Anime fans confuse me. Incest is alright, pedophilia is fine, yuri is awesome, but when two little boys hold hands, people get into such a tizzy and cry "get the gay away, it's all in my face."

If Nezumi were a girl holding Shion's hand, then no one would think anything of this. Truly sad to see some of the reactions to this anime.

Pedophilia is only fine if its for laughs or cheap fanservice, and occasionally romance that doesn't even try to point out the problems with it. Have you seen the backslash against Kodomo no Jikan (psychological drama) and Dance in the Vampire Bund (where the entire point was Mina's existence being screwed up?)? The first only got popular after it went nuts with the sexuality.

But yeah, that's possibly what annoys me most about this entire drama fest: the double standards.

Its not that I hate it, its just that it doesn't really interest me.

Episode was okay, I liked the Opening.

I haven't read/seen Dance in the Vampire Bund, but I did keep up with Kodomo no Jikan for a while. I have to admit I don't have much respect for that series and the way its executed, but I'd be much more at ease if pedophilia were examined seriously in the case of a psychological series such as KnJ (or even Loveless), instead of desensitized for cheap laughs.

Just an opinion mate. We didn't say it was wrong, just that it wasn't for us.
There shouldn't be an issue with that.

I watched the uncensored version and barely even noticed the "fanservice". I'm sure slapping bear stickers - or whatever they did - over each risque bit of skin did nothing more than act as a huge uncomfortable 'look at me! you're supposed to get excited here!'. I didn't find the series particularly funny either, heh.

You can only speak for yourself, and while you may be saying it isn't wrong, many people here are. They are implying that there is something sexual going on between these two kids, and that anything beyond that is gross or somehow off-putting.

On a side note, I do have an issue with people saying a "gay" series isn't for them, since the concept of labeling a series as "gay" -- or "shounen-ai" -- just doesn't make sense to me. "Hetero" as a genre would just look silly, no? In the anime community, at least, "shounen-ai" seems to be more of a warning for people rather than a category.

Ha, yeah, I read over 40 chapters of it, and it seemed to me that the series was trying to retain some sort of credibility by pandering to two crowds -- the creepy side that would find scenes like a 9-year-old girl masturbating as hot, and the analytical side that would take note of the traumatic circumstances of her past and such.

It does seem to have a bit of Yaoi, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to make you drop this anime. Seems like it stands a chance at having a good story.

I wonder if this is just a flashback of when they were kids 'cause I haven't seen any of them in the OP/ED (at least I think so).

Not really sure what to think of this one. i like the OP, I can't help but wonder why Shion's hair isn't white like the promo pics? maybe that will soon change. Anyway, I'll have to wait till the next episode to give a better opinion.

Hrm, I like it. A friend of mine actually told me about it and I was hooked by the theme song. I personally thought the possibility of shounen-ai would be quite fitting (though his reaction when he was kissed by his friend versus the hand-holding doesn't really imply leaning toward either party, at least to me. He didn't blush as most animes would add that bit of a hint but that's just me). Otherwise, the air of mystery and the lull of it reminds me of Fractale. I'll be watching this one. :)

WTF with that bed scene, it just seemed so random and out of place. I don't know about anyone else but if some escaped fugitive sneaked into my room and nearly choked me to death, I would probably not choose to lie down on the bed and hold hands. The main character was practically assaulted yet his only response is to act as if everything is normal? I will have to rewatch this episode because his actions seemed to make no sense whatsoever.

Nice first ep, very promising.
Loved how they animated that city and the heavy weather scenes were extremely well done.
That city seems eerie, and it's sure creepy everyone is monitored through those bracelets.
Quite interesting MC's as well, instead of the general spineless wusses.
An inteligent kid who doesn't scare easily, an escaped convict with knowledge about that city and a girl that seems to be able to handle herself as well.
I'm very interested to see where this goes.

If this were any other random cheap anime series, I would’ve been all “SHONEN-AI UNDERTONES HNNNNGGGGGG”, but from the start this series seemed to have alot of potential aswell as nice animation, and it’s sad to see that the main focus so far seems to be the shōnen-ai undertones instead of the advanced world they live in or something else. I’ll keep watching, but I hope it'll get on track.

As I thought, 80% of people who say they likes this episode are in female. DUH. 10% are males who klike this show (don't ask, don't tell). The other 10% are males who have not yet decided if they want to keep watching it. This is an aproximation based on all the posts before this one. The error margin is about 4% off. So yeah... the target demographic for this is women. Not that it wasn't clear , what with the novel an all.

It's ridiculous the amount of people who plan on dropping the show because some boys held hands. Insecure much? I'm not going to deny the BL hints. In fact the manga had more in it but that is no reason to drop a show. You should consider the characters, plot, animation, and story. If these were girls it wouldn't be a big deal. Give the show a chance and stop running for the hills the second you see some bromance.

I enjoyed this show. It might be my favorite this season. I just hope it doesn't go downhill but from what I've read of the manga so far it might be a good anime.

This show is awesome and will probably continue to be awesome, with or without shonen-ai hints. I don't see why it matters in the grand scheme of things, the show presents a really interesting dystopian setting, and the plot will probably be introduced in the next episode, the relationship between Shion and Nezumi is just so trivial.

I actually really liked the episode and i just KNOW YouTube's gonna be filled with yaoi AMVs soon XD But i don't mind (i actually like yaoi/shounen ai ) i just hope it doesn't ruin the series. Although i was septical since Nezumi is like Kanda but with short hair (se the picture of the anime) and the other guy looks like Allen and i sort of hate them as a ouple (sorry Yullen fans :) ) Don't get me wrong ,i like yaoi/shounen-ai ,but in this type of anime (more serios and shounen-like) i prefer they don't show much of it.

I KNOW this isn't yaoi or shounen-ai but ,c'mon, the 2 main characters are guys so it's bound that any yaoi/shounen-ai fangirl that sees this will be "Ohh they make such a cute couple" and BAM you get tons of videos, fanart, doujinshis ect..

Even if the romance is supposed to be between him and his childhood friend.Although he doesn't look that interested in her.XD And don't worry guys BONES doesn't dissapoint (in terms of animation/quality or anything of the like ) :)

Lol, there seem to be two main types of posts here...

#1 - Those dropping it due to the 'undertones' of Yaoi/Shounen-ai. Probs a lil rushed decision, but fair enough - doesn't affect me.

#2 - Those who like to think they are more superior than those posting #1 because they are more accepting of such things/less awkward around it. Get off your high horses, goddamnit. In some ways, I like you people less than those posting #1.

(#3 - Even more superior bastards, like me. )

I can't believe the big debate is whether to drop this show simply because there may (or MAY NOT) be a romantic relationship between 2 males.

Really?! Close-minded idiocy. I am dissapointed.

I could care less if its homo or hetero- What people should be caring about is plot, characters, overall progression...etc and base their drop/not drop on that.

Children being gay for each other. wtf.
This show is, simply, average. Setting (I've seen it, like, 10 times?), characters (nothing special, seriously), meh seiyuu (Ko-chan/Subarun's accent becomes irritating when he gets more occasions to talk...), decent art, sound isn't annoying... Not a single outstanding feature. And, on top of that, powerful homo vibes. Yuck.
Just great and there was I, expecting Bones to do something great after last failure named Gosick. I'm losing faith in quality of their anime... I can only hope it takes completely different route than Gosick - it should get better with each episode, not worse...

Having read the light novel a bit further, the setting changes a bit and the main protagonist's living conditions change a lot. Though admittedly I don't think this anime'd ever interest you no matter what the setting or characters are like if you're already calling holding hands "powerful homo vibes".

I don't really see the gayness in it everyone's saying there is. This show will not only have an interesting plot, from what iv'e seen, but will also focus on the character's bonding. The part where Nezumi held Shion's hand, was for comfort, even saying this was a first for experiencing a human's warmth, or in my interpretation, a person's kindness.
Even if it does turn into something like shounen-ai, why would you want to stop watching it if it has a good story? If it was het i'm sure it wouldn't keep you guys from following through. Just ignore it at most. But hey, if you don't wanna watch it, go ahead. *sighs*

Plot looks convoluted and plentiful. Hope everything gets explained within the short 11 episode timespan.

Very good start. Don't care about people thinking of homoness since that's obviously not the intent.

I dont know much about this Kanda look-a-like kid since its only Episode 1 but it looked like he barely had anyones hands to hold onto seeing that scene must be his first time feeling someones warmth...or love (no homo) lol xD. Just what is wrong with you people?
I came here before I watched the episode and I was expecting something, I dunno more scandalous?
If anything what Shion did was... humane? no I didn't get any Shounen-ai vibes while watching the holding hands scene, just two cute children being nice to each other and being friends? yeah friends haven't you ever heard of being "friends"?
Even if this turns out to be Shounen-ai it would make the fangirl in me very happy, but if you wanna get vibes from somewhere, get it from somewhere right.

Anyways, done ranting, it was a good episode, I really did enjoy Mezumi's character, he felt like a Kanda's son or a young version of him.

I dont feel like the OP fit

I see a person getting pushed down, running away, having a gun put to his head, and apparently suffering sever psychological distress and I hear... happy jpop

umm no... I'm cool with the song and happy that the this is the band's debut but people need to learn that the OP should fit the anime otherwise it just seems like a "_______ happens while I play unfitting music" video.

the day that an anime like hellsing has an upbeat jpop OP is the day I commit suicide with a chainsaw
