Nobody is that surprised after seeing a lot of anime with powerups coming out of the blue either. Those who watched or read Fairy Tail would know.
Anime business is changing and stuff, but meh! I'm not that surprised myself.
Anime is still cool and stuff, but I agree with whoever said that flipping a page of some graphic novel is more convenient than watching a whole episode.
Even the continent of Falconia from FF6 (after Kefka sent an old coot skydiving to his death and brought a cataclysm to the world under his feet; causing many towns to perish completely) and the sandy town of Morroc after being bounded by destruction (bounded by demons and darkness after Satan Morroc unleashed its demonic fury on that whole entire wasteland killing many innocent people) were made to be that messed up too. All those worlds got casualties which was expected too. Otherwise, they wouldn't touch on themes of survival, hope, loss or all of the above.
Fafner definitely needs season 3 though and explain the cosmic origins of those festum (space aliens) better than EVA ever could for its respective deep space antagonists. 14 volumes later and people are still waiting for cosmic origins out of those Angels. Like where do they come from? Andromeda?
I still want to know what exoplanet or galaxy those festum creatures came from. They most certainly didn't come from hell even though they seem hellish enough or very dark. What is certain is that it's more than mere mecha and definitely not kids stuff. Mere mecha most certainly doesn't revolve around a very powerful creature from the cosmos capable of wiping out towns in the blink of an eye like Kefka did or crushing continents, plunging the world into darkness.
By the way milady, I think that you're going to love Gundam SEED Freedom very much. Yes, I already watched the movie and I would highly recommend it to you for your birthday. Probably the best two hours of your time so far.
Thanks for the e-cake by the way and I may have something special just for you on the day of your birthday. For now, I'll wish you a hug and I would definitely recommend Genki I in case you're looking for the best Japanese study guide ever. I'm certainly addicted to that book.
Sandman? Not sure if I know that one yet, but I discovered at least 12 indie graphic novels that are potentially like Twilight Venom or Solty Rei, some of the most underrated anime I've ever seen. I'm also glad that I found this interesting, space western indie comic called Copperhead which delves into themes of corruption and isolation. Yes, I'm a big fan of space westerns too and I also look forward to reading some steampunk indie comics that I discovered recently with stories potentially like Wild Arms.
Fafner was not really what I was looking for, probably because it veered too much toward drama/bitter-sweet. As I recall I didn't even watch the sequel movie, because it was too heavy. Other than that, I'm not a big connoisseur of the mecha genre, so I'll take your word for the rest of the reviews.
As for reading, I'm happier with "regular" novels. Am a big fan of Japanese and Korean literature, but mostly stuff that I'd call "slice of life" in anime. I mainly read yaoi manga, and comics almost never. Except for Sandman which was recommended by a friend, but I struggled through the first few volumes, because I'm partial to the classic bishoujo/bishounen drawing style. The Sandman artists however were more into avant-garde stuff.
Oh yes you're right. They are. And now I'm wondering why I even have this on my profile. Probably because I generally forget about my MAL account. Sooo... hope you have a good one. *offers e-cake*
My former Ragnarok Online playmate told me that she hated AGE.
The story of Witch From Mercury is a also very dimwitted compared to Armored Core games which have cryptic and deeper stories. From Software FTW! Simply because they know how to make mecha games seem explosively fantastic. Gundam games could sell better if they played like third-person shooters instead of being all arcadey and experimental.
With that said, how are you doing this summer?
I also look forward to reading interesting indie comics like Wanted by Year of the Snake so I can be the graphic novel Jack of all trades. Read beyond Witchblade and The Crow. Not sure if League of Extraordinary Gentlemen counts as alternative or indie, but I think that it should be adapted into anime like Witchblade did. That 2003 movie left out a lot of interesting details in the original Alan Moore story and I don't think that DC Animation even knows what League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is.
Even more than Howl's Moving Castle, also an adaptation.
Speaking of anime movies, I am literally dying to see future Macross movies said half-Asian tomboy told me about like fairly recently.
I almost forgot that our birthdays are practically next door.
My historical loving friend from North Carolina would definitely love to watch the movie too when she gets out of overtime labor. The current economy doesn't exactly cooperate unfortunately (my shoujo loving friend has to read manga while working day and night; she'll have to miss out on the Magic Knight Rayearth remake, but fortunately for her, she read that whole entire source material).
That tomboyish Canadian friend of mine Misty is also thinking of watching said movie once things ease up in her country. Also working overtime.
My half-Asian friend (got Bubblegum Crisis on her last birthday practically next door to June) and I thought that Sunrise was revisiting old timelines soon after she told me about said movie. Hathaway's Flash and The Origin as of late are more proof that they have.
As for Japanese, I had to read Instant Japanese and Oxford before I could read all those RAW volumes of Silent Möbius (sequel included). Genki I and 80/20 Japanese are great for beginners too. I've waited 20 years to get my hands on Silent Möbius after witnessing that cliffhanger on TechTV.
Anime business in a nutshell, using most manga as advertisement.
Other than that, I'm still practicing Japanese particles. At least the more commonly used particles (ga, wa, ni, no, mo, etc) and I heard that Southern Min has particles that are more simple with more consistent grammatical function.
I don't know what Korean particles are like, but I'll have to wait and see for another day.
Have you been studying Japanese too and what do you think of that Gundam SEED movie as of late?
Right now I'm trying to get my manga in order: so many "Reading" that I completely lost track of and might be completed by now. Bushido Sixteen is awesome (and completed). I rec it if you can read a manga that's mostly about kendo.
The only thing I'm still watching is Game of Thrones, which is just an hour every Monday and is only 10 episodes long; haven't even rewatched more of Lain or watched any movies.
I dropped Deadman Wonderland after 2 eps. Way too juvenile. It's now number 111 on my Dropped list. Ugh.
I'll suggest Tiger & Bunny, tho I'm waiting for more feedback from you later on. ^^ I agree about the older working adults being a plus. This is part of the reason why I can't get into AnoHana.
I didn't watch Hourou Musuko at all. Don't ask me why, I just dunno. Dropped Fractale after the 1st ep. The loli team was retarded, I just could not take any more scenes with them.
I'm curious about Tiger & Bunny.

+ second version of my post:
Yeah, it's great. Derivative, but potentially subversive? The visuals are interesting. There is a contrast between the first scene, which is a black and white world, all clear lines and CGI finish, and proves to be a dream, and the actual moment when magic erupts in the world, which is all grainy, hand-drawn and colorful (as in done in pencils) and absurd, all rough and childlike and surreal.
And there is another contrast between introducing the Dark MagicGirl, which is done all in short scenes packing cliches, and her interaction with the other lead, which is all quietness and slow build up of tension in a scene longer than any she had till then.
I liked the characters. I even liked the adult-but-cute adult characters.
Uh... there was an interesting setup in the previews in that the Nanoha-ripoff setting ends up with a familiar that can give his contractee any wish. Any wish. But this doesn't seem to be all sunshine and puppies at all, so that's one thing that drew me in - aside from the visuals and the music and the yuri images (which are hilarious) in the OP and the Utena touches and the fact that at times I remembered Mai HiME and the fact that there was no nudity in the transformation sequence and even the fact that said transformation sequence was of an older character - well, older than the loli cast, but still a teenager. *deep breath* Anyway... yeah.
