Mittermeier (no offense to japanese, but german name is spoken Meier and not Meyer :p) Of course, i havent seen much of this series yet, but most admirals in Lohengrams Admirality are likeable... and i dont like at all Yang Wengli and consorts, guess im just generally against Rebels/Terrorists.. ah well |

Oskar von Reuentahl, because he's really kick ass. I've seen every single episode. An entire episode was devoted to killing this man. I think it's even more dramatic than Reinhardt's death. |

I'm disappointed in her lack of screen time or doing anything interesting. She did do some cool piloting, but not much. Personally if I were to pick the most interesting character from the FPA it would be Poplan. This show needs more shenanigans. The Empire has so much more interesting characters. One reason is because Reinhardt's administration is mostly made up of young 'uns who still have a sense of life left in them, however as the series progresses they become more and more scarred by the mass murder. Tanaka is just better, that's all. The FPA has more older men who fought in many of the wars, take Admiral Bucock as the example. and of course the awesome Admiral Merkatz. Being older and more mature, they have less spirit and more awesome old people wisdom. I want to say that the FPA is the old spirit dying off and the new empire is the new spirit, but so many people die on both sides. |

Hmm I would have to say from most to least favorite (not least as in hating) it would have to be: 1. Yang 2. Reinhard 3. Mittermeyer 4. Reuental (Badass AND Norio Wakamoto? WIN) 5. Schenkopp Well I should just flat out say most of our protagonists eh? lol |

At the beginning of the series, Reinhard was my favorite, but then I slowly gravitated toward Yang. I started to enjoy the fact that he has a political philosophy that actually makes sense as opposed to Reinhard's somewhat insane way of doing things. Plus (this is a real spoiler by the way. It will probably kill the series for you if you cilck it) Yang's death ranks among the saddest of all time, imho. I didn't think it would hit me so hard, but wow, I was depressed for hours after watching that episode. When Reinhard died, I shed tears as well, but not nearly as many, nor for as long... So... top 5 would be something like this: 1. Yang Wenli 2. Oskar von Reuenthal 3. Reinhard von Lohengramm 4. Hildegard von Mariendorf 5. Walter von Schennkopp Also, can't help noticing that no one mentioned Kircheis or Annerose... guess that means my dislike of those two isn't limited to myself? :-D |

Been a while since the last time I watched the show but I'd have to rate things like this: Yang Wen-li Dusty Attenborough Olivier Poplan Walter von Schenkopp Siegfried Kircheis Then basically everyone in the Reich tied for 6th, minus Oberstein who I am compelled to hate. Were Kircheis given more screen time, I could easily see him being higher on the list. If I had to choose the greatest mind in LoGH, he would probably be tied with Yang. |

Yang > Reinhard = Oberstein > Reuenthal = Kircheis Equating Reuenthal to Kircheis probably isn't fair since they barely existed simultaneously in screentime but eh. People'll probably hate me for leveling Reinhard and Oberstein too, hehe. |

I'm GOing by Sides Empire 1. Reinhard, a tactical genius, and he gets the coolest looking ship in the Series. 2. Ruentahl, Here we have yet another Tactical Genius, and probably the most well-developed character in the series 3. Kirchies, 4. Oberstien, probably the best "Is he good or evil?" Character in anime, and you have the voice of Kaneto Shiozawa coming out of his moith, pure win! 5. Mittermeyer, I'm surprised as to why I ranked him so low on my list, I guess because it's that even though he was brilliant as an admiral, he just wasn't as cool as the others mentioned Honorable Mention: (In this order) Bittenfeld, Fahrenheit, Annerose, Wahlen, Stienmetz, Mecklinger, Eisenach. Alliance (I was shocked when I learned that these guys were the most Popular in Japan) 1. Yang, what more needs to be said 2. Oliver Poplan: Any scene where he's involved I have to chuckle at, maybe because he reminds me of myself a lot. 3. Dusty Attemborough, It's General Patton meets Jerry Seinfeld, he's a funny guy, but knows when to take things Seriously 4. Walter Von Schenkopp, probably the manliest characters in all of anime, when he and the Rosenritters show up, you knew there would be blood! 5. Julian Mintz, at the start of the series I didn't like him that much, but as the series went along, he sorta grew on me, and seeing as how most of the other alliance characters sorta bored me, i found him to be one of the better ones |

1. Yang - Out of any anime I've seen he's the character I can most relate to. Be it personality wise (yay for slackers), philisophically (it's always nice to see a character, especially in the medium of anime, who doesn't believe that their actions are inherently right and who knows that while they're fighting for their ideals the same can be said for those opposing them), or in terms of ideals ("viva democracy") Yang is a character I can dig. 2. Schenkopp - I'm a sucker for badass manly types and Schenkopp is about as badass manly type as you can get. 3. Reinhard - Unlike Yang I find myself unable to relate to Reinhard much, especially as he rises up the ranks, but he does have some very likeable human qualities despite his having to keep up with appearances. It's also a good thing he had people who could deal with how headstrong he could be around him because Reinhard without some guiding hands could've been quite a reckless force. A very interesting character nonetheless. After those three it's a toss-up between Mittermeyer, Julian, Attenborough, Merkatz, and Reuenthal. |

Being an old man at heart (and pretty soon, in reality), I am partial to the great men whose reputations precede them in the LoGH storyline. My absolute favorite is Wilibald Joachim von Merkatz, who I simply find fascinating. I always hoped for a gaiden episode from his past, perhaps to explain the one upsmanship between Staaden and him that led to this famous sneer: On the other side, Bucock is equally awesome. The fact that the man can make others convulse and temporarily lose vision when he's pissed should be reason enough. Bucock's death is also one of the best done in a series full of well-done, honorable deaths. I shed more than a few manly tears at his final toast -DA |

For me... 1. Oberstein. A true bastard but I love his determination and his way of thinking. I was glad Reinhard finally put his trust in him. I mean, in war you need some bastard if you want to win. 2. Reinhard. To tell the truth, at first I hated him. I mean, he was just awfull with his behavior of spoiled-child... Hopefully since season 2 he became such a great character that I cannot love him. I love how melancolic he is and the tragic of his life. SIEG KAISER REINHARD <3 <3 3. Frederica. Well, it was a difficult choice between her and Reuenthal. But I truly loved Frederica, she's a great female character in this anime full of men. She saved the honor of all women characters in japanese animation. I'm just sad that in the end... she hasn't a lot of screentime because of you-all-know-what TT__TT 4. Reuenthal. One word : BADASS. One name : Norio Wakamoto. <3 5. Mittermeyer. I love his relationship with Reuenthal and his character in general... I think he is actually the only man in the Empire side who seems to be a human being ^^" It's not that I hate the Alliance people, it's just that I don't like them as much as I love the Empire's <3 And I curiously appreciated some "useless" characters like Rupert ^^" |

1) a toss between Reinhard and Oberstein. The first is noble and voiced by Vegeta's seiyuu; Horikawa Ryo-san <3 As for Oberstein, he's a character that you can't help but like despite his "the end justifies the mean" principle. Besides, the final episode totally redeemed everything that I thought was wrong about his character. 2) Yang Wen-Li: a laid-back genious who's also a slob. He was actually the character that I felt I could relate to most XD 3) A toss between Fehrenheit and Bittenfeld: Fehrenheit's gentle nature made him so adorable, while Bittenfeld's enthusiasm was so contagious. 4) Eisenach (did I spell this right?): he doesn't talk much, but I find it fascinating that he had managed to become one of the admirals with his idiosyncratic way of relaying orders. I loved the scene that led him to start ordering one cup of coffee and two cups of coffee. |

It's hard to actually have a favourite character in a series with so many great characters like LOTGH. I would give the titel to Oberstein and Reuenthal, the two misunderstood antiheroes of the series. And there are some other rather strange fellows who won my heart: De Villiers and his mad evil laughter when he decla made me laugh tears. Merkatz, for some reason, never does something, but get's all the credit (I love the scene where he commands the fighters to launch and the enemy commander says: "What an unbelievable strategy. That must be admiral Merkatz" ;-) |

I had trouble choosing mine for this [there are just so many nice characters]. But I'm probably one of the few that doesn't have the Kaiser at all, hehe. It's not that I hated Reinhard, because for a while I absolutely adored his character, but....well. Anyway. 1. Yang Wenli 2. Oskar von Reuental 3. Dusty Attenborough 4. Walter von Schenkopp 5. Paul von Oberstein/Wahlen/Muller/etc. so on. >.> |

1. Yang Wenli 2. Reinhard von Lohengramm 3. Hildegard von Mariendorf 4. Willibald Joachim von Merkatz 5. Walter von Schenkopp 6. Oskar von Reuental 7. Alexander Bucock 8. Siegfried Kircheis 9. Alex Cazellnu 10. Paul von Oberstein I pretty much like everyone in LOGH almost equally. They all have an awesome chemistry between them. Probably it would be easier to make my least favorite list. The top one would be that Julius Ceasar wannabe and in close second Andrew Fork. |

Redoing mine since I've given it more thought after letting the show digest for a much longer period and because I'm planning to rewatch it soon. It should be interesting to see if/how it changes on a second viewing. 1. Yang Wenli 2. Walter von Schenkopp 3. Hildegard von Mariendorf 4. Oskar von Reuenthal 5. Wolfgang Mittermeyer 6. Willibald Joachim von Merkatz 7. Reinhard von Lohengramm 8. Dusty Attenborough 9. Julian Mintz 10. Katerose von Kreutzer |

Bittenfeld. At first he was not the very best admiral the Empire had, but as the series goes he gets a lot better, and in the last three battles he was quite good. In the final battle against Iserlohn he was able to anihilate most of the enemy fleet (defeating Merkatz in the process) and would probably have defeated them easily (in combination with Eisenach) if not for Reinhard feeling pity for Julian and ordering the Imperial Fleet to withdraw (and letting Julian live). The way his troops are loyal to him tells a lot about him. Also, he was along with Reuental the only one with balls to go against Oberstein |

My favorite character is Reinhard von Lohengramm not only from LotGH but from anime in general. LotGH was blessed with an excellent cast and I really liked most of the heroes.... if I had to pick a few other than Reinhard, I'd say Yang, Oberstein, Reuenthal, Schenkopp and Bittenfeld. |

kilmindaro said: Now that you mention it, sometimes it does makes me feel weird to say things like, "I love the Reich" :/ So I'll split my faves into the two main sides to make myself appear like less of a nazi less biased. It's more funny when you realize that allmost all imperial characters have their names deliciously stolen from nazi military commanders. REICH 1. Oberstein. 2. Reuenthal - He's just such a fascinating trainwreck. Tristian/tragic hero, indeed. 3. Mittermeyer - He's just such a good guy. His friendship with Reuenthal, his opposite, was touching. Also he and his wife are very cute, especially when their family gets bigger later on. :D 4. Müller - :3 ... Yeah, I don't know why, either. 5. Hilda - She could beat the crap out of Greenhill any day of the week. 6. Reinhard, Kircheis, and Annerose - Even more than I admire Reinhard and Kircheis' personal hero-qualities, I love these three and their relationships. Annerose is really fascinating, too. 7. The rest of the high admiralty equally (but minus Kempf and Lennenkampf). 8. Anton Ferner - He's basically Oberstein, Jr, but more of a normal person than his superior. I found him and his reflections on the Chief of Staff to be very interesting. 9. Alfred Grillpalzer - I just like his name. Also, he seemed interesting, with his lulzy freak-out over being let into that museum society. I expected him and Knapfstein to become more important, but ... well. Free Planets 1. Yang Wen-li :D He's very likable. I usually only love BAMF heroes, but despite him being a cute dorky pacifist, I liked him a lot because he was truly a hero. 2. Julian Minci - Cute, then badass, and finally a true disciple of Yang Wen-li. 3. Dusty Attemborough - Liked his straight-arrow attitude, and contrast w. Poplan. 4. Walther von Schenkopp - He's just a straight up BAMF. 5. MASHENGO - He saves everyone's ass all the time, yet only Julian ever appreciates him. :'( 6. Poplan - Comic relief, until he gained some depth in the later episodes. 7. Fredrica Greenhill - Low on my list because I expected her to be cool like Hawkeye from FMA or something, but all she did was get Yang whiskey and cower behind Mashengo. :/ But I did think her relationship with Yang was cute, and ironically she got cooler for me after episode 82. 8. Karin - I had high expectations of her after her Samus Aran-like intro, but ... 9. Yang's cat :3 tl;dr I love the whole cast :D |

In recent Viewings I've really become a fan of Wahlen. at first I only like him for him for his voice (I think it was the most unique in the series, sadly his Seiyuu never did anything afterward), but when you look back on him, he wound up being one of my favorites for how brave he was. I mean, He was stabbed through the arm with a poisoned knife, knocked into a coma, had his right arm amputated, survived two direct hits to his ship, got his mechanical arm blown off, survived two firings of the Thor Hammer, AND an ambush from Merkatz, and he still kept his cool! Now that's a tough guy if I ever saw one! That, and how kind he was to Julian was really sweet. I was really happy to see he returned in Spiral Labyrinth, he's one of my favorites. I just wish we could've seen a little more interaction between him and his son... and Yes Mellytan, Mashengo got no respect, especially none from Yang |
