This seems to be a spin-off of Doraemon, because they have Time Patrol too, but this one is much darker cuz it has more violence and blood. As someone who watched Doraemon in my childhood, I'm pretty excited.

But when I saw the trailer, the one in Netflix Japan has more views than the international (Netflix Anime) one. Is Doraemon—or Fujiko—not that popular in the west?

Doraemon is still one of the most popular anime series in Japan and In Asia too. In west its not really popular, I don't think many people even knew about Doraemon in west.
It also somewhat have to do with the fact that Maximum people in Asian countries grow up Watching Doraemon as A Child

It isn't a spin-off, time travel is a recurrent theme in Fujiko's works.

As someone who never watched Doraemon (and never will), I'm not too hyped since I'm not particularly impressed with the type of art style in this anime, I find this type of art style to be too kiddie for my taste, I want to see something more mature.

That being said, the trailer at least looked kind of dark so it got me a bit interested for a bit, the art style is for little kids but the anime appears to be a bit dark so I may give this anime a couple of episodes to see if it's worth my time.

Pretty much this. Doraemon is absolutely massive in Asia, but hardly anyone in the Americas remembers it.

If it makes you feel better.
The creator of Gantz (Hiroya Oku) seems to be hyped for it on twitter
https://twitter.com/hiroya_oku/status/1780084946671145178

Same with the Black Lagoon creator (Rei Hiroe)
https://twitter.com/hiroerei/status/1780139150735540730

And Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! creator (Sumito Ōwara) retweeted the Netflix Japanese trailer on twitter/X .

So I guess you can say Japanese fans definitely seem more hyped than the English fans. Fujiko F. Fujio is definitely an influential mangaka to the older generation in Japan.

I don't know anything about the original mangaka, but the Netflix trailer looked cool enough for me to immediately put this into my Plan to Watch list.

The style is very Japanese, it's natural that westerners don't really like it.
As an Asian, I am very excited for this, and almost every holiday Doraemon is always shown on my country's TV channel.

I'm a sucker for these types of plots lol so I hope it delivers.. plus the theme song sounds so familiar and good xD Also, I hope it doesn't end abruptly since the manga was discontinued?

I don't think Doraemon has much of a presence in the West, at least in US/Canada. I think it's a bit too old and has never been broadcast extensively. Anime fans over here of Asian descent seem to be more familiar with it, however.

Not to mention the fact that Netflix anime shows are still not really talked about that much, in my experience. Dungeon Meshi might've been the exception, thanks to its high meme potential. I didn't know anything about this until I happened across the trailer on YouTube and immediately thought, "Doraemon?"

It looks extremely well-produced and the premise seems heavier than it looks. I'm now looking forward to it.

at least in Spain, Doraemon is MASSIVE, it continues to be broadcast daily on TV and it was part of the childhood of almost everyone who was young on that time.

As a long time fan of the manga. A modern adaption was always what I wanted but I thought it was impossible since the manga is over 40 years old. Then it just happened like that, I was kinda shocked lol I'm so excited

Complete newcomer to this story, have not read the manga or seen the original special...but the premise sounds fantastic and the trailer was great - hoping that music is the OP/ ED.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

I just saw the trailer and learned of its existence right now. And apparently, it'll start airing on Netflix today too. I don't understand why it's not as hyped too. I'm guessing it's one of Netflix's usual victims.

Doraemon was a huge part of my childhood. Ain't no way I'm gonna miss this.

The ED is so good.
And Bones really did an amazing job adapting this.
They tone down the violence a bit, as well as incorporate modern stuff into it, but it still similar to the manga.
I hope more 3F’s works will get adapted like this.

Yeh the ED is absolutely amazing, I remember seeing the trailer hoping that music would be the OP or ED, and the ED version is even more amazing that the one in the trailer, so that was a happy time.

@Aryu1410 I haven't yet watched Doraemon, but I dig the art style and story of this. Art reminds me of cult classics like Kaiba.

@Old_School_Akira Hiroya Oku is a massive fan of spectacular hollywood-esque sci-fi. Him being excited is the biggest green flag.

I’m from Brazil and I really can’t remember Doraemon being broadcasted here, so I did a quick research and found out that it was first broadcasted here in October 1992 in a no-longer existing TV channel named TV Manchete that was the first one broadcasting animes here, I remember watching Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball back them but I can’t remember Doraemon. Actually it didn’t got any hype here so they stopped dubbing and broadcasting.

Later on, in 2019, the 2005 anime version was broadcasted in another TV channel named Rede Bandeirantes also for a short period of time. Maybe Brazilians don’t get it.

Myself, never watched, but I almost finished watching T.P Bon (1 to go) and enjoyed a lot. I really like the cartoonish drawing style and the non censored scenes are quite contrasting making me enjoy it even more. I’m a fan of Osamu Tezuka because this old school art style and I’ll give it a try to others Fujiko’s work for the same reason.
