If Woodworth can still be around, than we can't Beatrice. So maybe next episode she will show up, and make things right.

Diana was such a sweet child.
I guess if I had to put up with Akko's antics I'd eventually strangle her.
Also, are hooligans just a running gag or will this be important later on?

The show doesn't really know what to focus on at this point. But this is basically a slice of life show anyway with some plot sprinkled throughout.
Still enjoying though.

so obviously Akko is the modern magician eh since Diana is revealed to be the traditional magician

That sounds just about right! Together both Akko and Diana would unravel the last word that even Chariot failed to do so!!

when Akko fits into Diana's (eleventh[!]) birthday dress SO WELL, it just goes to show how they were once, one and the same (presumably when Diana was eleven years old.

I think that is suppose to be a joke on how much more physical developed Diana is than Akko. Speaking of which if Akko can fit into 11 year old Diana's dress, what does that compare with Amanda. What clothing can present day Akko fit when it comes into Amanda, 8 year old Amanda, 9 year old Amanda?

I am aware, that it was a joke. I just really like reading between the lines. You'll never know whether or not the chicken crossing the road might be a lot deeper than you think. But then again, it is a chicken crossing a road, BUT can it kill BEES!!!

I've made my point.

BTW I am betting Croax is behind those soccer riots, though in real life do we need magic tubes to get European soccer fans to riot. It will be funny gag at the end, if it is revealed Croax had nothing to do with the soccer riots.

So how is this going to get resolved, how will get Diana back to Luna Nova and save the Cavendish family. Maybe Aunt Daryl will have a face turn, maybe Diana's mother ghost will comeback and scare her into being good. That would be great or we can at least trick into thinking Diana's mother ghost is haunting her.

So great episode and can't wait to see what happens in episode 20.

About that Riot, well same in here i'm pretty sure Croax are behind that mess and also that event are in one of the Akko Vision in the previous episode 11, maybe this picture will remind you.

Akko's shenanigans were quite entertaining. I just wish she had been a little more grateful that Diana stood up for her and let her stay. Well, at least she immediately showed sympathy for her when she learned from Anna that Diana lost her parents.

While Diana has known more than Akko expected (we have already witnessed her discoveries earlier in the series), she still hasn't realized that Akko would never be able to unlock all of the seven words alone, even if she had amazing magic skills (though that wouldn't hurt either). Nor has she realized the true meaning of the words that her mother spoke in that flashback. That the world needs her and Akko to work together.

"Madam Daryl has snakes up her skirt and her eyes glow in the dark... Can she really be that bad?"

Well, it turned out she's merely pragmatic, but she really should have used the family assets to invest in something, instead of just selling off everything for cash. That's not exactly a sustainable model.

Interesting! I'd like to add how compares to some Shounen Jump narratives like the somewhat older Naruto, and Boku no Hero Academia from recent years. Mother's Basement covered this recently, but to sum it up: both Naruto and Deku (the protagonist of BnHA) aim to ultimately make life better for everyone, they just go about it from opposite directions. Naruto learns that teamwork is the only thing that leads to "progress", and this is what he teaches all of his opponents, while Deku wants to be the best hero to inspire everyone else to be better as well, basically pulling everyone else up to his level. Akko is essentially a force with a very similar goal, but she inspires people with her outsider perspective, instead of by being number one, as you put it.

LOL Akko was sandwiched by the family problems of Dianne! and even sandwiched by Hanbridge Son & Father.
I wonder how Akko would solve this problem... seems like a complicated one tbh...
I feel like after this arc would be resolve and finished, Akko & Diane would be more closer to each other!
4/5.

Should have known the Diane episode would be coming soon. I wonder if her and Akko will just be friends, when all this is said and done. Diane's plot and her evil aunt were kind of broad to me. But I liked all of her moments with Akko in this episode. Both their strained goodbye and Akko coming to understand Diane a little bit more. All I could think when Diane sprung to Akko's defense, was JK Rowling declaring Malfoy would never have any kind of redemption arc. I'm glad they went the route they did though. To the extent Diane is sometimes the most likable/reasonable character. Having her be a one note villain would have gotten stale fast.

Not much else to say about this episode. A little unexpected but by no means surprising that Diane's an orphan. Assuming this arc will help Akko unlock the appreciating the past word (unless she already did, who remembers?). A little curious to see what the conclusion of this story will be. We're near enough the end of the series it wouldn't be too surprising if Diane really did bow out here. I doubt it though.

It's not disdain Diana, just calling out BS when she sees it. This is where Diana misunderstands Akko the most. The only times Akko is shown being against tradition is when it's outright stupid and promoting the pecking order (Saimhain festival), or hindering from finding a better solution (the Faeries' strike). Akko doesn't hate tradition, she hates when others are obsessively following tradition to the point of lunacy. Magic is dying because most witches are too caught up in following tradition that they have effectively fallen behind and isolated themselves from the rest of the world. That's why it's important that Akko is the definitive "outsider". She doesn't have the natural talent of being a witch, but brings that outsider's perspective that's needed to bring change to a stagnant climate.

I like what they've done with Akko. This would have been like every underdog story ever if the series focused on Akko improving her magic to the point she reached Diana's level, with a final confrontation. Akko's character has a different role, touching other lives and inspire change in them, which will inspire change in the world. The earliest example is Andrew and developed a friendship with him over their few encounters. Her roommates became her close friends that believe in her during the Saimhain festival. Akko knows that accomplishment couldn't have been done by herself, and it's been ingrained in her, even showing that to Constanze in episode 18.

The series tackles the theme of one person being able to accomplish great things, and shreds it. The golden era of magic wasn't brought about by one witch, but nine of them. And everyone that is shouldering things on their own are either unhappy or villainous. Chariot has ended up in hiding; Croix machinations are only going to mess up things. And Diana, Luna Nova had such high hopes for her that she would be the one to save the magic crisis and the school, showering her with all their expectations and special privileges, and regarding her as the "star" of the Luna Nova, only for their precious model student to have to leave due to extenuating circumstances. Akko's going to bring her about, but still, the risk was there that the teachers would lose Diana, and to them, the chance to save the school and magic, because they put all their lot on just one student.

I think that's Diana's way of telling Akko that she shouldn't get involved into matters that she has no idea how to solve, as well as that her way of thinking won't always work.

Honestly, I think Diana is probably the perfect foil for Akko for a good reason: They're both on the opposite ends of the spectrum on what a witch is, and they can learn off of each other, with Diana learning that traditions aren't always good to follow, and Akko learning that not everyone can be free to do as they please.

It also helps with Akko learning about the fifth word, which is about tradition and history. I think that Akko has to learn that just because she doesn't want it, it doesn't mean that the world will bend to her will and that sometimes, you just need to be the support pillar, and Diana will help her learn that.

The fifth word is what Diana's mom said in the beginning about traditional(Diana) and modern(Akko) powers working together to create a future unseen.

The shows going for a message of being true to oneself. Akko's never going to stop "butting in" or helping others to get out their comfort zone. That's her role.

Diana's life is far from easy! I hope everything will be fine and Diana will become the next head of house Cavendish. At this point, even silly Akko should have noticed Diana's problems, so I hope Akko will help Diana.
Diana's aunt and cousins are such bitches. They have turned the Cavendish legacy into a pawn shop. >:(
Speaking of pawn shops, if Diana's aunt wanted to make some money, she should have tried to sell the family treasures to Chumlee instead of Andrew's dad. lol

We are nearing the end and the main plot finally kicked in, this was really good episode, even if only the prelude to what happens next.

Akko and Diana need to join forces, the same as Chariot and Croix unsuccessfully did before, but now it seems Akko would be able to revive another word in this arc.

I like how the friendship is the main theme most of the time in this series. Next episode gotta be interesting.

Kindness being a virtue of the Cavendish family seems to be something that was lost over time, especially with bitchy Aunt Daryl (who's probably just mad she has a guy's name and looks like she's had at least three botched plastic surgeries).

Akko had some funny moments this episode (the initial hitchhiking rejection, her internal angst about fitting into Diana's dress from her eleventh birthday) but the real shine came from Diana confronting her terrible aunt at the end. She's certainly become a more likable character.

The entire Cavendish family must go to the same hair stylist lmao. But okay looks like Diana is a fan of Chariot. There were quite a few subtle clues leading up to this so it's nice for it to be confirmed. It helps paint the picture of what she is really like. I'd hope that at this point anyone who still believed she was just the arrogant spoiled kid who needs to be humbled would realize their mistake.

Diana has a prized Chariot card?! 😭

I understand that time is of the essence for this family meeting, but I also can't help but to think that ever since Diana connected the dots of Akko to the Shiny Rod that her dream of changing the world the way she and her mother had dreamed died with that realization.

To me, it feels like her leaving is two-fold. One, what's the point when you've lived your life holding on to that one dream of changing the world that your mother encouraged you to do? Two, the family is obviously in trouble.

It's only just now hitting me just how alike Akko and Diana really are on a fundamental level regarding their dreams. I hope Diana loses composure for once and spills to Akko about her dream, tbh.

Quite the lavapit Akko jumped head-on too, when it comes to going to meet Diana and learn about the troubling situation present with the Cavendish family and the rights to power essentially. She knows nothing about personal space and privacy but at least it seems that Diana at least got someone by her side through all of this, even if she didn't want that in the first place.

Also Diana with the Chariot card treasured secretly, so she's a big fan like Akko which is nice to see. Can't wait to see more of Diana's backstory that relates to her love for Chariot which she essentially hides now.

We've learned more about Diana in this episode, including the fact that she's a Chariot fan, and even owns that elusive card that Akko could never find! Akko doesn't know that, though.

Diana's aunt is definitely a bad person, so even though Akko wants to bring her back to Luna Nova, part of her must also want Diana to stop her aunt as well, but can Diana do both?
