Hmm... dragging. That's one of the huge reason why I didn't like Higurashi's first season nearly as everyone else did. I hope they end the Isuzu clinging on to Hiro soon, because it's starting to bore me. Please get on with the plot! I'm dying to know more about the murderer in freaky mask.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Better. Much better. Isuzu wasn't as annoying, and neither was her voice! :D sounded a lot like Mayoi who I love so it's all good. Oh, Hiro's voice was better too. Much more masculine. (People need to stop complaining about him looking like a girl, honestly, he's an anime character.)

"I'd love to have Hiro-kun as my brother!" yeah, and that's not creepy at all.

Issei's gay little sweater thing is gay.

Kaname is my favourite character so far.<3 But Nemuru has the best design. *w*

No I don't think it's a yaoi (considering the OP has him standing with three girls), just a little over-obsessive BL moment. He's probably going through that feral thing.

Doesn't make it any less creepy.

Putting it this way: Considering that this is practically more or less another 11eyes, this is a lot better.

Why is Hiro being so popular anyway? I don't get it. I mean.. He's bland, not at all interesting. Oh the feeble minds of these people (・3・ア

Kana-chan~ You're taking water over your head ( ´Д`)ノ(´・ω・`)

Btw, compared to Isuzu, Kana looks rather good ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌
And geeez Isuzu is.. Really clingy (・3・ア

So, my guess:

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and it also sounds like a suitable amount of clever thinking from AIC (And since it's coming from Ryukishi07). ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.

Lol at the preview. I thought Isuzu was feeling Hiro up until they showed Issei's crazy face. O.O

Another blah episode.
They all but held up a sign that says "The fruit has something to do with it," so if it doesn't, I'll be quite surprised. Also, more annoying characters prattling on in annoying (not creepy) ways. There's a difference between what's going on here, and the Stepford creepy vibe. It feels like the show is going for Stepford creepy and is just failing in every way. Maybe it's the Japanese, pubescent version of "perfect," but it just feels so dumb.
Whatever, more yaoi vibes next week. Even though Hiroshi is practically a girl, seeing him blush at what's his name is still hilarious.

Things that suck about this:

1) the character designs (Isuzu in particular looks annoying)
2) the voices (Isuzu and Hiro)
3) the flattened, archetypal characters (all of them are completely unoriginal in nearly every way)
4) the bits where it tries to rip off higurashi
5) the uninspiring directing
6) the overly straightforward and boring storytelling

Can you really say it's "ripping Higurashi off" when it's written by the same dude? Well, I guess you could say it. I don't think it's ultimately going to be like Higurashi though.

I'm not really feeling so great about this series. I had higher hopes for it, too.

Instead of feeling anticipation and interest in the big mystery, I'm only really feeling slight curiosity...but nothing more. The characters certainly do not help. I think Kaname and Hiro's dad are the only ones I like to some extent. I couldn't care less about the others.

I will give this until episode 5 to pick up...otherwise, this will be added to my Dropped list >.>

Agreed with everything you said.

In Ryukishi07's works however you have to wait till Ep 4-Ep 6 for this to be an exciting mystery. When I saw the first few eps of Higurashi and Umineko I was planning on dropping it, though I kept on and both are now one of my favorite animes.

5) the uninspiring directing
6) the overly straightforward and boring storytelling

1) I don't know the designs are starting to grow on me.
2) Voices didn't bother me at all.
3) Oh yes, you seen two episodes. You clearly know everything about the characters. Did you know that the playboy might try to rape the main character in the next episode?(Or that's what I am assuming but I hope I am wrong)
4) It's the same setting. That's about the only thing that's a ripoff. The setting does not matter. What he does with it is the real question. After all fate/stay night took the same setting and made three great stories out of it.
5) The director does worry me but so far I don't get why this annoys you.
6) Visual novels start off slow. You can't expect twenty people to die in the first episode. This is whats called "building up the story". For a mystery it's essential. You can expect the story to push you knee deep in excitement if you don't even know the background elements that could lead to unexpected twists.
So please don't bitch if you have no idea what you are talking about.

Anyway, I thought that this is starting to show potential. Isuzu was not as bad as she was in the beginning. In fact I think shes starting to show that she has a deeper personality. There must be an obvious reason why shes clinging to the main character. I am starting to grow to like the other characters as well.
But come on people! Quit bitching like spoiled brats and at least give the show a chance to get the story started. Then you can mock it.

It's pretty obvious that all the people that find the dull main character and his family interesting are wolves. What isn't obvious is whether or not Nemuru and her nightly assasin crew are wolves. I suspect if they are wolves then Nemuru would have to be their pack leader since they all seem to respect and follow her. If she isn't a wolf then she may be one of the few humans still alive and possibly given the task of making sure the wolves know their place. I presume all the humans live on the old side of town and all the wolves live on the new side. I came up with this conclusion due her Issei's brother mentioning that his family moved to the new side...and from the preview we know Issei's brother is a wolf.

In any case it seems they have a rule that prevents them from getting too close to humans. If they do then they get put down as we've seen twice so far. I'm not exactly sure if this rule is to protect humans from being slaughtered or to protect the pure blood of their pack (ie. No sex between humans or wolves outside their pack).

What I don't get is the significance of the fruit that they've been throwing in our face almost every 2 seconds. Wolves favor meat over fruit so it's a bit baffling why they have a dancing wolf holding melons.

This anime is interesting. I cant wait to see what twists await us.

um idk... this might just be me rambling so i might TOTALLY be off, but from what i've gathered so far, heres my prediction:

I THINK, the old town is full of normal people who fall victim to the new towns people, whom i think are ancestory of some sort to werewolves( somehow related to them) and when a person from the old town falls victim to the new towns people werewolf crap, they move into new town and join them instead, creating an obvious dislike between towns. but i think later on they may lose concience of their human self and became an estranged wolf or something, and then are slayed (or "purified" if thats what you want to call it) by IM ASSUMING the five major werewolfs or protectors of new town. which, im assuming is consisted of nemuru, and four other unspecified characters.

if this is true, thennnnn i think nemuru and isuzu would be fighting because if hiroshi falls victim to the new towns crap, as he is a normal human and there's a high chance of it happening, he may go estranged and then nemuru and the guardians would have to kill him...so isuzu promises to protect him.

and for some reason, i get a random feeling that that guy we keep seeing enclosed in his room(the one who had his wife or something killed) is a werewolf living in old town in hiding. and they probably killed his loved ones to get to him or make him pay for something..

as for that damn annoying fruit, idk the significance of it exactly, but it might be like a suppressor for new towns werewolf people. so maybe they don't totally succumb to their werewolf side or something ? idk...

this just my prediction though :P i mite be totally wrong, so don't listen to me haha

Even though we're all making rape jokes, I think the preview makes it clear that he's not coming onto him for sex. I mean, look at his eyes! Whatever it is that makes people freak out in this town is what's happening to him. I think he wants to eat him in an entirely different way, er.

Anyway, I thought the most interesting thing in this episode was the argument between Isuzu and Nemuru. I was really curious what was being said there, and it showed a side of Isuzu we haven't seen before. I really can't hate her that much after that scene, because I think there's obviously something weird going on here with her.

I love that people are saying that they shouldn't expect this show to get good until a few episodes from now because Higurashi and Umineko started off slowly. While Umineko definitely did (but that's only because they had half a dozen characters to introduce), I remember Higurashi having the main character murder the supporting characters rather quickly in the show (wasn't it the first or second episode?). If Higurashi had anything going for it in the first season, it was that it had atmosphere and tension coming out the ass from the get go (that's what a good director does). If Umineko had anything from the first season (and this is a stretch, because I hated the show) it was an interesting concept.

So far, Ookami doesn't have the atmosphere of Higurashi, and as of right now, doesn't have the concept of Umineko. To top that off, because the cast is so small, so flat, and so annoying (this was Higurashi's problem also, except for a few characters who weren't children) there's really nothing to pay attention to besides the fact that Ryukishi made this. That's why the word 'ripoff' gets used. That's why people say it's boring and slow.

Well actually it was episode 4...so it's still in bearable dimensions right now.
Still I have to agree that Higurashi's anime adaption (and even the much disliked Umineko anime) was much better better at creating a chilly and tense atmosphere where you actually were kept at the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next.

While Ookamikakushi is calmer compared to those two, even as a VN, the anime somehow fails to portrait the creepy parts of the story correctly and justs speeds towards the important plot points, leaving characterization as well as atmosphere behind.
Well the positive thing is that Umineko as an anime starts to shine even more when being compared to this...^^°
But I really hope they start to pick up the tension a bit next episode...because THEY CAN, I assure you.

Nope, not at all! We did see a "flashforward" to the murder at the beginning of the first episode (not unlike the flashforward at the beginning of the first episode of this series), but the actual murders didn't take place until episode 4, the last in the first arc. (You did have the murders of Takano and Tomitake in the 2nd or 3rd episode though.)

The Higurashi anime did do a very good job at injecting tension into what at times felt like a weird slice of life anime in those first few episodes though. I can't say the same for this show, but it's definitely not as bad as some are making it out to be -- I'm content to wait and see what happens before I make any sweeping statements about its quality-level.

good episode. Isuzu is really annoying. I saw the prew: Oh,my God! Yaoi?! Nooo!!! I think and hope not.

Quick question: Is this supposed to wrap up by the end of its run or is it in the question/answer format of Higurashi and Umineko?

Also, I don't think that anything unfair has been said about the show (maybe I need to reread this thread, and read the 11 pages I skipped last week). The first few episodes are very important in setting the tone for the show. More often than not (from my experience), if there is nothing to latch onto in the beginning, then that's going to be somewhat indicative of the series. Are there exceptions? Yes, but I can't really think of any by now.

And I think there is a difference between bad and derivative. This show just seems soullessly derivative right now, which, in comparison to something horribly bad like Akikan, feels worse because it's not so bad that you can laugh at it.

An interesting follow up episode despite the slow rythm and average direction. Still, the third episode will be great fun, seeing the preview.

And I find it quite strange that most of you guys hate Isuzu instead of the horrendous main character Hiro. Yep she's clingy and annoying but at least she's not hesitant, wimpy and weak.

Oh yeah ! But don't worry, I bet some wolf-adoring villagers will punish him soon enough.
