First episode was great, second was noticably worse. Watching 3rd one was excruciatingly painful. I hoped for some nice brainless entertainment, but not braindead.

Dropped

This episode was far more creative than the last two, and I liked that. Garterbelt got a bit of character development in too.

Stocking likes BDSM, prefers experienced men and all her stored fat goes to her breasts? My life this season is complete.

GAAAIIINNNNAAXXXXXXX, good job. Loved the exceedingly poor censorship job in the second half. It was simply hilarious, as was the condom at the very end.

Surprised the haters are still watching. What, did you think your opinions were going to change suddenly? Were you hoping, even just a sliver?

I don't consider myself a hater, I think this show legitimately has problems that can't be excused. This show doesn't have a clear direction of any sort. I don't mean this in the sense that it's just lacking a plot. It's lacking a clear purpose of entertainment.

At the best, it's very inconsistent in what it's trying to do. The only thing that's consistent is crude humor, and that by itself is a poor justification for entertainment. Actually the other thing that is consistent is the production values (animation, sounds, voice acting). That at least is decent.

Those, sir, are the symptoms of being a hater.

Have a nice day. You surely are a genius and your opinion must obviously be fact.

Oh, by the way, you totally missed the Genshiken OVA. But you're a genius, I'm sure you figured that out.

Nah, I'd rate this show more like a 5-6 at the moment. They have their good moments, but it's really not OMGWTF amazing, since they're lacking a clear consistent direction and failing to be original. If I actually hated it, say something like The Sacred Blacksmith, I'd be rating it more like a 3, and then making fun of it for how obviously terrible it is. I'm not making fun of this show. I'm being serious when I say it isn't what it's cut out to be. Nowhere do I say or imply that I hate this show.

This show had some promise, but I suggest you don't blind yourself believing that crude humor and western style animation alone makes this show justifiably unique.

And I rated this anime a 7. I don't think a 7 counts as OMGWTF amazing.

And I don't remember saying P&S was unique, nor did I try to justify it. I believe I stated in the episode 2 discussion that it was different. That's a completely different word, bro.

A problem with a lot of shows like this is that they're afraid to go all-out. This show doesn't, and therefore it is awesome! The second half was pure hilarity, and the ending brilliant.

I think your being a little too serious. This isn't Shakespere or a great amass of storytelling. And the anime itself knows this, meaning they can do whatever they want and still make it a enjoyable experience...that's why tons of people like it.

As for the chars not having substance, I think Ep 4 had a lot of char development. Stocking having a sudden BDSM fetish and goes absolutely insane when she find something cute (to almost disturbing levels and she completely goes out of what people think her character should be) is char development and Panty actually has insecurities despite her rambunctious attitude toward life and her own morals.

Plus the damn anime is episodic they don't have to be "consistent" at all really.

Unlike Qwaser, I don't think it's supposed to be taken as seriously. But when you've got a girl who has constant sex who gets covered in poo, and a partner who loves goth/socks/sugar who loves erotic bondage I can't see an inch of the plot be taken in a serious tone.

Not to mention the drugged up Gir, and even with the stripper pole scene, and your upset over sperm soldiers? If your that distressed you should've dropped this weeks ago.

Stocking + Sailor Uniform + Bondage = Yumm... :>

I'm not sure how having varied humor is inherently bad. the only problem here is that you like some gags and dislike others, which is perfectly understandable.

it is fairly unique to be honest, the only thing very close to it is Dead Leaves and this is already considerably different in many ways.

What a great show. You don't watch this for the story or development. It's 20 minutes of pure chaos. It brings us back to a day where anime wasn't all about schoolgirls being moe (with magical powers)

I don't want to sound elitist, but I think a lot of people completely miss the point of this show and simply don't get it. Sounds pretentious, I know but it's true.

There are so many references and in jokes, you can watch an episode 10 times and still catch something new. How many people got the Hellsing reference for example? This stuff is on the same level as shows such as Pani Poni Dash!

Wow WTF happened in this episode! This one didn't entertain me so much this time.
Although I love stocking in this episode, now I love her! LOL. Now I know a whole lot of Garterbelt now and he's just..... i can't explain -___-

And that 2nd episode is WTF? I didn't see anything to be funny in the episode, it was sort of like a sex episode. Although it does teach the audience about sex (in a weird way), it didn't entertain me at all. It like I'm seeing a hentai.

Overall episode 3/5

To my understanding, most of the references are very brief and are of little consequence to most of what happens in this show. They might as well not exist for the general purpose of what this show is about.

Of course, I fail at finding the references, but at the same time I don't feel I should have to be looking that hard for them if I'm supposed to be entertained by this show.

Quite frankly, I think even crude humor has an art to it, and Gainax at the very least seems to be aware of that considering the fairly huge difference in quality between some of the half episodes. The times where this show pulls their characters through the plot motions, it's not funny or original in any sense of the word. It's just...random and crude and throws in forced comedy concepts to fill in for where the show is deliberately shallow. That concept isn't new, and alone it doesn't amount to much of anything.

What do you mean they're allowed to do whatever they want to? The show isn't winning me over with forced "plot" development, which is what they're spending half their time doing. This isn't a show that has consistently good comedy like Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei where almost all the jokes are well crafted and appropriate to the point.

That's not what I call character development. Episode 1 hardly gave any discernible substance to the characters in the first place, so how can you actually call it development? Stocking's instance at best was an okay jab at bondage jokes. And I don't remember Panty changing in any way, but I don't feel like going back over the episode to see what you mean. All forms of "character development" to me are more like "LOL fanboys, did u know this?"

Plus the damn anime is episodic they don't have to be "consistent" at all really.
Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is an episodic series, and they manage to be a consistent high quality comedy. They actually manage to develop their characters through the comedy much better than what this show has provided us so far.

I didn't know smut made humour "bad". The purpose of comedy is to make the individual laugh, so there is no "good" or "bad" humour.
