Oh Mari...this episode just shows her character vulnerability.

Seems they added a lot of drama into the season finale although I wish they made the episode more cherrier. Imo, it was somewhat of a strange finale but the end still brings back the cheering joy.

Even at the final moments, the cheerleading club is still in shatters after Mari's sudden exit, and with this happening for a week, captain Ichigo doesn't want the club to suffer the post consequences of the matter. And despite Hana, Kanata and Hii going out to find her, it's Ichigo who comes in clutch not as the captain, but as her friend to seek her all the way in Tsumagoi, Gunma, to give her a talking to to convince her that she's not done. Between the Senpais, Ichigo may have her part to blame, but it's all on Mari having to make her fateful decision.

Kanata's answer to Mari: join PoMPoMs to literally "cheer" her up with the spirit of cheer and help relieve the pressure of being at the top by writing a song for her. Mari wanting to redo the stunt that they failed during the tournament the last time, and despite all prejudices, all is forgiven towards her as they perform the 2-1-2 pyramid to perfection. Obunai dropping a bombshell that she wanted to do idol work, the influence got to her that cheer doesn't need a smile, and passion is all the more important.

PoMPoM's last video of them together being an idol-esque song with cheerleader segments, I guess they still keep it to the spirit of the sport at the end of the day, but man, what a rushed ending.

This show does not cut it being CGDCT and having melodrama so disjointed to break the flow. P.A. Works, you clearly failed on this one.

Emotional, dramatic, but also a happy finale.

Suzuha wanting to become an idol was a big surprise. Well, good luck, girl! I know you can do it! :)

Overall, this was a very good mix of "sports" and drama. I liked the whole cast.

PA works Yuri baited us again they’ll pay for their sins. Lesbians aren’t just fashion trends. GIVE US A YURI ENDING!! But this was still a sweet ending.

Kanata showed a lot of leadership and maturity by going to get Mari to rejoin PomPoms, but we gotta work on her analogies cause the “cheer is like cabbage” line killed me πŸ˜‚

It’s pretty cool we got two finales today where girls put their insecurities and everything that makes them feel vulnerable out into the open via a song… vden and then this. Everyone in Pompoms has come so far and they have well and truly become a team. The 2-1-2 looked great, but I would’ve liked it to be longer .

Suzuha becoming an idol?? That was unexpected considering how shy she is but that’s lowkey also great opportunity for her to grow as a person. Needed Shion and her to start dating tho 🀦🏽‍♂️

Megumi walking finally and able to perform with the girls in the post credits scene is awesome too! There’s some things I would’ve liked to have seen done differently like more focus on the actual cheer and actual Yuri, but on the whole I really enjoyed this and I thought Pomspoms dynamic was so wholesome. I will miss these girls

The distance between Takasaki and Tsumagoi is around 70km + and huge mountain range between them. Hana and Hiiragi were super insane to ride a bicycle there.
The best thing from this final episode was that Megumi was finally able to walk properly again even though she still needed to use crutches. But that was still a good sign for her.

And, yes, there are real cabbage plantations in Tsumagoi.

a correct ending although I have to admit that I didn't expect Obunai to go to Tokyo to be an idol. Mari coming back and all that was very predictable, but too much drama concentrated on The last two chapters. Until another

Rare P. A. Works L here. And for it to be an anime original set in the country-side, usually their bread & butter. Thankfully, Mayonaka Punch aired this season to offset this (I haven’t watched the Sakuna anime).

"Huh?" <- that is my thought starting from the episode where Kanata started soloing the cheering requests right until this final episode. I think until that episode, the story still somewhat makes sense and was somewhat coherent but after that, everything just felt like someone had an idea for a story and the story was executed in that draft form without any editing.

I had no idea Kanata could "fly" again before the Mari comment. I thought she could still only do the basic stunts since she never returned to the club. But if her yips was cured before that, why didn't she go back to her club (she could have still continued with PomPoms activity on the side of course, just like what Shion was doing).

Liked the artstyle that is different from the standard but didn't really like all the other parts of this...

It's fine but I thought it was pretty boring. A few episodes in and I kinda stopped caring but I just kept watching.

I don't think the drama was that good either, they could've removed it and I might've liked it better.

In general I probably liked this show but damn it was not sure what it wants to be. Normally the best bet with this premise would have been to make a sports show. But it seems to me that studio wanted yet another "working girls series" (and "work" in their case may mean any serious activity MCs dedicate themselves too, not specifically work) but producers wanted CGDCT idol show. So we got what we got.

I thought the ranking of P.A. Works shows of the Summer 2024 Season would be:
1. Mayonaka Punch
2. Na Nare Hana Nare
3. Tensui no Sakuna-hime

I never would have expected the ranking to end up being:
1. Tensui no Sakuna-hime
2. Mayonaka Punch
3. Na Nare Hana Nare

For me Na Nare Hana Nare was the biggest disappointment of the Season, in terms of overall enjoyment.
It's true that sports anime don't have the best reputation, but I liked how unique it sounded and looked in the PV.
The first episodes where decent, but it never got better as I was hoping.
I didn't care at all for the final arc and the only character I will remember will be Anna (for obvious reasons (she also reminds me of Beatrix)).
All in all, this is the definition of MID for Drama series.

Even to the very end, the barrage of melodrama aspect was handled with bad execution imo but at its highs, the show was doing some good stuff. The final arc in particular was very forgetful which kind of leaves a bad impression...

Concept-wise and the first episode gave very positive vibes but sadly the consequent characterisation and plot couldn't live up to it. Credits to P.A. Works for the wonderful audiovisual experience though, it's crazy they juggled three shows this season and were still able to churn out this quality!

Going to have to settle with a 5/10 here.

On another note, it's nice to see we're seeing a few anime lately taking place in Gunma prefecture which is just north of Aichi prefecture or Nagoya city where I spent a decent amount of my time this summer. Here's to hoping some of that will trickle down to Aichi next, lol.

And with this, Na Nare Hana Nare has come to an end.

First, let's talk about this episode. I feel like this episode can be divided in 2 distinct halves. The 1st half, in my opinion, was quite good, with the exploration of Mari's feelings that we can see weren't fully resolved, which is a first in this anime honestly. The cabbage dinner was also really funny though, and I didn't know the plant actually produced a flower too. The way they used cheer to bring confidence to Mari was also entertaining to watch.
Then we have the mess that the 2nd half was. Basically, this 2nd half was a complete rush to the finish, trying to end everything as quick as possible, because we were reaching the end. The whole segment where Kanata and Mari, suddenly, were able to fly again was just underwhelming due to how rushed it was. Also, out of nowhere, Suzuha wants to be an idol, and look, the group disbands. The end.

Honestly, this episode didn't live up to the hype the last few episodes were able to make, with how little the anime had to offer after those more boring 5 first episodes. Overall, this episode felt rushed, and it was certainly the weaker one since, I would say, episode 7.

With the episode review done, now I'll say what I think about the anime in general.
As I have been saying throughout these discussion threads, the first 5 episodes were boring honestly. There wasn't anything going on, the plot was plain, the cheerleading parts were lacking, and the characters were bland. Nothing stood out, and it was almost a task watching the episode.
After episode 6, the anime shifted its focus, and the episodes started getting more interesting with them actually doing a bit more with their cheerleading, alongside with actual character development. After that, the episodes started to build up some drama and character development, that actually made the anime more enjoyable to watch.
But even so, the plot of this anime had a lot of unexplored potential. Most of the characters were barely explored in the anime, with the example of Shion, with her biggest exploration happening back in episode 2, and ever since then, the only thing that happened was the supposed romantic vibes with Suzuha in episode 6, that, as expected, didn't result in anything (another big loss in my opinion). And even with characters like Kanata, I feel like she wasn't that well explored really, we only got to know last episode that she actually wasn't able to fly again after what happened in episode 3, that, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't told, or even hinted, in the anime at all. The anime also had a lot of scenes that at the end, you would just be like "so, with this we got nothing", which can be fine if they are entertaining and the anime has time to develop the story, but this clearly wasn't the case, first because they could get a bit boring, and also because the anime ended with so many aspects unexplored.
Another big problem with this anime, is that, for a cheerleading anime, we saw little to no real cheerleading, it was mostly them cheering them up, then episodes like episode 7, where we got to see more of a professional side to it. We barely saw any choregraphys from them, we had one in episode 3, another in episode 5, partially in episode 7, and then one final one in this episode. And I must say that the animation in these dances with the cgi was off-putting to say the least. It's funny how the better episodes barely had any cheerleading in fact. This could have been branded as a school drama anime more than anything honestly.
And I can't stress enough the lack oh characterization of the main group, and how in 12 episodes they weren't able to do anything with it. We literally get to know that Suzuha wants to be an idol in the last few minutes of the anime. It's just so disappointing for an anime that needed good characters to work better.
Also, I wasn't a big fan of the ending either, after episode 9/10, I already knew the anime would end up with the disbandment of PomPoms, with the girls each pursuing their own dreams and surprassing their inner problems, and it would have a message that the right group of people, in the right time, can help you become a stronger self, and I honestly I would love that conclusion, but the ending was so rushed that this was half done. I thought that they would come to a consensus about the disbandment, because they all had things to do, but no, literally only Suzuha had to leave, and they said "oh, alright, let's disband the group then" and that was it, no sad feelings for finishing an important chapter for all of them. And then most of them just straight out had a sudden change, like Suzuha, than can freely be an idol. And then we got a final montage with the girls doing what the majority of the time were already doing before. Like, Anna was literally working at a cafe, like, what was her big change? She now has to work? This ending felt weak, cheap and unremarkable. The thing I will always remember this anime for, is the beautiful scene with Megumi standing up, to cheer for Kanata, and actually making a jump, and that is for sure the highlight of the anime.
I feel like the anime should have taken another direction during the early episodes, episode 6 should have happened right in episode 3, and this Mari drama should have been sooner too. Really, the anime had some potential, it was just completely unexplored. It's unfortunate that P.A. Works, a studio that I love, failed us with this one, and didn't deliever a remarkable anime like they used to do, but they have done worst in the past, so I won't complain that much (looking at you Fairy Gone).

With all that rant made, I still had a good time with the anime, at least with these last episodes, and the artwork and atmosphere of the anime was really cute and confortable, which made all of the watching experience enjoyable!
So, even with so many flaws, I really can't score this anime any less than a 6/10, because episodes 8 and 9 showed how the show could actually be quite good, and how attached you actually become with PomPoms, even with all of the problems with their development.
Also, quite sad that we didn't get to hear the opening in this last episode, since I was getting used to it, and now from time to time it gets stuck in my head!
Still going to be excited for P.A. Works next project anyways!

Don't have much to say for this show, I was very off and on with it, None of the characters particularly stuck with me, Although anna and kanata were both good. This show has a really weird art style but not in a bad way its very unique and I like it a lot.

Gave me a newfound appreciation for the work cheerleaders put in, I could never do that.

While everyone is discussing the anime, I just want to call attention to this low-res Suzuha face that I found amusing

In terms of the episode itself, it was alright. Though I found it hard to muster much care for Mari and the rest of the school groups woes, I mean we barely know these characters. I feel like it was a mistake to bring them into the plot as they did. I think there should have been a lot more focus on PomPoms as a unit and the culmination of the season should have been that hospital scene with Megumi. Then save all of this stuff with Mari and the Eagles for a second season.

Also Suzuha you can't become an idol! Idol's aren't allowed to have love lives! You'll be forced to break up with Shion!

It was a cute anime. I think it leaned a little too much into the drama, especially with Kanata’s old cheer team. I expected some drama but figured it would mostly be focused on Megu. I kinda remember Suzuha saying she was an idol fan in the beginning but didn’t expect her to want to be one. That was an interesting twist. I really liked Anna and Nodoka. The way she would be twisted like a pretzel whenever Anna woke her up was funny. Reminds me of how my cats sleep. πŸ˜‚

It’s not the best anime of the year or anything groundbreaking, but it’s a sweet one, with heartfelt life lessons and a clear message that stays consistent throughout the episodes: “No one can do everything alone, you can always rely on others.” This ties in beautifully with the concept that they’re cheerleaders, striving to lift others' spirits. That’s their role, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have their own insecurities or fears. Even if those fears seem insignificant to some, everyone has a different level of tolerance.

It had its entertaining moments, though some parts felt a bit slow at times.

I'm glad that the Mari drama was settled in a rather good manner. I did like how Kanata and a few others from Hawks went out of their way to find Mari hometown and confront her about the reason for her not being at school for a while. PomPoms disbanding was sad, but they went out in good form when dancing with Hawks and showcasing what they can do when they are at their best.

Overall, while I did like the vibe that this series had to offer, it did have its flaws that did hold back its potential to shine more. The visuals were nice and I liked the different ambient colouring in different places to reflect that, but it's not the best I've seen from P.A Works in terms of production value. It's still good, but it gets vastly outshined by their other series, Mayonaka Punch, by some margin.

6/10 will be my final score.

Well that ending was chalk full of everything happening. Honestly, one season was not enough for all the characters to have their plots resolved in a way that didn't feel rushed. Still

I appreciate the attempt to settle everyone's plot points and to have so many characters have arcs, but it wasn't admittedly accomplished the best way, not that I would know how to make it work myself.

I personally think its unfair and unaccurate to call Narenare a train wreck but it's a shame to see such nice animation and cute girl wholesomeness wasted on an incoherent plot, if you can call it plot and pretty poor characterisation. Maybe it would've helped to have more distinctive hair colours but I struggled mightily trying to remember who tf was who.
And I wanna see a lot more cheerleading in a "cheerleading" anime.
And yet you can see a lot of love went into this show and there were some beautiful moments along the way. But sadly that doesn't make it actually "good".
Nice try PA Works but somehow this charming show didn't quite cut it.

Sadly for me, both this and Mayonaka Punch feel like incomplete shows the two of them, as if they should've had at least another four episodes to say the least, even 24. That's how I feel about them, at least they are good, although they didn't reach "very good" for me. Come on P.A Works, you guys were astounding back in 2022 with the absolute bangers, nearly masterpieces that were Paripi Kongming and Akiba Maid War. Oh well, at least they are contributing to the business making new original shows, that has always been rare in the industry.

@Gavinmercer I agree that its unfair. I think that most people couldnt accept that it was not a sports series, but a slice of life drama. Said that, i think that what hurt the series the most is being too short, so most of the cast felt underdeveloped and in the end it hadnt a main plot, but a series of stories that revolved around the theme of cheering and supporting others.

PA Works' worst show since Glasslip. Too many chefs in the kitchen. Too many characters, and it was so disjointed that almost nothing in the show worked. Only Anna got a satisfying mini-arc. Anima Yell was simpler but superior. 2/10

Looks decent, went nowhere. They should've just focused on PomPoms members. Too many characters for 12 episodes. They really wasted time on the other group instead of Suzuha's dream. She's part of the main group!

After watching this weekly, I think this anime was more decent if can be extended in 2 cours (24 Episodes). It was quite rush to solve every conflicts in well manner just 12 Episodes, especially last episode I felt like, "Is that all of solutions for all of problems?"

Not to be complaining about other aspects (song, character, CGI, etc.) because it was already good.
