This anime has a much higher score than the Urusei Yatsura reboot. What do you guys think this reboot does better?
In my opinion, the 2008 specials are the definitive versions of both.

I loved Yatsura and found it a lot more fun so am surprised by the disparity in score. But to each their own of course.

I prefer Ranma to Urusei Yatsura wholeheartedly.
Ranma characters are a lot less annoying right down to the mcs. Plus, the production value of this was a lot higher.

What I'm going to say may sound a little bizarre to you but I'm a huge fan to the point of loving all of Rumiko-sensei's works, but Maison Ikkoku will always be my number #1 compared to subsequent mangas like Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura.

Probably the main couple's dynamic. As iconic as Lum and Ataru were in otaku culture, their dynamic became stale and repetitive after a while.
Ranma and Akane have a lot more going on, and since they're both martial artists, there is a competitive element to their relationship too.

it's good but i find urusei yatsura better in every way, so this is surprising. i would understand if ryouga was cut out of the story though.

I like Urusei Yatsura more. It had better production value and it's Op's and Ed's were better in every single way. It also aired in double cour with an year gap between both seasons, so to be this consistent with this little gap is truly amazing.

Ranma had better characters with some actual growth and a continuous story while Urusei was very episodic and the characters did a lot of stupid things over and over just to be stupid. Production wise it felt about equal but Urusei did look better I think.

I love both of Rumiko sensei’s works but urusei yatsura has always been a favorite, and the reboot I enjoyed slightly more than ranma 1/2, plus the minami opening was fire lol

As a remake, I would say yes in term of the overall production quality and direction. I really not sure if most new watchers could say they like Ranma more until they met Happosai lol. Judging both works from just the remakes are just plain unfair and not right because it's incomplete and lacking alot of content. Watching both of their original shows would help to judge their actual quality which one is better.

Ranma is a better series than Urusei Yatsura, with better characters and a far superior main character. But the Urusei Yatsura remake is in another league above the Ranma remake.

I dropped urusei yatsura because all the characters were super annoying especially Lum and the comedy just wasn't hitting me because it got super repetitive, like they are expecting me to laugh at the mc getting electrocuted a billionth time whereas Ranma 1/2 was a lot more hilarious with the different comedy situations they were able to create and the romance chemistry & dynamic is so much better. It's also hard to make violence comedy funny for me but Ranma 1/2 did it whereas urusei yatsura just didn't 🙃🙃

Akane and Ranma had better chemistry for sure it was so good for me that even today romances pales in comparison. Ranma female voice actor for me is goddess she is such a great actor. But for me even tho Ataru was perverted he carried show like i always had laugh when he done smt silly. What killed Ranma show for me is Ryouga constant crying for akane like whole damn show was showing him how miserable he is and ofc the biggest turn of was hapusai (old guy) that completely killed show for me it was so annoying. Idk why but i would prefer to rewatch urusai over ranma but what i like in ranma is dynamic of akane and ranma, romance and some of characters but at least there is no ryouga or hapousai in urusai. Well thats only my opinion.

I'm surprised by those Ranma fans who say it has character development and is less repetitive.

Most of the characters and story arcs in Ranma are just better suited for a modern audience compared to Urusei Yatsura. I personally like Urusei Yatsura more than Ranma, but the core cast of Ranma is just overall better than the core cast in Urusei Yatsura.

No. Urusei Yatsura is more interesting because of the alien-human dynamic

I find this series a LOT more tolerable, so it's no contest.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Ranma is a better protagonist than Moroboshi but to be honest, I prefer Urusei Yatsura to Ranma.

The frantic, obnoxious slapstick humor of the UY remake is on a whole different level of intensity than that of the Ranma remake. This is likely what makes Ranma more palatable for people. The UY remake was consistently unfunny and painful to sit through.

I dropped the UY remake in season 2 despite watching the entirety of the 80s series. The ice skating arc was the only part of the Ranma remake that was hard to watch, but that arc also sucked in the original adaptation.

yes i do, both titles unfortunately share the same annoying characters imo (if you find them funny that fine), however i thought the dynamics of the leads (ranma and akane) was way more entertaining and sweet than the one in urusei yatsura.

Yes I do. Urusei Yatsura has too many annoying characters and dumb situations, even if it is a comedy. I also don't think it's funny. It's completely episodic too, so it almost feels like a waste of time to watch it since it'll get boring and repetitive after a while if there is no plot. Ranma 1/2 really only has one annoying character, and he hasn't appeared in the remake yet. And the early episodes have an overarching plot too, though it does become episodic later. Plus, Ranma 1/2 has Shampoo in it. Honestly, the only thing I like about UY is that I don't dislike Ataru, while I dislike Ranma.

What do I think this remake does better over the UY remake? Well Ranma 1/2 (2024) actually adapts the chapters in the order they were in the manga, and hasn't skipped any chapters yet. Urusei Yatsura (2022) adapts bits and pieces of the manga and skipped a lot of chapters. Feels like they (production committee) wanted to do a quick remake of UY, so they can get to a Ranma 1/2 remake as soon as possible, seeing that Ranma actually got a proper adaptation.

Personally UY was more fun and insane, ranma missed for me the fun in how insufferable the UY characters were
