So it's over but not over huh. Strange that they made this and left it like that.

So are those gold saints left gonna go to help or to they plan on just sitting around like they did in the past. Hope not cause one thing i liked about this arc is that the gold saints didn't stay sitting on their ass and actually tries to fight the enemy.

Well now going to the next OVA.

Oh this was so damn good. Lmao Basically all the gold saints are dead now. Even though I heard omega was shit, this actually makes me want to watch it just to see who the new gold saints will be. And the 8th sense? How long have they had it? If it was since the sanctuary arc then that would explain how they were able to defeat the gold saints without going into a thousand wars.

The title card this episode was friggin awesome. Seriously like my favorite I've seen in anime. Rhadamanthys catching a Ryuseiken, laughing, and it cutting to black with the laugh still playing revealing the title card.

That was one way to get the arc started. The tone is set now that the bronze saints are all nearly dead and the only gold saints who remain are Dohko and Kanon. And that was only part 1. Rhadamanthys was surely a tough opponent being one of Hades top 3 so I imagine he's a good indicator of the best of the best and he's set up the power difference when in the realm of Hades.

I honestly feel like they all went down too quick. I felt emotion when Hyoga was saying goodbye to Camus after finally seeing him again and how we saw him fade away from his arms. There was a pit in my stomach with Rhadamanthys said the gold saints were dead and I realized Miro was right about them all dying. And I genuinely felt real sadness at Dohko and Shion's farewell. Two comrades from 243 years ago finally reunited having to go so soon. Later Dohko even implied his death is on its way which made things so much worse. It's just it was so much to swallow I couldn't feel the tension I felt when Aldebaran or Shaka went down, not by a long shot. It went by really quick.

I wonder if the Underworld drains the life of the living as so that only the dead may exist there. I could be going too far but with the fortress literally being linked to the underworld I think that may be the force itself that weakens the saints.

Something I love about Saint Seiya is how even when the less powerful characters beat the more powerful characters it's almost always believable in a weird way. More than just accepting cosmos and why they would win in universe, it's nearly never unsatisfying. Every fight in the sanctuary arc was like this too, Aldebaran let Seiya go upon breaking a horn. Death Mask had his cloth reject him and had a naked battle with Shiryu. Shura only lost upon incredible smarts, resolve, and suicide. Miro let Hyoga go to test his resolve upon seeing how strongly he fought for Athena. The list goes on. Here we didn't have Seiya destroy Rhadamanthys. Far from that. He scratched his cloth and pushed him into Cocytus by igniting his seventh sense and fighting for everyone's convictions before him. That's what I mean by it being believable. Even in the manner they beat the opponents it's always one that feels completely justified, at least to me. I'm sure there is exceptions but there are so many examples of this.

Lol, I have to admit there was a moment I thought Seiya suicided to take Rhadamanthys out and we'd see him fight through the underworld as a spirit, but I suppose that's impossible or the other dead saints would just kick Hades butt from there.

I struggle rating this because this episode was a curveball but everything before it was an ideal Saint Seiya arc. Not that this episode was bad but more so the direction it took is one I will have to see more of before I have a strong opinion on it. Every episode was really great, it had mostly all you could want from Saint Seiya and more. It did lack the cheesy moments of justice prevailing through pushing oneself to the brink, I feel the closest we got to this was the bronze saints sending the Athena Exclamation to the heavens. And it lacked the deep analysis of ideological clashes which is one of my favorite parts of the series but that is because we literally couldn't have dealt with that much this time. So the lacking parts are absolutely forgivable and it was necessary to hold off on those to make this so good. The tone would have been ruined if we had the bronze saints cheesiness in its full glory and it would have removed from the heartbreaking focus of comrades vs comrades due to an unfortunate situation. What came with that was probably the emotionally strongest part of the series.

On a side note, I actually think I really prefer the original art and animation. The colors were much nicer in my opinion and the blows felt so impactful in a way none have so far here. It's nice to get real animation in fights but it lacks the punch the original had.

Really an ideal Saint Seiya arc from episodes 1-12 and over time this episode may be one I really appreciate.
8/10!

Despite how nice this OAV was and the need for a spectacular thing to sign the last OAV of the series, this is the weakest of the lot for me. I still regret the absence of regular rank specters in the castle so Shiryu could beat them (if I remember well), and some other things. The Asgard music played in background powered up the moment though.

3.5-/5

Great direction, music as good as ever (too bad there is no new track apart the very few ones composed for Hades back in the 80s).
Many unneccessary changes from the comics, some damaging the scenes (hello, Bronze Saints), some improving this series (as a dramatic one).
Score: 7.5/10

@gfsdfgsdgsdfgs Interesting, I always thought the colours in those OAVs suit the environment and story very well (night, dramatic reunion). A more vivid digital paint will be used in the following (cheaper) OAV series.
Also, I would note altega the note of those OAVs epending on the next ones, who have little in common in terms of content (they notably reintroduce the often skipped "humour" of the manga) and technical aspects.

Little note: the Mariners wore Scales, the Specters wear "Surplis".

PS: the Athena Exclamation send to the sky has always been the worst scene of those OAVs for me, it totally reduced the impact of this forbidden technique.

@Rei366 You have a very good point about the colours. I think I am stuck in my old ways because I love how the original looked so much! I suppose even if the new ones fit better it feels more dull to me and nothing pops out, however, that very well may be exactly what is intended to make it all feel dreary and hopeless. In that way I agree it succeeded.

And as much as it reduced the Athena Exclamation itself, I was grateful to get a moment of cheesiness even if it was wiped away directly after. It lifted the moods in a way that felt in tone with the series and it came from the intense emotion of the bronze saints, especially Shiryu and Hyoga who knew their counterparts would not be acting on evil will. For that I really liked it.

Well, that was nice but it just felt like a long build up and this episode isn't the exception but I did enjoy watching these characters again.

Next is the Inferno chapter...

WE ARE ATHENA'S SAINTS !!!!! (WHETHER BRONZE SAINT, SILVER SAINT, GOLD SAINT)

NOTHING WAS ZZZZZZZZ EVEN MY HEART WAS POUNDING SEEING THE BRONZE SAINTS FIGHT !!!! RHADAMANTHYS WAS A BADASS STRONG ENEMY !!!!! PANDORA IS HOT !!!!!

GOLD SAINTS GOT EVEN BETTER, ESPECIALLY AFTER 74 EPISODES OF TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THEM, WE FINALLY CAN GET BEHIND THEM !!!!!

THE HADES SANCTUARY LITERALLY BEING THE REVERSE ORIGINAL SANCTUARY WITH SAGA, CAMUS, SHURA CLIMBING THE TEMPLE IS A BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE :)))

ESPECIALLY SAGA, HE REALLY GONE AND LEAD THIS CRUSADE AS ONE OF THE BEST SAINTS AFTER SEEMINGLY TURNING HIS BACK AGAIN, AND CAMUS WOULD SEEMINGLY TURN HIS BACK AS HYOGAS TEAGHER AFTER THE ORIGINAL SANCTUARY, AND SHURA WHO WAS PRETTY ZZZZZZZZ IN THE ORIGINAL TOOK PART IN THIS GOOD FIGHT TO BE AN UP TOP SAINT

I LOVED MU (HIS VOICE IS REALLY AWESOME) AND WITNESSING AIOLIA'S AND MILO'S ANGER.

SEEING DOHKO COMING BACK VS. SHION WAS HONESTLY ONE OF THE BEST THING TO RECEIVE AFTER LOST CANVAS AND THE ORIGINAL

I LIKED APHRODITE, DEATHMASK THE EVILEST BUNCH COME IN AND THEN AS QUICK AS THAT OUT THAT DOOR, PUNISHED LOL

KANON WAS A GOOD ADDITION AND ALDEBARAN WHILE SHORT-LIVED WAS A GOOD DISPLAY

FINALLY SHAKA, WE GET A GLIMPSE OF SOME OF HIS POWER, UNLEASHING HIS POWER FROM SITTING MEDITATION, STRONGEST AND HOLY, MAN CLOSEST TO GOD !!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL AS HIS SOUL GOES BEYOND THE LIFE AFTER DEATH

ATHENA EXCLAMATION !!!!!!!!!

@TGWisHere it's nearly a year later, did you ever think of something?

~
Either way, on to the topic of saint seiya.
this hades series was a really interesting turn in comparison to the original, i really like it although it felt like it was kind of dark with it being night throughout the series, it still fits the story better than if it was brightly lit though. apparently i heard that the manga was set at night more often or had more duller looking points but toei changed that to be day in the og anime? i guess they're making up for it now by making this the darkest looking episodes of SS, though i find that really interesting it makes me really want to try the manga out sometime soon to confirm this for myself.

The ending to this part was a bit abrupt, it felt like it all built up just to go "carry on to the next part" but i don't mind too much lol, it was fun. there's anticipation to see saori again.
imo if there were ever a new Saint Seiya remake i wouldn't mind a more modern take on this show's style with current day improved visuals/animation for it, it think it'd be neat and the best take on the series style for me.
I like Közi a healthy amount.
