Man, this cast was freaking cute when they were kids. Chihaya especially had a pretty lively personality too. It’s interesting.

Why not a poem card game lol

I also find it bafflint that the earlier comments most of them didn't even know why they crying . Shows you how much they pay attention . Its becouse arata is leaving and tachi is going to a different School

Really touching episode.

This anime is special. I thought I might not like that much, 'cause I haven't seen much Josei animes or those who have its elements, but this one is great.

I appreciate how they're establishing the modern timeline by showing us their past first.
I'm Bruneian and I like anime. And Manchester United. And fat cats.

Dang, really wasn’t expecting some feels only 3 episodes in. Super pumped to finally be watching this highly acclaimed anime; and so far I think all the praise is more than justified.

I really just like everything so far but what really gets me the most is that they’re starting with this backstory as set up, rather than the all too common backstory that happens like mid battle or whatever. It’s like you’re so hyped to see what happens next when- CUT! Backstory time so that you care for the characters. Was expecting them to put such a backstory like in the middle of an upcoming tournament or something. While they still might do like a tiny snippet of a flashback or something which would be no problem, I’m just super glad we started off with this so that they don’t just randomly insert it later, which would probably bog down a well set pace. It’s a bittersweet story utilized to the max by putting it here in the very beginning of this series as a great introduction to our characters, rounding them out instantly from the beginning rather than saving it for later. I just really appreciate that.

Of course the winter 2021 season is super stacked right now, and I’m watching a good chunk of them, but for now I think I’ve found a great anime to watch in between those airing ones.

Good thing they didn't have smartphones back then, or else there would be no motivation or plot from "being able to see each other as long as we have Karata" thing. They would have instead just made video calls or played their matches over Zoom or fucking Twitch.

This episode was pretty feels-y, despite watching it for like the 3rd time. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the show this time.

Sad to see the trio of karuta buddies separating after graduating elementary. At least Taichi and Chihaya were able to meet in highschool and hopefully soon also reunite with Arata.

Today's match has been my personal favourite of the bunch. The group is so fun when they finally get competitive. I'm excited to see how the actual serious tournaments go now.

Nee-chan is a narcisshit. On the bright side those characters are always fun to watch develop. I had a giggle at how brazen she was about wanting to hoard Chi's attention~

this one was pretty fast but I still liked it. Outside of school, Arata can earn a new level of respect from people through karata

oh man. This show makes me really, really, really happy. The end of this episode already got the waterworks pouring. I've seen this show floating around a lot over the years and didn't pay much attention to it. what a foolish move.

I have no idea how this will unfold into a long-running drama worth 75 episodes and presumably unfinished (because the manga just wrapped up last year), but so far, this show makes me really, really, really happy. I adore it.

I get where the people who say this anime is a hidden gem are coming from now. With a backstory like that how can I not want to root for Chihaya?

Taichi's finally starting to grow on me but I highly doubt I'll change my mind on wanting Arata to win.

Now that I think about it, the tape they used when they first confronted each other, Arata probably had it memorized after how much he listened to it... he knew the order in which the cards would be called, that little cheater, loljk.

The three of them entered as a team to play in the kurata tournament. Unfortunately Taichi got accepted to a prestigious middle high school that is 1.5 hour commute away. Arata has to return to Fukui as his grandfather who was a eternal master in the kurata world is sick. Chihaya feels sad over losing them both.
