I thought this was gonna be a poorly animated "Women shoving their butts together to push each other off" kind of anime that would have zero charm. Let me tell you all right now, I am a guy who dislikes fan service. The usual fan service feels so forced that it ruins the flow of the narative. Like the story magically shuts itself off just so the viewers can waste 2 or more minutes on a few scenes to observe their waifus in their 'natural habitat'. I walked into this anime for the hell of it for it's concept alone and expected it to be terrible and souless.

Boy was I fucking wrong.

I never laughed my ass off at all of the over the top butt techniques and the sheer ridiculousness of how shounen this anime is. It honestly reminded me of Kill La Kill. Though there were some concepts that made me rolled my eyes, the overall focus on the butt/breast wrestling solved my problem with fanservice.

The fanservice is TIED with the plot and doesn't feel forced at all. In otherwords, if the show is about Girls beating the shit out of each other with their asses and breasts, MAKE SURE YOU FOCUS ON THOSE ASPECTS.

I compare this to Sonic Games. If you are making a game about speed, KEEP IT THAT WAY. Which explains why I get so irritated when sonic games 'slow down'. Within this anime, the fanservice doesn't feel distracting at all. Instead it comes prepackaged with the Shounen elements of this anime. Instead of a random swimming anime where we get to see the girls groping each other in the locker rooms or falling down on each other for basic yuri shots(Though I feel like those scenes WILL happen which will be very disappointing), we are treated to over the top action involving butts and breasts. It doesn't feel distracting at all because this is the main focus. The anime is about a sport that uses those concepts.

You get your over the top shounen, ridiculous humor WITH your fan service. It's a perfect solution.

The main character has an epic rage face and actually fights on a tactical level. She is a brilliant booty warrior and I hope I can see her do more insane moves. The fact that she is voiced by Lynn means we are in for a treat.

The flat chested Loli which reminds me of Cirno has something special about her too. Even her after image technique comes off as poking fun of her small chest that she makes it up with an amazing butt.

I'm excited to see what the other two main characters can do in the field of booty fighting. Rivals are gonna be made, friendship blossoming and hopefully some even more over the top action.

It's like everyone wins in the end. You get your fanservice and you get your epic shounen with comedy(Comedy coming from the sheer ridiculousness of the concept)

I have high hopes for Keijo! But I do fear that it will fall into overused echhi tropes later on.

Welp, not gonna lie. Was a bit disappointed that they didn't start the show off like they did with the Manga. The segways into this new school thingy is just weird, as are the flashbacks. If I weren't a manga reader, I'd be lost as fuck with what the hell they were "training" for before they were accepted into the school.

That said, this show is all about the booty, so I guess most viewers will still be happy for a distinctly disjointed plot.

And this is coming from someone who bitch alot about how fanserviece is ruining anime

@ArondightDestiny

Well you seem to want the tournament shounen aspect paired with the absolute overt the top craziness that this first episode already had.

I can safely tell you that you will get this pretty much all the time.

It's like this author had a crazy idea of making an actually shounen but give it an absurd and obscure touch to it. The thing is he went all the way with it...ALL...THE....WAY. This series knows what it is and it just goes with it all the way through.

I really like to describe this as a mixture of Shokugeki no Soma's usage of obscurity and character relationships and Haiykuu's pumping feeling.

And yes the author even went all the way with the sport and he seems very creative and detailed about it. The anime starts of in the middle of the story so it skimmed a little over the detailed explanations tho from the screenshots I see they will implement the theory about the sports afterwards.

In the end it's a matter of how much of this you watch. At first some people might be thrown off by the fact that these body parts are used in the sport but the more of the content you consume the more you accept it as an hilarious and entertaining shounen.

A great debut!

I swear I'm surprised, ok before had read good reviews about the manga, but did not expect something that pleased me so much, half a season of so many animes facing the fujoshis, an anime so it is up to give relief, ecchi never was my favorite genre, but in this case I'm excited, animes with tournaments / competitions for me always has a climate more, I'm hoping that a lot.

Animation:
Well fluid into the studio, something that surprised me, too, but as the first episode does not count for much, we'll see the rest.

Ost:
For me were very nice the OSTs of this episode, fitting the context.

Characters:
So far a little cliché, but still, some interesting characters, that caught my attention were the two dorm, both clumsy as deredere.

Not half bad. I doubt it will be as good as Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! but I like the comedy mixed in with the sports. Especially the clumsy girl in room 309 is on same stupidity level as some of the chars from Milky Holmes anime ha ha.

Hopefully it won't get too boring fast. The acual matches don't seem that interesting but the other stuff besides that (life in that school/dorm and the backgrounds about their motivation why they joined) might be interesting.

Ok... I am a little disappointed about them skipping 20 chapters... Yes I get it, they got right in the middle of the action, but! I think they could have gone through those chapters in 1 episode or 2. Sure we can say that it may not be as fun as this arc (trough, I got huck up from the first chapter), but some pretty damn essential sub plots have been lost - the MC's background (trough we may get some flash back later), and the background of the white haired girl, how the rivality between them was born, and the subplot with the story behind the girls they fought in the exams. Those chapters also show that the MC is in fact really competent, doing really great in the exams and being extremely promising - someone who could have been in the elites - but having the bad luck of meeting a much stronger rival. The anime made her look like the average girl who is following her dream. Like I said, the skip doesn't make too much justice to the white haired girl, who loses some character development with it. Some information’s about how hard the sport actually is, and dangerous had been lost too, but they can do that later. I am also disappointed by the small number of episodes. I was expecting 24, because obliviously I didn't expect the skip - 12 are too little.

Other than this it also exceeded my expectations. The art is good, and the animation is great. I loved the action scenes. The voice acting is ok. And I am satisfied with the amount of fan service. This Studio produced mostly ecchi show and I was afraid that they will exaggerate. But they didn't... the anime is just as ridiculous as the manga. I love it. Despise the skipping and all, I still think that this will probably be the anime of the season. And it shall become a legend... just like Kill la Kill - anime that I still have to see.

I am glad that most of the peoples seem to enjoy it. I watched it with my brothers and sister... they were really against it (especially my sister), they were all like: ''What are you making us watch, Oniichan!!!'' And I was like: ''Silence you peasants! This is the anime of the season!''
I am kidding... they don't call me Oniichan, that is just my weaboo dream Q Q Anyway, by the half of the anime they kind of got into it... excepting my sister, who must keep the appearances... the fact that she is a lady... if she wouldn't fart so much she could be successful.

When the official twitter came out with a statement saying it's a serious pursuit in sports, I decided to give this show a shot. And I was not disappointed. The tools in use are definitely strange ones, but it followed a lot of shounen sports tropes and was really awesome to see.

When that one girl pulled a boxing trick by hitting people on their chins to cause unconsciousness I was very surprised. Also, what's with the Gate of Babylon in the OP?!

Yeah many people misunderstood this statement as if they aim to make this overall premise and show serious instead what they meant was that they take the whole sports aspect serious.

Surprisingly the author thought about A LOT of mechanics, theory and variety within the sport that makes it actually rather "complex" if I can say that. This KO-ing by inflicting upwardly directed force against an opponent's chin is only a small example.

I love how so many people caught that. Well without spoiler, let's just say that this is a little outlook on just how insane, over the top and hilarious this will become.

@kronopy While I can absolutely understand you I think it was necessary for them to jump right into this part of the manga to hook people. I'm sure that if they started out slowly many people would've weighed the unusual and absurd premise above the actual shounen and sports aspects this has. With this hey have achieved what this whole series main purpose is, absolute entertainment.

I'm sure they will include the backstory via flashbacks and from screenshots I could already see some of the earlier chapters ( training sessions ) implemented and combined with the new cast ( Non and Aobe ) so they definitely don't ignore them entirely.

I also think this was a good step because adapting the highlight of the current manga series ( E vs W war ) is definitely a plus.

Also now that I think about it they have plenty of time to implement the backstories as the matches translate way faster into anime. so what takes around 5-7 chapters in the manga might only be ~10 minutes in the anime.

I bitch about the ecchi genre all the time and yet I just watched Keijo lol
Maybe it’s due to
1) the show knows it’s over the top

2) doesn’t try to forcefeed some outrageous story like most ecchi anime

3) only a female cast(thank fucking God.. A guy can only take so much fujobait bishonen bullcrap for so long)

4) no shit beta generic harem male MC

So it’s pretty much “so bad it’s good” but it’s gotten me to laugh

This is a guilty pleasure.. Nothing more… Don’t judge me

I mean most of the "anime is saved" comments are mostly jokes.. It's a guilty pleasure anime obviously it's not trying to be what it isn't.. That's how most ecchi anime fails

Exactly! I completely agree with you. This show proves that the Ecchi Genre can be brilliant at times and not just some tasteless genre that continues to be trumped on. It's about time we have more effort in our anime concepts and take more risks.
