Haven't you guys learned to check which fansub group you're downloading from? I don't know if you're getting these from AnimeTake or streaming them online or something, but the best way to make sure you get quality subs is to just keep an eye on UTW's website. Here, they've released Aria 7: http://utw.me/2011/05/28/hidan-no-aria-07/ |

I was about to go into rage mode when Kinji was about to kiss Shirayuki, I'm just glad he hesitated even a little, because otherwise those fireworks would be interrupting the kiss in progress. I'm really having a hard time liking Shirayuki, and that might be b/c I'm such an Aria x Kinji fan, but can't help it, so Shirayuki....BACK OFF!!!!! |

Alright little late watching this episode but wow. This was one of the less fufilling episodes. Don't get me wrong, this was very good, but i can somehow tell this was rushed even without reading the manga. I have to say though, the childish side of aria is pretty cute haha xD. However I have to wonder, does reki play a more serious role in this situation? I thought she was guarding Shirayuki part time O.o. |

whew... finally, i watched Hidan no Aria with UTW's decent subs... Reki's quite awesome there, but also fearsome... firing a warning shot to "calm down" somebody? i don't think i'll be more relaxed under such situation... despite that, i want to see more of her in the next episodes... and oh, Shirayuki looks sexier in school uniform... hehe... XD as for the subs, it was while i was watching UTW subs that i realized i could've actually understood gg's trollsubs if only i put in more effort in comprehending the subs.. and i guess i could learn some Japanese in gg's subs... |

Hm... interesting. I'm starting to actually see some pretty solid parallels between Aria's character and Sherlock Holmes. A whole bunch of me rambling about my perceptions of aria in the spoiler I mean, Sherlock was a very intelligent man, but he had a very narrow set of intellectual strengths and aptitudes. Some subjects he could be relied upon as if he were some manner of encyclopedia from the future, other subjects would always be completely beyond his capability to understand. This was coupled with a series of personality deficits and strange quirks which made him ultimately incapable of functioning at full capacity on his own, and largely dysfunctional in his daily life. Now Aria seems actually to be a remarkably intelligent person, but she really does lack knowledge of a great many things. For starters a pretty large amount of daily life, a certain amount of Japanese culture, etc. She lacks skill in some vital areas, one of which seems to be communication. The ability to understand others or make herself understood. She has some personality deficits which will pretty consistently lead her in the wrong direction, being quick to anger and as a whole quite overly emotional (but not in any way she draws strength from that I've seen so far). She doesn't seem to have any unhealthy habits on quite the same level as Holmes, but certainly her dietary issues could be said to mirror that. So really, now that I'm looking it over, what she needs isn't really just a partner who has a complementary skill set. She needs a Watson. Someone to bounce ideas off of, aide in her thought processes, accommodate her eccentricities and provide her with the more common knowledge she lacks. So now I have to ask myself if Kinji is capable of being a Watson. Honestly, I'm inclined to say no. Thus far he's been completely incapable of aiding her in her though processes. He has almost no tolerance for her eccentricities and he doesn't really help her with the gaps in knowledge and abilities so much as he looks down on her for them and "Calls her out on her bullshit" so to say. Of course, on the other end of that, there was the scene when they were going to catch the bus, and Kinji was able to figure out the unknown reasoning behind Aria's instinct. That's a good sign. He technically did provide common knowledge that Aria lacked and then compensate for her lack of ability in the scene with the claw machine. It just wasn't work related, but it was still helpful and shows he can help her with the daily problems she has, which is half the battle. He's also shown a pretty strong inclination towards both enabling and accommodating Aria's dietary eccentricities. Although he thus far has mostly exacerbated Aria's more passionate outbursts, he is the calmer head here (for the most part), it seems reasonable that he could later show an ability to rein in Aria at moments when she's clearly getting carried away in the moment in a manner that is counterproductive. So in that sense, he is off to a good start. A Watson-Holmes relationship isn't built overnight, and they're entirely separate people so it will never be an exact replica of that dynamic, but in time perhaps Kinji will be capable of similarly working effectively as a catalyst for for Aria's mental processes. Half the problem right now is that neither party knows the other terribly well, so for example Kinji quite naturally doesn't understand the weight which Aria's instinct should be treated with. There's no trust yet. This could prove to be a very compelling relationship once they start to develop trust. I'm actually starting to get pretty excited about the prospect. A good and proper "Two halves of a whole" type scenario, the likes of which is generally done so poorly, but which I can believe would be executed much better with the context provided by the show. Think this might be a prize ship in the making. To sum it up, Aria's really growing on me, as is the Aria x Kinji ship. Really liking what I'm seeing, really like the places they could go with it. Especially since I don't generally get into the ships in shows like these that's significant and surprises me. Regarding today's episode in general? Meh. There were a couple funny moments with Shiroyuki, and a really fun moment with Reki, but as a whole it felt like an episode where we're just getting all the things that have to happen for the interesting events to occur out of the way. Might have worked a bit better if they'd actually developed Shiroyuki's character beyond "Hey, you know how we briefly mentioned her being a bird in a cage? Well guess what? She's a caged bird! Shocking, I know." It was mostly reiterations of things we already had associated with her. Not like anything in this episode was bad or unpleasant to watch, they just didn't bring their A-game today. When you're gonna make a plot as straightforward as this has been so far, you gotta put in the extra effort to make it fun and compelling. Looking forward to next week though. Seems like there's gonna be some fun stuff then. I mean, Durandal seems to be some manner of chemicals expert. Staging the conflict in a gunpowder storage facility to prevent firearm use, and then utilizing what I assume what liquid nitrogen to freeze Kinji in place. There just aren't enough badass chemists in fiction. She's gonna be fun to watch. |

So was I the only one who thought that Kinji was painfully stupid this episode? And not just Kinji but the creators themselves. Kinji's outburst toward Aria that Durandal didn't exist and Aria was just making up fantasies was mindnumbingly stupid. Wasn't it a teacher that suggested Shirayuki needed protection in the first place? Does Kinji did that the teacher is being so cautious over nothing? Is Kinji really that dumb or did the creators just think I wouldn't notice if they pretended Durandal was all in Aria's head? This was also the catalyst for him wandering off and leaving Shirayuki to go take on Durandal. I guess he really is that dumb. I couldn't take the stupidity this ep. It made me feel physical pain. |

The author did come up with some good reasons why Kinji fools himself that Durandal does not exist; for example, they said Lezzad and SSR reports about Durandal are not reliable, they said Tsuzuri exaggerated things when it comes to honour student Shirayuki, and some emotional factors Kinji had against Aria, etc. Unfortunately, the Anime did not make sense of these aspects. The novel was quite good. And not just Kinji but the creators themselves. Kinji's outburst toward Aria that Durandal didn't exist and Aria was just making up fantasies was mindnumbingly stupid. Suffice it to say that if the blade is indeed magical in nature, that could mean a lot of things. It also opens up the setting to mystical artifacts and such, creating powers that aren't inherited from birth. That's pretty important. Interesting take. He's certainly a little jaded, and what with his ability and the trouble it's given him he has every reason to not trust people. If half the world's population had an easily executed means of robbing me of my free will and manipulating me towards their own ends I'd probably keep people at a distance to. Despite difficulties he's actually figuring her out at a pretty solid rate. You can often see it in his eyes as he takes note of various parts of her life and just assesses and reasons her out. Seeing how she's treated in assault, and learning of her mother's situation are both pretty good examples where he just immediately took a leap in his ability to understand her and decipher her actions, motives, and feelings. I think this should be within his ability to puzzle through. Plus, he's not an entirely stupid man. Things like Aria's instinct will come to be respected as he witnesses the rate of accuracy associated with it, as well as how often it seems to follow a line of reasoning that is simply hidden and difficult to decipher, much as how Holmes conclusions would often seem mysterious, unfounded, etc to others until he painstakingly explained the process step by step as one would to a child. Come to think of it, he too would often come to conclusions that would appear to be mere guesswork but which were actually carefully weighed from probability in comparison to other theories which didn't hold up quite so well. Whether Aria truly simply cannot explain her reasoning properly, or if she's just genuinely not entirely aware of what goes into her conclusions, working intuitively rather than consciously, I think that prolonged exposure to her at work would probably be enough for all but an absolute fool to realize that she is indeed operating on a higher level, and appearances are deceptive here. Much as Sherlock would seem a mere slovenly degenerate until one is shown the results of his endeavors. In fact, I think I can put "Appearing to be less than they are", both physically and in behavior, as another commonality between the two characters. Definitely going to be a bigger surprise. Chemist? Well I got info she might a form occultism but if they make it like a Index this might be bad. Then again who knows if something happened to the world that made suddenly magic into reality. Could be possible as a scenario.Looking forward to next week though. Hmm... I'd certainly prefer a chemist, but looking through the supernatural themes of the show, as well as how this story arc seems to serve to explain the notion of the superpowered individuals of this setting, it does seem pretty probable that there'll be some manner of supernatural aspects to her feats rather than scientific. Especially when I consider what we've just gone over in terms of EU's methods and interests. Pretty good episode I thought. Naturally Aria screaming at Kinji has been done before and hurt my ears, but less Aria + more Shirayuki = awesome! She looks so pretty too. I totally ship them together now :3 What was with that ice thing? O_O Do we have magic powers now or something? Uh ... OK ... Didn't want Aria randomly rushing in at the end but that was to be expected (obviously) ... I will eat my hat if they don't end up together but heck, it would be freaking AMAZING if they didn't :P |

Good episode, but i didn't like kinji's attitude in this "Durandal Case"... In the fiirst few episodes of the show i was really "hating" Shirayuki... Now i think i like her more than Aria! |

I've watched this episode with gg subs (I wanted to check it, because I was reccomended) and I... Well, freaked out. Kinda. Do they always make subs this horrible? It was hardly possible to watch the episode for me due to it, because I was laughing at the yoda-style sentences xD |

Although I wasn't really looking forward to watching Kinji kiss two girls over a span of three episodes, backing off of that kiss WAS rather weaksauce. I wish Aria had more time in the show, since there is only twelve episodes, I'm hoping that it won't focus on the lame love triangle and get to the gun fights and Kanae-san. |
