This looks solid imo, for a slice of life show.

Chika Suzugamori is a manga artist but her research takes her far beyond just her work. There's a sense of child-like curiousity about her character and personality. Her journey with the story itself also adds a lot of potential with what she discovers whether it's new food, settings, etc. The background also has that realistic look and this feels like an anime version of the travel channel. Good start.

Mangaka Kenta Ishizaka's series is quite the Iyashikei travel journey of a thousand steps, alongside studio Makaria's 2nd anime of the season.

The aspiring rookie manga illustrator of Chika Suzugamori, whose drafts always gets rejected by her editor of Yoshimoto, nothing is working out for her despite winning the Newcomer award. But a variety show on TV giving her the idea of going on a journey, she uses the power of social media to depict where she goes next, while taking a nap. And since the reception is rather positive thanks to the retweet from her Master, Chika has no choice but to go ahead with wherever the audience poll takes her, which takes her to Aizuwakamatsu trying to find the Higashiyama hot spring. And though a nearby inn was one she found on the near side, it's better than nothing.

The lady whom Chika glanced for one of Riri Tenkubashi enjoying a drink and curry rice, it's nice, and the focus going back to Chika exploring places, there's the comfort. The dilemma of reaching Mount Haguro and encountering its hour-long 1,225 steps up which feels like an eternity, it can be a pain in the ass, but props to Chika for enduring all the way through with her mixed feelings climbing up towards Haguro Shrine.

harmoe's OP is a perfect fit for a CGDCT show like this.

Yep Chika, just stay on the course of going on endless journeys, as opposed to your manga illustration work.

Aside from the adaptation of Yuru Camp a.k.a Laid-Back Camp mangaka Afro's mono coming this weekend, this is yet another one to savour into with the comfy feels. Pseudo Yuru Camp in a manga setting, here we come!

Oh, and by the way, if you check out Chika Suzugamori's Twitter bio @suzugamori2, IT'S ABSOLUTELY REAL.

Yeah, this is about what I expected from a show like this, just a fun and simple little series about traveling. As said above, definitely gives off major Yuru Camp vibes, especially the solo travel parts. At least for now that is, since from that ending scene, it looks like we’re gonna start seeing new characters joining our girl on her journey across different parts of Japan. This episode ofc, focused mostly on her traveling north of Tokyo, around Aizuwakamatsu or Fukushima.

Story aside, visually… I kinda expected a bit more icl, especially considering this is coming from the director of Re:Zero Seasons 1 and 2, and even Shippuden OP16. But yeah, it looks fine. The backgrounds and overall art are nice for the most part, and honestly, for a show like this, that’s really what matters most.

Not that it matters much in the grand scheme, since we’ve got another travel anime this season too, with mono, which will probably look better visually considering how stacked the staff is. But yeah, for now, this one's totally fine. Just feels like it’ll be a chill little show, not amazing, but not insulting either, I think I'll enjoy it.

Chika going on a journey without even knowing her destination just because of a social media poll—now that’s an adventure.

In the end, her drafts get rejected again, so I guess another wild trip is already waiting!

This looks pretty entertaining, and it seems like they used real photos or something super close as backgrounds—definitely an interesting artistic choice.

A nice anime about travel. it's hard to go wrong with that and so far this is looking pretty good.
The hotel part actually showed a good tip if you travel of season and you don't really have to make a reservation, and if you didn't do that and enter a hotel after 3 in the afternoon you can most likely get a discount on a room if they are still available.
Empty rooms don't make money so they rather offer a discount and have a customer than offer it full price and have no customer.
Drawback of this is that you risk a full hotel and having no room available but that risk isn't that high off season.

I would like the see some more of the other characters but i guess we will get to see them as the anime progresses.

Climbing 1,225 steps is no joke, especially if you're an indoor type.

The trains in this episode were E5 Series Shinkansen and E721 series on the Banetsu West Line.
Locations:
Koriyama Station
Bandai-Atami Station
Aizuwakamatsu Station
Kogaikuni Shrine
Byakkotai Museum
Sazae-do
Kutsurogijuku Chiyotaki - the accommodation
Haguro Shrine's torii
Mt Haguro

I wish she would visit Urabandai Highland, Ouchijuku and Kitakata for the ramen if she had more time. All of the locations are located close to Aizuwakamatsu.

Cute girl going on a journey around Japan, teaching us about the culture, history and local delicacies? Welcome back Yuru camp πŸ˜‚ in all seriousness, Zatsu Tabi is easily going to be in my top 5 this season. This was such a good first episode, proud of Chika taking that first step and going outside of her comfort zone. The world is so beautiful when you just get out there.

As someone who’s addicted to traveling and will get on a Delta flight going ANYWHERE I really relate to Chika’s burgeoning passion and this show seems to really capture the positive effects of travel. That initial fear of going somewhere new and different by yourself, the joy once you get there realizing it’s not as bad as you thought, the concerns about budgeting for accommodation, food, return etc., and most importantly that feeling of wanting to immediately plan your next trip! It really just changes your way of thinking and exposes you to new ways of doing things, but also leaves you feeling so much more motivated and encouraged at the end.

I knew this show was the real deal when they showed Chika actually waking up early and eating the hotel breakfast and people in their robes coming down to get something to eat πŸ˜‚ all too real. Big highlight of the ep was Chika climbing those 1800 steps or whatever it was. Back in 2019 I did something very similar in Fujiyoshida to climb the top of a viewpoint for that iconic scene of Mt Fuji and the Pagoda that everyone knows. Never before have I felt my legs legitimately lock up like that where I couldn’t bend them.. but that feeling once you get to the top makes it all worth it!

Traveling is amazing, but the bad part is you’ll wanna do it all the time πŸ˜‚ this is gonna be great!

The anime should've followed its own character's advice: "This needs a story hook, to make it more memorable." There's no real reason to keep watching, but there's no reason to leave, either...

This is even more of a pure travelogue than Yuru Camp. There's barely any story or "character" to the character. Hope some side characters can liven things up later.

If one were to leave aside all those and focus on a singular purpose then anything is possible. Winning the newcomer award though was impressive. That poll sure blew up. Unplanned journeys tend to be the best. That room that she snagged sure was nice though. Glad that her journey went well in the end. Overall a pretty fun ep that did well to showcase the main character and her new hobby. Her seiyuu's a rookie just like her character but so far im liking her voice so hope this role would allow her to grow. Premise kinda reminds me of Laid back camp.

I love anime that feature older protagonists wanting to rediscover themselves and their purpose. That is Zatsu Tabi in a nutshell: The protagonist is burned out in her job, but then she decides she wants to go on an adventure to rediscover her purpose. The first adventure is to a shrine where she has to climb 1,225 steps to get to the top. The animation is beautiful, the protagonist is likable, and even the narrator is resonant and good. I plan on continuing to watch this one.

There's no better anime for a Monday — it gives off such a good vibe. Chika found the perfect hobby for herself, and it looks like she'll end up inspiring other girls to do the same.
Japan has so many beautiful places to see — Mount Haguro was an interesting choice for her, and the anime’s visuals are stunning. The background art is super detailed, and if it stays like this until the end of the season, that’s more than enough.
This one’s perfect for anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy an anime.

Ah yes, another anime to promote Japanese tourism, not that its a bad thing because these types of animes can be educational. Poor Chika gets her manga drafts rejected by Kadokawa, so she decides to take a journey from Tokyo to Aizuwakamatsu. I wonder if the other girls mentioned would go on a journey with Chika or maybe Chika should pitch her manga drafts to another publisher.

I understand that you're (half?) joking, but ditching the publisher that conffered you the newcomer award with a one million yen prize attached to it in order to pitch your comics to other companies is just nonsensical. The editor is rejecting all the drafts that Chika is presenting because she still needs to improve a lot before she can make her professional debut.

Anyway, this was a fantastic debut for the anime adaptation of Zatsu Tabi; an all around fine production and the voice cast even features Kobayashi Yuu, and that's a win in my book.

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

It's their culture. It's something like you need to do while you're travelling by train. Each station, city, and region also has its own specialties. It's like this menu of ekiben is sold at this station only. If you visit this station, you need to try it or go to that certain station just to try it.
