Alice in Horrorland is now closed
Answers are under their respective games
Thank you to everyone who played Alice in Horrorland. I'm thrilled at how many people gave it a try. I wanted to give a nod to my favourite live-action Japanese drama so I tried to throw some references throughout the answers (Nijirou Murakami, Netflix, a song by Yutaka Yamada).
I'll see you all again next year with another round of riddles
You're walking downtown on a chilly October afternoon. People are bustling around you. A man is walking his dog across the street while a pair of cyclists pass you on the side of the road. You take a seat on a bench at the bus stop next to an older lady reading a newspaper and take out your phone. You're scrolling through your social media when, all of a sudden, the screen goes blank. Fiddling with your phone, the screen stays dark no matter how many times you try to turn it back on. You raise your head and notice the lady sitting next to you isn't there anymore. Taking a glance around, you realize that the area seems to have been completely deserted. The man and his dog have vanished, there's no more traffic on the road, nothing.
Perplexed, you put your phone into your pocket and began walking further down the street. The further into town you go, the more worried you become as you can't find any signs of another living being. Cars were left parked in the middle of the road missing their drivers. Plates of spoiled food decorated tabletops at a restaurant you pass by. Even when you reach the centre of town, not a single person is there. Your heart begins to race. Before you have time to process what might have happened, one of the digital signs at a bus stop lights up. The screen is white except for one sentence: This way to the game arena. Underneath it is a large arrow.
With no other options and no other way to find out what happened to the world around you, you decide to follow the arrow towards the game arena.
How the Game Works
- In order to escape the game, you need to complete the suit of Diamonds
- There are 13 cards that all lead to various anime/industry references. As the game goes on, the cards will get progressively harder. While having some anime knowledge will make this much easier, all answers can still be found if you decipher the riddle correctly
- If you get all 13, you get . If you don't, you will suffer the same fate as all those who let their visas expire.
- There is a bonus question! If you answer it, you will receive a bonus candy. If you don't, you still beat the game but with one less piece of candy
Rules
- Your visa will expire on October 31st 7pm EST. Use this form to submit your answers when you think you have them and leave a comment in the thread so you can get your results.
- You have unlimited attempts to submit your answers. Don't be afraid to try again (It's a good idea to keep your answers written down somewhere. If you lose/forget them, PM me and I'll send you what you submitted on your previous attempt).
- If you are stuck, you can message me for a hint (if it's outside BST daytime hours, it might take longer for a response). You have 3 hints to use, so use them wisely.
- There is no limit to how many hints can be used on one game (i.e. You can use all your hints on one game or split them up)
- Hints can only be used up if you ask me yourself (i.e. nothing I give you in your results counts as a hint). There will be no hint for the bonus question
- No commenting spoilers or hints. If I see anything in the thread that might spoil the game for someone else, the comment will be deleted and you'll fail the game
- If you make it through the whole game without using any hints, you get an extra bonus candy.
With all 13 cards in hand, you are faced with a choice: finish the game and return back to the world you knew or find whoever is running this and end the game for everyone once and for all. The choice is yours to make.
