Shapeshifters and imposters. I see this anime loves to deceive the party at every chance possible, especially in the labyrinth. It's more amusing they took on the look of the main cast. At least they managed to get out of that snowstorm.

Not going to lie, this episode had a lot of meme worth material.

Laios is also hilarious and badass this episode.

Can’t be perfect with timing, Laios could he? Lol, but hey we know the motives of that dark elf, and their loyalty for the king, and can safely assume the bunch will have it very tough going forward. Though that being that, we finally got the shapeshifter chapter lol. Was waiting for it, and can say they didn’t disappoint.

Lol’ed hard on Marcille’s doppelganger btw, that first one. Though I feel they would have dealt with it sooner if it wasn’t for Laios brute forcing with his methods lol. Also, how could they not catch Senshi’s double instantly lol, I mean it was dead obvious. LOOK AT THOSE EYES LMAOOOO. Full marks to Marcille though.

At the end of the day, say it was Laios and his quirky habits, which kind of saved them from the entire shapeshifter mess, although those methods of his shouldn’t be trusted for a second time. Surprises for Marcille aside, now that girl from Shuro’s party is here. By the way, don’t try to threaten these people lol, it won’t result in a good deed. Fun episode though.

Laios' fakes really stand out, showing how others see him.

To rescue Falin, who has transformed into a monster, Laios and his companions opt to confront the deranged mage ruling over the dungeon. As they journey deeper into the dungeon, tracking Falin's trail, they encounter a fierce snowstorm. Despite the limited visibility, they seek refuge indoors, only to discover that the number of Laios and his companions has inexplicably multiplied. To find the shapeshifters, they need to spot the fakes. Laios and others identify some easily, but one remains hidden. Laios suggests making a meal to uncover the last impostor.

I'm a bit confused too. Can fake Marcille actually use magic? That should be easy to debunk. And yeah, these shapeshifters are seriously creepy. They can absorb knowledge and memories so fast, it's like they become the person they're copying in minutes. Also, come on, Rude Marcille, Senshi's always been good-looking. Laios is impressive. He nailed all of them. Seems his monster knowledge applies to more than just monsters. Now I see why he's so into kobolds.

Looks like Asebi's going to cause some trouble for our gang too.

The subs we want start with "We had such a tough time finding those stairs up". "Finding a way back was rough" are dub subs.

10:58 Lmao I love how they just zoomed in the image so we can even see the pixels. They've done this early on in episode 2 or 3 too.

I'm really liking these interactions with the clones, they're hilairous.
16:18, 16:21, 16:23 The untranslated text is what Laios said about them in the previous scene.

18:18 - 18:23 "Anoutolid, Muimui, Fucchi, Nussa, Boff, Dustrag"

Trigger flexing their animation again, damn!

Laios and the gang's journey to finding Falin within the dungeon, this is not proving easy, with the 6th Floor underground waterway to find King Delgal, the last ruler which the mad mage is trying to resurrect as well...which Laios would've helped if he'd mentioned he found him at the Paintings earlier. And going through a rather tough blizzard, Laios reaches together with the gang, and a whole other group of Shapeshifters being perfect fake replicas, trying to mimic the real ones. Luckily, they're not so much as a threat, but telling the difference is tough, but funny lols, especially when it comes to Marcille. Personal items are the easiest to tell the real people from fakes, and to Laios, only making food will make sense.

It's true that making food Shokugeki no Soma style will help Laios tell the fakes apart, along with their inept personalities, which I have to admit that the dopeelgangers are the highlight of the episode as a guessing game of sorts. Through all of the analysis however, even Laios gets his thought process all mixed up, but at least he got his gut feelings right, even if they have to duke it out being the real thing and not an illusion, even more in the cold climate....by imitating a dog and barking the hell out of it. Talk about being the hunted, and this proves critical to unleash the true enemy: a beast of an illusion, dredged into dry leaves. Laios IS indeed pay attention to his teammates seeing through the Shapeshifters, and they earned a good food...without the tea, no thanks...to Asebi?

One of the best episodes for me, thus far. Asebi is proving to be a capable ninja of a threat.

Ah shapeshifters finally make their appearance and try to deceive the group, but Laios actually knows his complains pretty well calling out all the fakes at the end and giving reasons for them being fakes. The cliffhanger at the end of the episode has got me wondering what next weeks episode has in store for us 😅

This episode again proved that Laios biggest strength is definitely his knowledge about all kinds of monster. Even though he is not the strongest character but his knowledge and obsession with monster is the reason why he is one of the most useful character in the dungeon.

This episode was cool because we got lore about Delgal, the mad mage and the history of the dungeon. It was also really a test of how well everyone knows each other. Hot senshi sticking around the longest is actually hilarious. Shows how cool everyone thinks senshi normally is.

Laios barking like a dog to lure out the monster is me when I see a hot cosplayer ..

Bro did all that work just for Marcille to blow the monster away in an instant lmao

Let's talk about who's memories each illusion is from.
To distinguish them I'll be referring to the scenes of every character's illusions next to each other at around 8 minutes.
I'm numbering them from left to right (and clockwise in the case of Senshi).

Laios

  • I think Laios 3 is the easiest. At first I thought he was the tallest because Chilchuck looks up to him, literally. But it might be more likely that he's from Senshi's memories, because he is the only one that could produce such a masculine and good-looking Laios.
  • Laios 2 said "I must eat" and Marcille is the most likely to think of Laios as a monster eating zombie.
  • Laios 4 is obviously the real one.
  • Which leaves Laios 1 to be from Chilchuck's memories.

Final verdict: 1.Chilchuck 2.Marcille 3.Senshi 4.real

Marcille

  • Marcille 2 is so obviously an imposter that it's hard to say who's memories she is from. Since it's hard to imagine Chilchuck or Laios seeing Marcille like that, I'm inclined to choose Senshi. It kind of makes of sense for her to annoying at least; after all, Marcille is the who scolds Senshi all the time.
  • The other ones are difficult to distinguish from each other. The biggest difference between them is their hairstyle. After discarding the Marcille with the Book of Scribbles (why does that sound ominous?) the two left have straight hair and braids, which are Marcille 4 and 1 respectively. This leaves Marcille 3 to be the one with the Book of Scribbles. Laios studied magic with the real Marcille, so he would know at least the basics; which means that is from Chilchuck's memories.
  • We later figure out that the real Marcille is the one with the braids, Marcille 1.
  • Which leaves Marcille 4 to be from Laios' memories.

Final verdict: 1.real 2.Senshi 3.Chilchuck 4.Laios

Senshi

  • Senshi 4 was exposed as Laios' memory, there's not much that needs to be said.
  • Senshi 2 is the one that was accused of not caring enough about the ecosystem and also has a more grumpy(?) face. Marcille would of course not apriciate the fact he cares about the ecosystem and obviously thinks of Senshi as the source of her suffering.
  • The other two are indistinguishable to me; if you are better at "spot the difference" than me, let me know. One has a different pan and spatula, so he's from Chilchuck's memories.
  • And the other one is real.

Final verdict: 1.real/Chilchuck 2.Marcille 3.Chilchuck/real 4.Laios

Chilchuck

  • Chilchuck 2 was exposed as Laios' memory, there's not much that needs to be said.
  • The other ones are difficult to distinguish from each other. I'm not certain about the differences I'm going to list (I could be overthinking this), but this is what I can see being consistently different about them. Firstly, Chilchuck 1 and 4 look cuter (rounder faces and eyes), compared to 2 and 3. Chilchuck 4 seems to always have red cheeks. And finally, Chilchuck 1 consistently has his wisps drawn thicker than the others. After the Chilchuck with different tools is imprisoned, the two ones left are Chilchuck 1 and 3. So Chilchuck 4 is the one with different tools, which I think is from Marcille's memories.
  • Chilchuck 1 and 4 are interchangeable, but I went with 4 for Marcille, because Chilchuck 1 seems more childish; which might be a better fit for Senshi.
  • And Chilchuck 3 is real.

Final verdict: 1.Senshi 2.Laios 3.real 4.Marcille

The whole thing seems complicated at first but it should be easier to guess if you look at the lenses through which they are filtered.

Laios: lacks attention to detail and projects.

Both his Chilchuck and his Senshi went out before the cooking round so his Marcille is still in (plus this one had a magic book that even vaguely resembles a real one which would only make sense for his version of her as he has actually seen it) which is "Marcille A", the giveaway here is that she worries more about Falin than it would make any sense for the real one to do given the situation.

Chilchuck: views everyone as "too handsome" (for the lack of a better term)

Both his Laios and his Marcille went out before the cooking round so his Senshi is still in which is "Senshi B", the giveaway here is quite obvious so a big L for the group for not filtering him out beforehand.

Marcille: views everyone as way too stupid (has a generally horrible attention to detail)

All of her versions of the other characters went out before the cooking round which is good but is also a huge L for Marcille.

Senshi: views everyone as children (as mentioned in one of the previous episodes)

Both his Laios and his Marcille went out before the cooking round so his Chilchuck is still in which is "Chilchuck B", the giveaway here (aside from the things Laios mentioned) is that his versions look "too cute" in comparison to the real ones.

Laios at first seems trustworthy, but as you get to know him, you might think otherwise. He comes across as absent-minded, but in reality, he shows that he's very attentive to the smallest details he experiences. He observed the dragon's behavior initially but didn't know why until Falin mentioned that name. It was thanks to Marcille clarifying who it was. Now they know what that crazy Elf is looking for. They might be able to use that if they see him again to talk about it, but it's difficult.

And just when I thought he partially ignored his companions' traits, gestures, and personality, he does pay attention to them, like Chilk sitting on the box or Marcille removing the broth as a precaution.

This was a very fun one with the gang trying to pick out the fakes among the group due to the shapeshifting monsters, there were some obvious goofy looking ones and some that were actually difficult to pick out, thankfully Laios was more perceptive than the rest of the party thought and was able to find out who was who because of small errors by the fakes, very smart on his part. Really tho, handsome Senshi should never have been in that final battle but it was funny lol.

And although Laios was right on his picks, he still had to take drastic measures and take on the foe directly, wasn’t expecting realistic dog barking lol, it did the trick tho and Marcille was quick on the attack once Laios got in over his head, it’s a good thing too as I’m not sure if he was gonna win that lol. But we’re not out of the woods yet, because at the end it was revealed that one ninja girl left behind by Shuro’s party was still around, not sure what she’s up to but I’m interested in finding out.

What a weird situation to be in. The imposter trope has been done before but it is fun seeing clearly different appearances and some hard to tell apart at a glance. I imagine it would feel pretty bad to not be recognized as the real one when you know the fake clearly isnt you....
