Lots of information this time. I guess it was more or less true to original but Archer's introduction was done little bit differently in VN as this series is mix of all three routes.

I kinda figured shirou father would be sabers former master.I was surprised to see an actually gun being used before that all we have gotten is magic and sharp objects.Kinda feel bad for caster since she seem to really love her master but shes still a horrible person.I also give props to kuzuki he stood there like a boss when the swords rained down and took some damage and even manage to keep calm and make caster happy before she died .Pfft I would have been screaming like a little girl from all those sword wounds.

For a moment I thought that guy was the master of Lancer, since Lancer is still around somewhere. But he's another archer servant? Don't know if I like that twist, let's see how this continues.

somethings that were said in this episode were pretty inaccurate compared to what happened in fate/zero.

For some reason the feels hit when Caster died...
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric

That Shirou's father was Mother Saber's previous master, was obvious.

So he caused the fire back then. That will give Shirou a lot to think about.

Gilgamesh makes his appearance and wants to marry Mother Saber. No way, you glittering douchebag.

How he finished Caster and the teacher was cool though.

So the super secret servant in pee stained armor is Gilgamesh? I didn't know that before I came here. I'm glad I do now.

5 more episodes to go.... and counting. It's not even so bad it's good at this point. What a waste of a good concept.

Big revelation time. Looks like Emiya sr. was some unscrupulous man before a change of heart, he probably try to redeem himself through the adoption.
What was this destruction of the Grail for? To end all the wars? Some kind of "ksacrifice a few ones to save the majority"?

Gilgamesh is... ugly. Infinite supplies of weapons seem to be the coolest thing around in this universe.
It's weird that the Assassin was counted in the Servants limit.

Why is Medea represented as some kind of elf? o_O "Half-breed"?

3/5 The nice part was the parallel between the adult pair and the heroes one.

Now, if the Master of the Lancer was polite enough to introduce himself? Unless it's the gloomy priest? (looks more like he is with Gilgamesh)

@christoff522 If I understood it right, the Servants won't "die" (they're basically already dead), they will just disappear from reality once the competition/ritual/battle royale will end.
Saber/Aruria is special (absolutely no idea why since I simply watched this series and consulted nothing else) in the kind of Servant she is: she is actually not "dead" but summoned from the Middle-Age, right before she died. Thus, she would indeed "go back" after the events end.
I didn't like the show but I must say in its defense that I can't imagine how messier it would have been if they bother to include even more side informations in the TV series.

Zero is based on a "spin-off" product (a novel) written by yet another person, so you can expect a few incoherencies, I suppose.

Thank you for all that info. I never thought of it like that. So when she gets the grail, she fulfills her wish to go back, but when she goes back she will die.

That makes sense. Thank you! Maybe they assume you've played it but it was SOOO confusing when Kirei said that.

So ... first Assassin died anticlimactically, then Gilgamesh showed out of nowhere to kill Caster and her master, cause she had Rule Breaker. Saber couldn't take her down, how else were they gonna get out of this situation, right?! None the less, this arc was hyped up for a few episodes only to get resolved easily in half an episode by an ass pull. The other half is spend in info dumping us the events of the previous Grail War. Also now apparently Saber has her memories from the previous war, and isn't a complete servant ... what?

As for Caster and the story with her master, it had potential despite being forced and not explained or delved into. I ended up being more invested in that, than Shirou's harem, and his conquest to get a heroic spirit as a waifu.

Anyway, now servants apparently can stay if they drink from the Grail, which got destroyed in the previous war by Kiritsugo, or smt. Saber suddenly can remember and tells everything to Shirou, even tho, she had her memory the whole time apparently. Also I thought servants were just, heroic spirits, gotten from the conciseness of humanity. They aren't the actual people they represent, they don't die, they just go back in their Grail dimension and wait for the next war, or smt. That is what the show was saying all this time. Now out of nowhere there is a 8th servant, and now Saber isn't actually a "complete" servant, recalls her past memory, and will die if she gets the grail, she just wants to die btw. This shit is really convoluted, and contradicts its own premise. Bullshit is made out on the spot, and this death game ain't even fair. For example, Rule Breaker was a thing.

stuff that was skipped from the "porn game": https://lparchive.org/Fatestay-night/Update%2087/

the short version is: before Saber's death on the hill of Camlann in her original life, she made a pact with the world, in exchange for obtaining the grail eventually, she can be summoned as a servant.
now saber is frozen in time at the hill of camlann, since she isn't dead yet, she isn't a complete heroic spirit nor a complete servant, and she won't die before she obtains the grail.

Heroic Spirits are made up of those who actually existed, those only from the legends/myths, and those who never became known about

they are beings that exist in the Throne of Heroes, which exists outside of the world and outside of time, they don't solely exist for the purpose of fighting in the grail war. but rather, the fuyuki grail is just one thing that can summon them into this world, it creates a copy of the heroic spirit in the throne, and summons that copy into one the 7 servant classes, which act as a vessel to contain the heroic spirit's power.
MahoMaho88 said:

she didn't recall it now, she's been hiding the fact that she participated in the previous war because there was no need to mention it, until now.

Shirou looks up to Kiritsugu, while she, having seen how Kiritsugu acted during the previous grail war, had a very different opinion about him. before this episode, mentioning what happened in the past wasn't going to help them in anyway, but was likely to do more harm than good for their relationship
MahoMaho88 said:

no? she wants to obtain the grail so that she can make her own wish come true?

Rule breaker is an anti-magic noble phantasm, it can dispel or destroy magic that it comes into contact with. the object that it pierces will go back to a state before magic was used on it, contracts made with magic (such as the master-servant contract) or beings created with magic will go back to a state before their creation.

there is a limit to what it can do though, it can't destroy a servant or a noble phantasm for example, as for Caster using it to nullify Excalibur, that's just anime-original bullshit, in the VN, she only tries to use it to sever the master-servant contract between shirou and saber
just because it's called "Rule Breaker" doesn't mean you should take the name literally

yes, exactly, there is a reason why a lot of VN readers recommend against watching this anime specifically

FSN VN isn't flawless, but unfortunately a good adaptation for it doesn't exist yet, i personally don't consider ufo's adaptations good either

In the end that teacher saved her and decided to help her out of nothing. The part where he said he's a cold blooded killer need more explanation. Oh well he's dead anyway if he's still alive he will be fired anyway.

I guess the definiton of Archer has been corrupted by Fate.

Kiritsugu objective was to destroy the Holy Grail. To end the Holy Grail War I guess.

It's done on purpose.
You are a fan of the Monogatari Series , so you should already know how Prequels works.

You're meant to watch this before Fate/Zero. That's the point; you're supposed to already know how the ending turns out. Watching Zero first would have spoiled much more for F/SN than F/SN spoils for Zero.

Yep.
Since Zero is a Prequel , it takes elements present in the original story (2006 Anime , UBW & HF) , and makes its "own story" with it.
Since it's intented by the Authors , we can't call that a spoil tho.

HES BACKKKKK
- Wow Saber was able to best Assassin, nice one
- Lmao Gilgamesh really just pulled up and killed Caster and her Master in one move
- Good art this episode
- So, Gilgamesh drank from the grail. Thats awesome. I wonder if thats why the grail "spat him back out"
- So Saber only remembers the 4th war because she "never truly died?" I'm going to assume its because of the scabbard in Shirou

Someway Shirou, and Saber have been connected for a long time, since Saber was the servant of Shirou father. Also an eighth servant appear, and tried to marry Saber in the last war. This is getting better with each episode.

Spanish translation:
De alguna manera, Shirou y Saber han estado conectados durante mucho tiempo, ya que Saber era la servant del padre de Shirou. También aparece un octavo servant que intento casarse con Saber en la última guerra. Esto mejora con cada episodio.
