They'd dropped hints here and there, but finally the truth is out. This is kind of a sequel to the UC Gundam. The Gundam destroyed the Earth thousands of years ago.

Not only UC; there were also scenes shown from other alternate universes. I'm not sure how much correctly is doing that, but it was the idea of the series from the start, since Turn A kinda means union

Ah so this is canon to the UC timeline, very nice touch.

And Sweatson continues to prove he's an idiot.

Now that was fucking awesome. Thankfully, I watched enough UC Gundam to understand though I think I"ll definitely come back to this series after I watch some of the rest of UC Gundam and others.

OH MY GOD! SO MANY REFERENCES TO PREVIOUS UC GUNDAM!They even used the name "Universal Century". I thought the whole show would be a bunch of small references to previous shows, but now we had major references.

This episode was so surprising that I almost forgot that stupid conversation about asses. I guess Gundam never changes.

That was quite something. The references were definitely interesting, although I saw that coming a long time ago.

Excited to see a final battle of Turn A vs Turn X now. ^^

This episode has done some good things here- very nice seeing those references.
Also a most intense ending, the best one yet.

So the others finally found out when Dianna and Kihel switched places. And I found Lily's reaction to be so damn funny.

I really dont know how I didnt figure out that the dark history was the universal century. I havent finished all the UC gundams yet so hopefully after war gundam X will hint at some turn a stuff. I dunno, I'd like to see a turn A prequel.

Well that sucks. I knew Victory gundam was the last gundam in the UC timeline but I was hoping after war gundam X would be right after the UC era ended and it would show the creation of the white doll and turn X but I guess not.

After recently watching everything in the UC era (I'm doing a Gundam marathon and it's so fun) this is just mindblowing to me, easily the best episode so far.

Not just UC, I spotted some mobile suits from After War (Gundam X, Jenice) and After Colony (Sandrock Custom) as well.

Great episode so far. Hopefully the ending won't disappoint.

Exactly. Dark History=Every single Gundam universe. The manual for the Master Grade Turn-X model implies the series that came after Turn A are also included, which actually makes sense from a meta perspective, since Tomino wrote this to acknowledge that the alternate universes were also "true" Gundam.

Of course, how this is possible IN-UNIVERSE is not clear. I saw the "world-wide-ring" from G Gundam this episode, but how can this series be part of the same universe of the other Gundam series? And there are so much more questions! How come we keep having New York Cities, Romes and other such places when human civilization keeps getting destroyed and re-built? How come the word Gundam keeps coming up with diferente meanings? Let's be honest here, the Dark History makes NO SENSE!

First time I am moved by watching a colony drop (Axis drop doesn't count because Amuro's sacrifice added some weight there). And the second usage of the term Universal Century was even more impactful than the one in the previous episodes.
I don't mind the presence of G, W and X since the footages were less important and felt like an after-thought addition (showing their robots just for the sake of aknowledging the shows), this series seems more like the epilogue of Mobile Suit Gundam and its sequels than anything else. In that regard, I'm even expecting a strongly hopeful conclusion.
Also, about the non-UC footage, you can simply consider them as pictures from the UC we never experienced (between Victory, Turn A), unrelated to their own series

The Prince and the Pauper's revelation! I thought they would never say it and I'm glad they did, offering a new perspective to Sochie (who was already more in-control than her early self) and some humility to Miss Borjano (?).
While the episode was effective and ended on a "bang", it seemed a bit stretched out with filling scenes.

5/5 Archives of 0079+ and nano-machines apocalypse *_*

Now, I have to laugh a bit thinking to the poor souls who imagined Unicorn made 00 a part of UC because it refers to our Anno Domini calendar. Those persons will think the A.D Dianna is talking about is 00's alternate calendar. XD
(you really wonder if they know the B.C. notation too)

@CodeBlazeFate I suppose this episode didn't work as well on you back then?

This is taken from a Gundam historian on Reddit and he explains how it all works:

At the end of the Universal Century era, space colonies around the Solar System finally had had enough of the constant war occurring around the Earth Sphere. The fact that the Earth had been turned into a nigh-uninhabitable rock didn't help things either. So, most space colonies underwent an exodus to colonize other systems, with only a few colonies remaining behind with the Earthnoids. Eventually, everyone left in the Solar System forgot about the exodus of space colonies, and life returned to normal.

Centuries later, an unknown mobile suit, the Turn X, was discovered drifting in a debris cloud just past Pluto. This news shocked both the Earthnoids and Spacenoids, since they realized that the Turn X surpassed all mobile suit technology they had. If the colonists who left Earth had developed that advance technology, then nobody would stand a chance against them if they decided to invade the Solar System.

To that end, the Spacenoids and Earthnoids collaborated to repair the Turn X, analyze the technology inside, and build their own version, the Turn A Gundam. The symbol "Turn A" can be used to mathematically denote a complete set, and the Turn A Gundam was called that because it contained all of the most powerful technology in it. Going along those lines, the Turn X was called so because it was a Turn Unit from beyond Planet X.

The most powerful of the weapons possessed by both the Turn A and Turn X was a nanomachine system called the Moonlight Butterfly. It was a system of self-replicating nanomachines that could reduce anything it identified as technology into sand and dust. It's full operational range extended all the way to Jupiter. All it takes for a Turn Unit to use the Moonlight Butterfly is the nanomachines to start the process, energy to activate the nanomachines, and a program to run the nanomachines.

Eventually, both the Turn X and Turn A were completed and made fully functional. However, at some point after that, another conflict grew between the Earthnoids and Spacenoids, and each of the two sides both had a Turn Unit at their disposal.

The war lasted for years and years, until the only thing that could be done to end it was activate the Moonlight Butterfly. Thus, the Turn A activated it's Moonlight Butterfly unit, completely destroying all of civilization in the Solar System. Once the dust settled, both the Turn A and Turn X powered down into a dormant state, and were lost.

Some technology managed to survive the apocalypse brought upon by the Moonlight Butterfly, thanks to a special coating of nanoskin that negated any effects of nanomachine damage. A group of survivors used that technology to live on the Moon, and they became the Moon Race. As the Moon Race entered cryosleep to survive, the survivors left on Earth rebuilt civilization and helped repair the Earth.

Thus began the cycle of death and rebirth caused by the Moonlight Butterfly. Humans kept on developing mobile suits and Gundams, and conflicts between Spacenoids and Earthnoids kept on happening. The Turn Units always kept on being rediscovered, and their Moonlight Butterflies were always activated to completely destroy civilization in an endless cycle of war and revenge. This is the future of series such as (or at least similar to) G Gundam, Gundam Wing, After War Gundam X, and so on. All eventually gets destroyed because of the Moonlight Butterfly.

In every one of those cycles, Mountain Cycles were discovered along with the Turn Units, and more weaponry was put in those every time to preserve them. In addition, the Moon Race grew, thanks to survivors of those apocalyptic events entering cryosleep on the Moon. But no matter what happened, civilization always got destroyed and reborn, and humanity always took longer and longer to redevelop advanced technology.

The latest iteration of the cycle is the Correct Century of Turn A Gundam. Humanity remained in a technologically stagnant age for centuries, until the Moon Race's resettlement plans and the discovery of the Mountain Cycles. The Turn A Gundam was left on the Earth, and the Turn X hidden on the Moon. But as to how the latest version of the cycle will end, who can say at this point?

Amazing. The truth is finally revealed. Seeing all those parts of UC like RX-78-2, Zakus, Operation British and Axis colony drop as being part of an ancient and long forgotten history made me weirdly emotional.

I was also quite surprised that many colonies fled into interstellar space. I wonder what happened to them. Are they still functioning? Did they find "new Earth" or did they perhaps encounter aliens? It's interesting to think about.

Sochie acts all surprised at the replacement news, but didn't she already know about the hospital thing at the very least?

Harry's rampage was cool. Also, Fran's new outfit is nice. And of course the apocalypse revelation was superb. Even Corin Nander was in the footage, huh (according to a certain character's exclamation).

Hands down best episode so far. I literally got goosebumps the entire runtime when the Dark History is revealed. It's nice to see Soechi and the others finally know the truth behind the Dianna and Kihel double stunts haha. That space colonies from UC and the OG Gundam shown on the projector are just marvelous. Turns out Correct Century is a far future and the whole combination of all Gundam Centuries. And lastly that Moonlight Butterfly is surely a terrifying power. Yeah the final showdown with Turn X is going to be epic. 5/5 episode indeed.

And turn a Gundam Is the UC timeline but far in the future.
