Fuck yeah no Kubo.
Good to see Togashi there.

And Gin no Saji is 8? Huh?
It's been out for less than a year only. I mean sure it's great and all but to rank high with only 20+ chapters is a bit weird.
Oh well.

This is not really a 'Best manga (author)' of the year, but rather a 'Which manga is the most popular?' survey. I agree that there are some good titles on it, but most of it is just on there because it's popular, especially One Piece and the author of Naruto.

The top really does read like a popularity contest. I prefer the Kono Manga ga Sugoi lists, which are also survey based. However, popularity isn't the biggest factor. Like this was #1 female-oriented manga. Nishi Keiko's manga came in at 4, not her coming in at 19, etc :-p The lists are full of manga that aren't best sellers, but people have high opinions of them.

I don't like how it's always divided into male and female categories. Why can't it just be "best manga author" regardless of gender? It's not like the gender of the mangaka will always affect the genre so what's the point?

Anyway, excuse me while I add a ton of manga to my plan to read list.

Manga-God Takehiko Inoue is only second place? D: Oh nose... well, can't beat the OP-fanboys, even with great masterpieces such as Vagabond and REAL, I guess.
Actually, I'm surprised he even placed so high, considering his two most recent works are both seinen-mangas. I'm really happy he placed this good, I love his works, he's amazing. :D

Ok, now for real, I'm seriously surprised Arakawa Hiromu only placed second in the female category. Or people slowly begin to forget about how great Fullmetal Alchemist was, because it's finished for about a year and a half now. Umino Chikas works are great, no question, but it's still surprising she manages to beat the mastermind behind one of the gretest recent action-shounen-mangas. Umino Chika doesn't draw shoujo or shounen, that's why I'm surprised she managed to place above Arakawa Hiromu, who has drawn a super-pupular shounen. It's not about qualitiy, because I believe both Manga-ka are great, it's about yosei beats shounen. xD

@&#$...... Arakawa was just one step away for being the best of the female author. Oh well, second is is good enough.

One thing I don't understand is probably how highly One Pice is regarded. From my experiance, it's no different from the other two mainstreams.

Poll is seriously biased, considering how under the sea arc in One Piece was one of the worst in One Piece so far. Compared to it, Naruto's current arc, 4th Shinobi war is a lot better.

But oh well, I'm somehow pleased with the polls, at least for mangas. Natsume, FMA, Kimi ni Todoke, Hunter x Hunter, Bakuman.. All good mangas. :)

No surprise that Oda is so high. He is after all the best Shonen Battle Manga writer out there together with Arakawa and Togashi.

Inoue and Naoki have to be on every best authors list because they simple are.

I’m a little bit surprised that Sorachi is so high. He is one of the best Comedy Manga writer but never thought he would be so high

Akimoto gets the Kochikame bonus. Kochikame is after all the Simpsons of Japan.

Really surprised that Toriyama is even on the list. He didn’t publish something in a long time. However he gets the respect he deserves for reinventing a genre.

I’m honestly surprised that Usuta is respected this much. He just did a short Manga series in WSJ. For him to be respected this much it must have been funny as hell. Would really like to read it now.

Kishimoto might be after Usuta the biggest surprise. He really didn’t produce anything worth mentioning after the first hundred chapters. For him to make the list for “best” writers is really surprising for me. For me he is since a long time only mediocre but I might be the wrong in here.

From the rest of what I have read they are all really good writers. I’m a little sad that the male author list is so Shonen heavy. I can think of a dozen Seinen authors that would deserve to be on such a list.

About the female authors I can’t say much. I have read a few of their Manga but not enough to say how accurate the list is.

All the Manga on the best Manga list are excellent. Nothing much more to say.

whats with the hate towards some authors in here
If your going to complain that Yu-Gi-Oh! Mangas are on the top NY times manga best sellers, you must not realize how popular Card games are(as well as the fact that you get a free card).

This is a surprisingly solid list. The top 6 in the male category are all absolutely excellent mangaka.

There are quite a few in the female category that I don't know, but everyone I recognise is wonderful.
