Pretty much...but there was some internal struggle there, he was trying to understand what Athrun was saying, but motherfucking Rey kept dismissing what Athrun was saying as wrong and even saying that Athrun was going mad. Obviously Shinn would listen more to Rey than Athrun for many reasons, but damn, he really went and had the intention to kill Meyrin too. This anime is so frustrating to watch =_= I think I've been angry at least once or twice every episode for awhile now. I probably need to stop taking this so seriously otherwise this is not good for my health. |
| There's no question at all that Athrun is the more important protagonist over Kira in Seed Destiny. In the original Seed, yes Kira was #1 and Athrun was #2. This series is all about Athrun. As soon as Athrun was shot down, I went, "Well of course he's not dead. Important people always survive." And yet they don't feel the need to look for the bodies? All you've done is shoot down a lousy Goof, Shinn. Mission not accomplished, Rey. Have some common sense. I will say I'm actually disappointed that Shinn is feeling regret already. Instead of being the world's worst protagonist, they should've just let Shinn go all the way villain. He is incredibly unlikable, so why stop that now? Letting Shinn be a fuming angry bloodthirsty Zaft tool for the rest of the series would've been great. I feel like they dropped the ball. |

| (rewatching) I'll give Athrun credit for making sure Shinn stabbed through the side of the gundam where Meyrin was not. Let's keep in mind Shinn and Rey have been buddies since the academy. (has Shinn been manipulated for that long, maybe) There isn't much reason for him to listen to a supposed hero-of-the-last-war. Gil was quick to use Rey's judgement as an excuse to get rid of Athrun, not caring one bit that Meyrin was there (no use for her). |

Indeed. Athrun fought back to back with the Minerva pilots, saved them countless times, gave them advice, came off as experienced and intelligent and calm. His apparent "defection" definitely should have got her thinking. Kira got more screentime, but Athrun had more importance in the narrative due to high status in ZAFT and him being able to meet all of the key players (Rau, Lacus, Chairman Zala, etc), whereas Kira only really interacted with the Archangel crew (and with Rau for five minutes near the end). Athrun's importance over Kira is just more noticeable in Destiny because we're not following the episodic adventures of the Archangel, while Athrun continues to have a front row seat to all of the important dealings and gets to interact with all of the big players. They all say the same thing: that they viewed their fellow soldiers as brothers, and shittalking them - let alone betraying them or trying to kill them - is unthinkable. Yes Shinn has known Rey longer, but they also had those critical bonding experiences with Athrun of fighting side by side, covering each other's back. Shinn and Rey should be begging to find out what's going on with Athrun. The fact that they aren't says more about how scummy Shinn and Rey are that they went through all of that with Athrun and can't be bothered to care about their comrade. removed-user said: If I was Athrun I would have told everyone that was not the real Lacus before I left. That would have gotten Meer humiliated and killed for no reason. He's not able to publicly broadcast that message to the civilians in the PLANTs. His radio message is only going to reach the ZAFT forces within the vicinity and it would be suppressed and ignored. At least by keeping quiet, there is hope that Meer might decide to escape alive, or use her position to tell the truth to the public when the opportunity arises. |
| I don't know if i'm more annoyed by the existence of shinn and Rey, the fact that now Shinn is irredeemable for me, or the fact that Lunamaria is searching comfort from the hands who supposedly killed her sister. Durandal as always is extremely charismatic, but i think his charisma will be his demise. |
