Finally got to watch this end I'm kinda disappointed that they cut off so many important stuffs, especially Hachiman-sensei's monologues.

This part was probably the one where entire reputation about LoveCome changed from Haganai rip-off from very well made light novel. It's like a huge turning point of the series. They really need to do this one correctly.

Tsurumi Rumi, Yuigahama Yui, Yukinoshita Yukino, Ebina Hina, Kawasaki Saki, Hayama Hayato.

The author really needs to work on his naming skills. ;-)

While there is no proof, volume 7 also provide some information that support that theory greatly.

Humm, not sure, but I think something of the nature of rich Japanese families enters into the picture here. Yukino said that she was thought of as the spare. In this case her older sister would be the one to "take a groom" i.e. sort of like Asuna in SAO, the family would find a suitable male for her to marry who can take over the family, and they would do the whole "adopt him, disown her, marry them" route.

Once this is achieved Yukino would cease to be the "spare" and would then become a means to secure some sort of alliance with another family. Yukino has no interest in "human emotion" because she knows that her emotions won't be considered when it comes time for her to marry. She will become a chess piece.

Hayato would NEVER had aspired to marry Yukino, the class difference is too big (plus his father's career is entirely dependent on Yukino's father's goodwill). They may, and probably were childhood friends, but Hayato would know both his place and Yukino's place. If anything he feels sorry for her, which is why he defended her even though his girlfriend Yumiko (this was implied this episode) was attacking Yukino.

Yukino's fascination with Hachiman is that he honestly doesn't care about social status. For Yukino, given her prospective future, this would have the obvious appeal. He says "screw it all", she wants to say "screw it all".

This is why I hate arranged marriage, especially in animes.I hate it from the bottom of my artic ice heart. It totally ruins the anime for me if it starts bothering me so much.It is one of the reasons why Haganai is a pain to watch most of the times.

Which aspect of it do you hate?
The fact that it acts as an artificial device to get the engaged characters together, thus forming an 'excuse' for romantic development?
Or the fact that arranged marriage completely disregards the engaged characters feelings, thus creating emotional trouble?

I dont mind if they have feelings and they love each other because they met by chance and not enforced/influenced by parents.
Bolded part it bothers me.
What I left un-bolded,the 2nd question usually its the road towards the first question. It creats emotional trouble thus creating an "excuse" for romantic development.I dont hate the characters because they are the victims and usually it's part of the plot,I hate this sort of setup: Pre-arranged fiance vs felt-in-love person(be it girl or boy doesnt matter).

Since I used to play alot of games,I'll explain it better as a comparison.
I dont know how many of you played WoW or a mmorpg where there are private/piratated servers.
Alright,it is like this: You dont play the original with an excuse "because of the fee",yet you pay on private alot of cash to gain advantages over other players on privates. What I'm pointing at is that someone that plays privates and gets gear via cash is seeking privileges, privileges that do not exist on a retail server.
Translated,pre-arranged marriage="because of the fee","because of the fee"/pre-arranged marriage=gain privileges.

For most Japanese, "arranged marriages" are more "arranged meetings", where both parties have the right to accept or reject the other party. In some ways there is actually and advantage over random dating because the parents do what their children to be happy and actually vet the prospective mate for compatibility. So you should think of it more like a girl your best friend introduced you to.

Now of course "happy relationships" don't have much drama or comedy value so animation usually focuses on failed "arrangements" but there are plenty of very successful omiais in Japan.

Transcribing what you wrote Batsu = punishment, bay is not japanese, taka not sure, could be several words, oya = parent, are = there, kore = here, altogether it makes no sense :-)

Oh, and not quite sure I get the Haganai reference. While Pegasus and Kodaka's father joked about an "arranged marriage" no one outside of Pegasus (who has a severe man crush on Kodaka's father - similar to Sena's obsession with Yozora and Kobata) is taking it seriously.

I know what batsu, oya and "are" are,I dont know the linking words like "to","by".What I ment "Punishment by death to the parents that do it."
Since I didnt knew how exactly 'koros" is written I had to replace the words and order.
It isnt just the case of Haganai, but thats the anime came out of my mind.Lately I've been watching everything but that kind of setup.Basically I hate it when the MC is forced to choose someone or meets the girl/boy because someone took care of.
My friend hooked me up many times but I never liked it,I'm the type of person who'd choose personality rather than looks with a fragile personality.I like girls that when I remember them, even thou' they break up, it makes me smile,I dont want to dig into my personal life but I had 5 gf's so far, only one's memory makes me smile.

... it's kinda hard to understand, but I'll try.
So... you're saying, having an arranged marriage means it's much easier(advantage) to win the girl over(pay donations) if you're engaded with her (play on private server),
while if you're not engaged(play on official server), she would be harder for you to get (no advantage) despite putting in about the same amount of effort(paying the fee) that would be sufficient for winning her over in case of pre-arranged engagement?

So you mean the dudes shouldn't take the shortcut that is pre-arranged engagement and do the whole winning-the-girl thing properly.

Well, I can't disagree with you while personally, I don't dislike the engagement thing either...

Maybe you should say what you wanted to express by it in english. I asked someone who's proficient in japanese and he told me he can't get much sense out of that line.
So if you say it in english, someone who knows japanese could tell you the correct way of saying it.

You got a part wrong.I hate this kind of setup.Characters are in fact victims of the plot.
What I ment with those jap words are "Punishment by death to parents that do it!".
Anyway what I wanted to say is I hate the kind of situation/story where the girl is present in his life just because they had an arranged marriage.
Imagine your friend keep bringing the same girl at every meeting hopefully you'll fall for her, while there are girls that would go out with you without hooking up but just talking to them and sharing feelings.Or the same setup but you like someone outside your circle but you're afraid you'll hurt your friend and feel pity for the girl that keeps coming with the hope she'll win you.

Nice episode as always. Very entertaining.
Hiratsuka Senpai is pretty impatient person I suppose. Just 5 minutes Hikigaya did not answer her message & call, she was already impatient about it.
I always wonder is Totsuka a male or female? Because I cannot guessed which gender is he/she. Just look how cute he/she was when he/she was calling Hikigaya & with that brightly smile. And when he/she was sleeping beside Hikigaya, he/she keeps calling Hikigaya's first name.
I sense there is something between Yukinoshita & Hayama. Maybe they were a couple in the past? Or they have been arranged for their marriage with each other? Maybe we will find the answer next episode.

Dammit, I almost read the words up there and some words stood out.

Probably a past thing between Hayama and Yukino.

Oh well, going to wait for episode 8. :D

I'll bet a lot of us can relate to "loner status" and exactly why that young girl was acting the way she was. Of course, Hikki and Yukino already know what it is and it was a great scene when the two groups offered ideas on how to fix it. Kinda wish Hikki would have said what he was thinking.

Also it'll be interesting to see if Yukino was being honest when she said all that was between her and Hayamo was her family dealings and that they went to the same elementary school. I wonder if she has any feelings for him (though that'd be odd, at least from what we know now).

This show continues to be my favorite from the airing ones I'm watching!

Can people honestly develop romantic feelings for other people in elementary school?

I know, I know - some kids get "girlfriend/boyfriends" in elementary school - I myself had a "gf" for about 1.5 days in 2nd grade... but it didn't really count. There was nothing romantic about it - like how a person past puberty would consider it - and it was based around companionship over anything romantic.

Of course, because of that I thought "having a girlfriend is overrated" for most of my middle/high school-teenage years and thus I became what most people call a 'late-bloomer' in terms of romantic experience; I wasn't really interested in the opposite sex (in terms of looking for a gf/getting laid) until I was 17.5-nearly 18. But I digress...

Honestly with the Hayamo/Yukino thing I think it may have been one sided (Yukino has mentioned how popular she was/how boys used to fawn over her) and maybe Hayamo bullied her in the past if she rejected him. Thus, now he feels guilty about it and tries to be a mediator around her to show her how "grown-up" he's become, to try to get into her good graces. That's my thoughts on them.

Though, to be honest with everyone, I am a Yui x Hachiman shipper so if Yukino got paired with Hayamo I wouldn't mind :P
Behold, as a wild ass in the desert, go I forth to my work.

I love this anime. It really seems to bring out all the lone wolves. I noticed a pack of them was milling around here already.
First I hope 8man's personality never changes. I think he is just fine the way he is. Could be because he reminds me of myself in high school...
Second, I don't really care who he gets together with as long as it is not Yui. The gap in their personality types is too wide for them to make a believable couple.
Ironically I was actually eating curry while watching this episode and nearly choked at the loli curry scene.
Finally I don't know if it has been said before but I am just waiting for someone to stare into 8man's eyes and say "I am curious." Not quite sure what it is but Hachiman Hikigaya really reminds me of Houtarou Oreki. So much so that they could be twins seperated at birth.

Oh puh-lease! I'm not quite done with Hyouka, but I can tell at leas this much: Half of Oreki is comprised of being an extremely hard to motivate, lazy dude who hates to stand out. The other half is comprised of him being a complete copy of Tomoya's manner of speech (obviously cause they have the same VA), body movement, eye movement, demeanor and attitude towards strangers.

Hikigaya on the other hand is a self-confident elitist who spends an awful lot of time thinking about himself or criticizing everything around him. He never admits being wrong, and he never puts any effort into anything that doesn't benefit him (He doesn't spend much time thinking about other people's problems. The answers simply pop out in his head, so it's not like there is much effort involved). If it's something that does benefit him, he would go any lengths, even if it means getting on the knees before those he loathes. He doesn't speak up if he's not asked but if he is provoked, he doesn't hold back his spite, ready to move in for the kill. He can fire off tons of depressing facts about himself without actually caring about them. And at least on the outside, he seems to be immune against feminine charme (unless it's comig from a guy...)

The only trait the two of them share is their amazingly advanced deductive ability.

I especially liked the one between Yukino and Hachiman towards the end. It had a nice atmosphere to it.

Of course this isn't ALWAYS the case, but it is an important point.
I guess when you are a loner, you have time to analyze and observe people more. Though I have a couple friends, if they aren't around I just do a lot of people watching.

Overly attached teacher... I'd put a ring on it.

This episode was close to perfection. A healthy dose of comedy that actually made me laugh (particularly the teacher gags and Hachiman's reactions to trap). The sharp banter between Rumi, Hachiman & Yukinon. Everyone at the dinner table bouncing off each other. Hayato being a total heartthrob.

My only complaint was Hina's yaoi outburst. I hate one-dimensional comic-relief characters like her and Chuuni fatman.

Hmmm... not sure what to think of this series so far. It's not bad, per se, but it doesn't feel like anything great either.

I haven't really had many laughs either.. maybe one or so per episode, sometimes not even that. Probably just not my type of humour.

The story is decent enough to keep me interested..
