So one thing I want to clarify is that I praised that this show DIDN'T use CG in the beginning. Many shows tend to use GC for background people but in this show, it didn't! (Which is a good thing)
However, it was my mistake to assume this show to be a harem. Since the main character said, "If I'm reborn, I'll be a lot more aggressive. I'll sc*ew every girl I see...", it would make sense for this show to be a harem but it apparently wasn't. It seems like the dialogue isn't coherent to its own story and led me to think ahead of myself. I'll apologize for my mistake.
Also, if I were to make a comparison between this show and the first episode of Sword Art Online, we can tell a lot more about Kirito from the first episode than the guy from Slime. I don't particularly like SAO but it does have a solid first episode which made it watchable for me. In the first episode, we see that Kirito is a loner and likes to play games alone. The only reason why he helps Klein is because Klein pleads to Kirito and Kirito can't turn him down. Not only does that show that Kirito doesn't like to be around people, it shows that he is a nice person on the inside, who can't turn down requests from others. SAO displays that first episodes can still define a character, which would hook the audience into watching the following episodes. (Though SAO falls down later...)
In the case of Slime, the man does indeed protect his friend from the robber, which can show his heroic side. However, if being a "good person" is his character, then he's simply not a well-defined character since its such a vague character trait to have.
