| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Huh...this first episode seems more darker than the premiere of the first season. I think it's a neat start, they got a case already that doesn't look pretty. So far, I think the first episode of season 2 did a decent job at reintroducing the main idea of the show again. Although for now, it feels more or less like a buildup and featuring Dazai. I'm hoping they adapt as much as manga as possible later as first season had two episodes that weren't. Can't wait for rest of the season and other main guys/girls to show up :D |

| 4 years ago when Mamo's character was still part of Mafia group. He drinks with Suwabe-san's character and FukuJun's character. Suwabe-san's character is main, it seems. He was assigned to search for missing FukuJun's character. Mamo's character also in another mission where another group killed members of the group. Suwabe-san's character's ability is to see future and cannot kill?! Mamo's character feeling suspicious of what FukuJun's character said on the day when they drank together. Continuing next ep. OP (ED this ep.) was nice. |

| Wait are they adapting dazai's past from the novel ? Cause that's part of the novel called "dazai and the dark era" not the manga. But that might ruin the pacing of the guild arc which i hope it doesn't . |

No in the manga , he's such an ambiguous character (which i like actually, makes him mysterious), and his past is only explored to a limited extent. This novel is to expand on that . |

| Bungou Stray Dogs is finally back!! Holy cow, I wasn't prepared for this. I never expected them to show Dazais past as it was not in the manga. But it was so good! (I'm a bit concerned about the pacing of the guild arc, but I guess they'll manage somehow.) Anyway, perfect episode for me as a big fan of the novel. 11/10! Can't wait for next week! Also looking forward to opening and ending~ |

| Amazing start to a season. Dazai is great character, and it's nice to see he was suicidal even before he became "one of the good guys". Let's see where they go with this, but so far, great. Also, mafia boss sounds the same, acts the same, yet looks completely different. Could be just different visuals, but it's still kind of odd. |
| A good start to the second season, I'm liking this focus on Dazai and his time in the Mafia but I hope that it doesn't end up distracting from the present with the guild, the agency and the mafia looking like they're getting ready for a fight |

| Oh my. I thought the 2nd cour was going to continue with the guild arc. Didn't expect them to animate the second novel instead. I guess that means the OVA will no longer be about the second novel. Hopefully the guild arc won't be too rushed 'cos there's quite a lot of content. Was the cat and its name 'Sensei' a reference to Natsume Soseki's works? That would be interesting. The scene where Dazai was asking the Mimic sniper to shoot him.. It is scenes like this that show how much of a broken man Dazai really is. |

| What a blast of a start, i was SO waiting for 2 season thinking what kind of first episode it would be, and Oh boy it couldn't be more perfect for me. Dialogues were perfect, the detective scene were the best in this anime (so far).Dazai was the funniest this episode. I knew Dazai was a great detective almost like Ranpo, but i didn't know he was that GOOD, just WOW. It was really nice to see Dazai's past and some familiar characters, what they were like back then. Elise <3. So Dazai had and maybe still has 2 really close friends who he used to drink with, until one day death of one of them managed to part them. I loved the picture scene,was really nice. I liked the Oda character,hope he gets more screentime in the present. Really like how he doesn't want to kill anyone, his ability and just his personality. So Mori knows how good he is, even though Oda is not an executive otherwise he wouldn't have instructed such important task of finding Ango. I will rewatch it until episode 2, since it will be pretty hard to wait othewise and the episode was just THIS GOOD |

| Well that was great . This really captures the essence of dazai's character. It will also tie in with some plot lines and thrown hints in the guild arc . Next episode will also be backstory just like kunikida . I hope it doesn't take away from the guild arc . ALSO |

| Excellent start, what with a first episode better than anything in the first season. I'm very much in favour of this more serious approach ot the story, and I really hope it continues for more than a couple of episodes. Definitely not what I expected, that's for sure. |

| I definitely wasn't expecting to see Dazai's past all of a sudden, especially now that I'm finding out that it's not even in the manga. Looks like Dazai was just as wacky and suicidal back then as he is now, and that scene where he was taunting the sniper.....even if he claims he was just acting, that part made me realize just how much he really wants to die. This was really interesting so I'm looking forward to the rest of this backstory. |

| Ah, this was nice, but kind of...disappointing. I was expecting to see Atsushi and the rest of the Agency, not just...Dazai and his past. But oh well, it was a good episode nonetheless! ^^ |

| Didn't expect this to be the introduction to the 2nd season IMO. But its still a pretty good one. Daizai was seemingly less cheery when he was in the Port Mafia, yet still somewhat clever. Neat.... |

Some parts of the manga do imply that some sort of conflict between certain characters in the past. This is explained in the second novel which takes place 4 years before the current anime timeline. |

| I've been looking forward to this all day. A great start to the season, and I like the new OP song. I also like the darker tone this has compared to the first episode of the last season. Hopefully this season doesn't disappoint. |

| I still haven't watched the episode in full detail, but let me clarify some things first: As you may know, episode 6 and 7 from S1 were an adaptation for the 1st Light Novel of Bungou Stray Dogs, called "Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam". I'll just say that they butchered the whole adaptation, since, to begin with, it actually happens 2 years before the main plot. About this adaptation... it will probably last around 3 or 4 episodes (they need that amount of time to not rush it), which is worrying for the main plot, because they may end up rushing the Guild Arc, and that's not a nice idea. So... no, it's not the whole season, just a few episodes to go good. As for these episodes... as someone mentioned, it's the 2nd Light Novel, "Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era", which gives him a huge amount of backstory, even though he's not the protagonist (the protagonist is Odasaku, as you may have noticed already.). The light novels are referenced on the manga, but never added into it, because at least the 3 first ones are used for backstory. (The 4th one, who came out recently, seems to happen after the 2nd Arc) Anyways, I still have to watch it in full detail, but I'm so glad to have this adaptation. It looks good so far! (This chapter ends with the end of chapter 1 of the novel, which has 4 chapters in total, btw) I'll comment later in more detail, look forward to it! |
| That was a really good start, All the mystery and Dazai's past in Port Mafia is really interesting. Odasaku also seems like an interesting guy and this seems to be narrated from his point of view. Looking forward to seeing more of this. |

| @Krystalwitch damn that's kinda worrying . 1 out of 4 chapters covered from dazai's backstory till now. I hope it doesn't take away from the guild arc or rush it. That alone is 20 chapter arc which will need a minimum of 10 episodes to not feel rushed cause 2 chapters per episode is alright imo . |

First episode of second season already feels darker and more mature than the entire previous season, and I say "I love it" This will be more than just a little peak at Dazai's past but an entire saga, which is great. Dazai is a good character an hides so many mysteries. The OP sounds good. Damn, this Dazai really pays attention to details, a lot! | Decent first episode for the 2nd season. Nice flashback on Dazai & his time in the Port Mafia. Love the OP song SCREEN mode. Looking forward to the visuals next week. Mori is quite odd as the leader & he looks like a vampire with those clothes on. Odasaku's foresight ability is quite handy. Amazed all that gunfire didn't hit Dazai or Odasaku. Hmm now where is Ango. Looking forward to seeing more. |

| Well, I admit the episode took me totally by surprise, since, considering the point in that the first season ended (+ the PV showing the Guild conflict), I expected the series to start where the first anime ended, and not Dazai's past comming out of nowhere. Despite my early dissapointment, I liked the episode. Dazai is always amusing to watch, so anything giving him screentime can't be bad. In fact, the scene at the end when he confronts Mimic's sniper was really, really intense (the OST was on point here). I also liked Odanosuke a lot. Apart of being voiced by my favourite Japanese male VA, his design and abilities are cool and I liked how calm and down-to-earth he is compared to Dazai. I hope not, but I think he will end dead by the end of this flashback, and that's a pity, because he has potential to be a really interesting character. After reading commentaries above, I understand this is an adaptation of a novel of the series just like they did with Kunikida in the previous anime, but if to finish this flashback we would have to need other 3 episodes, then I'm really worried with how Bones will handle the remaining 8 episodes, considering the Guild arc seems to be long. This flashback should have been adapted into the OVA and not into the main anime imo. Would have been a better move. Anyway, if this cour ends being a trainwreck, I will consider seriously to read the manga. The OP sounded alright, but I would have prefered to watch the visuals. Btw, the boss of the Port Mafia is a certified lolicon, that scene made me laugh. |

| @Sonnetica As @rigolotekitten has said, the novel links to some important plot points in this arc, so I think it's a nice idea. What bothers me is the time, but we'll see about that. In any case, now that I have watched the episode nicely, I must say I really liked it. They cut out some dialogue (ones which I really liked actually), but I think it's natural since it's an adaptation from a novel, and they weren't absolutely necessary anyways. About the time, I think the novel will last 3 anime episodes... but I think it's still too little time, so if they'd just made it 24 episodes instead of 12 AND also made an adaptation for the 3rd novel (that also holds some relevance), that would be fine. But I highly doubt they will do that, to be honest. And for those who are curious on why these three are together: The real authors were grouped up as 無頼派 ("Buraiha"), or Decadent School, and it seems they shared some sort of friendship, so that's why. I'll explain a few more things about this with later episodes, since it can even "spoil" plot things. Anyways, I'm so glad to see this animated because I really like the novel, but I'm a bit skeptical in case they mess it up. Looking forward next week! |
