Den Of Geek cited: "Netflix’s take on the pivotal Ghost in the Shell anime series has a lot of good ideas, but it struggles when it comes to their execution. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 far from perfect, but it’s still better than the past series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise and the live-action film. This doesn’t tarnish Ghost in the Shell’s legacy and the questions that it poses feel very authentic to this universe. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 may not turn those that are complete strangers to the franchise into devoted fans, but it’s a considerate extension that weaves an addictive mystery if you can get past certain hang-ups. SAC_2045 goes out on a major cliffhanger that raises more questions than answers and the post-human epidemic remains in full swing. Thankfully, a second 12-episode season is already on the way and hopefully those installments will iron out the series’ rougher edges and finish off this story in a way that is worthy of the Ghost in the Shell name."

AV Club cited: "As underwhelming as the animation may be, Kamiyama at the very least seems to be enjoying himself in his return to Ghost In The Shell. The original Stand Alone Complex series was as ambitious as it was consistent in its storytelling, tackling everything from crowdsourced criminal conspiracies, refugee crises, and the perils of an aging populace. SAC_2045 casts a wide net to shallower effect, touching on everything from systemic wealth disparity, a gallingly simplistic critique of the military-industrial complex, and ham-fisted literary allusions to 1984 that feel derivative of Kamiyama’s previous work on Stand Alone Complex, all crammed into the claustrophobic space of a 12-episode season."

So what should we discuss here? Corruption in journalism?
We can't do that either, just assume.

It clearly says the Arise series, which came out in 2013.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read and understand "the past series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise and the live-action film" as 3 different entities

The phrasing is weird, considering that Arise is also a past series.

The phrasing looks normal to me

Keep in mind that not everyone is an English native speaker here, if articles or people start using ambiguous phrasing it's gonna be hella confusing

What about the elephant in the room? The bad use of cg and horrible character design? Anime is a visual medium, you have to look at it to understand it.
Well, they got their paycheck and sayonara, fvcking sellouts

I'm probably going to watch it cause I'm massive Ghost in The Shells fan, but I seriously doubt it's going to be better than past series.

Super disappointed based on what I have read/seen so far. I am not a 3D anime fan for the most part, and really wish they used traditional animation for this. Both GITS 1995 and SAC look incredible because of the great traditional animation, what is this obsession with video game graphics for anime these days.

The CG isn't great, but I never watched the GITS franchise for the looks, Arise was the worst of the bunch despite how up to date it's visuals were. As long as it's better than Arise when it comes to plot and story, I'll be happy enough. Y'all care way too much about visuals, as if visuals alone are what made the original Standalone Complex series great.

"The visual aesthetic for SAC_2045 is likely going to be a major sticking point for many audiences. The series’ polished CG look will either work for people or it won’t, but it at least feels somewhat justified in a series that’s full of synthetic humans and individuals that should embody some aspects of the Uncanny Valley. That being said, it’s hard to not think of the cutscenes from out of a PSP game during the show. This isn’t the first time that Ghost in the Shell has embraced the CG look and even though it doesn’t look terrible and is able to accentuate the kinetic action, there’s still no denying that the series’ original traditionally animated approach looks so much better. It almost feels like a cruel joke when the anime’s ending theme does utilize hand-drawn animation. "

I'm guessing it was a typo and a comma should've been after Arise (or maybe it's referring to the Alternative Architecture recap series) but I'm not positive. It looks like there's another typo in the same sentence so who knows. They might need a better editor lol

I hated Arise and the live action movie. 3DCG isn't all that bad when from the 2 episodes I watch so far. Ghost in the Shell SAC is what got me into Anime and seeing this group of people come back is what I always wanted. Now the English cast hasn't completed the dubbing yet due to the Corona Virus. From the credits it's the same ones from the first SAC.

I like the designs , the production quality is really high. One of the best full CGI anime. They do a lot that you cant do in 2D, not well anyway.

Unsurprisingly a lot of fags wont be able to get used to new style etc, but its a pretty cool and distinct style.

I went into this thinking "Hey, a Ghost in the Shell series from Kenji Kamiyama. This is gonna be awesome."
And awesome it was.
