Definitely got what I expected out of this. Uryuu meets the shrine sisters. Seeing it animated does bring out more personality with the character expressions such as Yuna.

They introduced the main girls Yae and Asahi as well. There's also some short flashback segments thrown in between. It's a neat and safe start for an introductory episode. 24 episodes is also plenty adapt this show.

We all know what Go-toubun is by now—it’s the model for these types of anime. But there’s a reason why Go-toubun is still popular, unlike its cheap copies. Maybe because it’s actually good? Now we’ve got another Go-toubun copy, except this time they’re shrine maidens. One episode in, and I can already see how it ends: the girl who hates him will fall for him and win, while the others just create drama. It’s so predictable. Sigh.

What’s the point of knowing the genre if you’re just going to follow the same tired story? It’s obvious how things will go. I don’t care who he ends up with, I just hope it’s not the middle child, but we all know how it’ll end. I read a few chapters of this after Go-toubun, and the only good thing I remember is the art. While the anime’s art isn’t as good as the manga’s, it still looks better than most in this genre. Surprising, especially since it’s from Drive, the same studio working on Uzumaki. Since it’s a 2-cour series, I’m expecting the production to fall apart halfway, though I hope I’m wrong.

It’s got the usual stuff—cute girls, nice art style, and hopefully some fanservice. Hopefully the only saving grace.

P.S. They really should’ve kept the same voice actors from the commercials

Remember Grand Blue's illustrator Kimitake Yoshioka's TenPuru a.k.a Temple, which got an anime last Summer? Mangaka Marcey Naito's series is just that, and more for being a rom-com.

But it's not just your typical rom-com...it's endorsed by Gotoubun no Hanayome a.k.a Quintessential Quintuples's mangaka Negi Haruba, with Marcey Naito having once worked before as his assistant...so let the shipping wars start here.

Uryu Kamihate coming to a shrine to receive teaching, but gets introduced to the 3 lead shrine maidens: eldest Yae, youngest Asahi, and the hard-eaded second sister Yuna...while they're changing, classic lucky pervert trope with the nosebleed. And already, Uryu's misunderstandings with Yae and Asahi causes Yuna to deflect his pervert energy back at him with salt, and even when he's caring towards her, the eldest and youngest sisters just had to witness the same lols. And their job as shrine maidens to pray to their god for blessings, and their late mother who left the red hair strings behind them as a memento, the young man trying to get into Kyoto U's medical school and hearing about the old legend of the Magical Star Shower, it's just hearsay and a myth.

Still, the Amagami Shrine, like Temple's setting, has its own quirks, like Yuna trying to appease foreign visitors with their Omamori tailsmans, and Uryu trying to get back Yuna's hair string from a bird stealing it in a swift manner, thinking that their prayers will not help one bit, which ires Yuna all the more leading to their argument, which stems from his past with his late mother passing away, despite praying to the gods daily and then hating it all of his life thereafter, which he still holds steadfast to his beliefs. Yuna finding him, along with Asahi and Yae thereafter to witness the Magical Star Shower and the miracle of living alongside 3 pretty girls, Uryu's quite a blessed guy, after all.

And the Amagami chief priest Chidori returning the night has a surprise for him...Uryu will have to marry one of the 3 Amagami sisters for the Amagami Shrine inheritance/succession.

Like Gotoubun no Hanayome, this harem will be an interesting one for 24 episodes, so start placing your bets on who will the MC end up with.

Another harem where a guy all of a sudden finds himself around girls.. sisters(three this time) and is supposed to marry one of them, because that’s what plot demands. Though I love the series this been compared to(actually there’s nothing to compare and nothing alike) but this one.. eh. By the way, I thought this would look really rough visually, but thankfully it’s not. Manga art is actually pretty good, so yeah there are standards to keep up with. Though yeah, I actually forgot the first chapter back then was THIS cliche lol.

Seriously lol, guy can’t even sit one minute before accidentally falling on our girls, and yeah, all the harem routine which follows that kinda thing. Important to note, he has come there to study, so only god can explain whatever and however he was ending up in those situations.. the god who this main guy doesn’t believe in. So yeah, living with shrine girls when you’re like that is as anime-ish as one could hope xD Stuff with Asahi is what I would say the most decent way to conclude this first episode and introduce everyone to the series.

There’s a LOT to adapt and a LOT of fantasy involved in the series, the mention of which seems to be again missing from the “genres”.. like the way it is with the manga. Fine start tho.

This for sure started with this first episode exactly as one would expect, has hit every checkbox, lmao. But at the same time, it seems that behind all this silliness and harem shenanigans ... there is some heavy baggage packed with it ... like some seriously interesting stuff.

I'm definitely interested for now.

with 24 episodes they should reach far enough to show her... i dont like this change at all

It's almost like the bird stealing the string and "returning" it at perfect time after Yuna and Uryu made up was its way of shipping them lol

The first episode is very good and this is a harem romcom again.

Kamihate Uryuu, a student who wants to enter his dream university, is now determined to live in the temple area. And it turns out there are also three shrine maidens there.

I like how Yae, Yuna and Asahi treat Uryuu in the first episode, I think this is going well as a harem romcom so far. This is a pretty convincing start.

Yuna looks off for the most part and the other two from some angles and scenes. Voice actress choices for the sisters aren't the best either. I quite like Sumire Uesaka and Wakayama Shion's voice in many roles. Had a blast with Sumire Uesaka voicing Alya last season and Wakayama Shion voicing Ellen in ZZZ or Takina from LycoReco. But think they are not the best choice for the sisters. The manga cm had the perfect seiyuu choices for them with Kayano Ai, Sora Amamiya and Ayane Sakura but it is what it is. Though I did enjoy watching the episode. Had good visuals and it was fun to watch the character interactions with a lot of amusing moments and the ending scene was beautiful. Liked the ED song as well.

At first look this may look like a new harem romcom with all the popular and classic tropes including the fmcs and while for the most part it maybe true there's much more to it, specially with the supernatural elements and this episode had hints about it too. I still don't know why MAL hasn't added the supernatural genre tag to either the manga or anime.

That said quite happy to see this animated. Been reading the manga since the one shot came out and has been one of my recent favourites. It had its ups and downs but still holds well enough for me.

Another clichéd harem to fill the void left by Megami no Café Terrace? Count me in.

A good nose bleed from walking in on girls in underwear never gets old. Gotta respect the classics.

But a temple sure is like a top 3 popular setting for harems, lol.

Can’t say I’m wowed yet- although I did get a chuckle over the trope inversion of him stopping himself from opening the door (only for the girls to open it anyway), I’m noticing a fair amount of trope reliance and the middle sister falls into that one character archetype i absolutely can’t stand.

I do have to agree with that one who commented above though- there doesn’t seem to be some “heavier” story elements at play so we’ll see if those make the story stand out

I checked this out primarily because I’m doing some “exploring” this season since there wasn’t any show in particular that stuck out to me- to be honest wouldn’t usually go for a show like this as my first choice. Giving it a chance since I don’t have a lot of shows I’m watching on Tuesday this season. Well, standard rule- give it 3 episodes and I’ll see if I stick with it

It was a very fun and touching episode at the same time. The personalities of the Amagami sisters are very distinct and unique and the MC is crazy about studies and does not believe in deities.

This will definitely be an enjoyable anime to watch, I hope. The animation is also good and the soundtrack matches the vibe of the anime. I read some chapters of the manga some time ago and was really looking forward to this adaptation, so far it hasn't disappointed at all.

You know, based on the people who were hyping this on aniTwitter I came into this expecting some goonbait generic harem romcom, but fairs this was actually really good.

Outside of the first 6-7 minutes where we had almost every romcom trope known to man with all 3 girls getting fanservice moments with the MC, this was actually really well written and the story is kinda compelling. Not to mention how beautiful studio Drive made this look. Hard to believe this the same studio who did Momochi-san lol.

You’ve got 4 people who are basically still grappling with the loss of their mother coming together and going on what I assume will be a journey of acceptance and growth. The mythological and supernatural aspects are pretty cool. It’s also a nice narrative aspect that Uryuu seems to have been really religious when he was younger and probably lost his faith after his mother’s passing, while the girls got their faith strengthened and take solace in their faith connecting them to their mother. Could actually have some cool philosophical discussions in this show… or it could just go downhill from here and be less serious, we’ll see lol.

Uryuu and Yae making up at the end was actually pretty mature. Glad they didn’t drag anything out. In fact, Uryuu in general has a much more mature vibe than you usually get from these sort of shows and when they said bro was 17 I damn near gasped lmao. He also actually looks like someone worthy of a harem for once. Smart, mature, nice looking fella.. I dig it.

Solid first episode that looked beautiful and had some really nice writing. Hopefully it only gets better from here on out.

@RomanRonin They rushed things a bit. So yes, the pace is a bit "accelerated". Maybe because chapter 1 is big compared to the rest of the manga

They really messed with my head saying they are a foster family and having 2 of the girls call themselves his little sister and older sister, then having it all be with expectation of him to marry [one of] them. 50/50 chance I drop if they refer to each other as siblings again. Otherwise not too bad as 0-3 year age-gap and he seems mature.

I like him, girls are right about him needing a little romance to get any girls, but otherwise like him. In this world however, gods/spirits do appear to exist. I am guessing 1st that the shrine maiden spirit we saw is his mother, 2nd that it's their mother.

4/5, yes it has tropes, but I really enjoy it. I'm a sucker for comedy, romance, and wholesome interactions. (please don't refer to each other as siblings any more when old mans intent is marriage)

A mighty load of familiar tropes and character archetypes, seasoned a bit with some traces of originality and a good dose of cuteness. Felt rushed introducing the personalities, hopefully that means quicker pace of character development. Mid so far, but romances tend to grow on me within a few episodes.

Personally- I don’t think there is a problem in and of itself when tropes are used; it’s ultimately how they are used is the important part.

The real question is- will they rely on the tropes, or use the tropes as a set up for the story they want to tell.

I have to agree this story is mid right now- but who knows, maybe soon they’ll introduce that one “thing” that will set this story apart; as I said earlier, I’m going to give this 3 episodes before I decide if I’m sticking with it

Yeah this series reminds me a bit of TenPuru although that one had an ecchi tag and this one doesn't but this one did have a brief ecchi scene when the girls opened the door with the MMC standing there (hopefully there will be more ecchi scenes in the future). Anyways, I thought that the first episode was decent and I'm assuming we'll find out later how the MMC ended up at that shrine with the 3 maiden sisters as I don't recall that being explained yet.

Please tell me if the rest of this series will be as tropey and predictable as this first episode. I'm already not a huge fan of this genre and premise, but I try to give them a chance because some have managed to surprise me...this one not so much.

If manga fans believe the rest of the series is unique enough, I'll give it a try but this first episode was so painfully mediocre. Sad. :(

To be honest - I'm already looking forward to the next six months.

Likeable characters, humor, wit, shrine maiden romance and a lot of heart!

I was surprised that this title was so close to the "Quintessential Quintuplets" until I found out that Marcey Naito had already assisted with the Quintuplets.

And even though the show already covers almost all of the harem tropes in the first episode and the classic "I slipped and accidentally landed on her breasts" gag has already been worked out three times, the show still has something unique about it.

We already knew from the manga that we would have an absolute peak scene in episode 1 - seeing the shooting stars animated again and accompanied by music was really well worked out.

Best Girl: Yae.
All the more pleasing that she is voiced by Uesaka Sumire of all people. No matter what happens, I always hear Lum in her.😅 For others, she is Alya. She has one of the most unique and distinctive voices, so it is always a joy to hear her in her different voices.

And that will be every Tuesday for the next six months!
Something really big is coming our way.

I actually really liked this episode. I thought the 4 main characters were unique in their own ways. Uryuu not truly believing in Gods and Miracles was a nice little touch to kind of counter what the Amagami sisters believe.

I thought it was going to avoid the Tropes we see in these anime when They just closed the door on Uryuu after he saw them in their underwear but then the tropes came in hot. Which I mean is fine, it's that type of show.

I'll be in for the long run.

The only downfall is I feel it is painfully Obvious who his wife will be in the end.

There would have to do some time skips to settle him with the kinky 14 year old; I think there you have to be 16 to get married with parental/guardian permission, and the relationship before that would be cringe.
The sweetiepie Onee-san will have to reveal some secrets and or peccadilloes to become a story contender.

The show was entertaining and the interactions between the characters is humorous (the redhead throwing salt after every misunderstanding was funny), but what stood out to me more is this line where the mail MC says something like, "your religious beliefs vs Science", a claim that is just historically false.

As one who has studied the History of Science, it is believers, both polytheists — Greeks & Romans — and monotheists — Christians — that the world has to thank for the establishment of Modern Science & the Scientific Method, which lead to the Renaissance & Enlightenment, as well as a majority of discoveries, achievements, and progress in Science, which began in the 1300s AD, about 700 years ago, and Christians still work as Scientists all across the world today.

Along with other religious peoples — Chines, Japanese, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, etc etc — also played a role in the progress of Science, and continue to conduct Science.

The Modern Secular Atheist Materialist Naturalist Evolutionary perceptive only started in the 1700s AD, about 300 years ago, and their contribution to Science has been significant, but not due to them having an atheist perspective, but because they were good scientists, following in the footsteps of the good scientists that came before them, who are also the people with religious beliefs.

The point being, in the world of Science, it is not Religion vs Atheists, Belief vs Evidence, or God/gods vs Science, humanity as a whole works together to gain further knowledge and understanding of the Universe, Earth, Life, and to utilize that information to our advantage in order to accomplish even greater feats that will benefit us all.

Anyone trying to speed "Belief vs Science" is not only historically wrong, but causing strife between peoples with false narratives, which is shameful.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Starts off trope heavy. Lets hope it offers more than that since I've honestly grown tired of the 'guy getting physically and verbally abused by cute girls', and 'guy gets put in awkward positions then gets called a pervert' tropes year after year and show after show. Each of the girls have established their archetypes in Episode 1, so ideally they're a bit more realized and multi dimensional than this in upcoming episodes. But he's already awkwardly fallen on each of them, so that's out of the way. At 24 episodes, this better be more than brain rot.

it is painfully Obvious who his wife will be in the end.

The damn tsundere, hopefully they will avoid that.
There would have to do some time skips to settle him with the kinky 14 year old; I think there you have to be 16 to get married with parental/guardian permission, and the relationship before that would be cringe.
The sweetiepie Onee-san will have to reveal some secrets and or peccadilloes to become a story contender.

Lol, this was exactly what I thought when I started the nanga. But you're, unfortunately, far off the mark, buddy. 153 chapters in and it's still unclear who among the 3 of them will win because the mangaka made it so so vague. I won't spoil what's to come but let's just say MORE is to come.
