THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Eh, first episode was okay but felt kinda blend except the opening parts. We got intro of the main characters in a school life setting. While the majority of the cast are guys, there are some female characters too although they seem to be just side characters for now. Felt very slice of lifish for the storytelling. There are also flashes of past storytelling too but those aren't happy moments so far from what's shown. I felt bad for Kouta tbh. RIP grandma. |

That was very nice, better than i expected it to be. Surprisingly emotional and well done, tackling the embarassment of liking something that others won't and finding some people who are the same as you. |

First half felt a bit slow, but once they gave the other main characters screentime it picked up a bit and I found it more interesting. |

This was an good start. I think this was more of an introduction before moving to the actual thing of the series, which I'm looking forward to. I like the art and the characters to be fairly honest. |

It does somehow feel like an ad for sanrio. It's interesting enough as a SoL though. Very cute ! I give it 3 episodes. |

Huh. I expected this to be a one and done or a shortform that I'd grudgingly watch, but I actually kinda got into this. I mean, it's not great but the statement to like what you like is actually pretty well expressed and emotional enough to be worth some praise. I might actually keep watching this. |

Much better than I imagined, I might keep up with it if doesn't get worse. I kind of hope they keep some drama included, the emotional flashback with his grandmother was the best part for me. Well, that and the faux start. I would so watch a whole show about that play. |

definetly wasn't sure what to expect from that start, and this is better then it should be, especially the art, that opening scene of being stabbed, the windows and the design was incredible heh hehe now I want to be sanario, would restsuko count? :> even though thats a different series. |

Based on that little montage right before the credits, I'd assume that was the case. I imagine it'll follow a line similar to "Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine" where everyone's troubled past or current hangup will get mentioned at some point while they're all becoming friends. Looks like it'll be fun though. |

So is this shouen-ai, or is it just bait lol? I like how it tackled masculinity. Not a lot of shows do that. ..Well, I guess traps, shounen-ai, yaoi, etc. already do that. |

That was actually pretty cute--besides the dumb logic of some parts (he ran away for too long. Like was he never gonna give it back just because he assumes the other guy would be better off without it? And did he really tell his grandma to shut up and then didn't talk to her again until she died???? Holy hell) I was pleasantly surprised it was a full episode length tho. I expected a short. |

It's a nice message but I feel like the gay baiting defeats the point of the message sort of. I don't have any problem with gay baiting. But if you wanna spread the message that guys can like girly things without being trans or gay or whatever, then gay baiting isn't really helping that message. Whatever, I guess. It certainly is a bit better than expected but also I have no idea what I was expecting. Interestingly, this is based on a manga but it appears they're not really adapting from the manga, they're just inspired by the manga. Apparently the manga has a female protagonist and it's a romance between the girl and one of these boys. But I guess they chose to drop her for the anime because gay baiting makes more money? |

Pretty mixed, they handled embarrassment far better than most anime, but these boys are more like adult gay men than high school kids, so it doesn't seem like they're giving boys characters to identify with and make them want to buy Sanrio toys, it seems more like Kitty has gone pedo fujoshi. Meh. I was going to be disappointed no matter what since it isn't more Show By Rock or Aggressive Retsuko. |

I really liked this first episode. I was kinda skeptical on how they would execute the story, but so far it seems its gonna go in a good direction? The humor was there as well as the emotion. Also the music was good and that weird face that Kouta does is hilarious so I hope to see more of that! |

This was actually pretty cute! Very lighthearted and happy. I actually did enjoy this 1st ep. Definitely more enjoyable than I expected it to be. Also wasn't expecting to get teary eyed in the first episode either, poor granny :( I do feel bad for Kouta though, little kids can be really rude to each other, and that kind of teasing can really hurt one's self-esteem at that age, for being "different." Not huge fan of flirtatious characters, but I love Saito Soma, so I quickly accepted his character and found Yuu to be rather cute. Especially his childhood friendship with Shunsuke. Usually there's an obnoxiously positive spazzy character that I dislike, but the closest one to being that is Yuu, and I like him already. I have a feeling I'm going to like this series. |

I'd almost waved it off during the play in the first 2 minutes but damn having low expectations can sometimes pay off and you get a pleasant surprise. Relatable character - the whole issue with wanting to shine - or envy towards the more popular people, the difficulty of helping someone while fearing that it might be taken the wrong way (helping the little girl) And having a hobby that nobody takes seriously - back two schools ago it was the same with anime and manga for me xDD I can feel him so badly lol But it really seems the best defense is to plainly and proudly state that you like it. Gets other people in the defense. "I like it - so what?" I also kinda still prefer to watch children's animation films or cartoon movies or stuff like that which is meant for children here. I definitely prefer them to many of these soulless hollywood action movies most other people in my agegroup seem to watch *sigh* kinda still have the stuffed plushies from my childhood (why am I even telling this here lol) Poor grandma though - but it reminds me to call my grandparents again...who knows just how long they are still there. It might not be a given that they have a tomorrow when you can call. |

Hmm. Well I thought I'd give this a chance because I didn't know quite what it would be like (even made the first thread about it) and... It's not what I hoped for at best but it's also not what I dreaded at worst. It's clear that this is a shoujo that does go for the appeal of having different archetypes of pretty boys. At least it's not a female protagonist - no risk of a reverse harem situation. The start had me dreading the worst especially, with the subtle boy x boy tensions (not hating on shounen-ai, it just seemed like they might do it in a cheap way) and seemingly nothing going on. And then they cut to the main character and I still couldn't get behind his vague "I want a sparkling youth" thing like they do in Love Live. But then they got into some drama and gave the protagonist a backstory. This was actually pretty good. It was a fine enough flashback and let me somewhat get behind the main character. The side characters seem like annoying pretty boys to be honest. Not a fan. Maybe they will get... Somewhat good? So, yes I'll try the next episode. But this clearly isn't a comedy so It's going to have to impress me with the story / character development to keep me interested. The low production quality and "cute boys liking cute things" certainly won't be enough on their own. |

Even if it's just to advertise Sanrio toys, it wasn't too bad. These single gender shows tend to lose steam with me so I'll see how far it lasts, but at least it's not more idols. I actually liked how much like regular guys the MC and his friends behaved(most times). It's true people might have reported him just for trying to help the girl, lol. The rest of the cast seems fairly standard but maybe they also will get some layers. |

already dropping it after episode 1, tbh. it's a shame bc the concept was a cute idea, i love sanrio, and the animation is SUPER nice. and hello kitty guy is so incredibly my type, lmao. but it was soooooooo boring. they're blatantly trying to reel in the free! crowd except they've got like, nothing exciting to offer whatsoever. it's clearly gonna be slice of life except i can already tell they're not going to do a good job of making us actually care about the characters, it's all gonna be surface level so i'd rather not waste my time with it honestly. to give praise where praise is due though, i have to say (aside from the animation quality, which i've already commented on) that mc having those two friends is a nice touch. more often than not mc's tend to be loners so it's nice to see him have *some* kind of depth, at least, rather than have it feel like he just popped up out of thin air for the sake of the story. |

I can't say another thing apart from that it is stupid. As a child he gets angry and he doesn't visit his grandmother for years, are you serious? It is stupid like that, but their family is ok with that too? Seriously doesnt make sense at all, and as a child you get angry easily but you forget easily too. Too, i can understand that a high school boy is ashamed of showing that he likes something cute, girly or childish, but no this high school boy and their friends. They are going first to play with puppies and after to karaoke, and it is even morer stupid when their friends say about the cute character because it doesn't make sense in that context at all. Then he starts to run when he sees a guy because he would ashame him with the key chain, the guy which is wearing the key chain before and he seems not to care at all. The actions and the results are just poorly written and done. |

I was expecting a simple comedy show, so I was surprised that we actually got something with depth. Certain kids being made fun of just because they like things different from their peers is certainly and sadly true, and the way they showed Hasegawa getting bullied was realistic. I love the message the anime is giving, saying it's fine for boys to like cute and girly things, and they shouldn't be made fun of for it. It's kind of like how, and yes I'm mentioning them...how Bronies got into My Little Pony. It's fine to like girly things...until you make terrible decisions and make a bad name for yourselves. Either way, no one should ever feel embarrassed for liking what they like. Hopefully the show will continue this message forward, and keep things interesting. |

Aggretsuko is clearly the best Sanrio character. Not a bad start, though the fanservice parts with the shower were awkward to watch. Why was he just standing there like that. In the beginning of the episode, it seemed like the mouth movements were really weird. Did anyone else feel this way? I do like that they're tackling a subject that like this though. Like what you like and no one should make you feel embarrassed for it. |

Maybe a year or so. Seems like he was in elementary and just started middle school based on the picture. I did think it was weird that he was mad at his grandma for that long. Maybe because of that incident, no one wanted to play with him anymore and caused humiliation. And he isn't a 5-year-old that forgets as easily; he's a pre-teen and at that moody stage. "hey are going first to play with puppies and after to karaoke" Do you see something feminine/cutesy in those things that guys would be ashamed of doing? I see guys play with puppies and go sing karaoke often. But liking Sanrio that's targeted more towards girls? Nah. Then he starts to run when he sees a guy because he would ashame him with the key chain He ran because he didn't want the owner to feel ashamed about having it once others find out. The key chain was partially hidden so I don't think the MC knew that he didn't mind. Basically didn't want the past to repeat itself again. -------------------------------------------------------------- Anyways... I thought this first episode was more decent than I expected. I was expecting a lot more fluff and less substance but it had a good amount of depth to it and it conveys some values that others should respect and follow. They do it too after they go to hug puppies." That's basically the theme of the anime (not the hugging puppies part). That guys aren't supposed to like cute brands (that's targeted towards a female audience) like Sanrio because they will be judged by society. The past and the present scenes of this anime stressed that. They showed us through the flashback, through the key-chasing scene, and through the missing child scene when he pretended not to know the name of the character. Dunno how else they were supposed to show that having Sanrio merch or having knowledge of Sanrio merch is embarrassing. "He seems to me older but it doesn't matter if it is one or three years it's the same nonsensical thing." Hmm idk about you or others, but "years" is a pretty exaggerated guess for assuming how long he ignored his grandmother. He was probably in elementary school when he ripped the stuffed toy and when his grandma was in the hospital, they showed a picture of him at the entrance ceremony. Tbh, I think pointing these things out is irrelevant. I hope you and I can both agree what is MORE important is that he avoided his grandma long enough that he wasn't able to apologize to her directly before she passed away. "And you didn't read my last statement because the wearer of that key chain wasn't hiding it before and it is just more stupid because he keeps running after even when they haven't the girls near. Then he gets assaulted for the other guy in another ridiculous fanservice scene. I could pointing stupid things during all episode but i'm not really in the mood." Actually, I did read your statement. Every last word. It may just not have been clear for you (or me) when I was explaining myself. The key was not out in the open at the time (eg. key twirling in his fingers out in the open) and Kota (the MC) assumed that Yu (the purple-haired boy) was hiding the key under his jacket. Let's remember that Kota thought he was the only guy in the school (and probably in the world) that liked Sanrio and if someone did like Sanrio, they would not declare their love for it out in the open. Kota doesn't even know Yu that well to begin with. If I were Kota, I would be scared and surprised that someone's chasing me and I would keep running until they stop pursuing me. I don't think someone would stop running after being chased. "Seriously if you think that script is decent or it has substance, i can't say anymore. I don't want to start a flame, i just wanted to release my disappointment after watching that. I suppose that if you watch this for the bishonen and the fanservice you will enjoy it. Have fun :D ." Yes, I do think it is decent and has substance for an anime of this LEVEL. I didn't expect anything much out of this anime, and it was better (not loads better but still better) than what I expected. And no I didn't watch this for the bishounen or fanservice. =) I actually avoid those things if possible. But I'm a fan of Sanrio and thought this was an interesting anime to watch to kill time. I don't think this will start a flame. As long as we keep the talks civil and refrain from throwing insults and blind accusations, I think it's fine. I'm not replying to you to force you to like this anime, rather, I would like to clear some misunderstandings that may have happened while you were watching it. |

This anime is going to be very interesting, at least for me. I like My melody too, and pink is my favourite colour. When I was in Secondary school, I switched my pencil bag to a very "girly" one. But I will hide the pencil bag subconsciously even though I'm the one who decided to use it because it's embarrassing. But after a period of time I felt a lot happier and became more comfortable with wearing or using pink staff in front of the others. It feels satisfying, like I've break through a wall or something. It would be very nice if we can witness how the protagonists learn how to love, and break through their "wall of embarrassment". The first episode perform pretty well so far, I don't really understand the low rating, maybe people dislike anime that are also commercials? (Maybe that's why Ramen daisuki koizumi-san has such low rating too?) Or maybe people dislike anime where guys look handsome ??? |
