I swear, not enough salt today... First Reigen and now the Salt Meme in here...

Either way, Rimuru's slime becoming the "censors" for Milim was quite funny.

So many references in this episode, just wow! Houseki no Kuni reference was probably the best one of them all!!

Nice to see there actually a few Otherworlders in this world, Yuuki seems like a nice guy and quite strong too. That manga/novel talk was superb though! So Rimuru is going to be a teacher and those kids seemed rather lively!

Even bigger chucks of the story are left out.

I think they don't really believe this would get a second (technically, third) season...

I mean you say that, but they made somewhere close to 3.2+ billion yen off of the series for the entirety of 2018. (The first volume of the anime also sold somewhere close to almost 6k units in its first week. It is selling well enough where a second season is essentially guaranteed, but they would have to wait for the manga to get far enough ahead.) The reason why they skipped so much is because the production committee wanted them to reach the Volume 4 cliffhanger in two cours. They actually wanted even more than that, but Fuse and the production studio managed to convince the Production committee to allow them to go to the volume 4 cliffhanger in order to allow the anime to not have a rushed plot. The narrative has been slightly shuffled from both the manga and the Light Novel, and things that were cut out, were cut out in their entirety such that they can be added together for a side story season, added into an ova, or shuffled into a different place in the narrative/plot (not as a flashback though) in a potential season 2

Slime was third place in January among anime/manga/LN franchises for media sales in Japan:

But sure let's just abandon the anime version of the one series which already shows tremendous success among non-anime media (manga/LN), but also seems to be completely killing it when it comes to merch making a great cross-platform success...

Hmm thats a novel way of polishing your swords skills while also giving the town some fresh meat. The aftermath of the battle sure provided the town with quite the harvest of materials. Gabiru and the ork lord's praises for each other sure was amusing. Damm Milim's cute level sure is overwhelming. Shizu's past memory sure was a sad one. The tech level of the kingdom sure was impressive though. Compared to the others this one looks more like modern day Japan than anything. Though the meeting with the GM started badly it was nice that in the end things turned out well. It was hillarious seeing the two talk about books and games. The insight into summons and otherworlders sure was insightful. Looks like these kids will be tough to handle. Curious to see how Rimuru can save these kids though.

Rirumu embarks on his new journey to fulfill Shizu's last will, I miss the beautiful Shizu.
What a way to celebrate the victory, eating megalodon and Rirumu bathing in the hot springs surrounded by beautiful young ladies and the spectacular Shion. (Rirumu is good at censoring Millim's innocent body, don't lewd her)
Millim also leaves Tempest, how sad, I am going to miss the little disaster, I will always remember her for her childish personality, I also loved the way she left, like Supergirl, I mean Super Millim, in short, she retires to report with her fellow demon kings and also tell them not to dare to do something to her best friend Rirumu. I laughed too much when Rirumu and the girls asked Millim not to be fooled, poor thing just because she is a bit clueless and very innocent and pure.
The dream or memory that Rirumu had moved me, because the little Slime released a couple of tears, he must miss Shizu very much.
Rirumu says goodbye to his loyal companions and friends and goes to Ingrassia, where he meets Yuuki Kagurazaka who was apprenticed of Shizu, the meeting with Rirumu had a violent start, but thanks to the otaku wisdom of Rirumu and the same words that Yuuki taught Shizu, he made Yuuki earn his trust and appreciation, also that the good Slime was very kind in "Print" all the mangas he had read thanks to Great Sage, besides seeing the cover of TenSura's manga made me laugh a lot.
Yuuki talks to Rirumu about Hinata Sakagushi, the other apprentice of Shizu and apparently she is someone very strong because she was "Invoked" to this world to fulfill her role as protector, also comments the cruel fate of the 5 boys who are the former students of Shizu and now they will be the students of Rirumu.
I must admit that the first impression I had of the Shizu´s students was a group of unruly and very violent children, which I'm sure they will give the poor Slime a lot of trouble.

I think @jaw201 is right ,
I wouldn't notice it either if I was an anime only .
expositions wise , this ep is pretty good . also I really like and hate how rimuru traveling all alone like that...
I mean I know there's ranga and all but... it's so lonely seeing rimuru traveling by himself like that .
on the other side however , Idk about you but I think it's really good to build up the tension for the last ep

The next episode will catch up to the last translated manga chapter, no idea how the season will end now.
Btw the Veldora pulse at the end gave me even more ideas in regards to the huge plot twist in the next episode

Milim left without Dragon Knuckles (unless they'll later explain that she got those off-screen at some point).
Rimuru went alone and directly to Ingraccia instead of going with the 3 adventurers to Blumund first. So he never learned Demon Summoning from the examiner for the adventurer test.
Well, the map showed that he passed through Blumund so they can still show that part in a future OVA what Rimuru might have done when he "stopped by". Alternatively Rimuru can learn Demon Summoning from the Freedom Guild HQ since its a spell neccessary for examiners of B-rank subjugation-adventurer exams.

Thank you for answering in my place you said everything, also Rimuru didnt get ID from Fuse he used his adventurer ID(because Blumund Gulid is part Freedom Ass. that Yuuki is Guildmaster) and in manga,LN, and WN kids were between 7 and 9 years old(Gale 9,Alice 7 and the rest were 8 year olds),and Rimuru didnt even give Milim Knuckels in Anime......

let's hope they will explain it later in the ova ep while waiting for 2nd seasonπŸ˜‚
or myb they'll use veldora slime observation journal in ep 25 to explain these skipped stuff? so myb we don't have to wait that long for ova ep , who knows

They are leaving out parts that makes sense in overall story, like all the diplomacy and such, which have a point which is basically about kingdom / town building.

I do know they usually do advertisement, but even after years experiencing the same thing in many different anime I still fail to understand why they do it, and why would anyone want to re-read the LN to fill out the blanks.

At least this skip is not noticeable, if I didn't read the manga, I wouldn't know something is supposed to be in there, I've seen worse execution, but still ....

Well... the source is /a/, so I don't think I can help you out much. I wish it wasn't in image form either because I can't google translate the titles.

But sometimes ANN bothers translating this kind of stuff as well, but I always only stumble upon it by coincidence there, so I have no idea how I found it and where I have to look for it, not even the words for the searchbar.

AFAIK, it was a disagreement between the anime production committee (the ones putting money into the project) one hand, and the anime staff and the author on the other. Appearently the committee wanted a standard kind of adaptation with 6 LN volumes in 2 cours (4 episodes per LN volume), while the anime staff and the author wanted to make a super faithfull adaptation of only 2 LN volumes in 2 cours (12 episodes per LN volume) - and then as a compromise they came to an agreement for 4 LN volumes, but based on the weird pacing of the anime I can only imagine that they were probably already producing stuff when they were still discussing how far to adaptate - and now we see the result.
Considering Diablo got an entire side-story episode dedicated to him (alongside Shizu in EP24), I got the impression that the committee really wanted to sell some Diablo merch and only accepted the compromise after the side-story episode was settled to be included.

I have to admit slime is genuinely fun to watch. I usually find fantasy shows hyped by mal very mediocre, but this just feels right.

Ofcourse Shizu was the only worthwhile character and they wasted her, but whatever

Well, the extra bath Onsen scenes were included in the anime. But I mean, if the skip isn't noticeable then there should be no reason to complain right? Because that means that they can still reshuffle events such that they either happen after certain other events. By completely cutting it out they are leaving the door open to reshuffle the material back in. Either as a side story season or as a series of OVAs. I mean, I honestly thought nothing important that couldn't have been added back into a potential season two was lost. So I guess that's my two cents.
I prefer studios cutting out content like this, if they need to rush it, because then they can still add it back in in order to follow the same general story from the source material. With the added benefit of having the audience not be in the dark with what is going on in the story.

modern anime was a mistake i dont know how to feel about memes making it into them but at least it shows the staff is having fun so there's that.

episode had quite a bit of plot progression for the title of grandmaster he sure looked like a pretty causal MC-kun of like any LN though just his kick had quite the bang so i don't doubt his strength.

One could argue that the way they chose to censor Milim in the beginning might actually make it more lewd depending on how one looks at it. XDD

Anyway, I wasn't expecting the story to head in this direction.

Rimuru meeting Yuuki was awesome and I loved their conversation with all the references, we need more of that stuff. xD

This episode was okay enough (a reasonable change of pace and a nice reconnection to one of this show's two good characters in Shizu), but Rimuru's been in that world for two years? The show has not really done a lot to make the passage of time clear, so I'd assumed it had only been a few months that he'd been in that world. The new character was pretty dull (and of course he'd be a massive weeb), and all the references didn't do anything for me whatsoever (is the show saying that Rimuru had a photographic memory back in his original world, given that he could perfectly recreate all that manga?).

Also, a salt bae meme in 2019? Seriously?

Considering just how far this episode got, and considering what they cut out, I would expect us to actually hit that volume 4 cliffhanger by the end of Episode 23. And all of the little references to other manga series (Houseki No Kuni), and even that forth wall break with Yuuki having an issue of Shounen Sirus where Rimuru is on the front cover. I thought this episode was very fun, and we also have Rimuru starting to come into his own as an active protagonist.

the Anime is like ,

So these 20 episodes covered a span of two years since Rimuru came to this world. Makes sense considering all the events that have been happening...

Ingrassia has automatic doors? Well now. That's more advanced than I expected...

Hey! Is Belldandy THE Belldandy that I'm thinking of? I mean there's only one Belldandy in anime who's more iconic than any other Belldandy..

Glass Mask! I'm going to have to watch that someday...

Rimuru is a Manga Processor! He should just write manga and spread it all over the world!

Land of the Lustrous! Wait...is this anime allowed to do that?

Yuuki is a cool guy. It's refreshing to have Rimuru interact with another person from his country after so many episodes.

So Summoned Children are expected to live only 5 years...And Rimuru plans to change that? Well these children look like trouble. Good thing Rimuru knows how to keep a cool head.

Did I see double salt bae? Lol
Not the direction I wanted to see the show go in, this part doesn't look promising to me, I'm not a source material reader so, could be wrong. In saying that, wasn't there an announcement that the last few episodes would be something different to the source or main storyline?

LOL They actually ate the Charybdis. I remember thinking in the last episode it looked good enough to eat.

Also Rimuru bathing with the hotties.

This episode had a lot of heartwarming moments. Rimuru going on a journey alone brings back memories from the first episode. He's surrounded by a lot of wonderful monsters who respect him and serve him but it's nice to see him discover new things on his own. It was nice seeing him get impressed by the glass and automatic doors. Someone as powerful as Rimuru who can create manga, albeit to the dismay of his Great Sage oneesan, is still impressed by glass. It must have been so nostalgic for him.

Those kids are already ten years old, they're going to die soon! :(

ALSO that SALT BAE reference lol

I knew that this would happen when the staff said to adapt all the manga until today, by order of the committee, the thing is that at least if they leave with a certain scene
it will be an epic ending.

and they gonna hype that event
to the point that it could boost LN sale even more

what do you mean by that?
I mean, why it's gonna hype if Rimuru's the one defeated though?
or it isn't really defeated, instead of he's manipulating her or something like that?

I think mickbis is refering to those who keep complaining about Rimuru being some OP Gary Stu who easily resolves everything without even trying with his power and "talk-no-justsu".
