It can also mean you're selecting shows well to watch mostly things you enjoy.

Nothing really special has happened so far....besides being centered around karuta, I just see nothing about this show that's different from any other school club anime...

Pleasant new character, offbeat, I imagined came at the end, instead here it is already here.
Plot that gives a new evolution in the game.
Narrative is always nice and in the context in which colors, the BGM are always so inspired! It is a pleasure to hear them! ^ _ ^
Chihaya always the MC of the episode, but Oe is so cute! : D

1. Kana talking about those poems in the 2nd half put me to sleep

2. Seeing chihaya get kana to join the club was great

3. Thinking about dropping this series. Not sure if I can handle how boring karuta is.

This.
That was to be expected that Arata will go back to karuta, but the last scene with Chihaya words made me somehow sad since Taichi is trying so hard.

Kana-chan is really cute, I like how she is so passionate about history and traditions!
