This is one of the shows where I could find most potential to grow and to compete in this season. And oh my ears, I am taken away! We have a rap anime but this time it is a main part of the series. Also colorful cast and visuals, especially Ramuda, he's a real sugar treat. Also females dominating the government that in turn abolish guns for mics. Also I don't think it's just me but are they showing a "Divide-and-Conquer" strategy here? Maybe I see it in that way which makes me like this more.

Now of course, hip hop (US) and J-rap will sound different from language alone and how its lyrics flows in its own. And yes, I could already see the flaws for this. Firstly, why can the villains not allowed to rap back to our protagonists (plot armor, eh?). Second, they could blend in better production or beats in this cause yea the lyrics are solidly fine but if the sound is a bit off or a little wack, overall it will be a mediocre record for me.

But that's my nitpicks, I see potential here just like on Assault Lily to be good contenders for the Fall. Hope it don't crash itself on a brick wall or in other words...choke itself in the middle of the rap battle.

God I love Hypnosis Mic. It plays itself so seriously despite the ridiculous plot, but the characters and music are genuinely fun and the manga has made me cry. I’m hoping for good things from this anime adaption

>sick beats
Yep, that's the Hypmic experience.

not that it's bad or anything it's just so over the top, you know the kind that's so corny you love it.
doppo's screaming in the OP had me dying so i can't wait to see that for the rest of the 11 episodes. seems a bit on the QUALITY side for anime but to be fair i've been watching a lot of anime movies lately, so perhaps it's just bias from that? the 3d was pretty nice, if i may spit out a hot take, it should have just been 3d from the start.

also i don't really mind the rap, i'll listen to almost anything, so that's fine. in fact i think hypmic had me become a bit more open-minded to j-rap and other indie rap (is that a genre? you know, bandcamp rappers lol) since it wasn't something i had listened to often before i became interested in hypmic.

i don't have any expectations for the story because to be quite honest that shit lost me in the manga, there's a detail about one of the main characters that just didn't fit in with the rest of the world building it had set up, that i just gave up completely, it was just that dumb. i know they'll try and incorporate that here too so strap in folks.
if you're new to hypmic though i recommend you listen/read the translations of the first several cd dramas as well as the the TDD manga early chapters, they gives backstory to how each group formed in detail and explains some of the setting in better detail as well (post ww3, the only reason i'm interested in this outside of merch and music).

at least i get to listen to sho hayami's voice for 12 episodes/10, sorry for edits back to back to back i just woke up LOL

I'm been into hypmic for a long while now so I'm watching this with biased eyes but I do love everything about the anime too omg. Maybe except that they made gentaro look less pretty in some shots and riou's face/jawline is weird.

Seeing the way the speakers came up was really cool, my favourite is samatoki's c: It was always kind of hard to imagine from the manga, I'm glad they animated it well. I see people talking about the CG but I don't find it jarring or bad at all, in fact it's pretty smooth compared to some really bad CG out there that hurts your eyes.

Also this scene which came out of nowhere is not good for my heart:

I feel like you don't need a women only government to have the development of weapons banned. Corruption, capitalism, and colonialism cause it. I'm sure some women would live in women only areas but I don't think most because its very hard to make friends if you are not around people and I assume most women want to date someone and I feel like that wouldn't happen if you never saw men(assuming you are strait). Anyways I was not really into. Pretty good though.

Not gonna lie; this is very cringe. BUT I did enjoy it. I've always liked the Hypnosis Mic music so that was part of why I enjoyed it.

I think the highlight of this anime is gonna be the characters cause they're all interesting and have such unique personalities and quirks. Is it weird that I liked the 3DCG elements too? I don't usually like 3DCG but it worked in this anime.

Damn it! This was a male idol show all along!

So... forbidding all existing weapons only refers to fire guns and the like? Because the militar rapper said he makes his own explosives without a care in the world and that other dude was about to cut a nurse's throat like it was nothing. I mean, why battle with a guy with mics if I can make him explode or stab him to death instead?

Honestly, I doubt I will like this. Visuals look extremely saturated with so many effects, bright colors and overdone character designs; the guys' personalities seems pretty generic so far and the rap music itself isn't really that engaging either. I do appreciate the fact they included different styles of rap tho.

if you pay attention in the ep, you can see doppo removed hifumi's jacket, hence why hifumi became terrified.

also, there is an overarching story in the manga/drama cds, it comes more in tidbits, and becomes more clear when start listening to more and more of the cds, but there is one.

a fair amount of them have anti-government sentiments, especially ichiro and samatoki. they just... haven't done much about it directly.

just hoping to clear some things up and hopefully make it less confusing ^^

Oh that explains things, it was 3AM and I was pretty lethargic so must've got careless. My apologies.

Right, it is possible the storytelling was there subtly and I needed to read/listen further for it to click. I may check it and thanks for the clarification.

Hmm Samatoki of all people? That's an interesting insight especially given that his sister whom he seems to have a lot of respect for is a big shot in the ruling party. (spoilers in white for others who might be reading)

@auron_

oh, don't worry, that makes sense ^^

yeah, samatoki and ichiro expressed their anti-government sentiment pretty clearly in the "know your enemy side b.b vs m.t.c" drama track.

here's some evidence on the ideals that t.d.d. was founded on, taken from the t.d.d. manga:

as for the thing you mentioned,

there's a lot more relevant to the plot than what i just mentioned, but i'm trying to keep spoilers to a minimum, haha.

As a fan of the whole franchise since it debuted i gotta say, just seeing all of them moving was an awesome experience for me....

As expected for the first episode, there no much we can take from there, they just introduce to everyone a little bit of the characters and their interactions on their own division. The animation was better than i expected and the CGI is well done, i love they keep the lyrics on the OP and rap battle, after all thats how they attack and hurt their opponents.

I am intrigue to know if they are gonna take the story we know or they are gonna make something different?? both of them seems fine for me, just seeing my sensei moving and talking w Hifumin and Doppop is enought for my heart~~

The phone is his microphone. All of their microphones are customized to fit their image, or basically just to fit the character in general. Doppo's flip phone microphone represents his state of being a salary man worker!

This was so dope. I loved the different divisions, they were so colorful. The raps were really good, and even though I think they used CG character models for it, I didn’t mind. It was very cool. There were some funny moments, like those two guys who lit each other’s cigarettes like 👉🏼👈🏼(wtf haha). I have a feeling this show won’t emphasize the plot too much. However if it manages to give consistent raps like this, as well as colorful artstyle, I won’t mind. It has somewhat of a basis in terms of story but is a little all over the place. If they pull something cool off with the plot and rapping, it would be amazing. Looking forward to episode 2.

SAME SAME SAME. I was so sceptic about this. I was worried it's going to have cheap animation and that story telling is going to suck. While I'm still kinda worried how the story will proceed it just 13 episodes (or only 12 now) I'm totally HYPED from the 1st episode since it was totally amazing - animation, songs, and the whole introduction to the world. I think the introduction was decent but as you said - I can't tell how people who don't know anything about HypMic felt about it.

And last but not least... THE BOYS ARE MOVING. And my boy Samatoki is CUTER THAN EVER.

I'm so hyped that I already know that even if they fck it up, in the end I'm gonna love this anime. Because boys move.

This episode was everything that I could ever dream of. When the anime was first annouced I was really sceptical, since we all know how these types of adaptations often end up. Even when visuals, trailers and the preview were realeased I was still cautious with my enthusiasm to not get disappoited. But this? This didn't disappoint me in any way.

The opening was a great mix between their normal rap and an anime-ish music. The animation was really good, waaaay beyond what I was expecting from it. The CGI was not only really well done and impressive, it also fitted well with everything else. The story for the episode was, in my opinion, a good choice, since it introduced all the divisions and each character pretty well, displaying their relatioships with each other, as well as their own quirks. (Although this is coming from a fan of the series, so I don't know how well it introduces the characters and the world to someone who had no prior experience with the series). All the rap done in this episode were completely new, and they didn't disappoint, showcasing the style of each division pretty well. Even the background music was really good. And lastly, the ending, which, again, had a completely new song, even though I was expecting them to just use thei old ones, was superb.

Overall, this was the best first episode I have ever seen, and it made me really hyped for the rest of the series. I'm hoping they will keep up this quality until the very end.

(And now a bit of fangirling)
It's so amazing to finally see my boys move, they're all fantastic and I love them all so much! Especially Fling Posse with Ramuda! They're so cute! Best division!

Okay, okay. So I'm not an avid fan of Hypnosis Mic (I'm not very into rap), but I do play the rhythm game so I have a slight idea of things here.

This was...something. I mean, I expected a dive into story right away (which the episode kinda did a little bit), but hey, introductions are cool! Pretty good idea since some of the audience watching the show will have zero clue what they're getting into, although to be fair...not so newcomer friendly despite this because there was barely any plot in this episode lol.
One compliment I definitely have is that for the most part, the characters definitely stand out and have neat personalities. Not to mention the character designs are pretty wild too, but not too over the top, which makes many of the characters very recognizable from a visual scale, which is honestly a very good thing considering the amount of divisions represented here. My favorite divisions so far are definitely Fling Posse as it has been since I've played the game, and I enjoyed their interactions here compared to some of the others here, and they have lots of chemistry together. Same with the other group that stood out, Matenro, which has a very interesting group of characters, and even though my personally favorite group is Fling Posse, these guys in my opinion have the best chemistry together. The introductions of Mad Trigger Crew and Buster Bros was nice, but some of their interactions felt a bit awkward, especially when it came to Mad Trigger Crew for me. But hey, maybe they'll make things a little less weird in the dialogue department here. It's only episode 1 after all!

Speaking of dialogue, let's talk about how each division spit bars. In a less awkward way, I'm talking about the music.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of rap. I'm more of a metal/rock gal, so this isn't something up my alley. However, I can safely say that it's pretty damn good. Some tracks are better than others, and I'm not sure if they're pre-existing tracks from each group (which you can listen to on Spotify and Apple Music along with drama CD tracks!!), but I wouldn't call a single one inherently bad. If you came for good music, you're gonna get it. Mad Trigger Crew and Fling Posse definitely had the best music in the episode...although...

Lemme get to the point here. The animation is good...but I'm not gonna apologize for saying this. You literally CANNOT take these serious 'rap battle' scenes seriously. I mean with Fling Posse I could at least invest myself in it due to the tame nature of it all? But like...OH MY GOD ITS LITERALLY HILARIOUS. The CG during these scenes is actually pretty good and expressive, however it's how wacky the battles are that make this literally one of the greatest so-bad it's good moments I have ever. That fact that I takes itself so serious too sent me. Like the Buster Bros literally destroyed 30 something people because the hypnosis mic created these speaker things and like?? WhAT??? It's so wacky you'd think someone was like, high making this but nope lol. Mad Trigger Crew makes another set of speakers as they're about to have a EPIC showdown to throw down these drug dealers (also how did this show get away with so many f bombs. idk how they did it but mad trigger crew you absolute madlads), the speaker looks pretty epic and then as they rap like??? BULLETS??? SKULL HANDS??? MISSILES???? Word cannot describe this alone, watching it will give the most elite experience.

Overall, I don't know what I just watched...but it was funny. Hopefully there will be actual plot next episode, and that the wacky rap scenes keep coming, because it's such a beautiful mess.

I was so skeptical, I really thought it was going to be awful, but the animation is pretty strong and that was a really fun first episode!! Seeing them move after years of still illustrations though was great in itself. How seriously Hypmic tries to play its silly plot might be hard for some people to get over, but personally for me that's where the fun and the charm come from.

Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? The animation is expressive as hell.

The CGI is awful though and breaks immersion.

The otherwise excellent everything else makes up visually though.

It is more like... Pop Battles Brothers™ Death Battle Royale.

Instead of "Rap Battles". They are more like competing boy bands ridding the world of criminals and terrorists. As if Batman fought using purely words. Danced a bit, then swooped into another freeze frame.

That's this show in a nutshell.
