----------------------------------------

I LOVE THE STORYLINE! Things like StarWars always I liked but now this! MASTERPIECE OF SPACE FIGHTS 2008! The Graphics are amazing! The fighting is AMAZING! The characters and MONARCHY ARE GREAT!

ON TO THE HIGHLIGHTS SO ALL MAY SEE!

BREATH TAKING SCENERY AND SHIPS!

BLOWING FIGHTS THAT ASTONISHED ME. I LOVE THIS STUFF AMONG OTHERS!

A PRINCESS AND BIG TRAP TROUBLES!

OK HERE IS SOME EXPLANATION: See here this cannon firing........in fact it is a SELF-DESTRUCT CANNON that fires ANTI-MATTER suction beams. Upon doing so the cannon self-destroys and the effect is similar to MACROSS FRONTIER Fold Quartz Reaction Missiles.

I had huge expectations for this, so I'm somewhat...underwhelmed by it all. Unfortunately LOGH's shadow hangs all around this production, and this will bring about heavy comparisons, which'll be all the worse for Tytania.

That said, it shows potential, and I like Fan Hulic already :D.

I totally agree!
Only with this first episode, I couldn't help but think that Idris Tytania = Reinhard and Fan Hulic = Yang. XD

Even the opening is somehow similar... I hope it will be as interesting as LOGH. :)

Good episode. Animation is not as bad as I initially judged from the trailer material. Now for the next episodes to unwrap the main plot...

Liked the episode.

Havent had a good space Opera in a while (well I guess Glass Fleet kind of counts)

That Princess was pretty moe too... though the best part by far is the ED by Psychic Lover, love those guys.

Loved the episode, thought it was a good way to open the whole anime up :3
The animation in the whole show is just *_*, and I love the battle scenes. And lol the Tytania characters intrigue me, especially Idris. Can't wait for the next episode, hopefully it'll be great too :3

Agree with you Mariem (as usual ;)). But it's not really a bad thing that Tytania ressembles the (for me) best anime of all time ! I'm still expecting much more than what I saw in this first episode, but it should be good I think. I'm still hoping for a "© Legend of the Galactic Heroes 2008"!

Best op theme of the season...maybe the year...maybe ever. Everything else was good but underwhelming. Fan Hulic is like a simpler Yang Wenli, but that could easily change...totally agree that LoGH's shadow looms over this like Batman over Joker.

Great start to what should be a great series. The narrator being female really threw me off since I'm so used to the guy from LoGH. Also, while the animation wasn't anything to write home about the art was quite good except for a few QUALITY frames. I'm also liking the fact that, while there are shadows of LoGH characters, the characters in this aren't just carbon copies. Jouslain looks the most interesting on the Tytania side and Fan has some foppery and whim going on. Not the most complicated strategy from him there, but then again when you figure he managed to catch a good part of an enemy fleet solely by sacrificing unmanned ships and volatile, otherwise unusable weaponry you have to give him some credit.

Schnitzel!

I'll definitely hold onto this, I rather enjoyed it for never seeing LoGH. The first half was a little slow, but once you get like 10 minutes in, it blows up in your face. I was pretty happy with the characters, espiecially on the Tytania side (Idris and Juslan in particular) not to mention Fon. As Absolutely_Steve said, you've gotta give him some credit to come up with a ploy/strategy like that when against an enemy that everyone else is more rather fearful of. I mean, that takes balls(Or a couple ounces of Kamina-Level stupidity).

The OP was pretty nice too, it definitely sets the 'space opera' theme of the show, haha.

I'm happy with the initial results, but I think it's too early to say this is LOGH all over again.

For better or for worse, this is a different story, even though we can see a lot of similarities, and a different project, even if a lot of the same staff is working on it.

I'm hoping later episodes flesh out the characters and the universe, as expected, before assuming too much about them or the overall plot, one way or the other.

Even though the strategy used here was a little sudden and more of a tactical surprise than anything else, I suppose it worked out alright.

The sad thing about this show is that the story is fine, but it can't help the fact that the animation looks like crap. I'm not sure if anyone else notices, but when those cannons exploded, every explosion was a copy/paste job. There were instances of similar (but not as blatant) lazy animation throughout the episode. That being said, the OP was nice, the ED was a bit out of place imo, the plot seemed fairly good, but all in all, this show pales in comparison to the classic space operas that this show is ripping off :-\

I had no idea what this was before I started watching it. I just happened to stumble across it. I didn't know if I even wanted to bother at first but decided to give it a shot. I wasn't even half way through the op when I starting thinking this is LoGH. Hell, even the sub par animation reminded me of LoGH.

Now, being similar to LoGH isn't a bad thing but its going to be hard for me to not compare the two and thus potentially not enjoy this anime as much as I would otherwise. If you haven't seen LoGH, watching this will probably be a real treat.

Decided to watch it again when I was a bit more awake this time and realized I didn't even touch on the best aspect, the plot, in my other post. Even though the narrator says that humanity is governed by Tytania I have to wonder just how deep their power runs both politically and as a feared military based organization. Given the amount of nations they have conquered and how even the ruler of the largest empire in the galaxy is powerless against them I'm guessing that them governing the galaxy is not an understatement. Although I also have to wonder how Euria fits into things. Are they just another planet, which wouldn't be surprising given they clearly didn't want to face Tytania in a numbers battle, or are they something bigger such as a group of planets/nations that are banding together in opposition of the Vardana Empire and Tytania (a Free Planets Alliance if you will)? I'm guessing those questions will be cleared up pretty quickly considering this was a lot of introduction, but very quick paced, well done introduction.

It should also be quite interesting to see, should some misfortune befall Gandalf Tytania (because I forgot his real name), how the rest of the Tytania clan will react. At the moment the other four are willing to fall in line behind him, but if he were gone one has to wonder if their political aspirations would cause a conflict between them. Big Tytania (again, forgot the name) seems too thickheaded to do anything except follow and Aribart seems to be fabulous useless, but Idris seems to have a good grasp on both the military and political situation, as does Jouslain. The difference between the two, is that Idris seems like one to lust for power whereas Jouslain seems to be much more of a thinker and someone who would constantly be struggling with what the consequences of his actions would be like Yang.

Anyway, just thought I would bring up those points since talking about the animation of a series in which it's not really important every post seemed kind of dumb.

Finally got around to watch it.

First of all I should probably mention that I love Legend of the Galactic Heroes (gave it a 10 and it's on my favs), therefore because this is from the same studio, same director and same author, you can't help but compare them.

If this weren't the case I would probably say: "Well, this is quite nice."
But since it is the case you have to see this with different eyes.

My first impression was: Compared to Legend of the Galactic Heroes - this is a joke.
But then again it's quite unfair to compare 1 episode with 110.

There are really quite a few similarities. The OP, the powerful oppressive side with its royal people and the young always happy cool rebel guy on the other side (though judging from the first episode this guy can't keep up with great Yang Wenli) and the ED (which is actually very awesome) showing the other faction.

The biggest problem for me is the colorful look of the ships and everything else (come on, those 5 lords looked like power rangers ........). I mean maybe that's the present taste of younger people but I prefer the darker and more mature atmosphere of LotGH . Moreover we didn't see any blood after shooting the guy. I don't really care much about this point but LotGH showed quite a few realistic fights where you could see the bloody brutality of war (ok it was an OVA - this is a TV series).

Well, it was only one episode and I think ep1 of LotGH didn't show much of its later potential, neither. So we really can't judge it by this. Since it's from the same guys we can expect an awesome story, lot's of plot twists, political plays, great character interactions with love/hate/betrayal and epic space battles.

To conclude: If you think this was amazing, go watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
If you think this wasn't so good or too colourful and childish, go watch LotGH.
The animation may be old and will scare most people but you won't mind it after a few episodes. Everything else will blow you away so much that you don't really care about it (and the art isn't really bad - just old). So this is a good moment to to tell people what they will miss if they never watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. 110 episodes of mature epicness. Yes, this is the only time the use of the word "epic" anime is truly right.

To come back to Tytania:
I think it was quite good and the space battle was very nice. I expect something great from this and will happily continue to watch. But it has to bear a great name and that will be hard on it (at least when people who have seen LotGH watch it).

Regarding that ending song...what the hell were they thinking???

EDIT: If there is someone who hasn't seen LoGH yet and is looking for some more comparisons between the two series -- I can confidently predict that Tytania in its entirety will not even come close to being as good as just the first episode of LoGH. No exaggeration.

When I originally looked through the animes for this season, I had absolutely no interest in watching this. However, boredom can lead to alot of things; I just happened to see that the first ep was subbed, so I decided to try it out. And I might actually pick this up, to replace Casshern Sins (which I heard was aweful, thus didn't even start). The characters and story haven't had much of a chance to show themselves, but I was impressed at how realistic the space battles were (the ships handled like real spaceships). The ships' designs are oddly steampunk on the outside, while real high-tech on the inside. The Glass Palace reminded me of the emperor's 'portable palace' from Dune.

But opera OP sucked.

We can already see some of the contrasting opinions on this 1st episode thread alone, you can really see who has a taste for the classics and who's accostumed to the standards of the current anime industry.

As comparisons are inevitable, I must say LoGH is an anime I must watch, but the sheer amount of episodes makes me put it off for the time being.

I completely agree with naikou's expectancy for better military strategies. The dummy assault ships and the secret weapon aspect were lame. Why such a powerful weapon was never used in battle before just because it isn't stable? It's not like no ever one thought of auto-firing them like Hulic did, the only excuse they can come up is that it's expensive to build, but I'd guess at the current state, many countries would be willing to pay the price if it meant the ability to stand up to a Tytanian attack.

There are many shows out there that are pretty but have nothing else going for them. A show like Tytania doesn't get a huge budget, so I'm not expecting much from the animation. Hopefully it will have something that few shows manage, good plot. It seems like it by the look of this first episode. I'm hoping for some conflict in the Tytania clan. >)

Well, you heard wrong. Of course opinions can differ, for those who like darker shows SINS is a cyberpunk dystopia masterpiece and tragic story. Those who like lighter shows - of course they won't like the basic premise of post-world-end setting, but even those will notice a great job done in animation and music.

If you can, watch both, because even if I was waiting for Tytania ever since its announcement (considering its kind of, LOGH successor), Casshern SINS was a total sleeper hit for me.

I started watching this without knowing anything about it, except its a space opera. I have to say I found it as mediocre as possible. Not bad, just nothing happened that makes me care about the next 25 eps. The battle was cool, the graphics are nice, but the physics of the ships maneuvering looked terrible.

I kinda hoped this will give me a bit Kiddy Grade feeling, but that only happened in the first few minutes. Too bad. I miss you KG, I miss you so much! *cry* Please don't slap me!

I think the start of this series was decent. Its hard to make an episode about character introduction mind blowingly amazing but I think it did this pretty well. The gave us some action as well as some characters I want to find more about. Juslan and Idris in particular look interesting. I think Ariabart(or however you spell his name, will die as well as the guy in white. But from here I feel safer to say that I want to see how this plays out in the next 2 or 3 episodes.

I think everyone needs to realize that this might need a little time to grow on you. Just as I suspect may have been the case with LOGH for some viewers. I'm not saying I didn't like the episode or anything, but it's just hard to really judge until a handful of episodes are out because it'll probably also mainly be dialogue heavy, focusing mainly on characters, etc, so time is needed. If the quality sticks, I can definitely see this becoming a new favorite. Might even be competition for Terra e in terms of modern space drama's.

And for everyone who hasn't watched LOGH or whatever, you really need to get on that ... ;)

So far, I can already see myself quickly becoming a fan of ... well, Fan! He seems most comparable to Yang Wenli from LOGH judging by this first episode. Carefree, but brilliant, etc. He seems a bit goofier though.
