Jiren isn't supposed to be a villain though.

Nice little surprise in an otherwise predictable ending. Bravo, Lapis-san. Great season finale, DBS!

Awesome episode... I cried. Can't wait for the movie and the next season. One thing that I'm interested in for the future of the show's plot is the fact that the wish stated to the dragon was to restore the universes that were erased. They didn't specifically say to restore the universes that were erased in the tournament of power.

Could this mean the other universes previously erased by Zeno have already been restored but they're just keeping quiet about it for now??

Maybe the new antagonist from the upcoming movie is from one of those universes - who knows. But let's hope we see more universes and more developments for each universe and to keep this awesome show on going just like one piece has been going on for ages. Big thanks to everyone that contributed to making this show the success that it is

Yeah. You said it. I heard the movie would involve Yamoshi and the history of Saiyans and Freeza's people. Can't wait for more. DBS really took me back.. I'm still liking the manga version better though.

It's hilarious how many still can't accept that DBS is a childrens series. They desperately want it to be DBZ and crap on it every time. Yeah it's predictable, but funny, hella nostalgic and a good sequel - period.

I'm sick of it. Go back to your Vanilla WoW private servers and cry more because you are trapped in the past and can't accept the present and that things move on.

Overall I'd give DBS 6 or 7 out of 10. Mainly because of the low budget Toei planned for the show. Without those long movie recaps, with a more constant animation quality and a bit better script (i.e. Jirens story which came too short) I'd give it 8+.

Which is funny since Z was hardly a complex or deep show aswell and was relatively predictable too. And it sure is funny how ressurcting everyone isn't fine in Super while people conveniently forgetting Z is literally the reason that happens all the time in the first place.

I feel like the ending could have been a little better, but I'm not really complaining. I'm voting 5/5.

Dragonball Super is, in my opinion, better than Dragonball Z. It had a few bad moments, but overall it was an awesome experience and very entertaining to watch.

DBZ was even more childish and predictable, this is just what dragon ball is. I guarantee you if you erase all the memories of DBZ for all of those guys that keep shi*ting on DBS because its childish would prefer it over DBZ. People need to differentiate between nostalgia and facts.

Finally this series is over, my personal ratings:

Beerus arc 3/10 (terrible animation and the movie was a little bit better);
Golden Frieza arc 4/10 (Frieza is the only good thing of this arc);
Universe & arc 5/10 (Hit and Frost were interesting);
Black arc 6/10 (Zamasu was interesting, but there were too many plot holes and retcons);
ToP arc 5/10 (Ribrianne, the pacing and the numerous asspulls ruined this saga).
Overall 4.6/10

I enjoyed much more the SoL moments since they developed better the characters (especially Vegeta, C-18, Gohan and Piccolo). The fights were a little bit better than DBZ post-Frieza fights, but still not as good as DB and DBZ Saiyan-Frieza arc fights.
I don't have big expectation for the next series, but since I'm a DragonBall fan I will watch it.

So now im just waiting for the movie where Jiren's planet or universe is in trouble and goku comes and helps and beats the crap out of the guy that jiren was trashed by.

PS does anyone know the song they played close to the end? it sounded very much like one of the OP/END of Toriko, curious to know if it is the same band

Oh man, I was worried about this episode. That it might be rushed, illogicall or generally plot-wise weak. At the same time I was hyped because of information that Yuya Takahashi was going to be the artist responsible for DBS' grand finale.

What I eventually got proved that I was completely wrong. This episode was just epic. I consider the final fight as the best fighting scene in the whole Dragon Ball history and definitely one of the best anime moments ever.

The plot did not seem to be rushed. We had some plot twists (but not as huge as from ep130) and a fine ending showing all the heroes back on Earth, with special scenes after ending ended.

In conclusion, this was one of the best DB anime's franchise episodes and definitely, at least in my opinion, the best DBS episode.

And I say that as somebody who is Dragon Ball's fan since 1999, haha.

Honestly, I can't say I'll miss it. Tournaments (most of this series) are just really lazy, IMO. Doesn't help that the animation was extremely low quality a large % of the time. Predictable but good ending, so that's a positive. And the characters are still awesome even if some of them contradict their old personalities a lot

I agree, instead of actually thinking about an engaging story we just get half assed tournaments for most of the series. Sure they were fun at times but damm, at least be a bit more creative

I dont think anyone would say DBZ was complex or deep but at least it had proper tension and really impactful emotional moments. DBS stayed a joke from the beginning to the end, not a bad series but very average

What a surprsingly good episode after the non-fighting action that made most of the previous episode! It was nice to SEE rather than imagine most of the action on screen. Also, the Frieza / No17 sequence was quite good on its own.

4/5

PS: AND IT's OVER !! (for now q-p )
Going back to my dear DB books.

Overall:

Storyless and average nowadays series, useless side-story to something that didn't need any more dead weight (at least DB doesn't really "suffer" from this), mediocre quality most of the time or worse, mostly unfunny, no actual fighting like most of Z. The change in japanese TV tolerance between the 80s and 2010s didn't help too.

Score: 3~4/10

The final fight of the episode? BAD
The wish? Predictable!
The Goku words before disappearing Jiren and friends? Unnecessary
The Goku returns to the battle? for cry!
Freiza returns to the "life"? I can not stop to smile, hilarious!
Happy end? Welcome to the Goku of the XXI Century!

In general, the series was BAD, BORING and very PREDICTABLE!
4/10 and I am very generous because if you don´t remember bad when the series started the bad quality of the animation was a big problem and I have to remember bad arcs and bad episodes and bad fights possible the punctuation for this series was 10, minus 10!!!! lol

I hope that the new adaptation of two arcs will be better!!!

It got more fan fic as the show went on. Honestly I swear I recall seeing these characters that a guy I knew in middle school was drawing and ocming up with...back in the mid 90s! Oh well...at least now I am vindicated in always wanting to see the gods of this franchise...though they only showed the gods o destruction and a few angles, the little god guy(s) and bodyguards. Fleeting, but at least in the end ...it ended lol. SOmehow 17 came out on top roflolmfao 6/10 for the series. ONTO HEroes and the movie in december :P

This series could have been a lot better had they cut those first 2 movie arcs, they're a really big blemish on an otherwise pretty good follow up to Z. The very low budget it seemingly has kinda gives me the feeling that the team wishes they could actually do that.

Uni6 was a lot of fun, although I found it very tough to be invested in ANY of those characters apart from Hit. Goku Black was a really well done arc and is definitely the best of Super, I'd argue it sits just below the Saiyan Saga honestly.And while the Tournament of Power is a really fun arc I do feel like it could have dragged on less, nevetheless it was overall a really good arc. The ending was super predictable and pretty damn weak if you ask me, though it sets up for more content and there is seemingly another season in the works + Broly, so I can forgive a weak-ish ending in that case.

The writing is wonky as hell and it's asspull heaven but those are basically just staples of the series lol. Fun show overall and from what I've seen most people saying that it's complete garbage don't really remember what the original series were like.

17 wished for the erased universes to be restored, and not just the universes erased during the tournament of power. Therefor I assume that universes 13-18 have also been restored.

There is something I have been wondering about, where are the angels from universes 13-18?
And how were universes 13-18 paired? The universes 1-12 are paired so that one pair equals 13. Were universes 13-18 a different type of universe compared to universes 1-12?

Well I had serious low expectations when I started but got blown away by the impressive last two arcs a whole lot more than expected! I thought at least they would have a full episode to close it up, but no an amazing epic ending with still so much room for continuations. Especially now that Freeza got resurrected and all the erased universes.

Very impressed in general and it certainly was a great watch!

I never thought I would get to relive my childhood like this all these years later. 17 has become my favourite character in the franchise, and... Top.

LMAO at 17 telling Freeza to raise his Ki.

Goku used Instantaneous Movement to save them.
Jiren's smile.

GA GA GA GA GACHI DAZE!
THE FUCKING SAKUGA!!!!!!!
LMAO! Freeza lost his tail.
Goku dives in!
IKE!!!!!!!!!!!
Goku and Freeza are out!
Jiren is out. That means....

And that was the end. What a finale. This arc saved Super.... or should I say Migatte no Gokui hype and this team up against Jiren that had me screaming. I rewatched it so many times that I memorized all the moves and attacks they did and started doing it while watching. When Goku was beaming himself towards Jiren and Freeza it was the same animation scene from Kami to Kami when Goku was punching the rocks then turning SSJ then flying up from underground. Thanks to Shida. Funny they hyped up MnG for so long only for the fight to not end with it and instead a teamup. Goku wans't even the last person standing because he's the villain in this. So what's the point of SSG now with MnG now existing? lol Anyway, RIP to Hiromi Tsuru.

The manga version of the Tournament of Power arc was a lot better. I won't go into specifics too much but in the manga version, the whole Universe 6 Saiyan stuff, the Kale, Cabba, Kefla stuff, all happened in a continuous thread. In the anime, they segmented each of those moments into individual episodes. The way the manga handles the Kefla's defeat is mostly inferior, UI Goku vs. Kefla was one of the highlights in the anime, but ultimately, the way the anime paced things out lead to the Tournament of Power feeling far more episodic in nature, than an actual story arc. I did like Vegeta's motivation here, that was basically anime exclusive, and one of the only real narrative threads to carry-out throughout, so that was a good addition but ultimately, the episodic nature of much of the Tournament of Power and it's extra length in the anime just made it feel exhausting. The manga's quicker pace and tighter focus made it feel more like a battle royal, and allowed it not to become a slog of battles. It also helps the power scaling was much more moderate, the anime went super over the top here, which isn't completely awful but UI Goku vs. Jiren was pretty to watch if nothing else and I can see the appeal of adding more spectacle to the battles, but I personally prefer the manga's approach. Also, I can hate anime Kale, which her characterization from the manga carried over. The last episode itself was fine, Goku and Frieza teaming up to eliminate Jiren is a great resolution, same with 17 being the ultimate winner. Goku and Vegeta sparring on the rocks was a perfect closing note.

If I was to rank all the arcs of Super . . .

Battle of Gods ~ 2/10. Horrible pacing that ruins one of my favorite anime movies ever. It devalued much of what made that movie worked so well and didn't replace it with anything of value in exchange. Just a painful slog that is mostly responsible for it taking me five years to finally get through the series.

Resurrection of F ~ 4/10. Just becomes incredible dull once it becomes a drawn out fight with Frieza, do kind of prefer it to the movie before then. But I'm not that fond of Resurrection of F, the 6 I gave it was generous.

Universe 6 ~ 7/10. Fairly fun and competent tournament arc, loved the Frost battles, Vegeta/Cabba was sweet, and the Hit fight was pretty cool.

Black ~ 7/10. Fantastic build-up with the mystery of Black and Zamasu as a whole is the best developed antagonist of Dragon Ball (not to be mistaken with the best antagonist mind you), and I still think it had the best animation cuts the whole series. Would've been an 8/10 but the plot got pretty repetitive with the constant traveling between timelines and battles with Black, and the power-scaling and ending with Trunks was kind of stupid.

Tournament of Power ~ 5/10. Some cool moments, but overall an exhausting episodic slog of just battles.

I'll give it a 5/10 as a whole. I'd most likely recommend the manga version of Super over the anime, sans the Universe 6 arc, which I feel was basically universally better in the anime, and parts of the Black arc. The manga kind of drops the mystery aspect which was the best part, but otherwise I liked it better.
