I wonder if the jokes at the end of the anime are real hints but I was expecting von MAPPA that we get some Onsen or bath scene with the king or other males characters at one point in the serie. They did Yuri on Ice after all and the character design of Azazel for example is a somewhat "woman and gay-friendly" kind of fan-service.

I am not often into the mascot characters but I loved the shameless licking-ass attitude of Hamsa toward Sofiel and in general his interactions with Nina. Those two are funny together.

The high point in this episode for me was the exchange of point of view between Charioce and Kaisar, I noticed how the king emphasized that he was doing all this for mankind, not only for himself, how he doesn't believe in peaceful coexistence with the gods and demons (he doesn't trust them) and how sure he was he could crush any opposition (that's foolishness for you).

You did not realize Mugaro was a girl because he is a boy. Pay closer attention to what Azazel says about him. Nina is simply oblivious to most things.

I could guess Nina is a child of Amira and Favaro(? how is that possible) left in care in the dragon village, hence why she resembles the Bahamut himself.

Kaisar is that average hero of justice unable to face the harsh reality until the end. Endless endorsement to him.
There is also that parallel in insane King's philosophy with today's world of humans longing to transcend their origin and questions of whether they should really do it.

this episode is great. I somehow managed to understand what the King really wants. I can understand his action. Trying to be the best beings can also give human peaceful life. But he is also wrong IMO since slavery won't change anything.

Wow!

Mugaro is a girl?

Perhaps this is the most important issue of the whole episode, but the rest is not to be thrown away. Really interesting the power Mugaro possesses, perhaps that is the real reason why the King wants her dead. As a whole, the episode is pleasing and interesting to see, I can not wait to see the next episode.

still not sure about mugaro's gender, but in case of a reverse trap in anime, it's usually the female cast who will notice it at first, while all the male cast were being ignorant about it until the big reveal..
well be it trap or reverse trap mugaro is still adorable :3

Kaiser finally grows a backbone..... after getting sorted out by Rita, lol.
Standing up to the Charioce was good and all, but because he's an idiot, Charioce doesn't even consider him a threat. This will probably work in his favor later on.

As for Mugaro..... I'm still not sure whether he's a she.... still looks too unisex to tell... Even a drenched Kaiser looks more like a girl, lol.

I'm quite convinced that Mugaro is a boy. I mean he's wearing boy clothes, and I guess the one who gave him the clothes was Azazel. He is living with Mugaro so he has to know his gender. I was thinking about maybe Azazel wanted Mugaro to wear boy clothes to keep away those who are looking for Mugaro, but looking deeply into it, I think Azazel doesn't even know, that Mugaro has special powers and he is being pursued.
So I guess it's only Nina mistooking him for a girl.

The characters are using different pronouns to address Mugaro, and you can't guess his gender by it. For instance Azazel addressed him aitsu and koitsu (can be used for males and females), the king refers to him as a child (kodomo - also can be a he or a she), only Nina is calling him chan (used for girls).

Anyway this episode was also an interesting one. Less tension, more interesting conversations. This is the best show in this season. Actually, I think this is the best show in the recent years.
I'm still waiting for the merchandise~

I can't understand why there are people saying they won't be watching this season because Favaro and Amira is not in it. The story is based on a CCG and in the game in every event there are different protaginists. I can't see why it can't be good with other main characters. I'm glad, that as well as the game, it has other characters in spotlight.

To be frank, personally I think the King resolution was better in theory. But what makes it not feasible is obtaining and using that absolute power. There's no way to maintain that overwhelming power even if he managed to get it eventually.

Sometimes, you have to fight evil with (greater) evil, poison with poison. An example of this in real life would be how you deal with terrorists. Quite sure the movie, Unthinkable is happening in real life to a certain extend.

It's bound to end in tragedy for sure, base humans are just too weak, though it's not exactly unthinkable for one side to beat others completely, it's just that... I dunno, the way the series criticises him so far is not on point, imo. Yeah, this isn't a high-brow show, but it still grates. Kaisar says that all three races stood together, but they faced extinction, they were not exactly cooperating until it was vital, gods didn't act when they should've, demons are actually to blame for the whole thing - that event doesn't prove much. And demons truly aren't friends to humanity, Azazel isn't Nina's friend.
And the king is a post-war leader, it's sort of understandable that he wants those who were involved in hurting humans and hurting him (most likely) to suffer.

I, er, know that I shouldn't overthink it, but I don't like the tone sometimes.
It'd be better if Charioce was bigger and more tragic. I'd prefer to see a crash of a big idea or a conflict of two views, not the current one-sided moral. Doesn't work in their context for me.

CG said:
As it was mentioned in this episode, for one, Kaisar is one of the heroes hailed far and wide for fighting off Bahamut. It wouldn't do a favor to Charioce's reputation to openly imprison him, exile him or execute him. In secret though? Yes, like what he apparently did with Jeanne. But this is where reason #2 comes in play. Charioce seems to be fascinated by Kaisar precisely because their views are so clashing - he sees that Kaisar really is a very upstanding, honorable and fearless person, so it gives Kaisar's viewpoint weight that none of the others have in Charioce's eyes, as well as his lowkey respect. I get a feeling that Charioce actually would like Kaisar on his side pretty bad, with a pure and noble person like Kaisar it'd be like the highest acknowledgement to him that his chosen path is right. At the same time, he has a bit of mad dog tendencies with his intention of basically fighting the rest of the world that isn't human, so if he can't have Kaisar's support, he wouldn't mind having his hostility, wishing for a clash not only with words but with swords as well, like "Bring it" and "Try me if you can". That's how I interpret his warning to Kaisar in this episode.

But then Kaisar isn't really popular as we've learnt, even among his knights, and it seems out of character for him to fight the king politically when offered retirement because of the difference in views. The king also is shown as an effective and clear-minded person, he has created a well-oiled war-machine, why leave a rogue cog in it? City people see Charioce as the reason for their prosperity, would they care about Kaisar? And Kaisar is pure and noble, but so rigid.
The best explanation I can see is Charioce being too self-confident for his own good or maybe he doesn't see Kaisar as a threat but wants to keep an eye on him. But he can do the latter by sending some spies and doesn't need Kaisar leading kingts for it, to be honest.

In the end, I guess, we know too little about Charioce's personality yet.

----------------------------------------------------
There's another thing that started to bug me too - what's with Mugaro dissolving demons by kissing them on the arena in front of everyone and nobody being interested in how he (used for simplicity) can do it? The gods noticed him because he used his power, were those dissolvements not a demonstration of his power then? Looked very similar.

I really should focus on fangirling, I guess. -_-

A practical reason, really. Kaisar has ties to Azazel --> Azazel has ties to Mugaro, the holy child --> Charioce wants Mugaro's power for his own. His knight just needs to follow Kaisar around until he leads him to Azazel and then finding Mugaro is only a matter of time. Charioce is a smart son of a bitch.

You mean that he was lying when he said that he was fine with opposing opinions? Maybe. Though pressing Kaisar after that would've been more natural.

I saw Charioce as more of an assertive person than a liar, but actually it's hard to make any assumptions about his actions at the moment, little is clear about his personality. I hope they'll flesh out him soonish. The dinner scene in this episode struck me as sort of a missed opportunity - nothing new about him or hia plans was learnt. If he remains a presense instead of a person for longer I'll be very disappointed and it'll hurt the plot in my eyes.

That's the problem with Japanese language, you can easily talk about someone without revealing the sex of that person, which makes it difficult for translators :c Even Nina says "that kid/child", we can assume that she thinks Mugaro is a girl just because she bought him/her a dress.

Lady Sofiel is ofcourse so gorgeous!
Bacchus is too drunk to even verify the truth of Mugaro.
The Ideals of Kaizar vs Charioce was too deep. Exchanging of words shouting was awesome!

Rita's reaction to Kaisar's over the top ways was priceless. This show really knows how to combine comedy and action very well, were it doesn't feel like a hindrance to the rest of the story.

Loving it.

While Kaisar is objectively in the right, I think most humans who grew up in that world would actually agree with the King: the Demons treated humans like shit, while the Gods just helped them from time to time so Demons would not get to feel too good about themselves. Still doesn't excuse the King supporting those cartoonishly evil slavers though.

And I must say, the King is an enigma. He seems like he is waiting for something, and doesn't care much about the present affairs. In a way, it feels like this is all just a movie for him, and he is waiting for the good part to start.

She really does think Mugaro's girl, eh? The longer this goes the bigger the surprise will be later :D

Kaisar is so dumb though, talking like that with the Emperor. I kinda half though he would offer him a solution for peaceful resolution of current conflict, one that would lead to freedom of the demons yet under the rule of current majesty yet he had to be so stubborn she achieved nothing. She literally could have made him like more and achieving his goal at the same time yet he didn't even try... oh well. Not to mention he was also so self-centered with Rita before.

Poor Rita. She was so eager for that confession. Looks like Kaisar ain't getting some zombie pussy any time soon.

I like their conversation a lot. Kaisar is venting his frustrations on Rita because he's been getting a lot of shit recently. His feelings are understandable and Rita is fed up with all of it because Kaisar used to be a lot more simpleminded than he is now. He's now overthinking things which is understandable since he's currently at a much higher position.

It seems that Nina mistook Mugaro for a girl. Not that it matters anyway since Mugaro looks like he's enjoying himself.

So it looks like Bacchus and Sofiel had history together with the way he's reacting to Nina and Hamsa's teasing.

Bacchus scream at the end lmao. I love the comedy in this show.

The highlight of this episode has got to be the exchanges between Kaisar and Charioce. I get both point of views. Charioce is a very ambitious person. He started out as a nobody and after taking advantage of a tragedy, he rose to kingship. He's doing everything for humanity and he seeks power strong enough to even overthrow Bahamut itself for the future of mankind. I like him so far. He's a very interesting individual.

Poor Rita, having to put up with Kaisar and his problems. She looked like she got her hopes up a little too high when he said he had something to confess.

The noise Bacchus made at the end really made me chuckle. He and Hamsa are in an awkward place now, knowing that Mugaro is the child they are looking for.

Charioce and Kaisar have a clash of ideals. I'm curious to see what Kaisar's next move will be, knowing that one wrong move will mean his death.
