Good production wasted on a lame story with bland poorly excuses for characters. After the 17 episodes so far it just feels like the author is speedrunning a battle shounen to get as much action and edge as possible, and somehow it worked.

If the author doesn't care about the characters how am I supposed to. Only a few are decent and even then they get too many bad scenes with weak dialogue.

Wasted potential is what this is imo. Hope CSM will deliver.

I enjoyed watching the ladies duke it out but I also want to see what Inumaki is capable of since the other team seems so weary of him. So I am hoping to see at least some of him in action since we got to see Maki and Panda kick some ass.

Okay thanks I misunderstood how things in-universe worked then. I assumed they can only do the things they do because of cursed energy.

Guessing the main character and Toudou could pull that off then .

the animation was insane. as well as the sound work.

only complaint (minor) is that the backstories should have been pushed earlier (for example mai gets the backstory when she was at the tree not when she was hit)

but its pretty minor,10/10 episode.

Animation in this episode was really beautiful, I had to repeat so many scenes to appreciate the aesthetics.

Nobara VS Momo fight was the best. And that ost as usual it was amazing.

Got to know more about the Zenin twins. Mai is really hot with kinda annoying personality XD

Who is that new character? Won't be surprised if she turned out to be Satoru's mom or sister XD

yuji probably can't cause he doesn't have a heavenly pact he just has ridiculous speed and strength for an average person, but then again, we don't know anything about him. His past is a mystery, and im sure we'll find out more about him in the future. There are theories that he might even be the descendent of sukuna what with what he's capable of

Toudou also can't cause his strength and speed is weaker than yuji. He doesn't have a heavenly pact, so his strength and speed are that of an average person who's trained and gotten strong. Unlike yuji whose mysterious past may have contributed to him being abnormally strong, toudou is just an ordinary person.

Poor Mai. I can sympathize her complex against Maki. They should be good sisters.
I don’t get it. Maki did nothing wrong. It’s her life. She’s free to do whatever she wants. Mai is free to live as a lowly maid if she wants. She’s just clingy and wants to drag her sister down with her. She needs to learn to be independent. Maki has her own life. Maki’s purpose is not to hold Mai’s hand for her whole. And besides, doesn’t Mai still have her mom? What about her dad? It’s not like Maki was the only family member Mai had, right?

It's very refreshing seeing how this series portrays its female characters. Most Shounen battle anime use their female characters just to look cute and for fanservice like My Hero Academia, Fairy Tail, and Seven Deadly Sins, but here in JJK they're actually interesting, well-written, badass, and not overly sexualized. I especially loved Nobara's rant towards Momo saying that she doesn't give a shit about gender roles which is definitely something that I can get behind. The only downside to this is that a lot of chuds will probably get triggered and call this "SJW propaganda" like they always do.

Not only that, but good god the animation was absolutely stunning! Probably the best animation that MAPPA has made so far

I think that people who admire such basic messages are worth people who think that "a woman is also a human" is SJW propaganda, lol.

Well this is certainly an intense ep, there were 3 fights happening and ending all in one, starting with a classic bladed battle between Miwa and Maki. Maki is an absolute powerhouse in this ep, her wildly erratic movement and her mastery over at least several types of weapons from a katana, to kunai and spears. Couple that with her quick-witted battle perception and you got yourself one hell of a fighter. Miwa doesn't really stand a chance considering how her ability requires her to literally standstill, something Maki completely use to her advantage. Though I personally am fond of the combination of her shadow cloaked katana-wielding cute girl such as Miwa is.

The loli witch and her underestimation of Nobara's ability only brought her downfall, literally. If it was not for Mai interfering with Nobara's last strike, she would've been outta the fight. Well, no matter, Maki eventually returned the favour by annihilating her imouto's desperate struggle. Seems like the Zenin sisters got a problem with how overly attached and inferior Main is compared to the brutish and significantly uncaring onee san. Yare yare, to be frank, grow up. I know I still don't know the full extent of their background and how much 'suffering Mai has gone through to be forced into becoming a sorceress, but damn. Sort yourself out you arrogant-inferiority complex-ridden imouto.

I felt slightly bad for Mai but acting like Maki left her behind when she could (seemingly) have left too is a tad silly, it's more of a mutual abandonment from the way I see it. Mawi losing her sword was also tragic, poor girl.

And a squeaky hammer? good shit. Great fights all around.

12 people gave 1/5's to this episode. Please just be some bots or just be trolling or something.

Now I can't take screenshots because I'm watching this on crunchyroll, but what I did want to show was Miwa's hairflip in the water once she gets tossed into the river. It was brief, like literally a split second, but beautiful. Even in these small brief moments they're delivering exceptional quality in animation. I love how maki just picks up miwa's blade to use it for her sister's fight. Her staff is broken after all. Wonder if she's going to keep it or give it back, although it does seem she likes it she's probably gonna keep it lol.

Yeah I'm just gonna say that even though we've got a lot of explosive action so far, this episode hands down has the best fights imo. Just the way they unfold, are executed, and are paced. The use of abilities was super cool and the sound design on top of that just made these fights top notch. These were all pretty one sided, with maki taking down two. Maybe I just like to see one side get destroyed lol, no back and forth at all; maybe just the bullet at the end there that was realllllly close to maki's forehead.

Edit: Also forgot to mention the rubber hammer that came out of nowhere! Was wondering how she was going to survive a bullet to the head but then it's revealed that mai returned the rubber hammer professional courtesy with a rubber bullet. Loved how she uses one of her nails in a tree to reach momo and then stick her voodoo doll into a single broom bristle. Freaking cool bro. Now I love me some ecchi but at times it just gets too much ya feel me? I kind of adore the complete lack of fanservice so far. I don't need that shit- just give me some damn good balls to the wall action. And the stuff they are saying in between clashes isn't just empty words either, I like how momo's whining about how girls are basically oppressed and held to high standards and then nobara just shuts her up and says that she doesn't care. Can be interpreted in different ways but it's anti-sjw if you ask me

The animation is on point. Loved it. But damn, this episode made me hate Momo and love Nobara even more. Just kill Momo, I would be happy. She's a shit character with shit looks and a shit mindset. Talking about looking cute while I can't even look at her face. And her logic is straight up garbage. Also talking about how Mai is a great human-being that no one understands while not even thinking about what other characters had to endure. Nobara said everything I had on my mind. Defending Mai so much with dumb arguments while you just agreed to kill Yuuji without giving it a second thought and he's by far the one who endured the most, at least up until this point.

Same with Mai, her reason for hating Maki sounds to more like an excuse to me so you can hate her because of stuff in the past that doesn't make any sense and tbh her character isn't helping much, always talking like she's superior to everyone. Though there are also nice characters from the sister school, like Mechamaru. I like him more after his fight with the panda, thanks to the ending. Kasumi is also nice and I like her mainly for the reason that she doesn't want to straight up kill Yuuji, though sadly there isn't much backstory to her, at least for now.

Finally we can see some level of writing again, and the OST actually tries to do its job (give emotions to the viewers). However, if you analyze the script by itself, this would definitely be a good start for a subplot, but this was treated as the entire thing. You can't really feel anything for the short haired girl because all this did was get the attention of the viewer to this subplot.

Man there's a lot of work this author needs to do. Stop overcomplicated your power system, stop trying to include fights without any stakes and try to actually make the audience be emotionally attached to your characters.

Good written products usually gives standards to anyone who wants to appreciate deeply about that. Sangatsu no Lion is probably the show that most made me realize the power of good writing. Also, watching analysis of people who understand about writing has set more standards for me. Filmento is definitely one of the people most influenced me in that aspect.

So you're someone with high standards ? Then why do you have AOT in your favorites? Despite the fact that the plot is well constructed and all it's filled with plot armors/conveniences, I'm not saying it's not great but someone with outstanding standards like you should hate plot armor/convenience since it's one of the worst aspect in writing.

It's good to state that I never said high. I said at least some screenwriting standard. Hell, I put Fairy Tail as a 7/10, I definitely don't consider to have high standards. But even that show made me engaged in scenes like the one I was discussing.

SNK writing isn't flawless but masterpiece doesn't mean perfect. Pretty much all the flaws from the writing was from minor details that are not core to the heart of the scene, which is why it doesn't affect as much.

Seems like most of the audience have some standards then since JJK is ranked way higher than one of the worst shonen which is Fairy tale. You not enjoying JJK could just means the story and characters just don't suit your tastes and have nothing to do with the overall writing because it's legit an above average battle shonen

And I don't think the survival of characters through plot armor is a minor detail in AOT's writing since these characters have more or less a huge impact on the plot but whatever

Probably my favourite episode yet. I do have some issues with the animation tbh. The CGI background during the Momo/Nobara fight was so obviously disconnected from the character art that it just looked awful. Needed so many prolong shots with it was distracting but aside from that I enjoyed the fight, namely the squeaky hammer bit.

The Maki/Mai stuff is what really sells it. Momo's explanation of why Mai was such a bitch didn't work on me either, I'm totally of Nobara's mindset there, but getting a more sympathetic view-point on Mai in her fight was effective. The colour composition on the final sisters holding hand flashback was downright beautiful, and I really liked the repeated refrains of "You liar" and "I hate you" when the final flashback makes it clear that Mai's the liar (which is clear from the earlier Miwa/Maki fight), and it's also clear she loves Maki, though I'm not sure she even processes that. But Mai's clearly more upset about Maki leaving her than the effort she had to go through afterwards. It doesn't seem she was forced to become a Jujutsu sorcerer, just that she felt forced to after Maki but with the whole last flashback being about them staying together, it reads more like Mai did it to remain with Maki, despite the bitterness of Maki wanting more from her life (which I certainly don't blame).

I don't think any fight here was better constructed than Panda vs. Mechamaru, but the episode as a whole had a lot more going for it I feel. I even like how Nobara was taken out by Mai, who was then taken out by Maki after Maki earlier defeated Miwa. The fights themselves are still one-on-one but having this level of connectivity at least maintains a sense of battle royal-ness that an even like this is suppose to have.

Or maybe the standards of battle shounen fans have are what I've mentioned earlier: animation. Which also helps explaining KNY rating and sucess on Japan as well. Every enjoyement in any media is about taste. People love stuff like Fast and Furious and Transformers, but that doesn't necesseraly mean they're good written. JJK is pretty much on the same category as those movies. They're fun if you enjoy crazy stuff happening on the screen, but that's about it.

And plot armor is something present in pretty much every story that involves stakes, specially on the main cast. The question is about how was that handled and why was it used. Armin surving on S3P2 is the only time where it heavily needed suspesion of disbelief but that was used to create conflict in one of the best written episodes of 2019: Midnight Sun. If JJK at least tried to compensate its mistakes with something interesting or maybe got more grounded like on Junpei's character deleopment episodes, I could enjoy the series more. Those were definitely the best episodes of the series so far.
