THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode was dope, although a bit talky because of the mystery, I kinda liked it mainly because of Sakurako's analysis. And you know shit gets real when she goes into that detective mode.

I can't believe there's another murder (or at least attempted one in this episode). Sakurako's theory about the perpetrator aka Fujika himself and clue with the broken axe made it more thrilling. Interesting to see small glimpses more of Sakurako's past/delusion. I'm guessing pieces by pieces will fit together for the overall story.

So Sakurako saved Fujioka, twice, good stuff, glad he survived for his family's sake. And I guess Hector was her reward. :D There's no doubt we'll be seeing that butterfly car man behind all this again in a future case, he needs to get taken down.

Yeah, I knew he was gonna try to kill himself when they showed the axe. At least sakurako saved him. What bothers me now is that "painter" who appraised the painting, but that probably going to be the next arc.

It definitely simmered down a little when Sakurako said that Fujioka was fine by checking his pulse, while the intensity was at an all-time high when Fujioka was going for his "last smoke". Glad to see how things turned out at the end.

Whoever this mastermind is, it will be even more interesting if he is somehow related to Sakurako's past, as when things get personal, it might just allow Shoutarou to make his impact.

So it was poison after all, was thinking something like that since his health was fine according to the doctor.
But it was clear he wasn't in good health with the we he was coughing.
So something harming him in his direct environment was more likely.

So this series has a villain now. I'm not sure yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Mystery shows seem to like to tie their cases together, but that can make them lose their novelty.

The painting was toxic not cursed.

He was indebt so he tried to kill himself (to collect insurance money I assume) to get this family out of debt, his death would've seems accidental because of the "curse" and history of early deaths in his family.

He doesn't die, they move into an apartment and he gets a new job.

Uninteresting episode aside from being curious about who he got the painting from which was probably the guy with the butterflies.

2/5,atleast this mini arc is over and we can move on to a hopefully better one.

A bit of a disappointing conclusion to this mini-arc, which seemed like it could have been pretty good based on the previous episode. Really, not much here was of interest other than the identity of that guy Fujioka was talking to, who seems to have something to do with those butterflies. Also, what purpose does Shoutarou serve other than looking like Soutarou to help deal with that subplot? He really seems pretty pointless other than that so far.

Well... I had read a lot of discussions of the previous episode so I was not surprised at the deduction of the painting being toxic.
What took me by surprise was the self-suicide attempt :o
~~
No one pointed out what a kind character Utsumi (the ploiceman) is !!
He was stabbed in the abdomen but he piggybacked a person he barely knows to the ambulance fully aware that this might cause his stitches to tear.
Respect to him :]
~~
The man in the illegally parked car seems to be the main antagonist of the series with butterfly in his car dashboard.
~~
It was nice to see all the character getting together for a barbeque, no side characters wasted :)
~~
Shoutarou ~ Soutarou xD
I wonder what Sakurako implied. "Give me some time" - to get used to comparing the similarities between Shoutarou and Sotarou ?
~~
Lastly, Sakurako was giving justice to that hat ! :3

During these two episodes, I was worried for Fujioka. I'm now happy that he's alive.
This episode was very good and thrilling!

Still, I'm glad that Sakurako and co talked some sense into that suicidal idiot and I hope that now he and his family can be happy....Sakurako's analyticall skills are pretty top notch I must say

And yay we got to see Li-chan again :D

Eh.. didn't like that husband's cowardice. Can't really relate or sympathize with anyone wanting to kill themselves over a problem that can be fixed.
Like what his wife said, they can sell the house and start over. Thankfully, he sees to have come out a better person after this experience.

Glad this episode was entertaining. The previous episodes have been waning my interest in the show, but this one caught my attention and left me satisfied. It opened up the show to actually have a main antagonist. But, every time Sakuroko does her gloves thing and the 30 second animation starts it kinda gets on my nerves. Seems a bit much for only handling a painting. I would prefer it if they shortened it or something, and only use it for major stuff like actually examining bones. Anyway, good episode and I am excited for the next ones.

There's gotta be easier ways of killing oneself "accidentally" right? And even if he did succeed he would have left a dangerous painting in the possession of his family (I'd imagine his wife would keep it as a memento maybe). When you think of it that way, it would've been better for him to just leap off a bridge right? He also finds a job before he even recovers from his wound which cheapened the preceding conflict further with how easy it was to get his family back to a stable situation. Maybe he should've considered going for a job hunt before trying to slowly poison himself to death.

I can live with Mary Sue characters to some degree, but so long as their expertise remains restricted to a certain subject. But here we have an osteologist infodumping about goddamn mold from 19th Century paint and arsenic poisoning because why not.

Also the "let's solve the mystery" sequence makes no sense if there aren't bones to look at.

Well, it felt somehow anticlimactic...
I'm not an expert, but aren't there any at least a bit more sufficient ways to carry out a suicide that looks like an accident? Chopping off a leg may be not fatal, also some other ways may be less painful.
At least visuals remain very aesthetic and pleasant (not counting THAT sequence. And I hoped they finally decided to drop it...)
By the way, who is that woman in the post-credit scene?
Hey!

Check Mononoke out!

This episode didn't really do it for me. It was quite underwhelming after the slow-building tension of the last episode, I saw nearly everything coming, and that CGI sequence is unnecessary and annoying.

I hope it gets better.

Bit disappointed that this arc ended with the curse being bullshit, but not too bad overall really.

Also, I think its a BIT too early for a cast assemble but I don't know, maybe one of them will die later on in the series.

Although, will the arc format last to the end of the series or are they going to go back to the episodic structure? I'd prefer the former to happen but what do I know?

+1 to the people getting annoyed by the transformation sequence. It drags on for too long and here it didn't even make sense.

Really love the animation and art of this show, completely disappointed in its execution and plot. It has just been way to episodic thus far and doesn't feel at all like it is going anywhere.

They're going what God Eater with it's slow motion moments or captain Earth with it's mecha transformations, wasting airing time because they won't know what to do with the plot.
I feel exactly the same way but more they were trying for a Gosick like reconstruction of the fragments of chaos that just doesn't work.

So after spewing theories last week, it turned out ALL of them were true: a combination of heavy metal poisoning, fungi, and the 'black painter'. Pretty impressive actually, how we got there, if I may say so myself, especially spotting the mees lines.

It also seems we got our first real antagonist in the 'black painter'. I must admit I'm not to fond of it though, as further confrontations could easily be avoided if sakurako had decided to follow that lead. After all Fujioka just knows his identity.

Two entirely unrelated things:

    1. I'd Always imagined Shouko-san to be much, much older.
    2. I suddenly noticed that all the human skulls in both the OP and the ED are clearly infantile.

That second one is actually quite disturbing, and clearly has something to do with Soutarou (not Shoutarou mind you).

Oh yeah, there's a third point:

WHY would you try to do that with a cleaving axe FFS? Especially those uncommon wide edged cleaving axes, they're just impossible to sharpen. You can cleave with them, evidently, you can smash things with them (like bones), but actually cutting is almost impossible.

That part where the dog was barking, i was like FUCK!!! Something is up!!!
Then they showed a quick flahsback!!!! Seriously how they animated it was AMAZING!!! I felt goosbumps. Thinking that its not over yet!

Then when the mom was crying i was close to break into tears, but then the police officer picked him like and i was DRIPPING!!!! 1st tears this season!

Amazing story and episode! This and the Perfect insider are battling it out to take my No.1 spot this season.

As much as I would like the "lets solve the mystery" montage to stop being used, they probably won't stop using it. It's gotten kind of old and has run its course, but whatever.

It's nice that everyone got their happily ever after in this mini-arc, but now I'm interested in finding out who that strange man is. Also not surprised about Hector living with Sakurako now, seeing as how that was in the opening.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's mainly here to keep teasing and hinting at the eventual explanation we'll get on Sakurako's backstory.

Another good episode to end this mini arc, I loved how it really made me think like yea they solved the problem! The Painting was actually poisoning him, but there was actually more and just wow cant believe that was what the whole thing going on...so stupid for him to think that was a good solution...It also seems we have our antagonist now, cant wait to see how he connects with the rest of the story!
