| Not gonna lie, I'm actually just a little annoyed by this. I understand that this is a different era and daughters weren't really seen as all that important for a long time, but you'd think even if she doesn't say something then someone would say something. In this anime it's not like others don't sympathize with her, but like seriously no one's going to say anything? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the sitution is impossible. I have a few cousins in similar situations: my uncle had kids in previous marriages and now that he's married a new woman he pretty much only pays attention to the kid his new wife already had as well as the kid they had together-- and his new wife is "batshit" as they say and has even pulled a knife out on one of my uncle's daughters who was a minor and then kicked her out of their house. However, all of the family knows and all their friends know and they all admonish them for that. People help out the "forgotten" kids as much as they can. Yet there's this whole making Miyo a servant thing which...?? No one has said anything or much about?? Why? Ah, I know why. It's so Miyo's backstory can seem as pathetic as possible-- so for the sake of drama I guess. That being said, I'm whatever on the "why" of this anime, but hopefully it call sell me on the rest. |
| For such a dreary & depressing start, the artwork is so delightfully enchanting. This feels like Cinderella in historical Japan. I noticed about midway that Miyo's seiyuu plays Kisa from Fruits Basket. Her voice is always so pleasant - such a great fit for making Miyo all the more endearing. The montage of Miyo's memories really got me there as she was leaving. I've been seeing this at the top of my recommendations on Netflix since it began airing & had to finally give it a shot. So far, it's right up my alley. |

| Has a great story line that gives you all the emotions there is & I love rewatching them over & over. There should be more shows that have a similar love story where they gradually fall in love & not rushed there is ups & downs like in normal relationships. One of the best shows there is & can't wait for more episodes. LOVE My Happy Marriage. |

| Well since this show just ended today and I’ve been putting it off, time to binge it all today; or try to at the very least lol. Man, her family suucks. Haven’t seen any physical abuse yet but the verbal abuse is just awful. Hopefully Kiyoka treats her better than her family did. |

| It's off to a good start. I watched the movie first, and as expected the first few episodes would be sad and unpleasant to watch as far as Miyo goes. But I expect it to blossom into something beautiful just like in the movie. Interestingly, I finished watching Marimite a few days ago, and I can't believe that Yumi-chan's seiyū voices that evil step mother. |
| Poor Miyo. 😭 She's so kind and friendly, yet treated so badly by her father, a typical beta abd hen-pecked husband, step-mother and step-sister. Hopefully, her life will change for better in her new home. Veru solid episode. Beautiful colours, good direction and music. I feel this show will be fun to watch. |
| I never really get this setting. Even if the father didn't love her or her mother due to the arranged marriage, why did he remarry such a vile woman? Like in what world do you want to be married to such an objectively terrible person, and have a second kid who is openly such a terrible kid? Like even in this ancient setting where your daughter is there as a pawn for you to marry off, wouldn't having an obedient girl like Miyo benefit him way more than someone like Kaya? |
| I'm rewatching it right now, not only to prepare for season 2 but it's also a favourite of mine. I originally finished season 1 in one day, but I'll take my time and savour it. I wasn't aware of Evan Call at that time. Since then, I listened to some of his musick regarding My Happy Marriage and I do recognise it from the montage of Miyo's childhood. Anyway, this anime's motif, both in season 1 and it seems to be with season 2 as well based on the trailer, is the cherry blossom tree. There seem to be several meaning associated with it such as beauty, renewal, rebirth, but one particular meaning that immediately applies to Miyo is endurance. She had an abusive family and she had to endure them. The other meanings will start to apply to Miyo in the second half of this season. It's also interesting that my girl Ueda Reina is voicing 3 interesting characters this Fall 2024 season, and the one that comes close to her performance as Miyo is Yuki from You are Ms Servant. |
