Fuck the value of the Yen.

Looks like I'll be waiting to see what price Aniplex USA will be selling it at.

I wish I could spend that amount on a Blu-ray box set. Sadly, I'm not that hardcore of a fan, so I'd be blaming myself for a long time if I actually bought it.

That's why I hoped that a certain politician became minister in Japan, Kan or his rival, I don't remember exactly, only that one of them was thinking well by lowering the values of the yen... Anyhow.

Damn, 525 dollars. That really is sick.

I was reading this and somehow I missed the price. I was thinking that I might actually buy it. Then I saw the price. I wouldn't pay that much even if I suddenly won a million.

Hmmm, uncut makes it sound interesting, I am always fond of things that are never included and are special additions to something, however if i had 500$ lying around i am sure i could find a better use for it. But props to the hardcore fans who are devoted enough to buy this

3000yen per episode? For a 25 episode anime that's even somewhat expensive for japan. Guess because it's all "quality" and stuff? Heh...

Well, if you think about Madoka Magica (6 Volumes à 7,350¥) which was ~44,000¥ for 13 episodes, I think the price is quite reasonable. And this was not a Blu-Ray Box of awesome, you know?

But of course for people outside of Japan that sounds somewhat hard to afford. They also have very pricey movie tickets compared to the US/EU, that's why I ask you to compare the price with recent series (like Madoka Magica above) rather than juding by the price in US-Dollar. Having said that, I'll probably wait for a local release as well.

as for the extra clip written by Nasu Kinoko (Give us Mahoutsukai already)

Not really, this is the equivalent of 9 discs at ~¥8800 MSRP each for two cour, assuming the second box is the same price, as seems likely. Maybe a couple hundred yen more per disc than I would have expected, at the absolute most.

So this costs about the same as any other two cour anime aimed at otaku. It just sounds more expensive because you're buying it in two parts rather than 8-13.

Don't worry, I did the math. It is somewhat expensive. Most shows like this have episode-prices of 2200-2600 Yen. Nichijou is a lot more expensive, but that's a weird exception. Stuff like Hanasaku Iroha or K-On had ~2600yen per episode. It's not by a whole lot, but it is a bit expensive.
Of course that doesn't include any "extras" yet. Does the boxset have as much extras as 4-5 discs would have?

It's actually a reasonable price in Japan. They tend to mark down the price of DVD/BDs if it gets released in the west, probably because no one here would touch it with that kind of price tag.

For example, Kara no Kyōkai had a price tag in Yen equivalent to $450 USD and it still rapidly sold out when it was released.

If it is 13 episodes, having a slightly higher price than average is somewhat reasonable, since the first episode was double length.

KnK's length was equal to 22 or 23 episodes of regular anime though.

Seeing as how it comes to about the same price as most other two cour Japanese anime BD releases, and is cheaper than some I've bought, uh... the same people who already import plenty of other shows? Like myself. And probably 30,000+ Japanese fans.

This set is by no means "cheap" (I'd never try to claim importing anime was anything of the sort), but as someone who regularly buys Japanese anime BDs it's nothing that makes me do a double-take. I'm paying about the same amount, except in 2 purchases rather than 8 to 13. If I like the show enough to import, the price will not be an obstacle at all.
i respect that, and i understand it's not out-of-water ridiculous pricing by any means. but personally, i could never like an anime (or any tv show ) enough to justify $525 spent on it.

I've never bought anime before but I was going to make an exception for Fate/Zero. I knew it was going to be a lot, but it had best be much cheaper for its American release. I'm hesitant to even pay 100$. Guess I'll probably end up buying a normal dvd set.

I'd pay$100 for it even if it was only subbed.

$525....then shipping and taxes? Not a chance.

Things that $525 will buy.

Car payment.
Months rent. (depending on where you live of course)
Gas and groceries for a month.
10 anime box sets instead of 1.
A PS3, 360 as well as a Wii. (used of course)
About 9 latest release current generation games.

Any one of those for half....HALF a series and a couple little bonuses. I'm sorry, buying that doesn't make you more of a fan than anyone else. It means you either A) have a lot of spare income with little sense or B) really bad priorities.

I really hate the current OST policy of Aniplex. The OSTs of nearly all their current animes, are only bundled with the Blu-Ray Releases and not released as stand-alone OSTs. As a collector of anime OSTs, I am really annoyed, especially because I would buy the Madoka or Fate/Zero OSTs if they would be released seperately.

I'm shocked every time I see it regardless, but then again I'm a jobless broke college student. I'd have to sacrifice a lot to spend this much money on anime. The fact they can get away with this in Japan and the devotion of fans amazes me.

To be fair, the price quoted in the OP is the suggested retail price, which is rarely what it's actually sold at; some places are already setting up pre-orders for them at 20-30% off:

http://ichiba.nicovideo.jp/item/azB005ZOPANI

¥29,526 is roughly ~$390 USD. That's still a lot by NA standards, but there you go.

Edit: Apparently, Fate/Zero is now the top most pre-ordered DVD/BD on Amazon.jp.
