I remember watching this show with my dad back in the day and loved it. I still like the show a lot, and the death of Nicol and subsequent fight between Kira and Athrun remains the highlight of the show for me. But now that I'm older, and seen some newer anime, damn the animation and the voice acting left quite a bit to be desired! Kira's crying. :| And I also now realise how stupid some of the characters are. Or I guess blinded by revenge or w/e they were fighting for. A nitpick, Chairman Zala could've just called for truce procedures then and there and the result would be the same. About Tori being able to fly about space... Cmon guys it's a gundam sci-fi with giant mecha robot suits and bouncing metal ball Haros. |

I enjoyed the series. Ending was mehh. Guess I'll give Destiny a try now, despite what I've heard about it. Lol oh and after all the bad things I said about Flay, I will say this: "Nice tits". |

I wish I could move the Gundams (EDIT: to be clear, the mobile suit designs /edit) from SEED to another Gundam. I was about to say that SEED didn't really make me care about most of the characters who died, but actually it's just Flay who I strongly didn't care about so it seemed like more. I actually cared about La Flaga and Badgiruel despite pretending not to. Yes, I did end up saying, "Lol, who? Oh, bye Mu La Flaga," in a dismissive way, but I'm realizing that I even acknowledged his demise and realized what that meant for others-- which made me feel a little something, and that's enough for me. With Badgiruel's death, SEED had my full attention. Now Flay on the other hand, I couldn't help but not care. I just didn't appreciate her arc as much as the other characters I suppose. I felt like for Flay's death, the creators had to remind themselves, "Oh yeah, there was something between Kira and Flay. Let's put that in". I had to ask myself, even after her return and her arc, "Why do I care about Flay again?" I appreciate Dearka and Yzak though. Never forget; two recaps in a row. |

Welp, finally finished the first season of Seed after dropping it like a year or so back because of its awful story and characters and not sure why I even picked it up again since I now believe this is the worst Gundam I've ever seen, the writing in this both for the story and characters are just awful and felt like almost every character was stupid. Not even sure I want to get into Destiny since I heard it was even worse and I think this is worst.... 4/10 just because I did like the op/ed/music in this and the battles but that's only about it really. |

I actually liked it quite a bit. It was far better than Mobile Suit Gundam or Zeta. There were however a lot of annoying characters, a lot of nonsensical battles and decisions, the ending was mediocre (not Zeta bad, but still) and the show was too long for what it did with its time. Was it derivative of older Gundam shows? Yes, but it also managed to be better and improve on those in quite a few ways. Overall one of the better Gundam shows, despite there being some room for improvement. 8/10. |

Not gonna bother repeating stuff that others explained much better than me in this thread, but this show was very flawed overall despite not being quite as terrible as I thought it would be. Lots of reused footage, flashbacks up the ass, shoujo-tier melodrama (fuck the crying seriously), vague and unexplained elements and a plethora of rehashed ideas that were already used in older (and better) shows. The ending itself was alright but overall I'd say it's not an entry of the franchise I think would be worth revisiting in the near (or far) future. a 6/10 for me, the remaster was at least nice to look at, even though the way it reanimated Nicol's death was retarded. |

Rei366 said: I mean SEED isn't "bad" per se so you can definitely rewatch if you want. But given the sheer amount of things it straight up copies from 0079 (at least in its first 30 or so episodes) and how little it brings to the table in terms of new ideas you might as well just rewatch the original gundam, in my opinion. x)@Sapewloth So, if I decide to (re)watch this until the end, I will be disappointed as a fanatic of 0079? Or will it still be acceptable? PS: I had lost your track. XD |

I'd be more forgiving of the villains if that blonde bitch and his 3 fuckbois didnt exsist. That and Rau ended up being a really shit villain in the final stretch by turning him into a nihlist but hey at least his final fight with kira was great and I love that he was able to bring out kira's bloodthirsty side, it really offset how much of a saint he became in the 2nd half so it was great seeing him just go full in on wanting to kill someone. |

Finally done watching this on remastered version. It's nice to see that the new contents from Special Edition are all here. And hey they used Find The Way again as the finale song. Time to see Destiny remastered version and I wonder what will be the new stuffs there since there are lots of new content on Destiny Special Edition and if they'll be able to put all of those on the remastered version. |

Robot bird flying in space by flapping its wings. Sure... I'm glad it's finally over. They could've easily told this story in half the amount of episodes and it would've been a much better show. This way it was slow paced and repetitive. Pretty disappointing overall. 6/10 for me, not going to watch the second season (at least not any time soon). |

Was Flay a newtype ? lol The series is kinda weak, maybe it's better than Wing (I dropped Wing halfway), but worse than IBO and even 00 (and I don't mention UC Gundams) ... The story idea is quite good but the execution is poor.. Clearly this show targeted really young audiences ... The good points are in Kira and Athlun relationship and also a cool character in Mu La Flaga.. This show was also success in making me really hate Flay in the beginning, but growing sympathyze with her more and more before they killed her without a meaningful reason ... |

I actually enjoyed this to a certain extent aside from the terrible character designs. There isn’t that much stock footage in the remastered versions. I feel like they’ve could’ve redeemed Flay earlier. I liked how Yzak progressed in the series. Also, the OPs and EDs are as good as everyone says. How did they survived those explosions though????? Suppossedly all the protagonists were meant to die in the original script until very last minute where the actors protested it, I dont know if that was fully confirmed but with that context it does reflect how weird everyone's survival from explosions were in this final episode save for lacus whom im not sure where she'd die, like that whole last scene with kira in space seemed like it screamed death scene. |

With that i have finished this awful show. My goodness this show sure was fustrating to watch. i applaud at Gundam Seed for making me hating and wanting to punch 90% of the cast with the exceptions of Athrun, Lucas, Cagali and Kira ( though he was first one to make me feel like going inside the anime an just punch him until he made the right choice). i also didn't expect Flay to die, i always thought she needed a good lesson as she was the most frustrating character*huh* Well, the ending left me wanting more mostly because it just abruptly ended. i enjoyed it and it turns out it was worthwhile. this was indeed an awful show |

Of course they kill Flay, now we can't have a competitor for our pink haired pop Idol mary sue can we? The moment when Kira set foot into Freedom is the moment when show goes downhill Why? because from that moment he is able to fight dozens of enemy's mobile suits without killing them THIS takes away the "ambiguity" and the "cruelty" of war This relieves the protagonist's burden of knowing that he is killing other people in the war, as a result, he stands out from the rest of the people involved in the war Because he doesn't have to deal with the consequences and gravity of the act of killing!!!! THIS MISS THE ENTIRE POINT The Gundam pilot is NOT suppose to be an entity separate from war, BUT A PART OF IT!! If a regular soldier deals with guilty conscience of killing dozens of people Then a Gundam pilot deals with the guilt of killing hundreds! "The one who pull trigger of the greatest weapon, experiences the greatest of suffering and guilt" THAT IS THE CORE PHILOSOPHY OF GUNDAM So what does Seed do? make its main pilot this divine entity who can fight a war without killing, the shows goes out of its way and even revives the Andrew Waltfeld who we all know is a copycat of Ramba Ral Like him the purpose of Waltfeld is to humanize the opposition before him all of the people who Kira killed where nameless goons, it is easy to kill people when you do not think of them as people. So here just like 0079 we're shown that Waltfeld is a genuinely good man and we Don't want kira to die right? But that means he has to kill someone Someone he knows Someone who has talked to him Someone he knows is a good person Why? BECAUSE THAT IS WAR! Good people kill each other because they are on the opposite sides. But then what does Seed do? it brings him back from death for no reason. LITERALLY NO FUCKING REASON! "OH NO NO NO WE CAN'T ALLOW JESUS YAMATO TO BE THE KILLER OF FOUR NAMED CHARACTERS. FAST! GET WALTFELD OUT OF THE WRITER'S ASS!" Seed's script is uninspired, cowardice and manipulative, instead of letting the drama to born naturally from the plot around the war, it relies on Shoujo-tier melodrama between characters. Instead of allowing viewers to pick up their own message, it shouts its anti-war voice in their faces. "WOW GUYS! LOOK! KIRA IS CRYING FOR THE THOUSANDTH TIME! EVERYONE IS SHOUTING! PEOPLE ARE BURSTING LIKE BALLOONS! SAD POP MUSIC IS PLAYING AGAIN FROM NOWHERE! WOW GUYS, ISN'T WAR A BAD THING???!!!! IS MY VOICE LOUD ENOUGH???? I REPEAT, ISN'T WAR A BAD THING???????????!!!!!!!!!!!" The only time I felt sad was death of a character named Ahmed, he wasn't some grand or complicated character he was just an Arab boy who had a crush on Cagalli and and died in her arms before he could tell her his true feelings. She later took a gemstone from his mother that Ahmed wanted to give her. This insignificant character, who had no effect on the plot, neither when he was alive nor when he was killed...Why is that I saddened by his death but not Tolle's? The answer is simple : because the show doesn't force me to feel sad about Ahmed The same cannot be said for Tolle. When the show screams in my face: YOU SHOULD FEEL SAD! I grab a mental shield and shout: NO, FUCK OFF! NO ONE TELLS ME WHEN AND HOW I SHOULD FEEL! For the first 30 episodes the plot was nothing special. A typical conflict between earth and space. A teenager who was at the right time and place to fight in a war. And the clashes of two forces with each other in the continuation of the story. This storyline has already been narrated much better in 0079. Sٍٍٍeed added its own unique twist to the narrative. That from the very beginning two childhood friends had to fight with each other. And it worked. The clash between Kira and Athrun was the heart of the story's suspense and drama, and it peaked at the episode 30 When they attacked each other with the intention of killing. This final fight worked because everything was built towards it from the beginning of the series. Every encounter that Kira and Athrun had with each other Every fight they did They all referred to the inevitable clash between the two And when each one killed the other's friend, it was confirmed to them too. Both of them should have been killed in that fight and the series should have ended right there. If that was the case, I would give this anime 7/10, good 0079 clone. Another of Seed's faults is how it portrays all the parties except holy Lacus in an In a cartoonish evil way at the end of the series. At one side there is literally motherfucking Ku Klux Klan (Blue Cosmos) led by Azrael, who wants to massacre all the coordinators because he was bullied as a child or something, and the other side we have Patrick Zala who loses his mind at the end of the series and wants to massacre half the population on earth. All of sides must be stupidly evil because otherwise holy Lacus will look like an retarded. The war in the previous Gundams was not something that could be stopped by the slogans of an pop idol and the reincarnation of Christ. Stopping the war required the sacrifice of thousands and the suffering of millions. That was the whole point. "It is very difficult to stop a war, so it's better that we do our best not to start one." Also FUCK YOU FLAY HATERS! The best thing about this anime was Flay's character and the autistic screams of the other viewers about her. SO I RATE "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" : Flay Allster/10 And yea I'm not gonna watch Destiny. |

It's long gone but there it goes: Thank you SEED for existing, not only for saving the franchise from the commercial failures of Turn A and After War, also for creating the foundation for a new era of Gundam! My favorite characters were Flay, Athrun, Cagalli and Mu (I liked them even more than Kira, although she also takes credit for a good character development throughout the series). That melodrama worthy of a Korean drama was one of the main reasons why the gundam fandom hates this series, because it is full of boomers and this series is aimed at a younger audience. And that melodrama was the reason I kept watching it. And in the end it is explained why Kira is more skilled than the rest, so those complaints are unnecessary. One of the weak points was Lacus, she is a simple Mary Sue, as a waifu she is very good but as a character not so much, even so she does not hate her it just seems meh. 8/10 |

That said, this was an ok series. First 25-28 episodes basically had no plot and, aside from some cool moments, they were also pretty boring and derivative. Second half had a lot of potentially interesting concepts and character devolpment, but most of them didn't get flashed out all. Earth and Zaft leaders' motives are basically "we want to destroy the enemy hurrrr we're envious argghhhh" while some good writing would have explained the roots of their culture clash. Rau was just a deranged Char without anything of what made Char great. Main characters were nice and probably the best part of the show. Kira suffers a bitfrom being treated like a god by the show, but at least his inner conflict was told very well. Athrun and Cagalli are based and one of the best Gundam couples. Murrue, Mu and Natarle were also cool and had decent development. Flay was really peculiar for this kind of semi-shonen anime, but I guess the writers weren't competent enough to make use of a character a bit more complex than usual, so they made her useless after 10 episodes and then shoehorned her in random situations until she died cause drama. In the end I'd give this a generous 7-. Better than Victory and Wing, worse than pretty much everything else. |

I'm disappointed that the curtain fell so abruptly, I wanted it to go on. Like c'mon, we all love ourselves some epilogue. Nonetheless, an intense finale that dealt a great amount of emotional damage. I even felt it when Flay died. More so for Kira tbh*shrug* Athrun lost his dad, which was a good riddance. He was still less of a menace to humanity than Creuset the maniac. He went full crazy these last couple of episodes. His mask fell off, literally. Had one hell of a good time with this series. Therefore I'm willing to oeverlook some plot conveniences and stuff that could've been handled better. Same as with ZZ, I'm immune to what gave SEED a bad rep 8/10 Good openings and endings I never skipped. |

Well, the ending was very weak for me, but this fact didn't change my perspective of the show, and i liked it a lot. I was expecting something awful, because people love to hate on SEED, but i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed this anime, the pacing was very good, the action and the mecha designs were top tier and i also loved the cast of characters even if everyone seem to hate every character of the show. Definitely Gundam seed Will join my top 10 Gundam shows. Overall 8.5-9/10 |

I've actually felt sad for Flay, despite hating her the first half of the series. The ending felt a little abrupt and predictable, but it's ok. I wonder wtf was wrong with Rau Le Creuset? I failed to understand his motivation, looks like he's just crazy. As I expected the series turned to be better than western community talks about it. I guess some people just hate teen melodrama like in Franxx. There are some "silly" points, but not more than in the original tetralogy. Actually I liked it more than the first Gundam (but Zeta is still the best for me). Now I can only hope Destiny would not turn to be a trainwreck. |

There's a lot of things that I don't like but the main thing is the villains are just so uninteresting. Probably this is the only Gundam that I've with a horrible villain. Yzak still not redeeming himself for killing a innocent civilian. Also how the heck Lacus just suddenly became a captain of a ship, she was a pop idol pacifist prior to that. White tiger became her subordinate, how that happened? It's also confusing how Kira went to space after he fought Athrun. Why the priest knew Lacus know Kira. Seriously a lot of stupidity in this series that i can still mention but I'm just lazy to write all of it. |

Can't believe I'm doing this to myself, but I'm trying to understand why people like this franchise so much. This was just another Gundam story with bad writing and direction, par for the course. |

Now, I did not expect Flay to die. Seeing this discussion it is nice to see others who actually don't hate Flay, it felt like everyone before was just dunking on her the whole time. Understandable, but still. While she didn't really get redeemed, her anger against Kira has transformed into a sadness and regret that she could not shake. She died more useless than before. Ultimately though, she would either die a tragedy, or live long enough to become boring. That is what happened to some of the others. This angst with Flay is what caught my attention in the first place, and why I did not drop this show, so I have some sentiment towards it. Now, this ending was incredible. Absolute cinema. It baffles me how so many before me have found it bad when it is a wonderful cap off to this show. Now don't ask me to explain why, but still. I was losing interest, but the last two episodes had me captivated. Overall, I am not entirely sure why I love this show. Something captured me and I don't know what. Maybe its the 2000s feel to it. Especially since I mostly watched it dubbed (pretty decent dub until near the end). Maybe its the drama and angst of it. Maybe I just found it fun. Although my opinion may change as time passes, I still loved this show, and by way more than I initially thought. Still I agree with unclesnapple before. While I have not watched much Gundam, I watched the 079 movies before this and the cheap copying SEED did frustrated me immensely. 8 episodes in and I was prepared to drop it. But I grew to enjoy what this show became, despite its many flaws. Right now, I'd give this show an 8-9 out of 10. |

This should be right up my alley. Giant robots, Y2K aesthetics, a retelling of the classic gundam story, jazzed up and better animated for the current millenium. While I'll admit that I couldn't stop watching- when the action gets firing on all cylinders, it's a spectacle- the overarching plot and the characters are slop-tier. personal motivations are non-sensical or underdeveloped. For all the moments the animation is beautiful and striking, there's two more where the animation falls flat or is re-used over and over- and this is in the HD remaster! I can't imagine how bad it was originally. In spite of it all, I probably would have walked away from this particular part of the gundam milieu with a smile on my face but the last 8 episodes completely drop the ball. Unsure if I'm going to continue with the rest of SEED but if I do it will be with much more caution and lowered expectations. |
