They finally made it at last!

I must say I "lol" when Yamato just crash the party, flew in without invitation and blew things up. Not to mention they left the party with a bang. A bit too unrealistic considering the odds they were up against. Anyhow, it was still an enjoyable episode! Now we have another long wait :<

So badass

These past two battles have been crazy seeing how many ships outnumber the single Yamato. Okita doesn't give a fuck though haha. Wow using the Wave Motion Gun as a jet to propel itself into the gate while simultaneously destroying the planet core in turn blowing up most of the Gamilas fleet present. Genius tactics on display here people

Dessler lives! Wasn't expecting him to die so soon anyway haha. Too bad Norio Wakamoto had to get shot in the back though. The dimensional submarine commander(Jouji Nakata) makes his return though gladly, his episode was awesome

Yamato 2199's endings of its episodes leading into the credits are always a highlight, the music swelling after the space battle added to the victory. This volume went out with a bang literally!

Yamato is the ultimate trollship.

But man this is the best stuff I've seen in years. I'm actually pretty surprised the modern anime industry can even make something like this. It's pretty much all the best parts of the original, improved, with a pinch of LoGH, and a bunch of extra babes without delving into obvious fanservice (With the girls that is, the space pewpews fanservice is certainly there).

The odds were made a lot better by the hesitation of the enemy ships. For all the talk of 10,000 ships being gathered, there wasn't the solid wall of beam spam that you'd expect--because aside from the blue-skinned fanatics in charge, most captains aren't going to shoot through their brethren to attack an enemy, nor will they be quick to fire when missing means hitting a friendly.

If it were the Yamato in a straight-forward face off against the fleet, then humanity would have been doomed. But since it plunged right into the thick of the fleet, taking it by surprise, its strong shields served to deflect a lot of the damage from those ships that could confidently (or callously) attack while its own weapons wreaked havoc upon the nearest. Most of the rest of the fleet scrambled, unable to mount a competent counterattack.

Giving time and attention to the other crew members and some development for them has turned out to be one of the more memorable aspects of the aspect. Shinohara had and has an interesting past and personality so his little bit and the action it gave was a nice refreshing moment from the main six or so.

Goer must be commended...my favorite of the Gamillians, and Dessler too. Zoellik when he saw the reveal and getting all flustered was hilarious.

Enjoyed the action and the plan and the explosions as usual. The wave motion cannon going and everyone bracing for it, the presentation made it look more than the typical anime in terms of visuals. I was impressed

Actually, there are literally dozens of accounts of this tactic being used, successfully, by pilots in WWI and WWII. They'd happen on a large fighter unit flying in formation that outnumbered them 10-30 to 1, but had not sighted them yet. Just one or two pilots would simply rush into the middle of the formation firing, get a few kills, and make it out pretty much unscathed.
Much as CNagy said, there are several forces at work:
1) Surprise. Their response is delayed because they're not ready to respond yet.
2) Inability to maneuver to intercept. Obviously, only a tiny handful can actually engage, effectively, at any given time.
3) Friendly fire. Pilots and naval crew absolutely abhor "blue on blue," far more so than many other arms. Part of this is they get a front row seat for the damage and confusion it causes, every time.

So basically, while there's a massive fleet there, the Yamato isn't dealing with more than two or three dozen at a time (if that), gets the first shot (remember inititative bonuses in turn-based games?), and is able to fire indiscriminately while the enemy is hamstrung. Add to that the general confusion (compounded by conflicting and unacceptable orders), th "we sank it" part, and the absolute confusion gripping the entire fleet at the time it reappears, and it's not that unrealistic for it to survive.
Some previous successes were much more unrealistic.

That said, all I really care about was the stunning visuals and the most epic main gun shot I've seen in a very, VERY long time.

Pretty much this. I'm marvelled that this series got the greenlight though with the current state of fandom in anime. I suppose that they're counting on older Yamato fans to pick this up on nostalgia alone).

Okita doesn't go inmuch for subtlety. Straight ahead, full speed, all guns firing. I wonder if that will work all the time.

Desler was alive but it was to be expected. And Zoellick is for sure dead. Now that Norio Wakamoto is out of the picture there will be less ham in the series.

And it seems Akira has now some feelings for Shinohara too, which is good for her since it seems that Yuki is taking an unassailable lead on the Kodai front.

Once me and this one to you. It's the bad guys, so to speak, the search for it. Yet another lesson of war, some tap scene as well, do not complain after all. Design and animation OK, less pathos.

As several people have pointed out the odds were far too great for the outcome. Over 10000 ships and Yamato just rushes past??? Although I do admit that there is the element of surprise in addition to the fear of friendly fire. However things seemed too good to be true.

One thing that has been bothering the most is that Yamato destroys Garmillian ships far far far too easily. People are not dumb, the Garmillians are not dumb. How come these Garmillian ships are shot down like they're flies?? I don't like how they treat Garmillian life too easily... Yamato shot down dozens of ships. Each ship had at least 100 crew on board. THATS A LOT OF PEOPLE DEAD. A lot of people with family and friends....

Oh well. Good episode none the less.

Still amazing series...

But I just gotta say. Why, oh why, did that sexy woman with short silver hair suddenly started to get all lovey-dovey with some minor character (the one with the long hair)? Just because the blonde chick hugged the main character and tried to be all slutty with him, doesn't mean that the silver-haired chick should give up so quickly and move onto finding another man. Fuck, every series I watch where there are multiple potential love interests, the one that I like NEVER gets her way.

The episode started pretty well and was hoping to see an episode about a lone recon ship in unknown territory, but instead we got another boring ship "battle". I'm not sure battle is the right word because it's been fairly obvious since the start of the series that nothing is going to happen to the Yamato and they seem to be able to make get supplies for new ships, torpedos and ship repairs out of thin air. There must be a pretty big factory somewhere on the ship we haven't seen yet.

Wow Okita is one suicidal bastard.

Also don't give me that "oh but they were caught by surprise which is why they couldn't take the Yamato down!" It's one big ass ship surrounded by hundreds of thousands of ships. It's just plot armor at its finest. This is why you never put the MCs in a ridiculous situation like that.

Good news is they weren't crazy enough to actually kill off Desler and did indeed use a double as presumed.

Let's see what's next.

Surviving and even fighting in this situation Vs those thousands of technologically advanced space ships from another more tech advanced civilization is really too much, i cant take this, therefore this is a really bad flaw imo. The Yamato plot armor in this anime is so huge xD

But Technically the visuals and the animation were amazing so i still enjoyed the episode, can't call it good episode though...

What an awesome episode.

1. Goer showing he's not just a snivelling rat, takes out the traitor.
2. Wave motion gun blows up Balun, destroying a fleet of 10k+
3. Desler is actually still alive
4. We're finally in the Large Magellanic Cloud

It seemed almost absurd, but it was the obvious choice to go through all that crowd of alien ships and then create a diversion to escape. Envy and rivalries, always play bad shots, at least is what seems to mean the episode as a message. The fear that Shinoara would not return from the mission, touched my mind, when it was centered by the enemy fire and had damaged the helmet he wore, that shivered on his back.

The big reveal that Misaki Yuria was posessed by that Iscandar woman, then the encounter between her and Yuki and they do nothing with it? What about having a scene where the talk with each other? That whole thing still raises a bunch of questions. Like, why she decided to posess her? Why she kept quiet about it for so long?

And we still don't know what she meant that there are two on board back in the psychic episode. (Although one can already guess..)

"we will only use the wave motion gun to defend us"
comes in and crashes party of 10k ships

I was expecting the Yamato to somehow defeat the empire, but not in a massive battle like this, lol.

RIP space Rommel, unless he somehow got saved.
Definitely RIP fake Reuenthal though.

I really like this show so far. Its refreshing to have some good pacing for once.

As much as I love this show, the battle against 10k Garmillan ships was just unrealistics to the point of absurdity lol

I've read one or two comments about how it possible to pull off that trick, and I somehow agree with them. BUT, the main factor of this successful feat was PLOT ARMOR.

And I agree with one comment here along the line "don't put them in impossible situation like this and then having they succeed 'miraculously'"

That being said, animations and OSTs really redeem this episode for me.

Slightly reckless from the captain but it paid off in the end, they didn't really talk about the reasons why they couldn't use the other 2 routes but most likely time saving.

Not surprised to see Dessler alive and well, you could say this is the second time Dessler has indirectly saved the Yamato with news about him disrupting the entire fleet. Looks like there'll be no hiding place for the Yamato next time.
