Good to see it quite consistent. Also quite consistent for Little Busters! and To Love-Ru Darkness! Nice 1st week for OreShura! Didn't expect it to sell so well (5781). As expected to see Magi v3 drop so much after v2. Maximum it can have is 6999 1st week (when the full list comes out on Thursday)... just ouch. The DVD drop is even worse than Ao no Exorcist's drops across each subsequent volume. I guess advance live event ticket applications make such a big difference in sales for anime with a significant fujoshi fanbase. 18, *2,256 Teekyuu I wonder how much this show would sell if it was a full length anime, as opposed to only two minutes. I can't say that Teekyuu, considering its style and rapid delivery of jokes, would work as a full length anime. I can say, considering how outrageously funny it was, that it deserves a chance. |

I'm not surprised that Magi 3 sold so little. I heard that many fans were angry at how they changed so many things in the anime. Not to mention, they rushed it like anything. They were doing 4 chapters in one episode... ah well, the manga got a good boost and that's what really matters. I really wonder why A-1 Pictures, the studio which did an amazing job with Uta-Pri, completely butchered Magi. I hope the low sales taught them not to mess with fujoshi. Oreshura v1 close to ~6k BD + DVD combined. But this had an event ticket right? Curious to see how other volumes will do... according to this: http://www27392u.sakura.ne.jp/index2.cgi?smd=title&tn=%89%B4%82%CC%94%DE%8F%97%82%C6%97c%82%C8%82%B6%82%DD%82%AA%8FC%97%85%8F%EA%82%B7%82%AC%82%E9 Volume 2 and so on don't seem to be doing that well. Did it get a good boost in novel sales? |

^not that I recall (regarding the novel sales). But that might change. Concerning Magi, I'm not surprised in the least. That's what you get for failing at adapting such a great manga. The fans are pissed, rightfully so, mind you. Personally I only got the first BD volume because of the limited Sinbad manga coming with it, otherwise I wouldn't give a crap about it. The manga itself is selling splendidly and that's all what counts in my eyes. |

Magi 1&2 had event tickets too I think. Glad to see Little Busters holding up well, didn't drop much from volume two. Ahead of Chuunibyou in BD and close overall. Oreshura doing better than I'd expected. Still not great but I was expecting under 3000 and it did quite a bit better. Will have to wait for the top 100 to see if any of my other favorites ranked : Sukitte ii na yo 3, Kokoro Connect Kako Random, Tonari no Kaibutsu kun 4, Sakurasou no Petto na kanojo 2. Glad to see the latter two in the DVD rankings as least. My poor Sukitte probably won't rank again... Teekyuu is based upon 14-16 page manga chapters so I don't think 23 minutes would work. I preferred the original Sakurasou OP and ED but good to see them selling anyways. Good to see LoveLive! CDS doing well. Looking forward to the next one, Korekarano Someday / Wonder Zone! |

SAO is very consistent, obvious from its very firm fan-base. I'm not really liking it though, anime was truly the worst form of adaptation for much superior novel one. Understandable, but my heart won't take its success. GirlPan and Jojo getting top sales spot is always fine, however. |

Cause of the LN fanbase is loyal to the series. As for Magi despite the animation is it really that badly butchered? I'm the kind of person who don't read the manga until after the anime is complete. A-1 did have some amazing series like AnoHana, Tsuritama, Working!!, and UtaPri. I did like SAO, Kuroshitsuji (first season only), and Ao no Exorcist even if A-1 did make them mostly filler personally as long as it is interesting I don't really mind although I'm left with "What could have been if they would have followed the series loyally". The worst adaption to leave their ass was Togainu no Chi cause its a yaoi VN and when they adapted it for TV there wasn't even any yaoi much less BL. ~_~ |

Mecasonic said: Well, it did get a boost in novel sales. It went from 400k copies in circulation (averaging 80k copies per volume) at the time of the anime announcement to 700k copies in circulation (averaging 100k copies per volume) right now. The volumes released in the last two months seem to have sold better than the previous volumes in Oricon's weekly rankings, although those previous volumes sales were split between a regular edition and a special edition with some extra stuff bundled (IIRC) so they dropped off the rankings faster. While we didn't see any of the previous volumes ranking in the Oricon's weekly rankings (like we did for Mondaiji) they did rank in Osakaya's weekly rankings which is typically indicative of a boost in sales. Now, whether this boost in sales can be considered good enough or not will depend on the publisher. For reference, the other two light novels from that publisher that had an anime adaptation, Nyaruko and Oda Nobuna, both reached 1 millions copies in circulation with an average of 111k copies per volume while their respective anime was airing; they were respectively at 550k copies in circulation (average of 78k copies per volume) and 600k copies (average of 85k copies per volume) before it. hmm. thanks for the detailed info. Much appreciated. So while it got a boost it wasn't that much of a boost, I think. so it depends on the publisher... I'm interested to see how volume 2 will rank. |

Key observations: - The very good sales number for KuroBas revives the talk about whether KuroBas is going to keep the TOP FOUR BESTSELLER SERIES honor of 2012 and what is the chance of GirlPan overtaking it to snatch the slot. - Despite concern about the sales for its subsequent volumes, the better than expected sales of OreShura v1 starts off the Winter season sales with a good start. The first week sales number is >40% better than the Amazon Stalker prediction, which is more than a lot of people thought. If we follow the same adjustment, we would get first week number of >13k for LoveLive, >9k for ViviPan and 8.5k for Hagani2. And conventional wisdom puts all these 3 series to have an even stronger storefront sales model than OreShura, meaning potentially the underestimation by Amazon Stalker could be even more. This would mean that, like I predicted earlier, we may have 2 titles this season that will have >10k for vol.1 sales, which is not really anything great but at least it is better than the worst scenario (nothing over 10k even for vol.1) many have feared. - So far it is getting almost certain that for the TOP FOUR BESTSELLER SERIES in 2013 Winter Season, LoveLive, ViviPan and Haganai2 will get three slots. The remaining slot is tricky to predict. Once MaoYuu seemed to have a very strong claim, but its star has waned a lot since more than a month ago. Currently the strongest contenders include: * OreShura - it all depends on how it sells from vol.2 onwards. Currently Amazon Stalker predicts <2k for vol.2 (BD+DVD) but if it underestimates by the same extent as vol.1 it will have 3k which may be already enough to lay a claim for Top Four Bestseller Series of the Season -- it is really this sad. * MaoYuu - Stalker projects 3.7k for BD (DVD is <600) * Yama no Susume - Stalker projects 3.8k for BD. Since this is just one volume, it has an advantage in terms of series average. It all depends on whether we allow Top Four to include short anime. * Minamke4 - Stalker projects 3.2k for BD (DVD is <600) * Tamako Market - Stalker projects 2.8k for BD (DVD is <600) |
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

Same director.Haven't heard of Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki until now, I think I'll give this one a look. Haven't heard of the prior, but I do know about the latter. I heard he did a great job on Summer Wars (something I've been meaning to get to for a while). |

But it had a bad start so it may be "too little too late", but considering it was on track for total failure initially, it is doing better than expected. It could have decent sales, at least by the low standard of sales we're seeing this season anyway. Similar to OreShura (and K last season), I think the early release will screw up the projection and make it sell better than expected. I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell 4-5k. |

Vol.1 costs just around 6000 yen which becomes 4500 yen in Amazon and it contains THREE episodes instead of the usual two in most BDs. And this is not just its vol.1 I guess that's something at least, wondering how GJ Bu will do. I'm sure there are enough people who'd buy "that type" of anime, I guess they were just put off by the changes made to SnI sadly. From the official twitter, it is disclosed that they put in a lot of effort in cost control, particularly over what extra they think fans will want most (since the stories in the anime never show any outdoor activities following the season, so they create BD cover design based on the four seasons) and the cost of the physical package (for example, the big enclosure box is in color but the inside component is in black and white) Who knows, it may even get enough follow-up sales to lay a claim to Top Four Bestseller of the Season. |

Personally I welcome any pricing experiment that does not radically hit the production's bottom line because any innovation in packaging/pricing that allows package to be sold at lower price and yet allows studio and production to make money will be a win-win situation for everyone. The question at the end is how much the cost reduction effort has lowered the breakeven line for the anime production.I always wonder how they make these decisions. Lower price don't necessarily mean higher unit sales, and even if it does they have to be increased enough to offset the lower ¥/ep revenue. I mean selling 5,000 average over 4 discs (20,000 units) at ¥6,090 MSRP aka ¥2,030/ep (¥122m) loses out to selling even 3,000 average over 6 discs (18,000 units) at ¥7,140 MSRP aka ¥3,750/ep (¥129m). And yet most fans will assume the 5k seller was the obvious winner. This is why people who think the super expensive model we usually see in the anime industry is so irrational tend to be wrong. (Granted even ¥6,090*4 is a lot of money, but not nearly as much as the alternative.) And of course inspired by this news, fans in Japan are now doing another bout of attacking Kadokawa for its notorious "Kadokawa Price". |

Ore Shura sold better than I expected, but vol 1 has an event ticket so it will be interesting to see how much it falls next volume. Can't help but think this show aired at a bad time though. Airing right after Chuunibyou ended when the two shows overlap ( With OreShura doing a weak job in comparison to Chuunibyou when it comes to depicting character delusions ) must have lost them potential sales. Speaking of Chuunibyou, I hope it and Hyouka got a second week. Will have to wait for the thursday list. |

And Z-flame made it worse by quoting the DVD number as the Blu-ray number. In fact: BD 14, *4,521 *4,521 Blood-C: The Last Dark Limited Edition DVD 14, 1,362 *,**1,362 Blood-C: The Last Dark The total is actually 5,883. Not overly great, but much better than 1362 and actually it is better than some had previously expected (particularly given the bad feedback by fans for the TV series). And its OP CD sold A LOT (well, it's by Mizuki Nana, so...) |

Dark stuff can sell, but Blood-C was not generally seen as one of the better examples of such... genre and story elements don't always dictate sales. Those kinds of anime don't sell. The last Blood anime sold like crap. What dark/gory anime in the last couple years have actually sold though? Only thing I can think of that put up respectable numbers is Psycho Pass... a lot of the gory stuff the West likes typically sells very little, like Blood-C, Deadman Wonderland, Btoom, Mirai Nikki, etc. Its a culture difference that America just likes violence and gore more than Japan. Its not even anime alone, video games also focus a lot less on violence since thats not what sells over there like it does here. |
