Feels like this play is definitely more than what it seems.

I mean, the characters and their personalities protrayed in it...and it seems Tomozaki knows it too. At the same time, I do feel like this play teaches everyone a lesson about their current life situation and that's something to think about.

Since Kikuchi created the play, we'll probably see a lot of her in this arc. Hell yeah.

Preparations for the play were steadily progressing. Kikuchi, delighted with the cast being decided, found ideas flowing effortlessly. Meanwhile, Tomozaki and Minami went to discuss their comedy routine. Despite feeling awkward after their recent confession, they resolved to confront their feelings head-on. The next day, Tomozaki began reading the script revised by Kikuchi. The three main characters were depicted more realistically than before. However, the character of Alicia, defined solely by her "strength," overlapped with Hinami's image.

This play is… interesting to say the least

Mimimi was amazing in the first half. That jealousy.
13:50 無視 (mushi lit. not see) - ignoring 虫 (mushi) - bug.

It's kinda cliche, but I really like how the characters in the story represent the ones we're seeing.
How did they find Hinami's old classmates? Must've been pretty hard.
Oh, more info about Hinami, interesting. Tbh didn't expect that learning her "true" motives would take so long, considering she's supposed to be the "main girl".

By the way, there is a spin-off manga focused on Mimimi. I haven't read it yet, but I hear that it gives a lot of insight into her character. Edit: It's called Nanami Minami wa Kagayakitai (Minami Nanami Wishes to Shine)

Skipped boring story about dragon, which left me half episode. And im wondering what drives Aoi to be so good at everything, and maybe she has a sister that's looks up to her or she have sister that is smart and everythi, g and she competes with her idk. If someone can spoil in spoiler tag, I'll be grateful

@Sekiro94 Don't skip that stuff lol. It's one of the author's ways of showing how Kikuchi views the people around her. It's part of her character development.

Best girl Mimimi opens up with a power move by dragging Tomozaki away from Fuuka under the guise of practicing their manzai act. Even better, she doubles down on her confession. Tomozaki also earns some respect from me here by being honest about the fact that he has no idea what to do with Mimimi's feelings.

On Fuuka's side, having a cast for her play breathes some new life into her characters. We also see that Fuuka has some social awareness, being able to see right through Aoi's lies in her interview. Brings me back to the previous arc where she was able to judge Erika's intentions. I've definitely been underestimating Fuuka thanks to her lack of screen time in the first 1.5 seasons, but I'd love to see more of what she can do.

To cap it all off, Tomozaki realizes that Chris and Libra were actually stand-ins for Fuuka and himself. Also, Aoi apparently has a sister. Okay. The way we're building up to this culture festival is really piling on the anticipation. Hope it lives up to the hype!

Assigning the roles to the class was pretty fun. Mimimi seems a tad desperate to get Tomo's attention in the face of Fuka. The tale that Fuka created sure was a nice one. Fuka interviewing Aoi to get an idea on how to build her character was interesting too. Especially interviewing her old classmates. Looks like there's more to Aoi that she's hiding beneath the surface. Curious to see how their first rehearsal goes.

What a damn good episode.

Seeing Mimimi jealous gave me years of life 🚬.
Mimimi and Fumiya's scene in the afternoon was absolute art.

The rapprochement between Fumiya and Fuka was also excellent, although it was somewhat predictable that Fuka was inserting herself into his own work.

Wtf with Hinami? Could it be that we will finally discover her lore?

Uff this anime is like wine, it keeps getting better xd.

Another awesome episode! Mimimi pulling Tomozaki away under the guise of practicing the routine for the festival was a brilliant way of clearing up things with him after how awkward they’ve been since she confessed.

So much respect for how both of them handled things, clearly articulating their feelings and Tomozaki straight up saying he doesn’t know what he wants to do is commendable. It’s the first time he’s ever been in this position and it makes sense he’s a little shaky rn.

Mimimi doubling down on her feelings was so cute. It’s a nice change seeing her act like a normal girl in love compared to the usual happy go lucky persona she has. She’s so clear as the best girl for him.

I did really enjoy seeing how Kikuchi’s worldview was expressed via the play’s characters, most notably Chris and Libra as stand ins for she and Tomozaki. For someone who struggles to express herself directly, the play is a great outlet for her emotions.

And the big reveal that Aoi has a little sister.. interviewing her former classmates is a good way to find out about what made her the Aoi we see today. Feels a little shady though but if she won’t talk, there’s only one way.

Solid episode. They did a nice job with the scenes involving Mimimi, Tomozaki, and Kikuchi. I still feel like they cut out too much again although not as badly as the last episode. Particularly Mimimi interacting with Kikuchi and Tomozaki asking Aoi for emotional advice should of been left in. Neither of those scenes are very long but they help flesh out the characters further. Although, they did a nice job shortening up the Aoi interview stuff. Beyond the sister revelation the rest isn't super important so cutting down that part was a smart move.

This episode completed 2+ chapters of LN 7. There are only 4+ chapters left for the last 3 episodes.

Man i really feel for Minami, I completely understand always being second best. It makes you feel like you’re not special. And again this is why I dont like shows that are love triangles or harems as generally one would always end up getting hurt.

Kikuchi is also a nice person which is why this is hard.

Only 3 more eps to go

The part with Minami as always the best ;d too bad it was so short screentime for her ;/ Strange that Fumiya still has to think after best girl said twice that she likes him;d

Fuuka part was nice, but so long time for that novel was kinda boring ;/ but at least she catched on Aoi act quickly :P I am starting to think Aoi is sad/angry with her life when she is alone not having to act.

Man, that bench scene between Mimimi and Tomozaki does not have me feeling good on the Mimimi win lol, it was a good scene tho, it took me back to when Mimimi first opened up about being 2nd place in everything during Season 1, it was nice hearing her explain why she chose Tomozaki. Unfortunately Tomozaki is still unsure on how to proceed with things, I’m thinking Mimimi is about to be 2nd place in love too which has me sad lol, we’ll probably know as things progress with Kikuchi but so far it’s just been the story for the play they’ve been focusing on.

And speaking of the play, we got quite the extensive scene featuring Kikuchi’s story, and I’m ngl I did find it a little boring but I did like the use of one of the classic Season 1 osts near the end of it and I do like how it contrasts with reality, I didn’t catch it until Tomozaki pointed out how the characters are like people he knows, and I’m betting this will also lead into Tomozaki learning how Kikuchi feels about him, it’s just playing out too perfectly lol. And then something truly intriguing happened, in an effort to properly write the character that’s based on Hinami, Kikuchi attempted to learn about her straight from the source, and Kikuchi could immediately tell it was all lies. And then came to snooping out Hinami’s past with classmates from both elementary and middle school, and the reveal about Hinami either having one sister or sisters is a weird start to unraveling the mystery that is Hinami, this has me wondering if we’re in for a “Migi and Dali” situation but I kinda doubt that lol, but man I gotta know more hopefully before this season ends.

Best girl Mimimi and Brain finally discuss the confession! Fumiya is left even more confused after her explanations 😅

The play parts are a bit long, we don’t really need to know all the details of what what changed and whatnot.

Pretty weird to seek out old classmates to ask questions about your friend for a play… but we might finally get more insight about the real person behind Aoi’s mask!

Yup, Mimimi is probably not the one getting picked. So sad considering how open she was about it and how well you could see the relationship working out. In any case, it's time to see what's Aoi hiding behind that perfect mask.

Hmmm well at least Mimimi made her feelings clear with Tomozaki so it's status quo for now and somehow that makes things less awkward between them. But I guess Tomozaki failed to see another hint about his Kikuchi Route, the pointer that the original 'Libra' character is supposed to be based on him and Kris' motivation to 'fly' (i.e. see the outside world) is only there if Libra will always be with her. But props to him for at least figuring out that the story is based on Kikuchi's own life experience/perspectives.
Anyway, 3 more episodes to go, but I have to say this season really is going well so far and looks like we'll get to unravel more details about what kind of person Hinami is.

God I don’t care what the fucking play is about and if I have to go through another episode of them explaining the plot I might drop this season. They have such a good thing going with the love triangle but the B plot is just full of a boring story I don’t care about. Really feels like the production company is just cheapskating the 2nd half of the season by doing these low budget animations of the story kikuchi made up.

@Dexterously I would guess it is the pacing. Trying to cram 4 volumes into 13 episodes has proven to be a mistake imo. 3 volumes in 12 episodes for season 1 worked well. They're rushing from plot point to plot point without letting the audience sit in a moment more and soak it in with the thoughts of Tomozaki or other characters. I'm still enjoying it but that would be my guess as to what you are feeling.

I don't blame the anime team for wanting to end on the 7th volume, that's the right one to end on, but adding only 1 more episode to the season didn't give them enough time to do it successfully. For everyone's reference, Mimimi's confession is the climax and ending of volume 6.

For anyone annoyed with the play stuff, as revealed in the episode today, it is basically the story of Kikuchi herself being told so that's why it is a focus. In episode 8 Kikuchi admitted that the reason she wasn't able to finish the story is because she couldn't decide which girl should end up with Libra. She even asks Tomozaki how he would choose between two girls that were special to him. Now, we learned in this episode that Kikuchi is essentially Kris while Tomozaki is Libra. They also interviewed Aoi to try to learn more about her to better flesh out Alucia.

Can everyone put 2 and 2 together now or do I need to spell it out further? There are hints from Season 1 about this too so this isn't just something from this season either.

They aren't spending all this time on the play for shits and giggles y'all. Give the author some credit!

@Seansy Yeah, people should look into the detail from the OP too. The play is all about Kikuchi's feeling.
Kikuchi is a good observer, she has been looking about Tomozaki-Aoi relationship since first, I think.
Libra, Althea, and Chris are them.

Even in dating, Aoi just treats everything as if it's a game, it's ingrained into her character.

Tomozaki as the director for the class play based on Fuka's source, while juggling the class as a manga café also, things are heating for the love triangle between Minami and Fuka. But it's clear as day that when he is left alone with the former, it gets a lot awkward. Still, for the boy whom she looks up to for change, it's no doubt that Minami has been changed by Tomozaki, and he makes her affections clear in the usual natural, but tsundere way.

Interestingly enough, the portrait of the play, even with its revisions, subtly speaks of the relationships between Tomozaki, Fuka and Minami, despite its boring storytelling as plot that is reminiscent of the classmates-turned-friends that Tomozaki has made thus far. There is the affinity that Fuka has progressively improved the overall script as time passes, and it feeling very human, just like his own social interactions, because it tells her social story from her own POV. The question is, how to improve further at it, and calling Aoi for a humanly interview may just be the wrong person, but in other ways, a rather perfect facade of her own character. To that extent, calling forth her early school classmates Tachibana and Maebashi for context (with her permission of course), both Tomozaki and Fuka get more information, like Aoi having sisters (with a plural "s"), something which both are hearing for the first time.

With all of the information, the script practice for the cultural festival can finally begin...what developments will come out from this?

@RizanEx_yc You are exactly right! I totally forgot about this detail, good catch! A good example of foreshadowing in the OP. This is somewhat common with OPs from shows adapted from another source material.

I think details get forgotten from previous weeks episodes that explain how things are connected. Maybe binging it all at once would help with keeping all of these details together in the viewers mind as the story progresses? Idk.

My thoughts on episode 10:

Start it off with minami (blue hair girl aka best girl) looking super jealous, then she comes up with an excuse to get out mc away from the shy girl while also getting alone time, 1000iq play right there, mad respect for our protagonist, he didn’t give in and make minami his girlfriend instead he told her the truth. That he really doesn’t know what to do with her feelings, although I do wish he would’ve clarified that he could like her he just doesn’t know yet, but this man’s made MEGA progress from episode 1,

The play is going to be cool, I will say I wish they hadn’t told us the story the way they did, cause if I’m being honest I didn’t really care about it and it was like 10 minutes of the book, it almost felt like I had a conversation with someone and they went on a long tangent,

Shy girl while she is a very good character I personally have never liked the shy type in anime so I’m not rooting for her, but as a character I honestly don’t mind her we are seeing that she isn’t oblivious to what goes on around her and she sees straight through peoples masks, it reminded me a lot of what she said in season one, when the mc and shy girl went on a first date she told him that he was hard to talk too and all that stuff, basically seeing that he’s not being himself.

Woah, I think we are about to uncover some dark or disturbing secrets that “ally” I think? idk (Noname on the video game) anyways. That ally is hiding the fact that told someone she had 2 siblings but her other friend says she only has 1, idk I instantly got the feeling that maybe she did have to sisters and one of them past away?, but whatever it is it affected her A lot cause no one has that many walls up unless they are scared or hiding something, I think it’s both. Who knows maybe season 3 will turn into a murder mystery 😂

Conclusion. Very good episode like I said I didnt care for the long book part but hey they gotta tell the story somehow, I’m interested to see what happens with blue hair girl and how he will eventually end up with “Main girl” (ally I think) overall 8/10 episode.

i do not care if the play is meant to represent fuuka's feelings; why was that SO LONG LOL. it does not take half the episode to tell me something so simple. also, she is like so unnaturally perceptive of aoi. it just doesn't make sense to me, similar to how she is basing her characters in the play of the actors and not the reverse.

Yes, she's a good observer and this story is just her POV, but that narration was still boring as fuck. I think we can't do much when the character herself, Fuka, is the epitome of blandness.

Also please spare us with any sort of sappy backstory about Aoi. Really do.

So this is a cute episode, I really hope that Tomozaki ends up with Mimimi instead of Kikuchi, I think they have a better chemistry. I liked the little story wrote by Kikuchi. I'm really intrigued by the past of Aoi, maybe it's a dramatic one? Who knows, I just want to know Aoi better and finally see her true self.
