Inoue serialized the basketball manga in Weekly Shounen Jump between 1990 and 1996. Shueisha published the manga in 31 volumes between 1991 and 1996 and republished 24 new edition volumes under the Jump Comics Deluxe imprint in 2001–2002.
Toei Animation adapted the manga into a 101-episode television anime that aired from October 1993 to March 1996. The animation studio also produced four short films featuring side stories during the television series' broadcast.
this seems pretty interesting but I wonder how jarring the change in animation between the first series and this new film will be lmao, but now I have a reason to watch Slam Dunk
Do new anime fans even know what Slam Dunk is?
I admit I only started hearing about this series last year or so and that was from some random Anitube video.
Writing and directing, this will be interesting, hopefully it's gonna be great.
“I just spent the last two years thinking that you guys knew more than me about life and I just found out that you guys are just as dumb as me.” “Duh-doy.” “Yeah, duh-doy.”
I believe that I once heard or read that Inoue-sensei wasn't, exactly, happy with the previous adaptation. Knowing that, it comes as no surprise that he wanted to take the matter into his own hands. :D
Magito said: I'd watch this even if its starts at the beginning.
But I do wish they continue what the anime series left off.
Agreed. I hope we will see the rest of the story from the manga. Really missed my tensai boy Hanamichi. Maybe they will divide it into 2 or 3 parts, who knows?
First ever Anime I have seen. Read the manga like many times and watched the anime many many times! I thought the Nationals was incredible, felt upset the anime was canceled in between. After watching and reading Slam Dunk I couldn't start ANY OTHER manga, then I found Haikyuu. Oh well, I'm ranting. I am excited!!!!

Nor is there overrating, only people who do not know how to qualify fairly, like me.
