AHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS WORLD IS SCREWED. Sashav stumbled across one creepy as heck village there, but hey, at least they aren't trying to rip out every bit of our souls in this anime and let Sasha actually live. They at least giving us a few happy moments. Now to figure out what the heck was going at Conny's place. Also, outro still weird as heck. Gotta find that song and play it around the house randomly to annoy the family.

My god Sasha's flashback trying to eat whilst being restrained by her father had me in stitches. That was some animalistic hunger from her there.

Loved how they portrayed her growth in this episode, both in terms of combat abilities without the necessary equipment, and also in terms of her attitude towards savilng/helping others who had nothing to do with her.

Now let's see how much development Conny gets next.

I love Sasha getting screen time. It feels like I love every single female character in this show to bits xD. I like how they portrayed her character development, especially in a more natural way because in the manga it felt like a very forced scene. But dang, that kid watching her mother be eaten was pretty brutal there. Especially when she was just sitting there, in shock.
I also love Krista and Ymir getting that bit of screen time with Sasha~ I love Krista and Ymir, and that scene was cute as all hell.

Great episode.

Armin theorizes that the wall might be made out of hardened titan skin, back when S1 ended I thought the same thing. Wonder if it's true. :o
Also I simply cannot fathom what kind of reason the church guy would have to keep his mouth shut like that when Humanity is facing possible extinction.

For the theory, we already know that it's true since the half time of last week.
It's amazing that you guessed it though!

Humanity's extinction, that's unlikely, since Annie and the others obviously don't come from inside the walls, hence there's humanity outside of them too. As for the reason, I could try and guess, but I'm sure I'd be wrong so no point :) It'll probably either explain the birth of the titans (failed human experiment? biological weapon with the test subjects rebelling?) or the 100 years break.

Sasha was awesome. But knowing AoT, the next episode would probably involve someone (with a known name, at least) dying again.

Haven't read the manga yet the ending really looks so dang spoilery lmao I'm guessing one of the people living in one of the houses turned into a titan... or something idk that's just my guess. Wouldn't be surprised if humans themselves intentionally let titans in so they can lessen people there.

... Not that I actually want to be spoiled, though.

poor conny though :( the next episode or two will probably be the one in the abandoned castle so that'll be fun - that was my favorite arc in the manga so i can't wait to see it adapted

Oh, well I'm glad I was right about that. xD

Annie and the others are from outside the wall? I don't know, if Humanity existed beyond the walls they'd probably be nomadic tribes or something, unless there's another similar enclosure to the one we are shown and if there was, wouldn't they have made contact by now? Based on a little of Eren's backstory, the titans seem to be some kind of experiment gone horribly wrong with the best cases letting the subject transform at will like Annie and Eren. Plus Annie and her comrades are attacking humanity, so even if they were originally from outside the wall, wouldn't they have killed their creators? I suppose I'm probably way off here since all I know is what the anime has shown but it most certainly feels like Humanity could face possible extinction to me or at least endangerment.

It seems that the consensus is that we all thought Sasha would die, I was shook lol. So glad that she didn't. Maybe I'm dumb but I thought that the little girl was a titan, I thought that the horse being scared of her was a sign and she had the same look in her eyes as the titan. Is it just me or are the titans uglier, creepier, and scarier this time!? Either way, fine episode. I'm looking forward to seeing the clues next week. I enjoyed seeing Sasha, I find her food obsession more annoying this time, and funnier last time but I still like her, kind of.

Sasha had some character developments compared to what she was. Good for her. Loled at the scene where she acted like a beast just for a piece of meat.
Dat mom got eaten slowly and her lifeless daughter did nothing aside was quite disturbing. At first, I was like "Why don't you do something", but Sasha showed us that even a well-trained soldier could barely do anything but escape without the proper weapon.
I liked her talk on their way of running and how the little girl's eyes became more hopeful afterwards.

I had this crazy idea which is probably wrong. But the way they transferred from the titan's eyes to Connie's eyes made me think those eyes were alike. And the way it's stuck by the house really looked like it transformed from a human being to a titan in the house so that it broke the house and got stuck. Maybe it's even Connie's family? But only his mom seemed to have blonde hair.

Anyways, another 4/5 ep. Somehow I felt more emotional for this ep than the last one.

Yes, it's explained that it was Erwin's reason when he only told his plan to people that have been in his crew before the wall Maria fell.

There is no reason so far to believe this Country is the only one. You could have other similar enclosed ones, or maybe the titan are just the weapon of another one that lives fairly normally for all we know. Yes we are constantly being told that it is all that's left, but since we're being lied to by the priest and others... there could easily be more underneath that. The whole country itself could be the experiment, kind of like Claymore, where they're just building a weapon and trying it out against whatever they have on hand.

We're also being told most of them don't know about the sea in S1, maybe there's more humanity behind it (or them if they're multiple seas), that the tians have no access to (or maybe they can swim...).

In the same way, we don't know what birth the titans. It could very well be the country we're watching but it could be another one, and in this case Annie and co wouldn't be destroying humanity or their creators. Of course another way to look at it would be a revenge thing, the titans were the slave in the experiment and they're taking their revenge against the family of those that did that to them.

All well and good giving Sasha some screentime and development, but when this series is only one-cour I cannot bring myself to care that much. It honestly felt like filler, and the only interesting bit was the scene in the end at Conny's village. Then again, maybe developing these side characters now will pay off later, as I suppose it's the lack of development for characters such as Sasha that made me less interested in this episode.

sasha was awesome in this episode! it was nice to see more of her.
as for the titan, i have a feeling it's one of conny's siblings, since the titan had those tiny limbs which would make sense for a titan based on a child. the question is though why they would turn into a titan.

I don't get comments like this. This season is adapting the whole Clash of Titans arc. Episode 2 was no filler, Sasha's side-quest is part of this arc, so it's not like the anime is wasting screen time on anything. There's going to be tons of revelations and action scenes (starting next week), so what's wrong with giving some much needed characterization to some side-characters in the first episodes?

I find it even more weird as one of the main complaints there were in the first season was that the side-characters were underdeveloped. I guess you can't please everyone.

Nice episode once again!

Sasha got some well-needed development and even a badass moment, and Armin's little theorizing pretty much confirmed that the walls may be full of titans and that as such, breaching them from another spot than the gate might be difficult. The titan that can't move yet ended up on Connie's house further validates that theory.

Other than that, I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on Sasha's father's speech on "communitarianism" (for lack of a better translation of the word "communautarisme" or "repli communautaire"), which was definitely one of the episode's highlights for me given how relevant it is. While Sasha's stance on the preservation of her people's culture and traditions is understandable, promoting isolationism is condemning her village to a slow and painful death. Compromises have to be made when living in community, and it's satisfying to see that Sasha's finally managed to open herself to others and gained some courage.

They are going to adapt 15 episodes from the manga, is not that bad pace since they can almost adapt 1:1 and have already adapted some scenes from future chapters like Eren's mother saying him that he should protect Mikasa (this happened in the first chapter but it's from the end of this arc).

That's not filler. It's in the manga.

Again, the pacing is perfect to adapt the full arc. If they had skipped Sasha's story, then they would have lacked content. Would you rather it be 11 episodes?

I honestly was worried that Sasha would be killed against that titan, but she thankfully with her impressive skills under severe pressure, she escaped successfully and reunited with her father and his group.

I have sympathy to the poor girl Sasha rescued, who had to watch her mother being eaten alive by that titan. Her expression alone was scary though.

In Sasha's flashback, Ymir really had to be a bit of a bitch to Sasha just because she didn't like the way she spoke to other people, but little Krista did the right thing to defend Sasha for who she was. It was really nice of her to defend Sasha. =)

For Conny, I have a feeling that the titan he saw is someone he knows. Maybe his mother, maybe not, but I'm sure the answer to that will be revealed soon I hope.

Yup, although we do get enough data to correctly guess a lot of things, the bigger points are harder to guess :)

And from what I was told towards the end of S1, we'll only get more questions with what we'll see soon, no t so much more answers :)

They are doing an adaptation, almost 1:1.
This isn't filler, this were chapter from the manga.

If you think this episode has been filler you should drop it right now, there's more to come and it's necessary for the plot development further ahead.
Battles aren't the only thing and never expect a S3, it'll be even more "slow" paced than this one.

Watching this episode, it felt like I was discovering some parts for the first time. o_O I'm probably disturbed because of the new agencement like @keragamming wrote.

3/5 Did they highlight Conny's and the titan's eyes just to give us one more hint?

@Sapewloth Basically everything that made the episodes 3 to 11-12 in the now old 26 eps format is labelled under this name here. Weirdly, I remember a time (only ten years ago) when people were putting the word "filler" only on episodes made to fill the airtime in order for an adaptation to let time to its original manga.
Here and now it's basically used for any animation, original included, and for any episode who didn't directly affected the sacred "plot".

It's as self-explanatory as in the comic when you watch the titan and the house's conditions:

Makuro said:
Is that Conny's mother??

@joe_g7 Aha, it's not that incredible when you consider the fact the titan can't move and the house is damaged from the inside, the talking "ape titan", the OVA with another talking one, and most importantly Eren and Annie. ^^

@ALAKTORN Doesn't the above qualify as "plot" since it's a story-relevant revelation ? (though I recognize that the action scenes looked like they were crammed in just for the sake of having action even more than to demonstrate a character's resolution)
edit @ALAKTORN Indeed, it was only the "cliffhanger" (I think I can call it that), but to say that it is hard to talk about "plot" because "it's so easy to miss" means that sprinkled elements of resolution in a mystery story aren't "plot".
I guess that 's maybe the reason why I thought the paper equivalent seemed less heavy to go through (I think the sasha incident was separated in different chapters, each with other things in)
