Twins Hinahima originally began as an "anime TikToker" project from KaKa Creation in November 2023. The anime project featured short AI-generated video of the twin sisters, Hinana and Himari.

According to Frontier Works, AI technology has been utilized to achieve visual expressions that were traditionally considered challenging due to production constraints in this production, such as scenes depicting naturally flowing hair. By integrating AI, the aim is to explore new animation techniques and create additional artistic value within the medium.

The production team emphasizes the concept of "Supportive AI," a method designed to assist creators rather than replace them. The development process adheres to Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry's AI Business Operator's Guidelines and incorporates legal guidance from attorneys to ensure compliance with current Japanese copyright regulations.

Looks awful. I really hope that it will be just a failed experiment and not an actual anime industry future.

like it or not this is the future of animation with ai art that will continue to improve more and more

capitalism is about maximizing profit and minimizing cost like minimizing cost of production and ai art will do that

its just funny that 5 years ago people are saying art will never be automated or its the last works to be automated but here we are with ai art

Really hope this is just an experiment and not the default direction of the industry.. like if AI used to compliment or enhance human effort then perhaps it's something, but if it is used as replacement for human effort, it would really rip the soul out of anime... how many talented humans will be put out of work? Stories that will never be able to be told because corporations favour profit over purpose?

I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.

@terrascura that is the thing the anime industry has few talented animators remaining this days with the ongoing animator shortage crisis due to young people avoids the bad working conditions of the anime industry with overworking and low pay

so to me ai art in the anime industry will just make talented animators remain and they will use ai to speed up their works like not needing inbetween animators and colorists anymore heck even background artist can be replace too

ai is good at copying like copying drawing and animation styles so talented animators can train this ai to copy their own drawing styles to make them more of a one man army in anime production

ye that is the sad reality that low skill and low quality animators will be replace more while talented animators will remain and might get a pay increase more since the anime industry still needs them

There's no profit to be made if there isn't consumer demand. If the public at large rejects AI anime then it doesn't matter how much cost savings there is.

@GrumbleDango we do not know that ai art is controversial right now so there is still demand for it like i see a lot of ai porn art being popular or have high demand

@deg It is controversial though, it's been proven people train AI to trace or copy artist styles. And the reason AI porn is so frequent isn't because it's "good", if you notice about these people making that crap, they often have their "art" linked to paid sites like fanbox or Patreon, they're just doing because they want money and there are fools out that really want to pay for ai slop porn...

The director and scriptwriter have no written down experience prior to this, so I have very very little faith this won't be a rocky experience in the first place, AI or not.

@tAlstroemeria they are using pen names its common practice i heard in the anime industry like when some popular animator wants to work on a hentai anime and obviously they are using pen names since ai art is very controversial right now

People boycotted CGI and digital paint in anime like 25 years ago, now look at it being in every production, this is the next step in profit maximization and you can't stop it.

I honestly don't mind AI if it makes the project look good, but this does not look good it looks jank as fuck.this is what happens when you rely on AI to do a job that it is not supposed to do.

A previous video outlined the various ways AI was used in the creation of the project, and the anime's website discusses the concept of "supportive AI." The website stated as AI technology is becoming more prevalent, there is a large gap between creators and AI. In response to this, the project is working to approach AI in a way where AI is used as a support tool for creators. The staff stated they believe AI for creators can be used to make work more efficient as labor shortages and excessive work hours in the anime industry continue, and also can achieve new forms of expression currently difficult for hand-drawn animation and CG.

More than 95% of the cuts in the anime will use AI, and a person will make the final edits by hand.

so like only 5% of the cuts will be drawn by real humans

rip low skill and low quality animators so only the few talented animators will remain as soon as 10 years from now i guess

I wish you wouldn’t allow AI on here. It’s not real art, and it shouldn’t be marketed as such. And definitely not promoted.
