The May 2017 issue of Jump SQ has announced that Manga Rurouni Kenshin will receive a new serialization. Titled Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido-hen, the series will begin this Summer. The issue officially releases on April 4.

Rurouni Kenshin is drawn by Nobuhiro Watsuki, and was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump for 28 volumes between April 1994 and September 1999. The series inspired a TV anime that aired from Winter 1996 to Fall 1998 for a total of 98 episodes, as well as several OVAs and specials. An anime film titled Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Ishinshishi e no Chinkonka premiered in December 1997. The manga also received live-action adaptations, including three live-action movies that premiered in August 2012, August 2014 and September 2014, respectively.

Wait what? Seriously? Nice!

Hope it's not remake or side story. It would be nice if it's after Enishi Arc

Minor info.:
Other than new arc of Rurouni Kenshin, the line-up of new serialization also includes "comicalization" (manga adaptation) of Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu for August issue.

GIVE US THE REMAKE MADHOUSE! You know Kenshin deserved it more than HxH.

Anyways, glad to hear many older Jump titles rebooting. Let's just hope they don't turn out to be a disappointment.

Goddammit. I thought it was a new season, maybe the Enishi arc finally gets adapted or something. But it's yet another manga series.

Well, other studios can still license this series, right? I mean didn't ufotable did the same with FSN?

Also, I am not implying that Madhouse was involved with RK; however I want them to be involved now.

Still waiting for Enishi Arc after all these years.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

They can't just do whatever they want. DEEN owns the license right now. If they don't want to sell it, not even WSJ can give Madhouse the right to animate it.

Wasn't this already announced like 6 months ago? Because I'm pretty sure this was already announced like 6 months ago.

P.S. Here's Viz's English version of the original teaser for it, the last page of a 2 part one shot that was billed as a spinoff but was secretly setting up an actual new arc, Viz included it in their special issues that were doing nothing but one shots and specials while the real Jump was on break in Japan 3 months ago (already well after Jump had run the chapters in Japan).

This came kind of late, since I knew this for about three weeks. But, back to subject, I am really looking forward to this since this my favorite manga franchise, I have read this series countless of time, It a story I never get tried of and heck I am now writing a review of this series.

Seeing this came back is like me reliving my childhood since I grow up with the anime back it was airing on Toonami, so it feel hyped and happy seeing how I can get to read some new content.

What made makes me the most excited is that this was an arc he wanted to do, but decide not since he want to end his series,, which I was fine with since it ended perfectly. The reason why he probably came back was probably to the motivation he want to continue it. Now it coming it, back I believe Nobhiro Watsuki can make a great story. Seeing how he handle to the two chapter prequel to this, I can definitely trust in his current state that he won't disappoint us.

Now thinking about now is the perfect time to for the anime to come back and adapt the manga correctly this time. Which I hope does happen soon, I hope Madhouse does since they are best studio for it.

Overall I am really hyped and looking foward to reading this once it starts.

Does not matter with the studio. I just want the new remake (?) is filler-free and covers the Jinchu arc. Reflection's OVA is garbage.

Edit : I got it wrong. It's not about anime adaptation but it's a continuation of the manga. I'm looking forward to it!

I don't know how to feel about this, I trust Watsuki enough as writer to at least make something enjoyable but what else is there to tell. Based on the preview I imagine it would follow the Jinchu arc but clearly before the final chapter or that random Yahiko one-shot so it's not really a true sequel but instead something along the lines of Dragon Ball Super of Kinnikuman 2015.

Despite being a huge fan of the manga, I wonder why I am not interested at all.

Nobuhiro-sensei didn't manage to write anything decent since Rurouni Kenshin and I have this fear that he might have lost his golden touch and a continuation will ruin it.

I used to rate him as one of the best in the industry when Rurouni Kenshin first came out in English but having read hundreds of manga since, I have realized he is nowhere near as good as some of the best mangaka out there. How can I explain. Somehow his use of words don't carry the same impact as some of the best mangaka's do.

He will never make it in my list of great mangaka which is a shame because I still adore Rurouni Kenshin and it still holds special place in my heart.

Yes pls, tho it's arguable whether Tsuiokuhen was a canon, it's still the best in the franchise. I'd like to see more of Kenshin's cute childrens <3

RK is one of the best written Manga out there, so making him look like an average Mangaka isn't true at all.

Mixed feelings about this...
I ADORE RK, it's in my top three favorite manga/anime of all time. But, the manga ended kind of perfectly, and whatever WASN'T directly addressed in the ending, was open enough that I could fill the gaps myself. If he writes a continuation of it, what if certain characters end up dead? Or worse? He writes OUT certain characters.

Also, I wasn't too big on the AU he released a couple of years ago, it felt to sped up, it hardly focused on any of the characters that I grew to love, it felt shallow. And if the new series is anything like that, then as much as I love RK, I don't want it. :/

[disclaimer: It could end up being really fantastic and build upon already existing character dynamics, but I am sadly skeptical of this.]

It's called opinion. And nowhere I mentioned that he is average. I just said I (as in ME, MYSELF and should not be considered as popular belief or a fact) don't think he is one of THE ABSOLUTE best.

RK is one of the best manga out there and there is no denying that. It is one of the best written as well if I consider the powerful historical setting, the amazing list of characters, the journey we had and the conclusion we were given but what I was emphasizing on is the use of words that leaves an impact on the readers. They were too few and far between for a manga that spanned over 250 chapters, as if almost non-existent. Which felt very endearing in the beginning felt repetitive after a while. Dead people don't come back to life. Learn to love. Use sword to protect. Protect the weak. Love and Peace. It was rinse and repeat throughout the manga.

You are entitled to have your own opinion but I thought I should make things clear if I created any confusion through my initial comment.

I can't wait to see Seta Soujiro again!

If you wanna start RK, read the MANGA first! That's where the story is. The anime is full of fillers. Read the manga first, then the anime and live-action movies ^^

When you have the chance of being one of the few Weekly Shônen JUMP mangaka out there that achieved in concluding decently your long running series of the golden age JUMP, I find it stupid to want to re-open it. Especially when the concerned title was starting to wear out its welcome during the Jinchû chapter (yes, I'm talking about those fights).
I really wonder in wich part is its publisher responsible for this decision...

Anyway, since this is already settled the question is: what will be the mutants casted for this new chapter ?

I wonder why some people are so negative about the sequel before they even read it. First of all, it's extremely difficult for a mangaka to produce a "hit series". If you've read "Bakuman", you know that success as a mangaka is not easy. There are no mangaka that I've heard of that produced multiple "hit series" in their lives.

It's not uncommon for mangaka to reopen a series after years of hiatus (eg, Dragon Ball, Berserk, Glass Mask, etc).

I'm super excited about the new arc because my favorite character (Seta Soujiro) will reappear. Also, as Watsuki said, Kenshin will still be the main character.

I want infinite RK and I don't want the new arc to be too short, either. There are also so many things that Watsuki can bring to us, such as, he can give us short stories about Kenshin's 10 years of wandering, or show us what happens on Soujiro's journey. I'm very interested.

I just hope it won't be something like Gunnm where the mangaka removed the ending to make a sequel after 6 years . The sequel was freaking terrible and the new artstyle too.

Anyway regarding Kenshin the second arc wasn't as good as the first, i'm not too excited about this. Well if it's bad i will just pretend it doesn't exist.

A shame, the ending was perfect

I just looked att he author other manga and it seems like none of them were popular or really liked, i guess bringing kenshin back is the only way to get people to read his shit.

It's sad, it's like code geass, a perfect ending, no need for a sequel, so when a sequel is announced it just feel like they need money.

But i don't totally depsair, it could actually be good, who knows....

Really? I think Kyoto Arc is the best arc in RK.

As for the drawing, I'm glad to see that Watsuki's artwork is still awesome; in fact, I think some of the characters look even better than before.. haha.

I'd argue that Rumiko Takahashi's "Inuyasha" is a hit.
My point is that that there are many mangaka who have produced extraordinary manga that is their only one hit. XD

My bad i guess, i've always thought that the arcs for Kenshin were two, the Kyoto arc and the Jinchū Arc.

I've always connected his arrival to Tokyo with the Kyoto arc.

Akira Toriyama (Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball)
Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, HunterxHunter)
Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, InuYasha, Rin-Ne)
Hiro Mashima (Rave, Fairy Tail)
ONE (One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100)
Kikyou Azuma (Azumanga Daioh, Yotsuba&!)

Hell the Bakuman duo had that as their second hit. Late, but it's 3 AM and I felt like proving a point on the internet.
