This was actually really interesting. I liked this more than the first. I still can't understand everything but hell, that whole Shiki/SHIKI thing was quite amazing. The animation went smoothly, pretty beautiful to be honest. And the music, utterly marvel to hear. 8/10 |

There's still a lot of mystery to uncover about Shiki and her other SHIKI. This episode seemed to be dedicated to Shiki and Kokutou which was nice. He was very attached to Shiki. Very into her. |

Plot is messy, the film is making things more complex than it needs to be. Dialogue is less cheesy (thank god) A solid 7 but that undressing scene makes it an 8. |

Nice episode, though it was more horror-esque than mystery with the decapitated bodies. The soundtrack was great as the previous one's, and the art being brilliant the only flaw I found with the movie was that it left us midway, with the mystery surrounding the murders still remaining an enigma to us viewers who haven't played the VN. P.S. Am I stupid for not knowing how Shiki ended up in hospital after holding the knife to Kokuto's throat? |

Yeah don't worry about that, it's left that way on purpose for the time being so it's not like you'll miss out anything as you watch the other movies. Also if you noticed, it's called "Murder Speculation Part 1" for a reason. ^_^ R2 said: P.S. Am I stupid for not knowing how Shiki ended up in hospital after holding the knife to Kokuto's throat? Nope and same as above, you're absolutely right for wondering about this and it becomes very important later. ^_^ |

Another one done.... Im all hyped up now (~~*_*)~~ |
There’s no hope on the battlefield. It has nothing but unspeakable despair. Just a crime we call victory, paid for by the pain of the defeated. Yet humanity has never recognized this truth. And the reason for that is, in every era, a dazzling hero has blinded people with their legends and prevented them from seeing the evil of bloodshed. The true nature of humanity has not advanced a step beyond the Stone Age! |

Another great movie :D It seems like up to now we've seen the first and third piece of Shiki, thought neither one of them was fully explained ... yet! This series is so exciting! \(*o*)/ In the end, Shiki was taken to a hospital due to her mental state? The hospital she was in looked like a normal hospital, not like one specialised in mental illness... |

Well, this one was certainly clearer in its narrative. No random ghosts thrown around, rather, a clear focus on Shiki and Kotukou. But dear lord, that boy is crazy. End was a bit ambiguous: is she in the hospital because of her psychological condition, or is she there because of something else? I'm not sure if it was just me, but I noticed Kotukou limping when he was on his way to bringing her flowers. An improvement over the first film. The dual personality disorder was a catch. 7/10 Ps. I'm seeing a very happy Kiritsugu in Daisuke. Ufotable things? /shrugs |

Much more coherent and easier to follow, even if it was a more...subdued experience. The whole double personality thing was interesting though. But I just realized, with this dating, is Shiki still in high school (in movie 1)? What a surprise. Bit confused at the ending, though I guess it'll be clarified later. |

I just double-checked the novel and film timeline and I was right. She's 19 in Movie 1 since she went into high school at 16 in 1995. She spent two years in high school and at age 17 (1996) she went into a coma. In this regard, two years later she's 19 years old in 1998 which is when Movie 1 was set. The reason I said 19-20 is because she's turning 20 in the following year during Movie 7 which starts at February 7 which makes it really close to her coming birthday at February 17 (making her 20 after Movie 7). Also by "late high school to college years", I mean her age, not her actual school life. It's heavily implied that they're already meant to be in their graduating years since Mikiya had already joined and subsequently dropped out of university around the time after Shiki had woken out of her coma. Shiki simply resumed her high school studies at an older age of 19 years old just as she was about to turn 20 within the same year (1999). So at 19-20, she's technically in her late high school years even though she's still in high school due to the 2-year coma. Basically: Movie 2 - 16 yrs. old (17 yrs. old by the end of the movie) Movie 1, 3, 4, 5 - 19 yrs. old Movie 6, 7 - Still 19 but turning 20 yrs. old Epilogue - 20 yrs. old NOTE: When I say "college" I'm referring to the Western equivalent of Japan's high school (Year 11-12) which serves as the two prelim. years before going into university. In Western terms, Shiki is already meant to be in her "college" year in Movie 1, but she's still in "high school" based on Japan's school system. |

I enjoyed the first movie enough, but this one was a bit better I think. Some of the things the characters were talking about in the first one kinda... "flew over my head" a few times. Not sure if that's the right way to put it, but yea. If that makes me stupid, then so be it. :p Well that wasn't the case here anyway. Easy to understand, although there are still unexplained mysteries of course, but that's to be expected. Based on what I've read in these sub forums though, certain events in the first movie(s) will make more sense later on, so perhaps I'll appreciate the first movie a bit more at some point... who knows. Anyway, I'm liking the series overall so far. Looking forward to seeing what the third movie has to offer. And yea, great animation and sound... as expected. It's ufotable. |

The amount of evil portrayed in each movie appears to be continually increasing... I'm not sure if I'll make it through the whole series if that turns out to be true. Love is stronger than evil, but it takes a special kind of person to be able to love someone as enveloped in evil as Shiki is. |

Amazing visuals, animation and ost. I preferred this story to the first one and I enjoyed seeing a rapport between 2 people that felt genuine, despite it's insanity. Looking forward for things falling into place in the next couple of films- |

erm, if she was that worried about her killing people, why didn't she just turn herself in to the police? she's not superhuman so it's not like she could break out easily, if at all... the whole idea of kokutou talking with a murder was creepy, but turned stupid when he was running away from her (and gave up so easily!!!!). i'd put him in a hospital, he's mental for denying someone being a killer just because he likes them. the directing of he show was good, and even thought kokutou's running scene was stupid, it was beautifully done by the animation. the OST is pretty fairly done as well. there's not much interest in the movie at all to keep me going, in fact it was the "next episode" preview that made me have the effort to carry on. 6/10. |

Upon rewatch my opinion on this movie does not change. The movie is a pretty good at setting up events that are to come, giving us more insight on Shiki's character and her relationship with Mikiya.Something I loved was that the movie keeps you guessing if Shiki really did committ the murders. |

The experience was amazing... From start to end I felt like I was the one in the story, I could feel the rain, the cold weather, the humidity, the fear, the horror... This second iteration answered a couple of questions I had from the first one, but in the process it created a lot more questions! I want answers! And ohh, this movie knows how to make you cringe for them. The music was beautiful, you can really feel different emotions: happiness, joy, and then...the blood, the horror, you can feel that cold in your skin... I'm really happy with the level of animation and sound of this here movie. It was nice seeing the origins of Shiki and how she knew Kokutou. In this movie we could see a VERY different environment than in the first movie, the change was so radical, not only that it is temporarily before the first one, but you are also revealed that there are more than one Shiki... She killed, and she will keep doing it... This time the foe is not other than herself. Seriously, the way they could make you enter in a moment of joy and relaxation and then toss you into a tornado of despair is absolutely amazing. The pacing was more vivid in this iteration compared to the previous one, but still, nothing feels rushed, even with the time leaps you get just the right amount of information to not lose track of the plot. I'm really looking forward to the next movie. Kokutou was really pushing it, eh? jaja. You like the girl, we get it :) Just, try to not get killed. I do understand this movie leaves many unanswered questions, but they will be answered in the future. Don't try to rush things guys, this is going to be a good run! |

A little better than first part, more normal in its own way. What I mean is that murdering plot was better than ghost plot. The story was also better, but I can't find anything I loved about this anime. The art was good but that's it. It was not perfect also as I'have watched it in HD and the art was not sharp enough for me. heh.. two persons in one human... there were times when I was thinking that there is third Shiki that the other two doesn't know about. The first murder looked like traffic accident ;o That part I didn't understand. Also with the murder at that bridge the killer looked different from Shiki... anyway... This Kokutou is also crazy, does he have some victim syndrome? Every normal person would report Shiki to police right away and I can't believe that after all this she is not locked in room without door handles... Also this 2 episodes doesn't make me feel like watching the rest right away... I had higher expectations for this anime.... |

Starting with the vision of this series of films, with this here, any sense there is in history, even if the narrative raises many questions, it gives us a few answers. Much is given intuition and experience, the pace is very slow, almost unnerving, but it is the optimal condition: because in these films, situations, to be well understood, must be tasted slowly. It's been a short time between the publication of the first film and this here, but the graphic quality, it seems to be further improved; ditto for the animations. Nothing bad to say either on the soundtrack, it's always wonderful. The backdrops are superb, you think, that we refer to a film of two thousand and seven, wow! |

Well that was a bigger 'wat' than the first movie. I'm probably not grasping the "deep meaning" or whatever but the episode was pretty dull and pointless. I know this is basically just half of this story, but what can I say - on its own nothing particularly engaging happened. Honestly it feels like it could be half this short, deliver the same amount of plot and possibly even make it a lot more interesting to watch :v Main character is absolutely booooriiiiing, and, while I'm sure Shiki is innocent and he's right to believe in her, from realistic perspective he's acting like a complete dumbass >_> I enjoyed first movie a lot more, maybe because he wasn't around that much in it lol. Go back to comatose state, megane! Well, at the very least I can admit that I liked how atmospheric it was, visuals and soundtrack were on point again. I do hope next movie is better though, and I don't even mean just action-wise... 6/10 |

I enjoyed this much more than the first movie but unfortunately it wasn't that much of an improvement. The focus on Shiki's personality and actions was great, however Kokutou is a bland and uninteresting character as his thoughts were barely explored, which weakened the development of their relationship. This is only part A though, so I'll withhold my judgement for now and hope it improves in part B which is apparently one of the better movies of this series. |

Signifie said: The focus on Shiki's personality and actions was great, however Kokutou is a bland and uninteresting character as his thoughts were barely explored, which weakened the development of their relationship. I think that the only unfortunate thing is that the movie doesn't quite make it clear what Kokutou is thinking by the end. While he most certainly implies it, the novel makes it more clear that what was initially an infatuation on his part became a purposeful desire of wanting to take care of Shiki because he recognizes her loneliness. At the end, he essentially reveals to the audience that his reasoning that he "doesn't know" why he likes her ended up being a lie, since he actually felt sympathetic towards her and cares for her overall predicament; in which those are the main reasons he ended up falling in love with her. He places his faith on Shiki and the sort of kindness she showed towards him, which is something that gets dealt with more in Part B. |
