How could Kallen not understand that the reason her mother stayed as a maid was because she wanted to stay close to her daughter?

Very emotional episode.

All that time, Kallen thought her mother wanted to be close to Kallen's step-father.

And I thought Asuka Langley Soryu had Mommy issues!

We get a little more info on Kallen, and I wonder when, if ever, Kallen realizes Lelouch is Zero.

So I didn't get why Kallen's mom and the other Japanese were drugged up at the end of episode 9. Could someone please explain that to me.

I'm glad Collin learned to show her mother some respect. But i guess, even though she's a revolutionary she's still a teenaged girl

I wonder if Leluch really meant what he said about that poor Japanese vendor. I guess a rich Britanian like Leluch probably doesn't understand how people under oppressive systems sometimes have to put on a face of subordination just to survive.

Lots of oppressed people may put on a show of subservience to their oppressor but truly keep a hart of self-respect and resistance

that ware house apparently also served as a den (a la crack house or opium den) for Refrain users. Kinda a bad idea right? Letting the addicts hang out in the same place where massive amounts of their fix is stored... but anyway. Those Japanese were (probably) there by their own choice and they were high on refrain at the time.

Great episode. One of my favorites especially since Kallen is my favorite character.

I got pretty emotional with her scenes with her mom but even the hot dog scene was sad. When the guy got finished with his beat down he freaked out seeing the Brittanians and went back to work.. gah.. so terrible.

Very emotional episode. I feel sad for Kallen's mother, all she does is try to be there for her daughter, but Kallen didn't realize that until the end of the episode. I actually almost cried at the end. 5/5.

This was great development for Kallen to be sure, but on the other hand, I find her kind of dumb after this episode. She JUST now realized her mother was staying there, putting up with the abuse from the step-mom and even her own daughter for Kallen's sake?

C'mon now.

The biker chase scene was hilarious. The OST was perfect!

Those zebra guys got fucked up by Shizou.

After that - a nice pot party with almost everyone in the anime.

That Aoba guy is planing something. Probably there's gonna be something like Izaya vs Aoba

I fucking love this anime.

It annoyed me that Kallen assumed her mother stuck around for any other reason than to be with her. Her realization to reality was like "come on Kallen" *facepalm* oh well though. at least she, herself, even realized that she was an idiot for that screw up. I LOVED SUZAKU'S CAT COSTUME!

Why is it that the Kallen boob size differs when she wears school uniform and terrorist uniform?
It seems her oppai is bigger on terro.

I was surprised that that maid was her mother, hmm.

"We have to stamp out the Chinese Federation's Kyushu drug route here, understand?" The shameful historical parallels of Britannia's efforts to subdue and dishearten the once proud elevens is probably also lost to the native viewers, dare I say.

Oh dear, the delicious irony.

Really cool little episode. Gave us some backstory and motivation for Kallen. Who was defined enough but certainly not well explained. I caught some serious feels off the ending when she finally realized why her mother had endured abuse so much over the years. Also her outsmarting that police mech was super bad ass. Good episode for Kallen. I also was pretty interested by her and Lelouch is heated exchange. Mainly if Lelouch really believes the callous statement he made. Or maybe was trying to draw attention away from himself being Zero. Either way he had a really bad episode. Besides that little fight, he and Suzaku also engaged in spirited debate about the validity of vigilantism. And while I still agree with Lelouch over him, Suzaku got the upper hand in that argument.

OMG! Kallen is looking so fine in that bed. DAT PANTSU! I want to be in that bed with her.
The look on that maids face just smiling after Kallen said that to her.
Dat OST!
Kallen not getting sleep. Damn it Lelouch.
Milly in that cat costume.
Dat bath.
Dat Milly meow.
LMAO at Rivalz just dropping Suzaku.
Nina?
So the maid is her mom and the stepmother is a bitch.
Lelouch stopping Kallen then Geass-ing those assholes like a boss.
Lelouch and Kallen on a date?
Lelouch ruined the date.
Orange-kun getting triggered by the words "Orange incident."
NIPPON! NIPPON!
Kallen's mom!
So that's why she stayed.
Those tears!

Dat new OP version!

"I don't see how that's any of your business!" Kallen's a bitch >_> Lelouch sleeping through class...that phone fakeout in the third episode...I'm sure she's really confused now.

Doesn't matter if the Black Knights cure cancer; Lelouch/Zero killed Clovis, so Britannia's never going to give them the respect they deserve.

Wow...the maid's Kallen's mother? Explains why her and the stepmother treat her like shit.

Yikes...they're getting suspicious of the whole memory lapse thing being tied to a high school student. What exactly can they do about it, though? Prove he has a magic power?

Kallen being a bitch to her mother came back to bite her in the ass in the end, when she realizes how much her mother cares about her right when it appears to be too late...

Poor Karen, with her drug-addicted maid of a mother.
Opium: coolness factor +1 (11)
3.5+/5 Karen and Lelouch 's lttle speech was funny but not as serious as it thought it was

@Rosny I thought it was a wink to opium, but what was it then if it was something a japanese audience wouldn't get?

Not Japanese I was talking about Britannia and Brits.

The irony was the Chinese Federation being on the other end of the spectrum in Geass universe.

Is there a drug similar to Refrain in the real world? It sounds like a complicated and really dangerous drug. I feel pretty bad for her mother. Although, I'm curious why the hotdog guy and her mother were in that warehouse. I understand they were likely going to replenish their Refrain supply, but do they all just hit it on the spot? It didn't look like anyone was carrying a bag of the drug. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. Also, on a slight aside I thought it was pretty funny seeing Lelouch taking a power nap. Reminds me of this quote from the Batman Wikia page:
Micro Sleep: Batman has mastered the art of power-naps and evolved it into what he calls microsleep. Although these periods of sleep are longer in duration (1 hour), they would be more replenishing and much harder to wake up from. Batman has also been shown to be capable of going over 4 days with no sleep at all.
