Somehow Sumi, the girl with the least amount of speaking lines among the main cast became relevant again.

Episode is filled with shenanigans but it was annoying to hear all of Kazuya's thoughts every second. This felt somewhat like a 'date' I guess? Not impressed from what I saw but hey, Sumi is happy. I'm also seeing some power ranger gimmicks being thrown into this epsiode.

this episode was really entertaining!
Kazuya learned from Sumi that saying your feelings to another person is the best BirthPres, but, well... not in his case though lol
that plum (idk how to say Umeboshi in English) is really sour like his feeling, so he did a nice job... until he like mentioned in the letter "I swear to God I didn't do it with Ruka-chan!"
bro, you Don't write those kinda things...
YOU SAY THEM IN THE MOST SERIOUS VOICE YOU CAN MAKE! (at least that's what I'll do though) しらんけど
Anyway, that was a really good episode, Sumi is cute as HELL! But oh! what a coincidence! MIZUHARA is the Renta-Hero Pink! I thought from that point that the best present for Chizuru is to take her to a Stage where an actual actors who are well known in the industry are playing there, and to give her more hope that she can succeed as an actress!

I just love how kazuya manages between all the 3 girls in his life...
hm? Mami? what is that? is it Tasty?

Great episode! Sumi appears again! It's sad that the manga based on her (Kanojo Hitorishimasu has gone on hiatus though...)
Any Sumi is great to see after all!
(Don't have much else to say apart from praise Sumi this time for some reason xD)

Looking forward to the next episode!

Even though their date was a bit lackluster, it was great seeing Komi Sumi again.

Anyways, Kazuya following Chizuru back to her room while holding the trash was the real highlight of this episode.

I'll never understand what the point of other girls is in this series. Kazuya clearly loves Chizuru, so what do the other 3 offer to the series? Sure, if Kazuya didn't love Chizuru, and we had an actual harem with no clear winner, then yeah it would make sense to have more girls. But again that isn't the case here. It just seems like a way for the author to prolong the series as much as possible to make more money. It's understandable, but from a viewers pov, it's also completely pointless and tiresome to watch. Especially in episodes that feature Sumi, the long pauses are unbearable.

This episode made me love kanokari season 2 even more especially since it came after the ruka episode which was worse than average. With the return of cumi my lust for her returned and now I want to fap to her even more than before. Also the abscense of every other major character besides kazuya made the experience even better. Thanks for that episode I appreciate these episodes to the fullest.

Today on Rent-A-Girlfriend: Sumi Can't Communicate or Sumi-san wa, Comyushou desu.

Sumi is best girl.

Anyway, it's a episode of rent-a-girlfriend, so... yeah.

We can sh*t on Rent-A-Girlfriend all we want, but we gotta admit that the animation holds up compared to some other anime airing this season.

Um, I never thought about it that way since I thought this was a harem. But since you mentioned it, I just realized that you're right. Since this isn't a harem, and Kazuya already made his choice, Chizuru, having the other girls just bloat up the story until its conclusion when they get completely massacred when Kazuya doesn't choose them. With that thought, it makes Kazuya seem even more horrible than cringe since he's leading them on, just to hurt them later, especially in the case of Ruka.

Episodes without Mami and ruka are so ass, man. I did appreciate seeing Sumi take some initiative and actually help out Kazuya. Could not have imagined her doing that last season.

Also thought it was cute how she took note of kazuya’s birthday and I’m sure she’ll have him a nice gift after seeing how thoughtful he can be for others.

Much better episode than last week simply for this one being Sumi focused. Her, Ruka and Chizuru are all best girls but the one I think is the best match for Kazuya is Sumi. She brings the best out of him like she did here. Sumi is about the only one who doesn't cause Kazuya anxiety or grief. Her silent demeanor does cause confusion but nothing like with Chizuru or Ruka where Kazuya is practically flailing around. Sumi even with barely talking still has the best communication with Kazuya. Since she talks so little he can't over think her what she says and means like with the other two. Sumi helping him pick q birthday present for Chizuru is possibly the best idea Kazuya had all series. Chizuru is trying really hard to make it as an actress even doing those sentai shows for kids just to her exposure in hopes it would lead to a big break. Sumi had the perfect plan of Kazuya seeing Chizuru working hard would give him a hint of what to get for her birthday. He ended up picking not too bad a gift.

Even in casual clothing Chizuru's still cute. Despite what she thinks Ruka's words back then did hurt her quite a bit. Its nice to see Sumi again. As cute as ever too. But its nice to see how show some initiative when she was trying to help Kazu in finding the perfect present. Chizuru taking the time to bring joy to kids despite her hectic schedule really shows well her determination and kindness. Still Sumi finding the courage to ask for Kazu's birthday was a great first step for her bravo girl. My that was such a indirect method of getting that present to Chizuru. But in the end im glad that Kazu did end up picking something for her. A little simple but as Sumi said its the sentiment that counts.

So indeed, Kazuya's risque night with Ruka got found out by Mizuhara, shouldn't be a surprise there. And she is the type not to hear excuses, which leaves Kazuya egged. But there is a catch: her birthday, and knowing what she wants is a tough job. So, thankfully there's Best Girl Sumi to come help him.

Sumi is ostensibly dressed for the occasion, and though she is still blushing, she's not the unconfident girl we've seen her throughout Season 1, which is a vast improvement. Kazuya is just shameless trying to ask Sumi, but it's the only way, and despite being a rental girlfriend, she's doing all she can to help the helpless MC.

Sumi is being Komi this episode to lead Kazuya along...to a kids show, and lo and behold, Mizuhara has to be there as well. I just love the small jabs they're giving themselves, like "Rent-a-Fighter", haha WTH? Sumi is as close to being the perfect girlfriend, but sad that she's no more than just a tool for help. Sumi would feel so wasted for someone like him, even getting to know the simpleton's birthday.

Instead, Kazuya's birthday gift to Mizuhara: a box of pickled plums, plus a sincere note of apology.
Already missing Sumi too soon and gone...

Not that I'm asking for any realism in a show that has rentable girlfriends, but Chizuru should be able to decline or accept any customer she chooses, not just "work for hire". An uber driver can decline a request to be picked up. Chizuru should be able to see Kazuya's request to hire her, and swipe left.

Poor Sumi though, she was still blowing on her cappuccino or whatever to cool it down, not even having taken a sip of it yet, and Kazuya is already urging them to go on to the next spot. :(

Also was it just me or could you count the number of shots where characters AREN'T blushing on one hand? I mean it's nothing new, but man the effect blush usually gives has certainly lost its effect by now

All things considered, I think Kazuya silently delivering his gift and message to Chizuru was a step in the right direction. Inb4 he takes 2 steps back by the next episode probably as usual

Can a weak willed, desperate, block head resist these three beautiful women all making varying advances toward him? The only way he can ever get to the woman he wants to be with is by abstaining and growing in fidelity to someone who (from his vantage point) he likely won’t end up with.

It’s in this sense they exist in the story as a mechanism to test his dedication, to produce internal conflict that causes him to grow in the virtue of fidelity and to make the chance of ending up with Chizuru that much more rewarding.

They have their own personalities as well, and character arcs but unfortunately the bulk of the role they play is reduced to a means by which Kazuya deepens his resolve to be with Chizuru.

The thing is, he's not growing. He never does. After seeing some manga spoilers, he smh becomes even worse. It's not gonna be rewarding at all. You would be right if this series was coherent, but it just isn't. The side girls offer nothing to Kazuyas development, so there just seems to be absolutely nothing that can justify their useless presence in this series.

He has already grown quite a bit though. He went from simply following his d*ck around, to having the resolve to pursue one girl, to now supporting her dream even knowing that by doing so he’s multiplying the chances of not ending up with her.

Sure he has lots of room to grow, any college kid does, but expecting his awkward mannerisms to improve before his motivations is putting the cart before the horse. The motivation to simply see Chizuru succeed whether he is there or not is enough of a motivational shift that I trust he’ll grow in other ways from there. Without that underlying shift in putting what’s best for someone else ahead of your own interests theres no base for any meaningful development to take place that isn’t shallow. It’d be forced, behavioral & cosmetic rather than organically coming from a real meaningful change of heart.

We get a Sumi episode since Chizuru is interested in speaking to Kazuya after finding out that Ruka stayed at his place. Kazuya decides to rent Sumi after running into her while deciding on what to get for Chizuru's birthday. Sumi suggest that presents should be sentimental which lead to Kazuya silently giving Chizuru a box of sweets at her door step.

This anime is entertaining me, based on this I could say I like it. Half of the haters are manga readers, no matter how many times someone say “ If you hate it, just don’t watch and move on” they will continue giving hatred to this show. The animation is excellent, the story is ok and the ost is good, moreover the mix of feelings this show give to me is nice.

Kazuya "But I kept it in my pants with Ruka," bro you jacked off in the shower thinking about Ruka. You are such a manipulative liar.

Quite girl has returned and she is by far the best character in this show. You know why, because she has barely any lines so she can't say anything stupid. However she seems to like Kazuya probably because she is innocent and he is her first love.

I’m with a lot of others in rejoicing for a Sumi focused episode, damn this was so good, Sumi isn’t necessarily my favorite but she’s on the way there if we get more Sumi greatness like this. She was incredibly cute the whole date, definitely kinda reminds me of Komi-san with how she barely talks, but it just makes her all the cuter lol, I got a lot of screenshots needless to say thanks to all her expressions.

Of course the point tho was to find out what Mizuhara would want for her birthday, which let to seeing her perform in a live hero show for kids, I really do love seeing her act just like Kazuya. And wow, loved that moment when Sumi stopped Kazuya and asked what his birthday is, incredibly cute paired with her reaction afterward. And I loved the final bit where Mizhara found her present outside, it was wholesome like I expected.

This was one of those episodes where I’m reminded why I love this show, I just absolutely disagree with all the hate for it, this is without a doubt one of the funnest shows to watch and a favorite Romcom of mine for sure.

Advice for you haters: just stop watch it.
If I see an anime series I dont like, I instantly stop watching. Is that easy, isn't it?

It's easy what they have to offer, actually having other character interactions. This would be so fucking boring with only Chizuru and Kazuya, and I know because it has happened in the manga. You can just put girls to have more cute girls for the sake of whatever even, like, touch any popular romcom where the pairing is clear since the beggining, that doesn't stop them from having more girls in love or not in love of the MC.
