It's vile that they're ending the season with a cliffhanger to a major battle, but at least there's another season so I can't be too mad.

Why would y'all give a 5 to a Season Finale that doesn't tie up even 1 of its 2 stories? For an action series episode without a single fight, let alone a fight with any story weight? Episodes like this should be 2 before a season finale so they can use the last 2 to finish at least 1 story.

The season was good, but the finale was not.

I thought it would be weird for the tournament to end in one episode, especially with the pace of this anime. So yeah, this was more of a setup episode for the already confirmed third season. Still, as a season finale, it wasn't that great.

As I feared, it looks like Kei will be the one to face Silvia in the finale, which means Sunraku will probably lose to her. I don't love it, since he's the main character, but it makes sense: fighting games are not his specialty. That said, it's obvious he'll still put on a show, just like Pencilgon.

This anime has been amazing. Sunraku and Pencilgon steal every scene, especially with their ridiculous costumes. That said, compared to the first season, this one hasn't had as many exciting moments or intense battles. Still, it's one of the best anime of this generation, and I can't wait for the next season!

such a weak ending leading into a boring arc :b the only plotline i actually care about consists of plot within SLF as that's the core story arc. I'm sure this tournament will be "action packed" but just isn't really exciting to me. It's about as exciting as if they turned the story into "OH NOW THEY PLAY COD" boring. I'm sure we'll at least get some interesting new characters from this arc playing in SLF later on tho seeing as that's the authors main approach to expanding the cast- "meet in other game, other gamer starts SLF" rinse and repeat. Idk this plot direction just seems like more of a miss to me, tho I'm old and not interested in tournament arcs in general lol. Totally fine if other people are into it, not looking to argue as I really don't care 🤷 overall bit of a let down for a season finale and overall story direction but it's whatever.

Binged two seasons and came away feeling conflicted about the series.

Not really looking forward to the continuation of the arc. The anime didn’t give me any reason to like Pencilgon or Oikatzo—most of the time, they just feel like Sunraku clones without much else to offer, and I found them increasingly annoying. On top of that, after watching The King's Avatar, I’ve grown to hate the whole "le epic gaming tournament" trope in anime.
@combi2015 I AGREE! lol I've been thinking that the entire time. I don't like either of their characters, they more just seems like partial antagonists. I wouldn't associate with players like either of them in games and regularly blocked annoying people like that when I still bothered with MMOs. They've done next to nothing to really make the supporting cast like-able. I mean most the other side characters have been OK, but Oi and Pencil remain kinda purely antagonistic. Which you sort of see he doesn't really like them much as he regularly keeps things from them and tries to avoid them all together. Just seems like really weak character development.

I consider ep 24 as the true finale of season two and ep 25 as the hype maker for season 3 which as a manga reader i know it's fire and deserve so much hype.
i give 10 of 10 for hype and promoting season 3 and the overall rating of 8.5 for this episode

Decent episode, they could have put more emotion in when the dude asked why they are all doing this for him etc. Was a nice surprise even seen that scene because of how the anime has been for me

This show is a rollercoaster, it alternate between very good fighting episodes (lot of work, insanely good animation) and abyssimal trash tier episodes with bad story telling (sometimes I feel like I'm watching a kid show from the 90s)... I'm starting to think that they are only good at displaying fights at the cost of everything else. Feels like it's going the same way Shield Hero went, which is not a good sign.

Really don't love that the season is ending on such a major cliffhanger—so much buildup with no payoff—but the pumpkin-head costume reveal legit made me literally laugh out loud. That makes up for it some.

MAN that cliffhanger stings. At least resolve the exhibition match since we still have to deal with the Abyss. RIP. Happy we got a season 3 announcement right away though. Hoping we'll start back up in the Fall!

Overall, had a great time with season 2. Shangri-La Frontier has really been that anime for me that just keeps on giving. This season felt like an never-ending climb to the peak of a rollercoaster drop, so I'm 100% expecting season 3 to blow my mind. Hoping it does!

Well that shows a lot of belief in the audience to end a season like that. I am not a reader of the original content, so the GGC has some importance in telling the story, not just a pointless side story i hope. It is not very interesting, well that's not fair. I supposed it would go for an episode, that would have been interesting. this is strung out to the max.

i just don't like the constant shift of focus, the title is Shangri-La Frontier, but it keeps adding new characters through other shitty games, for whatever reason, it continues to make the core story a bit more disengaging for me personally. well, the core story wasn't that memorable anyways, so i guess i'm complaining for nothing. i'll continue to watch for awesome fight scenes, which was lacking in this season. 6/10

I'm really glad that we're getting a third season, because the build up to the beginning of the tournament is really good and it would suck if that's how the anime ended.

Fucking cliffhangers man this shit should be illegal. Every season should end after an arc. Look at Solo Levelling. But at least S3 has been confirmed. Small consolation.

Season 3 was just announced. I wonder how they will stretch the remaining content of the source material. I guess they will really dive into this side-arc.
But until then, we will have to wait for more official news on when it will really come out. Looking forward to Season 3!

While I didn't like that the different arcs/storylines were left open I do have some solace knowing that S3 is being made so eventually the arcs/storylines will be shown. On that note I have mixed feeling on how this ended with Kei suddenly being made to play another game after preparing for Galaxia Heroes: Chaos and then for whatever reason Pencilgon telling the announcer that he has a battle with a toilet (wth, why couldn't she have told them he was double booked unless that could've disqualified him or maybe because it could raise suspicion if they find out they're stalling/dragging out matches).

Anyways, overall this was a good watch and I liked it about the same as S1 but I hear that S3 is supposed to be better.

Why would Sunraku claim that Kei was in the bathroom? That just makes him sound unprofessional. The truth would have been better, "he got double-booked in another tournament but he'll be along later."

In fact, given that this is an exhibition match and ranking is probably not on the line, they could have just called Silvi last night and asked her to pick fourth spot if she wanted a chance at fighting Kei.
@Mirality I agree. That would have been much better. I suppose toilet = funny though, amirite? HAHA. /s

@Hot-Pantaloons I feel like their characters and dynamic could work if they were actually charismatic or entertaining. But that’s just not the case with Pencilgon or Oikatzo, which sucks since they seem to be pretty integral characters, given how often they show up —I mean, just look at the ongoing arc.

Like you said, they come off as antagonistic even though they’re supposedly "friends." I get that their whole thing is fucking with each other and throwing each other under the bus, but there’s nothing redeeming about them—nothing to actually latch onto. Pencilgon simping for an NPC and calling her "Set-chan" isn’t enough for me. Why are they even friends? And why am I, as a viewer, supposed to care about seeing more of them? Can’t help but keep asking these questions.

It was a great season, though since SLF is game based the same problem remains: there are no actual (life or death) stakes for anyone. Everyone is safe by design..

Oh, so the winner of each match keeps fighting until they are defeated. Okay, so I'm guessing they are planning to have Sunraku facing Silvia but eventually losing to her so that Kei can replace him and finally have his long-awaited confrontation with her. Yep, sounds about right. It's a Kei-centered arc but we will still be able to see Sunraku, the MC, having his chance against a world-renowned Gamer and I think that's a good deal for everyone watching the show.

Overall, decent setup episode to conclude another highly enjoyable season of Shangri-La Frontier. Practically as good as the previous season, I would say. Both Rust and Akitsuakane were nice additions to the main cast, rematch against Lycaon with Rei-shi's assistance was really exciting and this Inverted City/Ctarnidd Arc has proven to be quite promising so I particularly look forward to its continuation in Season 3.

8/10 - Now let's hope Season 3 doesn't take too long to arrive.

Cliffhanger kinda sucks but welp. We'll just have to wait. Amazing season as always, just as good as the first season so I have no complaints. Just hope it doesn't take so long because that is truly one hell of a way to end off a season, with a big cliffhanger like that. 8/10

Gotta say, as a big King's Avatar fan, I was looking forward to the Galaxia heroes' stuff and the introduction of potential new relationships in the world of Shangri La. I really like it when shows dive into other aspects of the games they're playing and the relationships they form, so I'm kind of disappointed that the show leaves off of at a cliff hanger even if it isn't about Shangri La (the game).

I actually can't wait to see the tournament arc animated, this has been one of my ongoing favorites in anime for a while and I'm glad they're continuing their streak with a season 3 in the works. This season has been like an 8/10, but that's primarily because I wish I could've seen more out of Galaxia Heroes. Can't wait for next season!

Started the series at the beginning of the week and just finished, watched both seasons and I'm giving them both a 9/10. It's a fun, light-hearted comedy that showcases the friendship between the 3 but most of season 2 felt like both Katzo and Pencil weren't really present until the last 5 or so episodes of season 2.

I'm very much looking forward to a third season.

I haven't watched anime in a long time but got round to watching 3 of the newer ones as of late. I remember when you watch an anime and after it's done you would either move on to something else or read the manga (if it was based on one) from where the anime left off because back then the DVD sales (later on the Blu-Ray sales) and general popularity would be an indicator that the series might get an anime sequel down the road but it was all based on the performance in Japan as the rest of the world just wasn't considered back then. However, all of that has changed for the better, the anime is no longer a set up to increase the manga sales but a medium that craves the continuation with sequels.

The fact that the rich model isn't paying for her own stuff is wild.
Ain't now way she's disguising herself with sunglasses at the moment LMAO
You're telling me that this is the last episode of the season :(
Like that's such a cliffhanger. Ouch. Not sure about Sunraku's costume though honestly liked the other mask better should have just competed in that. Also there's no way that nobody would recognize a model even in that cosplay. Also... participating completely anonymously would realistically be against certain rules probably.

I need more! The season may have ended, but it’s just the end of the beginning. I can’t wait for the GGC and Ctarnidd of the Abyss arc to truly begin.

I’m also worried—will OiKatzo be able to make it in time? And I really wanted Sunraku to enter as Sunraku, with the bird mask.

The season was amazing, and I’m already hyped for the next one with how they just left us hanging!

I thought this show was called "Shangri-La Frontier" not "Weird masked guy plays a bunch of different games that are mostly crap, but sometimes plays one that's really good that has bunnies!"

Feels like they spent more time in other games than the one the show gets its title from, and is supposed to be about. People usually call this kind of crap FILLER.

If they were going to do filler, then things like meeting Rei outside the game and not knowing that she's Psyger-0 and other things that have to do with Shangri-La Frontier would have infinitely more interesting than sudden tangents to some crap mech game and then some stupid fighting game tournament that have nothing to do with Shangri-La Frontier.

Before someone says "It was like that in the manga," I do not care. I didn't read it, and if it truly is the case, then the manga is full of filler too.

It's like if in Demon Slayer, Tanjirou dropped everything to pick flowers to become a florist for no reason for a few episodes, then goes back to demon slaying, they set up this big fight with a strong demon, Tanjirou decides to enter some completely unrelated art contest, they finish the fight with the demon in the first 5 minutes of the last episode of the season, then the rest of the episode is about the stupid art contest, and the season ends on a cliffhanger.

Would be be going "ooooo I can't wait until next season to see how the art contest goes"? I doubt it. No one cares about the stupid art contest. I don't know why people care about this game tournament.
