Can people watch this without watching the original series?

I am planning to choose this for a future movie night with friends, but not all of them have watched the original show yet. Would the story still make sense/is it still ok to show the movie?

Yeah it doesn't make much sense without watching the main series first.

But in my opinion it will be better for you and your friends to watch the other movie of violet evergarden.

This one in my opinion it's not good at all.

Very bad story and destroy the character of Violet.

The other one is a masterpiece, with a magnificent finale for all the series.

Might as well toss my hat into the ring here if anyone is wondering if you should watch the first Violet Evergarden movie without watching this series 1st absolutely not you need to watch the series 1st, then this movie and then watch the final movie or else nothing is going to make any sense. To you whatsoever

You can but there will be a lot of world building aspects that will be lost on you. The movie is anime original content and doesn’t exactly pertain to the overall story and mostly serves to flesh out the character Violet more. She acts more like a side character in this as you follow someone else’s story.

That being said, you’d probably appreciate it more if you’ve watched the series.

Of the two movies, I think this one is a lot more standalone. That being said, everything about the conceit and characters will not make as much sense if you’ve not seen the series—which you should, as it’s incredible!

From memory as long as you've watched the first two maybe three episodes you should be fine? The show is pretty episodic so once you've had the concept and basic character stuff explained you should be alright.

If you should watch it though?
I'd honestly give it a skip and just watch 5 episodes of the show if you've not already seen it because the show is just better. It's a nice edition I guess but it's just extra really, it doesn't add anything or really explain anything extra.

Na, just watch the original series, it is way better stroy if you compare it with any OVA or any movie from this series.
